The one question you never expect your hot, Dominant co-worker to ask: “Faye, are you dating my ex-submissive?”
Great. Now Detective Zach Pierce will think I’m a Domme and a lesbian. I’m actually a bisexual switch who’s been dying to kneel at his feet for years. And the reason he’s asking this question? My casual sub has been pulled into the interrogation room at work and is showing every sign of being a duplicitous, possibly murderous bitch.
Then again, if she’s had a hidden agenda this whole time, I’m taking my collar back—and that means I’m single. As far as I know, so is Zach.
With the embarrassing secrets our shared ex is revealing about me to him, this could be the start of a very interesting relationship…or the ruination of a treasured friendship.
I’ll be in my forensics lab waiting for the drama-storm to pass…
Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of violence, torture, reluctant role-switching, menthol play and references to an F/F D/s relationship.
Publisher's Note: This book was previously released by Totally Bound under the same title. It has been expanded, revised and re-edited for re-release.
Amy Valenti is a tarnished tease, and her mind has lived in the gutter since the day she realised what sex was. She hails from England, which she doesn’t find quite as exotic and sexy as the average US citizen seems to, but if people want to compliment her on her accent, that’s all fine with her! Her muses are many, fickle and very demanding.
She has a degree in creative writing and currently works as a proofreader/editor. In her free time, she reads, writes and plays videogames. On the rare occasions she doesn’t have a laptop on her knee, she loves to curl up with friends and pets – and chocolate – for TV show and movie marathons.

A hot dominant cop and a sexy submissive forensic hit all the arousal buttons for me. No, this isn't an episode of Bones. Although, I think in Bones, the cop would be the submissive. I digress. In DOMINANCE AND DECEPTION, we meet Zack and Faye. They have been working together for a couple of years in the same precinct. Not surprisingly, they carry a torch for each other but are too afraid to mention it. When a murder case brings it to a personal level through a shared lover, it's probably the best thing for the two.
Zack is an uber Dom. I love his ability to top Faye who is actually a switch. I love Faye and can relate as a fellow switch. I'm thrilled with Ms. Valenti's characters because none of the BDSM people are in the lifestyle due to some messed up abuse from their past. This is a big win for me. Instead, they are everyday normal people who love to get the kink on. Oh boy, is the kink hot.
This D/s relationship, which also included a very hot ménage with Faye subbing for two men, made me want to jump my spouse. What I'm most impressed with is that Ms. Valenti uses little to no fancy BDSM props and toys. Her techniques are pure D/s with some great mind fucking. This is a nice change from some of the books that are jammed packed with toys and fancy machines. Going back to basics is pretty hot. This book has no humiliation and very little pain aspects.
While it's easy to categorize this book as a BDSM book, it's more than just a sex book. The plot development was tightly written, detailing the work life of people in law enforcement. The twists and turns in the story kept me constantly guessing and wanting to know what was next. I loved how her story surprised me at each turn. There were no predictable scenarios and outcomes. It is so refreshing to read a romance story where the couple didn't immediately move in with each other and profess their undying love within weeks of meeting. The book takes us through two years of loving and growth between Zack and Faye. Watching them grow closer together and the ups and downs in their relationship brought a smile to my face.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and whipped through it in a couple of hours. I did not stop for even a bathroom break. Ms. Valenti is a new author to me and I eagerly look forward to more books from her. I recommend this book to people who want to see a different side to BDSM and enjoy a bit of mystery and suspense. My inner Domme says, "Buy the book and devour it".

I thought this book was really uber awesome I like when you have real life people in books and this book really gives you that. They are two people who work together and in secret have fancied each other for a long time but even though you have this they don't just jump into a relationship they take things slow so the story progresses with them over a two year period. I also think it's great how she shows that they are real by showing that you don't even as a Dom always have to be strong that sometimes you have to learn to lean on your partner.
Faye the Female lead character is a switch but at the beginning of the she is in the Domme role she as a character get to show that she has a backbone and is strong and no doormat but she also gets to show the soft caring side.
Zach is also a strong character and he is a very strong Dom and has presents enough to make a switch want to kneel at his feet.
This book has lots of twists and turns just as you feel like you know whats going to come next everything changes the twist and turns in this one kept me gripped the story line and the plot are really well written and made me want to read more books of Amy Valenti.
This book for me is a must read it has it all good character and a great story line with the way the book keeps you on tender hooks it's one of those books you'll struggle to put down.
I enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more from Ms. Valenti. She seems to be a talented writer as she paints a wonderful story. I really liked Zach and Faye. They made a wonderful couple and I wanted them to get their HEA. Of course, I usually do want my couple to get their HEA.
While I enjoyed the story and found most of the scenes hot and wonderful, I had a few things about this story that didn't quite settle with me.
Zach was an amazing Dom who figured out Faye's triggers and made perfect use of them. I also found him to be imaginative and perceptive in his punishments and praises.
It's nice to read a book that shows a relationship that grows over years. It is rare in romance novels, and was a really nice surprise in this book.
Faye and Pierce negotiate a Master/slave relationship over a year of dating. They seem to fit together really well. When they bring another player into their relationship it is for their mutual enjoyment, and temporary. Rather than this turning into a ménage relationship like many others do, it shows that sharing can be enjoyed without it turning into more. It was good to see that Pierce was meeting Faye's needs to switch, where he was unable to be submissive.
The twist was a little left field. It left me saying 'What just happened here?' as much as it did Faye. It was explained well, and didn't feel like it was just added in for action/suspense.
The BDSM isn't too heavy and I found the scenes that were described didn't push limits like a lot of other books do. If this is the type of sexy you like, I would recommend this book. For those into a harder limit pushing, harder scenes, this may not be enough.
I am really loving Amy Valenti's writing and find myself wanting to read more and more of her work.
I really did enjoy reading Dominance and Deception. I totally dug the characters, the plot, and the extremely steamy sex. Out of this entire book, the punishment scene is my absolute favorite. The reason is because Valenti completely nailed on the head what it feels like for an s-type to be punished by their dominant and what Zach did to Faye afterwards, it melted my heart and made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside and I really, really love getting those kinds of feelings in my BDSM erotica.
The only thing, I just felt like the book sort of dragged through the middle. I did find myself thinking "oh my gawd please tell me something is going to happen soon.". This could just be me because when I read a book and things are going too smoothly, I get kinda antsy and need something that's gonna shake up the happy couple. But other than that, I really enjoyed this book and am totally looking forward to reading more of Valenti's work.
Well the book started right off with drama and making it a turn pager. However it was concluded quickly and the rest of the book was smooth sailing until the ending. So the beginning and ending are turn paging but the middle is all one sexcapade that seems to run smoothly. By the title you know something is going to go wrong so you each new case they briefly touch base on through all the sexcapades that you think this is it. I am all for erotic novels and love them but when I started this one I thought wow an erotic novel with a plot and it does but I wish there would have been more danger and plot. So a way to describe this book is it is bookends of drama holding in the sex.
The main character development is pretty good and you can see there is potential to turn it into a series by providing the officers their own book.
This is the story of a forensic scientist and her love life. Faye is a switch, a super rare commodity in BDSM literature, but pretty common in the real world.
Faye starts the book in a relationship with a girl, and through the breakdown of that based on some plot points, we end up with the lead detective, who she secretly crushes on, learning she's into BDSM, and them developing a thing.
The plot revolves around a threat from Pierce's (the main love interest of Faye) past. There are cases to solve, and bad guys to catch, but most of the action is centred on the relationships.
Characters are strong, and enjoyable. I like that Faye is a switch. I like that she ends up with both a Dom and sub, I only wish her sub was female. C'est la vie =)
I loved this book! Zach and Faye are a great D/s couple - their power play is intense. Faye is a switch, and begins the book as a Domme with a female sub (which ends badly,) but her heart already belongs to Zach in an entirely different role. When they get together, Zach and Faye light up the bedroom (and the book pages) with their heat. Things happen that cause great pain for them, both emotionally and physically. Amy Valenti adeptly writes the suspense in the story, and then brings it all together for the HEA I'm always looking for - thanks Amy! So please, take my advice and read this book. And read Amy's other books - they are ALL 5 star stories - you'll love them!

This book made me lose sleep. I couldn't put it down! This face paced book gets to the good stuff as fast as anyone could desire. Who can resist a couple of cops and their coworker sorting out their kink with a touch of mystery and crime action sprinkled in. Unlike some BDSM/romance novels this novel has real mystery and intrigue but don't think that cooled down the scenes any. I would have loved to have learned a little more about the main characters before any one else was added to their relationship dynamic. This in no way affected the pleasure the read gave me . :-) There is a little of something for all tastes ..BDSM,M/F,D/s,M/s,M/M,F/F ...enjoy.
Faye and Zach have unknowingly been attracted to each other for a long time now. All is revealed during an interrogation of Zach's ex and Faye's current flame. Including their predilection toward BDSM, but will these two professionals be able to do anything about it? The erotica in this was scorching, and the storyline was engrossing. Amy Valenti did a great job of making Faye strong and Zach vulnerable when needed, and then was able to switch it around flawlessly and with lots of steam and plenty of torrid punishments that left me smiling and smirking. Dominance and Deception is book that is entertaining, panty-melting, and made me want more of these charming characters.
There is a reason why Amy Valenti is one of my favorite authors. She writes amazing stories that grabs you in the prologue and won't let you go until you've read the final page and even then you are left with wanting more.
Dominance and Deception is well-written, had a great storyline and some twists I didn't see coming. The characters, the storyline and discovering all the dirty secrets are what keeps you reading. The physical attraction between Zach and Faye is sizzling-hot you'll be left in a puddle of lust.

I loved this book. it was a pretty quick read. however, everything was amazing. I think this book could be expanded more at certain sections. You get to the end all excited and busting at the seams and then bam all done.
Cops, scientist, bdsm and a great mystery - who could possibly ask for more. This book delivers all this and more. Faye & Zach are the perfect couple, then add in that Faye is a switch. This book just never stopped delivering.
This was a different read. It started out like an episode out of CSI. We have a cop, Detective Zach Pierce, and a Forensic tech, Faye – no last name – who work together and are attracted to each other. In the course of a murder investigation they discover they have dated the same woman. This added a little spice to the story and piqued my interest. Zach and Faye solve the murder and because of what comes out in this investigation discover they have more in common than they thought and begin a more intimate relationship.
Here they began to lose me. Faye was a bi-sexual switch. Zach is an uber alpha dominate. I could except that the relationship could work, but it just seemed to me that Faye was doing all the compromising and Zach was setting all the rules. Faye seemed okay with it, but really? She totally subjugates herself for this guy. I really didn’t see where he made her stronger or built her up. In fact at one point, he offers her a reward – anything she wants. She wants to top him. Logical request for a switch. He grudgingly agrees, goes through the scene, then a couple weeks later punishes her for it. I did not like that. I felt it was wrong. They did discus it and come to terms about it, but well, it disturbed me.
Roughly two thirds of the book was spent on their relationship that spanned two years. One sex scene after another. I began to wonder, after this long and as heavy as they were getting into their relationship, why they hadn’t moved in together. The last third of the book went back to cop work and then I found out why. There was more story plot to deal with. I can’t say I was very surprised at where the story went. I kind of expected something of this sort from the set up in the first part of the book. I was surprised at the perpetrator though. That came out of left field.
The way it was handled by Zach only reinforced my impression of him being an uber alpha that must do things his way. I was one of the ones angry with what happened. I wanted to deck him so bad! But everyone eventually accepted his decisions and forgave him. Grr! Arg!
I am going to split the differences between I so didn’t want to finish this book and I can’t turn the pages fast enough to finish. I experienced both with this. I felt Faye was too easy on the one hand, but she wanted what she wanted and went after it. I didn’t care for Zach very much, but he did have his moments. The endless sex in the middle got a bit repetitive, but surprisingly inventive at times. When there was action happening it was heart stopping and exciting.
The fans of the CSI franchises should like this with its forensics and cop action. Fans of kinky erotica will love it. I just thought there could have been a better blending of the two. Otherwise, a decent read.

First off I must say the author Amy Valenti is an incredible author, that ive been reading for a few years now. I've always loved how different she is from other writers of the same genre. She's a fresh of breath air ! Now onto the book. You may have seen dominance and deception before, but this is a revised addition with changes so you will want to read this newer version as well! Zach and Faye are both in law enforcement, and they both have the same sexual lifesytle. Zachs a dom and Faye is a switch needing both ends of the whip so to speak. When an ex sub of both of there's ( Faye is Bi) ends up caught up in trouble, alot comes into play. We learn alot about the both of them as it takes over a span of a couple years of there relationship, testing limits at times in more ways then one! Faye being a switch loves her submissive side with Zach, but also needs her dominate side , and after some back an forth he agrees, and lets Faye top him. Although he gets her back later on! With there relationship building, secrets coming unhinged, and there ex being interrogated everything starts erupting ! This has a great plot , with twists you dont expect, and your attention is held throughout the book. Trust me no boring spots in this book! Anyone that loves hot kink, and mystery will absolutely love Dominance and Deception. You may even get some ideas while reading ;) This is an hea so you won't be disappointed, with strong characters.
I was enjoying the book up until Santoro entered the scene...but, this is purely personal preference. You should make up your own mind.
The writing is well done and the background story engaging. It just was a bit unbelievable for me that Sir would pull in another of his subordinate coworkers after being very closed mouth about his BDSM proclivities.
and FYI there is a warning for F/f interaction but, there is also MM interaction.

The overall story was good. The writing was good. The sex became redundant though. I guess there was no creativity? But...what left me completely puzzled
