Stumbling in the sand …………………. almost there ……………… just a few more feet to water.
A body. A body rotting in the water!
I’ve come so far ………………. I need the water, but all that’s before me is poisoned!
A hard way to die. And for what? I should have just let her go.
Taran Collins was a long way from home and yet what was home anymore? He had no home other than the trouble that always seemed to find him. The Fire Wind had changed everything and it was up to him to see what lay beyond the doorway that had been opened to him. Maybe there was peace to be found if he looked hard enough for it. No doubt there would be trouble as well.
Ice Wind is a continuation of a series of western sci-fi novels that feature adventure, action, and faith. Christian Speculative Fiction – learn to love it!
I’m a redeemed ordinary person intent on bringing my Heavenly Father, pleasure and a return on the priceless investment that He has made into my life. I’ll never be able to fully repay Him, but my goal is to try and when my time comes to go that I’ll be caught away in the very act of still trying to do so.
Read my books and you'll learn everything there is to know about me in a way that only several hundred thousand words can do, but in a nutshell I'm imaginative and I love to write and at some point in my busy life I have apparently had a lot of time to do just that.
Can a man searching to be a better person, to forget the pain of his past and to stand against evil find a sense of peace in second chances and a newly growing hope for the future? Ice Wind by Guy Stanton III continues the tale of Taran Collins in an era and land that is only partially tamed and human decency or respect for the creator is almost non-existent in too many places. Taran has taken a vow to fight evil, to be a better man and to never inflict the pain he has known on a non-deserving being.
Will Taran find the peace and redemption he longs for? Will this one man help to change the ways of the world? Perhaps, one action at a time, but does he have the strength of faith do succeed?
Guy Stanton III writes about faith in a world where the only law there is is that of the wealthy and powerful, through intimidation and brute force. The atmosphere of the 19th century, rugged west feels almost colorless before Taran rides, alone into town and he by his actions, colors one woman’s world with love and belief in something or someone that cannot be seen. A quick read filled with hope and the feel of the wild west where the battle for a man's soul can be deadly.
I received this copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Series: Wind Drifters - Book 2 Publication Date: February 4, 2015 Publisher: Words of Action Genre: Sci-fi/Western Print Length: 95 pages Available from: Amazon Reviewed for: http://tometender.blogspot.com
I loved the story. Especially how you put in things about god; and how he is always there for anyone who needs him. The love between Taran and Zayri, with them trying so hard not to like each other. And the way the woman is cast in the role of pirate thief awesome. I hope to read the rest of the series and see what Taran's brother Logan is like and how you describe him. And what new planets both or one brother explore and what kind of people they will meet. I would like to read how the brothers are different from one another.
Mr. Stanton has written the second book of The Wind Drifter series, Ice Wind. Again he has written a superb book. The action has you turning the pages to see what happens next and the added dimension of romance.
The story continues to show us that evil can be overcome by goodness and even the odds or circumstances can be against us, we can prevail and overcome the worst of circumstances.
Ice Wind is another great example of a book that will take you away from the first sentence to the last. After started reading the first page I finished that night.
The attention to detail along with using the Bible aspects in an adventure story is still making Guy Stanton III one of my favorite authors to read and recommend. This is 5/5 with a you bet it is a must read again.
This one was even better than the first. A story of a different planet, different moons and suns. But still is more of a Western than a Sci-fi, and the touch of romance made it even better.
The story is still linear. No real surprises. And, not a bad overall story. The world building is pretty good too.
This story picks up 3 years after the first book concludes. And, our protagonist seems to have had no problem adjusting from 1800's Old West to interplanetary travel. That latter wasn't for his side kick though. So the Marshall is going it alone.
The author decided that his first story in this series was inadvertently short on romance, so he decided to insert romance here. He didn't do a very good job of it, IMHO. It was a very lusty kind of romance - literally, the relationship is based on lust and enchantment by beauty and little else that I could discern. So, I'm going to chalk this one up to being a guy's attempt to write a romance (yes, stereotyping, I know).
And, comparatively, it appears this story did not have an editor, or at least not a rigorous one. The syntax was rough. And, there was a consistent confusing of then and than - sometimes the author got them right and sometimes not.
Read for free on Kindle Unlimited. So, it was ok for a free read. Since the next one currently has the same deal, I'll give book three a try. Here's hoping it is worth my time.
Taran Collins is a long way from home. Home is Earth, but he finds himself on a strange planet chasing bad guys—or, in his current predicament a female thief, Zayri LaRarque—and he’s stranded in a desert where when it rains, the sand bursts into flame. When it does in fact rain, Taran takes the only escape route, a strange city buried in the sand, and then finds himself on one of the planet’s four moons where he discovers people much like himself who are enslaved by a race of human-animal hybrids. He is given the mission to find Zayri, ally with her, and deliver his people from slavery. If you’re a fan of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ John Carter on Mars, you’ll enjoy reading Ice Wind by Guy S. Stanton III. In this book Stanton has Taran, like John Carter, a Civil War veteran who finds himself on a strange planet far from Earth, facing similar challenges and through his fighting ability and faith, dealing with seemingly insurmountable odds with a combination of humor and derring-do that is typical of the merger of Western and Science Fiction, but, unlike Burroughs, he includes a dose of religion in the story—in a very subtle way that does not at all detract from a nicely structured adventure yarn. The only negative aspect of this story is some unconventional grammar in the narrative that if cleaned up would elevate it to the top of its class. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my review.
For me, the most essential part of a story is the characters and then the plot. If a book has well rounded and intriguing characters I will forgive the most boring of plots but not vice versa. Of course it's a double bonus if the book has both, and what I love about Guy's books is that they always have very enjoyable characters and thrilling, fantastical plots. Ice Wind has the most spectacular slave revolt since Moses and the Israelites, and it's happening on a moon of all places. I still can't figure out how a moon has a habitable atmosphere and forests and the like, but I've never been one for science so I'll swallow nearly everything. The only thing I don't care for is the cover. I really don't think half naked people should be on christian books, as I don't think that makes for a very good christian witness. Whenever I see the cover I think of slutty romances I see at the library. I don't know, maybe someone will think that's what it is, read it, and find Jesus. I'll be hopeful. Otherwise, I loved the book.
I enjoyed "Ice Wind" much more than the first book "Firewind" of the Wind Drifters series. The plot was more exciting, the descriptions and places more fantastical...I would have loved this book to be twice as long so it could go more in depth and build more on the settlement/people that Taran rescues. I probably would have given it a 5 star. I thought that it flowed smoother than the first and I did not get bogged down by too much description this time. Taran was more likeable to me in the second book which I appreciated.
I always enjoy the redemption factor that Stanton has in his books. I think it is always something that needs remembered. No one is beyond redemption. It is a clean read book for adults. No swearing and a few minimal sexual references.
Taran Collins has been chasing thief Zayri LaRarque across several worlds. Taran tries to hide his feelings for Zayri but can see them all the same. Taran discovers his lost ancestors in slavery and wants to help. Zayri can't believe that Taran is in her safe haven asking for her help. Taran seems to have forgotten that God has helped him. Will Taran acknowledge his need for help? Will Taran come back to God? Will Zayri end her stealing days? Your answers await you in Ice Wind.
This is an interesting series. I like how short the books are. I like the characters and story very much. The characters are believable, honest, and real. The story is compelling, honest, and real.
Another great Christian Fiction book by Guy Stanton. "Ice Wind" is book two in the Wind Drifter series, where Sci-fi meets western. There is less of the western element in this one, other than the cowboy and his six shooter. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review and I really liked it. No swearing and no explicit sex. There is some kissing and sexual references. I can recommend for ages 17 and up.
I enjoyed this book very much. It is a fun read! A Sci-Fi/Western/Edgy Christian Fiction. This one was just as good as the first in the series! I love the Characters and I love the worlds they inhabit!
Liked this book a lot more than book 1. Hope the next 3 are as good. Religion plays a role in this book but you don't feel like you are being beaten with it.
