Set in the world of The Infinite Arcana and The Beacon Hill Sorcerer, a new queer urban fantasy series begins...

GRAVE SIGHT

Ezra Redmayne left behind a life of wealth and luxury for adventure and danger.

Refusing to bow to familial expectation, Ezra has been on his own for years, traveling the world, honing his skills as a curse-breaker. A new contract brings him to the Canadian wilderness to tackle a dangerous cursed artifact with a mysterious history, and the potential to destroy entire regions of the countryside.
In pursuit of answers, Ezra meets charismatic professor Raum Norsson, a man with a lineage even more magical than Ezra’s. Raum is from an ancient bloodline of Elder fae peoples, and he’s spent most of his short human life feeling like he wasn’t living up to their legacy. When Ezra bursts into his library, exhausted and eager for information, Raum is determined to help the infamous and attractive sorcerer.
Together, both men dig into the history of the cursed artifact and learn more than they ever expected about its history, and themselves. Ezra and Raum are pitted against immortal beings, ancient magics, and a growing connection that neither of them can deny.

GRAVE SIGHT is the first book in the CURSED ARCANA trilogy, and is part of the wider Infinite Arcana Universe. LGBTQ+ Urban Fantasy Romance.

DNF ~75%

Damn, I really, really tried with this one, but sadly it's a no for me. This needed a much stronger Dev editor -- glacial pacing (the MCs don't even meet until ~25% of the book) and a LOT of repetition. Really exposition/inner monologue heavy, which was extra difficult because so much of it kept repeating until I was like WE GET IT. I appreciated the neurodivergence rep, and it was clear (even without the author's note at the beginning) that this was very personal and likely cathartic for the author, but unfortunately the result here felt super awkward, clunky, and exhausting, as it is mentioned like every other sentence in over-explained detail that makes the narrative drag. As a smaller aside, a character in their late twenties/early thirties who does not use technology or social media at all (including frequently not even having their phone with them) referring to themselves as "neurospicy" which is very specifically algospeak for the chronically online/young almost broke me, and I'm generally not that bothered by anachronisms...

The connection between the two MCs also felt too much like instalove to me, and Raum was so perfect and kind and understanding I was yawning with boredom. Alas, this series is probably not for me.

I liked Grave Sight, but I did not love it. There were numerous editing issues, including wrong words and repetitiveness that I do not recall seeing in previous books by this author. There was repetition within the same paragraphs, not just general 'you told us that before' kind of thing. Also, the MC's don't even meet until a quarter in.

The story itself was alright. I would have preferred more romance and less repetition, though, so 3 stars it is.

I love the Beacon Hill Sorcerer series, so I was really excited to start this new series in the same universe, and I wasn't disappointed.
I really liked the main characters, Ezra and Raum. both complex and interesting. Watching them meeting and falling for each other while solving the magical mystery was my favorite part of the book, and I'm looking forward to their next adventure.
The wider cast had my favorite found family vibe, and I liked them a lot as well.
The pacing was a bit off for me though. There’s a lot of world-building, which I usually enjoy, and it’ll probably work great for new readers. But since I already know this world from the Beacon Hill Sorcerer series, some parts felt a bit slow and dragged at times.
I absolutely loved the High Sidhe angle, and can’t wait for Cain and Raum to meet.
Overall, it was a solid beginning, and I’m excited to see what comes next.

Maybe it’s because I just reread the Beacon Hill series but this isn’t hitting as well with me. I made it 39% and I’m kinda bored. The mc’s didn’t meet until 29% and I didn’t feel any connection. I don’t know…like I said could just be I had high expectations after rereading Beacon Hill. I’m sure I’ll come back though at some point.

Not my favorite book by this author. Their books are generally favorites to read, but this one felt too stilted. It has all the favorite ingredients. A necromancer, a curse, sidhe and a cute cat. But it fell short. A bit because it’s got too much familiarity with the Beacon Hill series, but also because the author was constantly explaining Ezra and his neurospicy tendencies. I love that Ezra is a character who is neurodivergent, don’t get me wrong, but the author tried too hard to make us like him and it took up too much of the plot. Which was another point as there was too little of it. The book is a set-up for the rest of the series I think, so I’m hoping it will get better.

Great story! I just want more...

I love badasses with spooky powers. The fire magic is a bonus though. 😂
This author's books are multifaceted and they have a lot of depth. It's been so long since I read the Necromancer of Boston's story, but reading Grave Sight makes me want to read that series again.
Ezra is so kind and down to earth. He's clever and unassuming. I love him and his sweet kitty. Lilith has sass. 😆 Raum is so sexy and smart. He's so cool! They're so dang sweet together. I love Raum's family. Omg this book is so good! It's funny and has interesting magics and the Gods/Goddesses and the fae. I love Hecate. The ending was so cool! I want to know what Ezra will do next with his growing power. I can't wait for more!

Delighted to be back in a Sheena Jolie urban romantasy series. I love the Beacon Hill Sorcerer, and this is BHS-adjacent, with an entirely new hero, curse-breaker Ezra Redmayne, who has fire and necromancy powers in a world where most sorcerers have only one ability.

There’s an unnatural magical blizzard wreaking havoc on a 5-mile radius of an archeological dig site, and Ezra’s been hired by the government MERS group to find the source and solve the problem. The first several chapters are dedicated to the plot, getting him into the chaos and figuring out the problem and the villain. It’s an astronomically powerful relic tht turns out to have a most unusual and heart-rending situation of a life-death ouroborus fueling it…something Ezra can’t fix alone, if at all.

Did I mention he has a wonderful familiar, Lilith the “Lycoi” cat?! I love a great cat. Not sure what familiars do, she seems to be simply a companion here, but, she does go on jobs with him. She just doesn’t come into play in this book, apart from making friends and influencing people 😸.

I also liked Ezra's MERS employer Major Grendel and the two men, sergeants Brown and Owens (a very cute couple) who become Ezra's defacto escorts for MERS, making sure he gets where he needs to go and had food and rests enough and all.

So many chapters later, after magical confrontations and decimation and recovery of the relic (artifact?) back into containment, we meet…Raum (pronounced like rome/roam). The fae-blood historian is a teacher and a powerful being in his own right, and he has….helpful connections.

He and Ezra also very, very much like the look…and personality…and pretty much everything about each other as they work together to solve the mystery of the relic, while its escaped villainous discoverer lurks.

It’s a fun plot/mystery, and Raum and his family are fabulous additions to the story. I enjoyed Ezra so much, he’s neurodivergent—autistic, ADHD, and anxiety—and so smart and kind but no pushover, terrific moral code that I love in a hero. He and Raum are a strong match, with great chemistry and complementary ways of being. Not similar, but wonderful together with their different strengths. The romance comes to the forefront in the final third and I was here for it.

No romance angst at all, and this plot is solved/resolved with some fabulous cameos from goddesses, including one who has a watchful eye on Ezra, and I can’t wait to see what else happens.

There is a weird amount of repetitive info, like the book needed one more round of proofing to trim some out, but, honestly, I’m not that smart and my brain didn’t mind re-hearing about the relic, the situation, the info we learned….it didn’t annoy me, though I did notice it.

Overall, a very fun time was had!

HFN with HEA overtones, and I imagine this is a sorcerer-fae continuing heroes series in which Ezra and Raum will be sucked into more danger and adventure. Can’t wait! NO OM action or drama. We hear generalities about Ezra’s past, one bad bf in high school, and just random hookups here and there, nothing’s ever worked out for him. But it wasn’t overwhelming and didn’t in any way take away from his strong connection/attraction to Raum. Totally safe for me! Recommended.

I own this ebook.

4.25 ⭐

We’re back in the Infinite Arcana Universe that holds my favourite Beacon Hill Sorcerer series...yay!! 🤩🤩

Grave Sight is the first book and a really great start to a new series, Cursed Arcana, which is a spin-off from the already mentioned Beacon Hill Sorcerer series. While it is not necessary, I would strongly recommend reading the original series. It is so worth it! 🥰

Sheena does a remarkable job of blending familiar supernatural elements like necromancers, fae, and gods with human systems and power structures in this universe. They are also giving subtle, but clear commentary on authority and corruption that feels especially relevant nowadays.

As with all Sheena’s characters, Ezra and Raum are both complex characters which are easy to get invested in. Ezra is a powerful and talented curse breaker with rare dual affinities, in his case even rarer combination of fire and death affinities. Ezra is also "neurospicy" (AuADHD), which shapes his blunt communication style and makes him somewhat socially awkward. He is kind and loyal, and oh so in need of someone to love him. 🥺 I loved how his perspective added a great deal to the story, making him feel both capable and vulnerable in the best way. ❤️
On the other hand, Raum is an academic with fae heritage and secrets of his own. He is kind and patient, quick to offer any assistance Ezra needs, whether work-related or helping him through a panic attack. They really do balance each other really well.
While I would say their relationship leans into a slow-burn, considering the short time span it develops over (a mater of 2-3 days, I think), it really isn’t that slow. 😅 I do not mind that at all. 😁 Their attraction is clear from the beginning, but the emotional connection builds more gradually, so it feels natural rather than rushed. It also makes their interactions both sweet and occasionally intense as they start to connect.

The plot revolves around a dangerous and paradoxical magical object, and the mystery surrounding it is just as engaging as the romance between Ezra and Raum. It is an interesting puzzle with high stakes that mixes mythology with some original ideas. And the tension builds nicely, especially in the more “action and danger” scenes. At the same time, as in all their books, Sheena allows space for quieter moments that focus on character development and relationships. That really helps to keep the story balanced and is one of the reasons why their books are ones I often re-read.

I also loved hints of a wider cast and possible found family forming. And Lilith, the lykoi cat, was such a great addition to the story! 😍 Cats make everything better, even books. 🥰🥰
I’m excited to see what new adventure awaits in the next book!

I received a copy of this book from the author, and this is my unbiased review.

4.5 stars…This is an interesting start to a new series, Cursed Arcana, in the Infinite Arcana universe. The premise is interesting and as usual the author has created complicated characters that we learn a lot about via the development of the story arc. There are the usual players in this world—supernaturals, mundane humans, government agencies, people with nefarious intent, those who crave power and those who want to maintain the balance between good and evil, light and dark. I like that there are morally ambiguous situations to navigate. We get a mix of supernaturals, magic users, Necromancers, and gods in this case, as well as the realities of the human world. Several pointed references to untrustworthy powers that be call to mind our current government issues here in the US. The message is a clear reflection of what we can see with our own eyes if we are actually paying attention.

Ezra and Raum are interesting MCs. Ezra a “neurospicy” curse breaker with fire and death affinities and Raum a post doc academic with a fae/Sidhe heritage and secrets of his own are working to discover how to deal with a cursed object that contains the skull of an immortal who has been struck by a god created sword that always causes death creating a paradox cycle the god cannot escape. It’s a very interesting puzzle to contemplate. Ezra wants to do the right thing plus prevent the artifact from falling into a the wrong hands which in this case would be some country’s government. He also wants to consider the soul trapped in the paradox and doesn’t not want to cause death. Raum grandfather, as an extremely old High Sidhe is brought in as a consultant. The crisis moment is riveting and I think I held my breath the whole time I was reading. It’s an interesting resolution and certainly leaves the door open for more situations. The ending is super sweet. I REALLY need a meeting between Ezra and Angel and Raum and Cian and Ruairi. And of course a book is always enhanced by the presence of a cat! Looking forward to what comes next.

Strong Start, Slow Middle, Ok End

I’m a big Sheena Jolie fan and have read every one of their books. I was excited this book would take place in the same universe as their necromancer series but it was also fun to read a book that didn’t require detailed knowledge of the other books in this world system.

Ezra is an interesting character from page one and I had so much fun how this book started out. The characters and plot were interesting and unique and I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly the action started.

When our other MMC was introduced, that’s when things got a bit boring. Raum was cute and fun but where his and Ezra’s attraction to one another was immediate and fun, it didn’t hold the same draw as the other couples I’ve read from Jolie. Everything about them felt slow and overly easy. It wasn’t helped by the middle of the book losing all of the interest and action the beginning had. The chapters where Ezra and Raum were slowly getting to know one another was too slow a pace combined with the endless chapters of very detailed history and scenes of people sitting and talking. While it’s impressive how detailed and well thought out Josie’s world system is, it was made boring rather than riveting due to the lack of action and character scenes taking place simultaneously.

The book did come around a bit towards the end but I was disappointed this book ends with a HEA. Jolie created characters intriguing enough though, that I’ll eagerly be awaiting the next book in the series.

It's so much fun to be back in the Infinite Arcana universe! I absolutely adore the Beacon Hill Sorcerer series, so I'm always happy to get a story set in that world. It's endlessly fascinating with so many unique, wonderful stories just waiting to be told.

In this story, we meet cursebreaker Ezra Redmayne. Competent, badass and so very complex and wonderful. Same with all the other characters we meet. Sheena really knows how to write amazing characters, and these ones are no different. I loved them so much, though Ezra and Raum stole the show, without a doubt.

The story flowed so well between solving the mystery of the skull and the romance that bloomed between Ezra and Raum. They fit so well together and I loved how it felt slow burn even though the story takes places over just a few days. It takes a talented writer to accomplish that and of course, Sheena nails it like they do every time. The mystery and everything around the skull was fascinating and very well done. Both the mystery and the romance got equal time in the spotlight, told in a very balanced way that had me hooked from start to finish.

Another great book in Sheena's Arcana universe, as I expected. Definitely check it out when you can and I, for one, can't wait to find out more about Ezra and Raum and their corner of this wonderful universe.

This was good but not amazing.

The first 4 books of the Beacon Hill Sorcerer series are the books I like the best. After them, I’ve found I haven’t liked many things about the rest of the series or the offshoots.

In this book, there were only two POVs, which I’m very happy about (in the later Beacon Hill Sorcerer series, there are a TON of different POVs, which I loathe). I liked the representation, the comfort, and side characters. Overall, the plot was really interesting, and I can’t wait to see more of everyone.

However, there was a lot of repetition. A LOT! After the first three times, I rolled my eyes and said out loud: “I get it!” It was really unnecessary and felt like Sheena didn’t trust us, as an audience, to connect the dots between things. The pacing was a bit slow for me. I would have liked Raum and Ezra to have met a bit earlier, but meh. It’s fine. There was a lot of exposition, which made me bored at times, and I’m not a fan of exposition in the first place, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Like I said, it was good, but there’s room for improvement for me. Angel and Simeon will always be my ride or die, but I’m hoping to like and get to know Raum and Ezra more.

I’ll be reading the next one when it comes out!

A Joyfully Jay review.

Grave Sight is the first in Sheena Jolie’s new Cursed Arcana series and I am SO excited about it. The story takes place in Jolie’s larger Infinite Arcana universe, and I am a huge fan of this world, which includes one of my all-time favorite series, Beacon Hill Sorcerer. Fans of that universe will enjoy the similar vibe to this story, as well as the connected world building. However, this book is very accessible to new readers and there is only passing mention of connecting details, such as references to “the Necromancer of Boston.”

The story comes to an exciting conclusion and resolves the situation with the skull nicely, while also setting things up well for the remainder of the trilogy. The series continues to follow Raum and Ezra and I am so excited to see what is in store for them next. I really loved Grave Sight and can highly recommend it to you all.

First in trilogy (Cursed Arcana). Paranormal. Slow burn. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.

In this spin-off from the author’s Beacon Hill Sorcerer series, a new necromancer is introduced in Ezra, a curse breaker that also has an affinity for fire. While Ezra is dealing with how to neutralize a uniquely destructive object in Canada he crosses paths with a sexy fae professor.

This trilogy starts with a big sequence of action and magical powers, giving a good sense of who Ezra is and how powerful. It slows to give Ezra and Raum time to get to know each other although their attraction moves quickly so that the romance will likely become more serious as the series continues. I am fully invested in these characters, and the possible found family being built, along with hints at how these men will work together with their own unique powers and shared interest in history. Both Ezra and Raum are likable and intelligent, with a determination to invest an effort to be together, while being both sweet and steamy together. More please. 4.5 rounded up

Ezra Redmayne is a mess, and he knows it. His social interactions suck, and he’s resigned to a life all alone. But he is really good at his job as a curse-breaker. With his cat familiar, he is used to dangerous situations… but nothing has prepared him to face the challenge of his last job, not only he’s met with an artefact of uncontrollable power, he’s also met a man who can change his comfy but lonely life…
A new series by Sheena Jolie is something I’ll be always looking forward to… So I jumped at the chance of graving a copy, and lost myself in the story. It did not disappoint, as always. The characters are great, the mystery, solid and well developed. New myths, mixed with the ones we already discovered in other books. Some references to our favourite badass necromancer… I honestly loved every single minute of this story, and I’m looking forward to the next chapter

I was so excited to dive back into the Arcana Universe! It was wonderful to be in this world again while I await for the Beacon Hills Sorcerer finale!

This book did not disappoint! I love that we had a neurodivergent character! I could relate so easily to Ezra. He was pure fun chaos. I love all of Sheena's books! We get action, humor, and romance all packed into one! Most of her characters are a breath of fresh air as well. So many times, we get a powerful character who struggles at every single turn. Here, in this (like her other books), the struggles are balanced and are not forced or exhausting.

I can't wait for the next book in the series! Excited for more Ezra and Raum!

Grave Sight introduces us to all new characters in the wider Infinite Arcana Universe, and I have already fallen for Ezra, Raum, and co. I am really interested to see where where story elements (and a few other "ooh" things that happen) that weren't quite solved, by our curse breaker and professor are going to lead us in further books. I won't say what they are because Spoilers!

I utterly and entirely love the Salvatore Clan and am going to be sad to bid farewell to them when The Necromancer's Reign comes out later this year, but I am definitely excited to see what journeys Ezra and Raum will be leading us on. I know they're going to be fab,

Where do I start? I love the Infinite Arcana world that Jolie has built and the way the stories from the different series interconnect. It makes for a full rich tapestry against which the story unfolds. Ezra Redmayne is a fabulously complicated character and I loved him and his unfiltered thoughts and actions, but also his caring nature - it's not his fault he doesn't know how to express himself. Raum was patient thoughtful and kind and I loved them together. Their chemistry really was off the charts and whilst their romance unfolds there are curses to break, criminals to catch, secrets to uncover and cats to love on. This was a rollercoaster ride from start to finish and I loved it.

Ezra Redmayne is from a rich powerful family. Which he left the first chance he got. He’s now a successful curse breaker. He also possesses a rare duel affinity (fire and death).

Now this is the first in a spin-off series. While you don’t need to have read the Beacon Hill Sorcerer series first. I would strongly urge you to do so. Mainly because it’s brilliant but also so you’re ready for when it all comes together.

This is a slow-burn. As with all this authors books there’s depth, development and a story you can sit back and enjoy.
As it progresses we learn about the main characters Ezra and Raum. And while I was desperately hoping for an appearance from Angel I know that will come.

I loved this one and can’t wait for the next one.

Incredible Book!

This book was Amazing! As usual, Sheena Jolie delivers a book that catches my interest and doesn’t let go.
Ezra is a curse breaker , he’s also a fire mage and a Necromancer. He arrives in Canada to help with a cursed object and realizes it’s way over his head. He starts researching the object hoping to find something that will help. With the help from Raum (pronounced Rome) and his familiar Lilith, he might just survive this.
I read this in one sitting, it was just that good. Now I’m going to wait for the next book. Highly Recommended

a great introduction to a wonderful new adventure and couple

I love that this is in the same world as the Necromancer of Boston but you definitely do not need to read that series first. Sheena always does a beautiful job of representing people. In this series we have an autistic MMC and the way they describe his thoughts and emotions is caring and understanding.

The plot was interesting and it was a slow build to the romance which was then explicit.

I loved the caring between the MMCs and I can’t wait to see more in this series.

This is book 1 in this trilogy. Ezra is under contract with MERS to help as he is a curse breaker. While in Edmonton, he is at the site where there is a huge blizzard. He helps by helping with the skull. When he wakes up at the hospital, he was told several days have gone by. They learn of a professor who will be able to help with the cursed skull. Meeting Raum, a fae, Ezra is instantly smitten. As the two work together, they learn more with the help of Raum’s grandfather. I love this world building and the way that Ezra and Raum were together was sweet. I cannot wait to read the next book.

Story was fine, although I did feel that the neurospiciness was repeated and emphasized a little too much. My main issue was why did the author insist on using "San Fran" for San Francisco... T_T It was very jarring and made it very obvious to me that the character wasn't written by a local. For the record, natives to the area call San Francisco either "San Francisco" or "SF" and *never* "San Fran."

I will give this book a 4/5. I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them. This book did not let me down. Ezra is a necromancers that gets called to Canada for a job. A relic has been found that has the power to destroy the world if left unchecked. He meets Raum who is part fairie. The two men start working together and develop feelings for each other. But they must take care of the relic before it destroys the country.

4.5 stars - I loved this new addition to the author’s wider world that starts with The Beacon Hill Sorcerer series.

Ezra and Raum (pronounced Rome) were interesting characters and I really liked them together. There is a good plot with danger and mystery as well as some gentle humour. Although Ezra is really the focus, we do get some of Raum’s POV as well. This is just a HFN but I see much more in store for this pair in the future!!

Started very well and then got to Edmonton and limped along. No problem with MC being neurodivergent, but the story has just got slooooooow and very repetitive.
I'm also confused cos I thought we were told that Raum's parents were about 200 years old, then suddenly we're told they're both much older. Maybe I lost track.
Giving up on this. Too much telling and nit enough doing. Shame cos I really enjoyed the early Beacon Hill/Angel books, they had much more pace and excitement.

I love this new series so far! I enjoy series that stay in the same world so you can occasionally get glimpses of past characters. So far Ezra is a fascinating character and his love interest is amazing as well. I don't want to give spoilers but this was a wonderful read and I'm looking forward to the next book. For the most part I really enjoyed this! LOL, my bad that I'm not a cat person so I rolled my eyes when the (honestly, quite adorable) cat was referred to as a queen from all the perspectives. (I love third person narration, I just may not be able to tolerate blind cat-loving shit... it makes my allergies erupt).

I'm pretty sure I'll be back for more of this branch of the story. I love the elder fae, the child of the elder fae, and the other child (of the dual fire necromancer background).
