Madison currently lives with her husband and two children in the Valley of the Sun. Phoenix, Arizona. After leaving the frozen tundra of the north, Madison was more surprised than anyone with how much she has enjoyed living in the desert. Seeing as she had stated on more than one occasion how much she hated the heat, it was an odd move. But it seemed her hatred for sub-zero temps and ice, or really the things that ice could do, won out in the end. When she’s not writing, she’s enjoying time with her family. Madison and her family frequent festivals in the area, as well as local cultural events, and spend time with family in the area. In the summer she is most likely to be found in the pool with the family and in the winter by the fireplace. Since both her children are autistic, days can be a little chaotic but with her husband beside her, there’s nothing she can’t handle. Luckily he is also an author and able to share in all the activities (and chores) special needs kids require. This is the shallower version of New Species by Laurann Dohner and The Breeds by Lora Leigh. Along the same vein but without the in-depth world building and character progression. It's not bad but it lacks that certain spark that would make it stand out on it's own like the other two series mentioned above.
I agree with everyone else that this is a simpler version of New Species by Dohner and Breeds by Leigh. But this is not necessarily a bad thing. I think I will give this series a chance.
The reason that i started to read this book was Beacuse i had read and fallen in love with the series New Species by Laurann Dohner. Both books followed the Sam consept of people who had Been genmodified into a different spices. In Both cases with animal DNA. These people was then rescued amd are now to live in the sociaty. Alone comes bad people good people and romance.
The storie lines of Both books are exactly the Same but Luna Lodge doesn't quite reach the Same quality that New species has. Therefore I do like this book but I can't love it.
Genetically enhanced hybrids that are free from captivity!
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 🩵🖤❤️💜💚 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏 Character development: ☹️😮☺️😍
The heroine:Erica - she is a forensic accountant who recently lost her job and hasn’t had any offers for new ones, though she is not in a huge hurry to get one since she still has 3 months left of severance pay. Her best friend Kate talks Erica in to going with her and her boyfriend Mark for the weekend to the Luna Lodge for a convention. It is a new facility run by the reclusive new tribe that has been in the news lately. there has been a lot of opposition to the recognition granted to the tribe and the land they received. Though Kate thinks it will be a fun time since few people are offered the chance to go to the lodge.
The Hero:Sol - he is the head of security for the Luna tribe and is a bit grumpy about having to show up at the big event at the lodge and appear on TV. He especially didn’t like having to wear a suit and having brown contact lenses because of his yellow eyes that would make people wonder at how different their tribe really was. As it is, his leader Titus is asking him to appear because people are already suspicious of them since Titus is the only tribe member the public ever sees. But the tribe is trying to establish themselves as a community and their freedom depends on it.
The Story: Sol notices Erica right away at the event that night. He has an unusual reaction to her that surprises both him and Titus. Later, he sees a sketchy looking man talking her up, and after she escapes to the balcony, he goes to find her. While they are together, a bomb goes off and the place catches fire. Sol saves Erica, but in doing so, he outs himself as not completely human. He, Titus and the General that has been helping them end up having to explain in a press conference that the Luna tribe are hybrids and were created via genetic experiments by a company called the Horatius Group, who are still after their “property” and were probably behind the bombing.
When Erica discovers that someone is stealing from the tribe, they offer her a job. I have been a big fan of the paranormal via genetic engineering trope, and I loved the fact that this series is taking place after the hybrid’s escape from captivity. It reminds me a bit of the Breeds series by Lora Leigh and Laurann Dohner’s New Species series, both which I really enjoyed.
I really liked this one from the start. This book was plenty steamy and had a good storyline as well. Just because the hybrids are free from their captors, doesn’t mean they are safe. The Horatius group wants a hybrid baby, and they still have other hidden facilities. Plus, there are bigots against the Hybrids, and a man called “The Pale Man” who wants to take the hybrids down. He was a scientist for the Horatius group who used the serum on himself and is stronger than the hybrids. This is shaping up to be a good series.
Ok so take a gutsy woman down on her luck with a knack for spotting patterns and oddities in numbers. Now add in the fact that she would rather save ailing companies then strip their assets and you have Erica. Place her at a party that is the hottest ticket in town with threats coming from all sides and this should be an amazing action packed book. Hmm should be seems appropriate here. If like myself you've read Lora Leigh and Laurann Dohner then the idea of mixing up DNA isn't new. Yes as the first in a series there's a lot to set up admittedly but this just didn't flow that well at times. Editing problems aside I liked the overall story and can see numerous books that could follow. The romance felt staged although I enjoyed the idea of pheromones playing a significant role. Honestly neither of the main characters particularly called to me but I will check out reviews for the rest of the series and hopefully find a growth that interests me enough to continue. Bottom line I've read much better but I'm keen to see what ideas this author has
I was searching for a good story like New species 'one, and I found this one.
I only gave 3 stars because of the poor editing. There are mistakes all over the story. and as I read all the new species story from Laurann dohner, this book has been inspired a lot from those. maybe too much !
If I hadn't already read Laurann Dohner's New Species, I might have liked this book at the 2.5-to-3 star level. Sol, Book 1 of Luna Lodge was published two years after Fury, Book 1 of New Species and there are way, way, way, way, way too many similarities. -Genetically altered hybrid humans -Living in a separate compound for protection -Created by an evil private corporation for profit -Kept locked away like slaves by said corporation until freed when discovered at an abandoned facility -Thought to be unable to procreate with human women -Safety threatened by bigoted humans who believe genetically-altereds are an "abomination" -The corporation in cahoots with some in government -The corporation wants to regain control of their genetically altered creations And many, many more... but I don't want to ruin it with spoilers...
If this story sounds interesting to you, I recommend that you read Fury and Ms. Dohner's New Species series, which is a better executed PNR/sci-fi-action-adventure-hot romance series.
SPOILER ALERT: For anyone who loves Laurann Dohner's New Species series will like this book. This is a copy cat were the men are part wolf instead of big cats, etc., There is a crazy scientific group after them and those they love. There are people who hate them at the gate of the lodge trying to get in or protest the abominations. They are also discovering they can reproduce while free. They are drawn to a woman by her pheromone smell and fiercely protective. As much as I love Laurann Dohner, it is still nice reading how another author tackles these issues. Madison Stevens has a different writing style so in this book things get resolved quickly. I enjoyed this book very much and look forward to the next book in this series.
I'm kinda disappointed...I was hoping for something like Laurann Dohner's New Species series and it really fell short and flat.
Some things were similar (a little too similar) like the genetic modifications with animal DNA (only wolf here) and being raised in captivity by an evil corporation. But it lacked the emotional heart tugging resonance I always get with New Species.
I didn't really like Erica that much and Sol wasn't "alpha" enough for me.
I'll have to think about continuing the series or not.
Such a wonderful beginning to a new series! If you have loved the Breeds, the New Species, and the Skin Walkers then you are going to fall in love with the hybrids from Luna Lodge. The author did a fantastic job of putting a new spin on a group of engineered men who have finally found the freedom to live life the way they want to. This story is full of highs and lows and kept me engaged all the way to the HEA. I can’t wait to read the next book!
I was warned this book had big editing issues and she was not wrong oh no she wasn't. Still it was a decent read. I won't be writing home about it but lets see what the author has to follow with....
So: I am getting in line with everybody else to say that Sol, first in the Luna Lodge series bears a strong resemblance to the New Species. If I were to guess, the author - Madison Stevens - loved so much the New Species that she wanted more of them in her own way.
Having said that, I have really tried and failed at times not to compare the series.
Sol is part of the Luna Lodge Tribe, a genetically engineered tribe with different animal gene strains. Erica is an accountant with a sharp eye who happens to be and have -pheromones- what the bad guys -Horatius Group- need to get one of the males in the tribe. Sol is attracted to Erica and when she gets a job offer with Luna Lodge he moves her in with him. Fast forward few days and they settle into a relationship.
I will not go into further details because as expected Sol and Erica end up together. I will focus on what i like and didn't like from this book.
- I like that somebody else decided to write more of the New Species genre. There are a lot of shifter stories and supernatural creatures out there and not that much focus on genetically modified people. - I like the setting of the story and the slow build of the secondary characters for future books
Now, what I don't really like is the consistency of the story line. It felt like the author is just putting things together while keeping an eye on the New Species, hence the similarities. Unfortunately the hotness level of the males was not that successful but they appeared sweeter at times. Erica was just a plain heroine. There was nothing about her that appealed to me. Well, except her eye for the numbers. She was plain dumb and that is not sexy. A lot of self judgment in regards to the body fat and that got me to cringe. I am way over the poor fat woman story. To top it up she got propositioned by a sweet guy and what she does? She needs to think in the women's dorm where the bad guy was waiting for her. Coincidence much? No, just weak plot. I would have preferred anything else but that.
Then two kids at the same time...to cheesy for my taste and not really felt.
I have high hopes, in spite of my negativity, for these series. I think that the author can find her own way and build her world without having to look for guidance. These series have the potential of being great and match to a point the New Species. So I am going to read the next story in the series and see what happens next.
I am not sure I can recommend the story to the New Species fans but who ever likes the genetic twist to a sweet male might find a lot of appeal in this book.
I Loved this book. Loved the storyline and the characters. It was a fantastic start to a new series. Very similar to New Species but still really enjoyable. Looking forward to book 2!
This is nothing but New Species fanfic, and not very good fanfic at that. It is such a blatant rip off, and considering how litigious EC is, I'm surprised this author hasn't been sued.
I'd been looking for something similar and thought this might be a decent read but it was pretty weak and just didn't make sense. There were also some grammar and spelling problems which is really irritating.
The story itself is confusing. There's this 'Tribe' that has a leader called Titus. You get the impression that it's secret and mysterious and that only the leader is ever seen. So I'm thinking ok - so they're just jumping right in with the genetically modified people. But then, there's an allusion to the Tribe being Native American, I guess Titus is meant to look Native American (Though his only description is that he's massive with dark hair and 'tanned skin . . .) and there's no mention of where this 'tribe' came from or why they're having this party - at one part it's a grand opening and another it's a conference. Well . . . which is it? I'm also not that clear on what the lodge is? Is it a hotel? Surely not - because, these guys are trying to remain out of the public eye . . . very confusing.
Then, it's revealed that a year ago these modified men were found somewhere off the coast of Italy, south of Rome. I'm not sure where the fuck this was meant to be, especially considering that Rome isn't even a coastal city. Has the Author ever looked at a map? Also, the Italian Government want the US to take the lead on this. Uhuh, sure they do. Why!? And how is Interpol not involved? Surely, if there was an international drug and human trafficking racket that was being investigated, someone would have given the organisation enabling international police cooperation a call? And how, after a year of having these guys, is there so few answers as to how they were made?
I also didn't get how Erica was fired from her last job as a Forensic Accountant. She seems to want to champion the little guy. Most small companies don't routinely have forensic accountants on staff, they're usually hired specifically to investigate fraud and other financial misrepresentation, not just to sit around and generally keep an eye on the books. If someone hired her to investigate someone 'skimming' then why didn't they listen to her when she tried to tell them someone was skimming? It's like a Dr suspecting someone has cancer, calling in a specialist and when the Oncologist says 'yeah, it's cancer' they original Dr fires the guy. See? Silly. Also silly how later we learn that the Horatius Group made it happen. Made what happen, exactly?
It was also pretty silly how she takes one look at the top sheet of a pile of paper and immediately knows someone is stealing from them. How? When she doesn't even know anything about their business or contracts? Also, how are they even meant to be able to run a business when a year ago they were locked away, only trained to fight? But after a year of 'help' they're off on their own? What sort of education or experience have these guys got to run their own business? At least in Laurann Dohners world, it was explained how much help New Species had in setting up their infrastructure . . .
It just didn't make sense. I get with PNR/Sci-Fi/Fantasy/UF you have to suspend your disbelief but this was just silly, the writing was also pretty weak and the dialogue stilted.
I read this a while ago, and just listened to it on audio. A nice quick listen. A lot of people compare it to New Species, and yes, it does come up short. The world building is weaker. But it's still entertaining. A group of super soldiers are rescued from secret labs and set free. At first they attempt to cover up their real identity by calling themselves a lost tribe or some sort of unbelievable whatever. But anyways, it turns out to be impossible to hide that they are more than human. At the opening ceremony/celebration of their new lodge, Sol meets Erica and her friend Kate who came to the party with Kate's boyfriend. Her boyfriend who has nefarious intentions. But is he responsible for the tragic turn of the night? The girls fall under suspicion quite by accident. Still Sol and Erica can't seem to resist their pull to each other. Little do they know that there are others watching their interplay with avid interest. It wasn't as predicable as I was expecting, and that was a relief. Sol was actually pretty sensitive and Erica wasn't a doormat but a girl who was open and straight forward. I liked both characters so the story was a fun read/listen. The audio reader was pretty good too.
Sol, book 1 of the Luna Lodge series, is a poor recreation of the New Species series by Laurann Dohner. Different names and descriptions are used, but the plot and scenes within the Sol mirror New Species...down to parking a jeep along the fence to keep crazy reporters and fanatic protesters from breaking through the fence and entering a "compound". Authors can have similar ideas, but the first five books in the New Species series were published in 2011. The next four were published in 2012. That's 9 books in the New Species series before Sol was even published in 2013. This is plagiarism at its worst and no originality at its best.
I cannot respect an author that unethically uses another author's creativity and work to "inspire" their own. Ms. Stevens did that and more. So much so, it's an insult to Laurann Dohner. I will never purchase a book by Madison Stevens because of this example of her "work". Thankfully this book was free. If I'd paid for it, I'd have written an apology letter to Ms. Dohner to assuage my own guilt for contributing to another author making money off Ms. Dohner's intellectual property. I'm sad that this kind of intellectual theft happens.
This was my first "genetically engineered hybrid" paranormalish type of book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wasn't sure what to expect and it did not disappoint me at all. Sol was quite the character and Erica had me laughing a lot. The idea of this group of Hybrids being created and then secluded to the "Lodge" was very interesting. The meeting of Sol and Erica was what set this story in motion. Lots of enjoyable characters were introduced so I look forward to more in this series!! I loved reading about the progression of Sol and Erica's story and cannot wait to see more of them in future books!
3.5 rounded to 4 stars! I read a review for this book and the reviewer mentioned it was similar to New Species series. It absolutely is and I really enjoyed it! The characters were great and adaptable. My only complaint is that it doesn't give a lot of background info. At times the characters felt 2D. Overall it's a great story and I've already started on book 2!
Purchased from Kobo, LUNA LODGE tells the hot & steamy story of Sol & Erica. A hybrid & a human, who join forces to find out the perpetrators behind some attacks against Luna Lodge. Of course they fall madly in love along the way.
I gave this a read while sun taning in the Dominican Republic over the Christmas holidays.
Despite a number of glaring editing mistakes (did ANYONE edit this?), I really enjoyed the story and relationship between Sol & Erica. While the storyline itself was very predictable, it did have a little twist in it that I didn't see coming.
I really enjoyed the authors writing, but I felt that it was a little rushed, like she was trying to keep it as shorty as possible. I think certain scenes could have been expanded a little and the main story seem to be about the sex between Erica & Sol. The scenes were hot & heavy, but did get a little old after awhile.
All in all, I did enjoy the book. I am not immediately reading the second & third, but I will eventually. Not a bad read at all.
I found this very, very similar to Laurann Dohner's New Species series, and I'm afraid that the comparison doesn't do this book any favours. The book is okay but just not in the same league as New Species. I did feel that there were things about the general set up that had not been properly explained. The female characters were somewhat shallow and annoying at times. Also, I felt that we didn't really get to see the relationship develop between Sol and Erica.
Honestly, the author does have some skill at writing and I may read more books from her at some point, but not this series. The inevitable comparison with Dohner's New Species just leaves me feeling disappointed. It felt a little rushed and could have used more attention to detail.
Similar to another series that I love yet there are also differences. Erica is invited to the Luna Lodge with her bestie Kate and her boyfriend. The Luna Tribe are genetically modified humans with certain talents and altered DNA mixed with other species. Sol doesn’t like public functions but is forced by the leader Titus to attend. There Sol sees Erica. They have a certain attraction but try to fight it.
The Horatius Group who are behind creating the Luna Tribe are still working on getting them back. Enjoyable don't know if I can continue it though. Please note that this is my personal opinion and that there is nothing wrong with the book whatseover.
Good author, Great new storyline, Wonderful chances for continuing books and spin off series. I love the new ideals of how this type of shifter (though no one has physically changed shape, their changes seems seem to be all normal shifter abilities but a inside animal and a physical change to an animal). I really have had fun trying to decidedly who I think would be a good match together . Now to sit back and read each new book to see if I'm right or wrong ..
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and while it reminds me a lot of another series that I’ve read and loved. There were a lot of differences but also a lot of things that brought that other series to my mind.
I really loved Erica and Sol together. It wasn’t a lot of back and forthZ some action, lots of steam and a great world the author has built around these hybrid humans. She has opened up for Titus to get a book and I look forward to reading it. Add in the banter, the charm and gruffness of the men, I plan to dive into more very soon. 4 Stars #2OCCJD
There was lots of telling and no showing. I see people saying this book is like Laurann Dohner New Species the story is similar but the writing is not. I was immersed in the New Species books. I couldn't come to care about the characters. These were supposed to be Alpha men. They were not. This book I got to about 75% and just couldn't finish to many eye rolls. I won't read the others in the story.
