Jo is your average, everyday seventeen year old girl.
Wait, no she's not. Not by a longshot.
She is a girl with a secret. Possessed of powers no one would believe even if they knew that she had them. The ability to create illusions at a thought is a dangerous weapon in the most responsible of hands, and Jo's aren't exactly squeaky clean.
Ever the trouble magnet, Jo is accustomed to finding more than her fair share of problems - most of which she brings on herself. The rebellious daughter of a senator and a diplomat, she has a rap sheet and has been kicked out of nearly every prestigious private school on the Eastern Seaboard.
This time, she's vowed to make an actual effort. Not to fit in - that'd be impossible - but to just not get kicked out.
Of course, this would be the school that turns out to be the favorite hunting grounds of a homicidal ghost.
E.M. Ervin is a voracious consumer of fantasy and science-fiction literature, gamer, prankster, and all-around geek-gal. When not writing, she enjoys hiking, dancing, time-travel, martial arts, thumbwrestling the occasional supervillain, and embarrassing her son. She currently resides in Missouri with her 3 children: one son, one dog, and the feline who rules them all.
A friend suggested I check this book out and I was not disappointed. It was hard to put down as I wanted to see what happened next. The story sucks you in. I will definitely be keeping this series as a part of my regular reading list.
I was surprised that I enjoyed this book. I really didn't know what to expect. It was sort of a random selection. As soon as I was sure it was a ghost story, I was certain I would hate it. I was wrong! The story was fun. The characters were fairly well developed. The lack of language to wear me out was an absolute plus. I found the relationship between the brother and the doctor to be somewhat gratuitous. But it wasn't in your face and didn't distract from the story. So, then why did I give it a 4. The number of editing mistakes was crazy. And THEY WERE a distraction. The story won though. I'm reading #2 right now. I am happy to add EM to my list of authors whose books I look forward to reading.

As a first book in this series, I was happy to find I was drawn in quickly to the story. I liked many of the supporting characters including the older brother and the Doctor who first lends credence to the possibility of a supernatural force. And who wouldn't fall for the mysterious man in Jo's dreams? The story moved quickly and kept me interested and wanting to ignore everything else while I adventured with Jo. The ending was satisfying and left me wanting more in the good way. I will definitely be waiting for the next installment of this series!
