In the Line of Duty #4

His Moment to Steal

Rate this book

Once a thief, always a thief…and he’s just walked away with her heart.

In the Line of Duty, Book 4

Ex-military security specialist Luke Phillips would like nothing more than to walk away from his latest job, especially when he realizes the upscale market owner is the daughter of the man responsible for his year spent in juvie.

Except he promised the kids at the community center new and updated equipment. He has no choice but to keep to himself and try not to get mixed up with Emery Vincent. No matter how sweet and sexy she is.

One look at Luke starts Emery’s heart fluttering—along with other specific body parts. But she knows better than to act on those urges with a bad boy who looks at her like he’s been living off rations and she’s the market’s hot lunch special.

But when he rescues her and bandages up her scuffed knee, the heat between them explodes. While a future between them is impossible, hot, sweaty sex is guaranteed—at least until the job is done. Unless Luke can let go of the past and risk it all for love.

This book contains a smoking-hot ex-convict from the wrong side of the tracks, and a silver-spoon lady who gets oh, so much more than she bargained for when she hires him for a job.

This is a sweet short book. The story line is short. Min angst/ plot/ character developments. There is that insta lust/ love. I do like Luke. He is mischief. Handsome mischief. He is also optimist despite bad thing that happen to him.

This book can be categorize as novella since it is short.

Buona lettura!

“She laughed and he reached over Rex to run her hair through his fingers. The second he touched her, electricity sparked between them.”

5 stars!! What a beautiful and touching love story!

Luke and Emery have had a tumultuous relationship from the start. Luke spent a good part of his life in juvie thanks to Emery’s dad. And his new job he’s forced to work around her and as much as he doesn’t want to, he’s made a promise to the kids at the community center to put in new playground equipment. He’s also vowed not to talk to Emery, no matter how much she tries to get his attention. Emery can’t help the lust she feels when she looks at Luke, but she fights her urges as best she can, that is until she gets injured and he helps her with her injury. And let me just say there’s explosions of fireworks. But is that all they can handle, just a “friends with benefits” relationship or will their feelings get involved??

Luke is…..ugh….I don’t think I have enough words to describe this sexy bad boy! And the attraction between Luke and Emery is off the charts. I really love this series, more than I ever thought I would, to be honest with you. Each book has so much heart and the characters are different and fun. Definitely worth the read!

4.0 RATING- I think Cathryn Fox is one of those authors that doesn't get enough attention from my GR friends. His Moment to Steal wasn't my favorite book of hers but overall I think the In the Line of Duty series is a pretty strong contemporary romance series. The writing is good and the steamy scenes are hot. It's definitely a series I'll stick with and I hope to branch out and read other series from this author to see if I like as much.

Emery Vincent is now running the families grocery store and she cannot figure out why they are losing money. She decides to hire a security firm and it is run by Luke Phillips who is attracted to her the moment he sees hear. The only problem is later when her father finds out that he is the person she hired he does not like it because he had Luke sent away to juvie for shoplifting when he was a teen. That experience had a life changing effect on Luke and his family in more ways than one. He later joins the army and becomes a Ranger and when he gets out sets up a security business and works at the local boys and girl’s community center that is also run by one of his friends. You find out that he has set up a scholarship for his sister who he has not spoken to since he went away to juvie since his father said to stay away. Now as he is getting closer to Emery he finds her taken care of her brother who is handicap and though him they actually start having a relationship other than work. As they are getting closer her father still does not like him and though a serious of events due to an allergic reaction to peanuts she ends up with him in the hospital. The story goes along and she is still losing money and product when he decides to add two more cameras and that very night catches the person who is stealing. The next day when they find the money gone he comes in gives her the money and leaves, the father telling her he told her so. But later when she looks at the video she sees that it has been her father stealing all this time and was willing to let Luke take the blame and then asks him what he stole when he sent him away and said it was a jar of peanut butter. She knew even back then he did not steal it but took the fall for a friend due to his allergic reaction. She then had to find him and make it right after dealing with her father. This was a good story and overall a good book. I got this book from net galley.

I'm rapidly becoming a Cathryn Fox fan and this story did not disappoint.

Emery is running her father's grocery store on the upper end of town.  She is losing money and items and needs help bringing her books into the black.  In steps Luke to put in new security cameras and measures. Luke has a bad history with the store, but sets that aside to help Emery.  It's attraction at first site on both sides and they steam up the book while securing the store, her brother, his sister, the center etc.

I was smiling from the start of this book, Luke is very playful. we meet the pair as Emery is juggling melons to this funny line.

"Now what kind of guy would i be if I just stood here watching you juggle your melons?"

and it just gets better from here.  Cathryn takes us through some ups and downs with some shining honest moments mixed in.  One can not help but fall in love with Luke and all her does for his sister, friends and strangers that just need a helping hand.

Add in some pretty hot sex scenes (very hot) and you have a great read.

I'm anxious to read the others in this series as I'm sure they will be just as Hot!

other great lines

"Maybe he should check to see if he was menstruating, or better yet, head on over to Sky Bar and get one of the guys to kick him in the ovaries"

"I'm going to F**k you so hard" His c**k jumped against her stomach, and her pussy clenched and moistened with need.  "I'm going to take you to my bed and make you come with my mouth, and then my fingers.  And just when you think you can't come anymore, I'm going to pull you down onto my c**k and f**k you until you scream out my name  I promise you that"

His Moment to Steal by Cathryn Fox is another hot addition to her In the Line of Duty series. I have read and enjoyed the first three books and this one is equally as good. I really liked the main characters in this story because they were amazingly kind-hearted, down to earth, and always put the needs of the people they cared about ahead of their own.

Emery Vincent is a smart and beautiful woman who owns an upscale grocery store. She took it over from her father after he survived a heart attack. Unlike her father, Emily has a heart of gold and helps those who are less fortunate. Over the last year or so, her store has been losing money, and Emily believes it is due to theft. Thus, she hires a security company to install some additional hardware and figure out what is going on. Luke Phillips is an ex-military security expert with a past that involves Emery's father. Luke has worked hard to be a success and has made many sacrifices in order to ensure his family and friends are safe. Emery and Luke are attracted to each other instantly, which results in scorching heat that evolves into much more.

Whew, this is a hot one! Emery and Luke are wonderful together, and they challenge each other without even knowing it. This is a well-written book with some twists and turns that kept me engaged from beginning to end. Although this is the fourth book from Ms. Fox's In the Line of Duty series, it can be read as a standalone. However, the first three books are really good, so you may want to check them out.

Every book in this series just keeps getting better and better! I have fallen in love with each of the characters in this series and with every one I read, I always wonder how the author can top herself. Each time, she proves that she totally can. Cathryn Fox does a fantastic job in mixing a great story with laugh out loud moments, endearing characters and sexy as sin dialogue.

"I'm going to tear your clothes off, put my hands and mouth all over your body, and then I'm going to take you. Hard. So tell me, do you still want me to come in?"

Luke is a security expert who's job is to upgrade the security at Emery Vincent's upscale grocery to try and catch a thief. But Luke has a history with the place that he would the place he would rather forget. Her father sent him to juvie. Luke's emotions are completely conflicted. On the one hand, he wants nothing to with the market or Emery, believing that they are from opposite worlds. On the other, he can't stop thinking about her or wanting her. And when Luke finally stops fighting it, Wow! Luke is one sexy dirty talker! *fans self* These two have explosive chemistry together and those sex scenes are worthy of bookmarking to come back to them.

I just loved that underneath it all, Luke had a solid heart of gold with a very dirty mouth and that Emery was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. Loved every second of this book and read it one sitting. I can not wait for the next book in the series.

This was good.

I liked Emery - though I kept picturing all the 'emery board' jokes one could make.
I liked Luke - yeah 'nuff said. I liked him.

The only thing I didn't like? Emery's father. We weren't supposed to like him though.
Mostly I felt that the end

This is a fun, entertaining read. Luke and Emery are interesting, relatable, intriguing, complex, entertaining, wounded, fun characters. I enjoyed them and their romance. The secondary characters added to the fabric of the story and my enjoyment. I love that we get to see some of the characters from previous books in the series. The story is easy to read and get into.

These books do not reflect how men really think. This is obvious that a woman wrote it.

Men like to chase and do not think you are valuable the more you give. They don’t think “Oh she has done x, y and z for me so I must like her”

First let me say I was given this ARC in exchange for my honest review. So here we go.....this is the 4th book in the Line of Duty series by this author. And I can unequivocally say this is by far the hottest most intense of the 4 books. And I LOVED every minute of it!

In this book you are introduced to Emery and Luke. Two people that have known of each other for several years but due to some circumstances that altered Luke's teen years, they've never interacted with each other. When they meet in the store that Emery is now managing for her father, their sexual chemistry is sizzling! A couple of my favorite lines is when Luke tells Emery, "you'll never again have to juggle your melons alone"! And when Emery refers to Luke as "Luke-o-licious" I truly laughed out loud while reading this scene.

They both have misconceptions of what they thought their lives were about and as their relationship grows and the effect they have on each other all in a very good way....Luke embracing Emery's brother and Emery reaching out to someone in Luke's past trying to bring them back together is a pivotal part of the story.

But let's get to the REALLY good stuff.... the sex is OFF THE CHARTS hot, hot, hot!!! All it seems Luke wants to do is have sex and Emery doesn't mind one bit. She experiences things with Luke she didn't think were possible.

Of course they have their share of misunderstandings, the question is, will Luke fight for what he truly wants or will he fade off into the distance? You'll have to read the book to find out!!!

So with all the kind of dark and MC books I've been reading lately. I was ready for a lighter read. It feels like forever ago since I've read one of author Cathryn Fox's In The Line of Duty series books. And I have been patiently/impatiently waiting for this one.

Oh ok I'll start with Luke. I love love love Luke. He's a sweet, sexy, dirty talking alpha male. His backstory is heartbreaking, I just wanted to hug him. And even after everything he's gone through he see's the good in everything and believes in giving second chances. And he's a tad bit funny also.

Ok if you all haven't figured it out yet by reading my other reviews. I'm very picky about the female characters in books. I have a hard time connecting with them.  But I really liked Emery. I think I may have even had a crush on a female fictional character, lol. She has a lot on her shoulders from keeping her family store running, to making sure her brother has the care he needs with his disability.

I loved the book from the start to the finish. It's one of those books that once you start reading that your not going to be able to put down. It was written and flowed well. It made me laugh and made me teary-eyed. And the chemistry between Luke and Emery is off the charts. Even though this is the fourth book in the series it can be read as a stand alone.

I give this book 5 Out of 5 Stars

I love these “In the Line of Duty” books. The guys are all Alpha and the women are spunky – my favorite kind of combination – and His Moment to Steal fits right in. Make sure you check out His Trouble in Tallulah and His Taste of Temptation.

If you take on the latest in the series, be prepared for some steam because the story is rough and coarse and sexy as hell, just like its hero. Luke is off-the-charts sexy but he’s carrying around a lot of baggage. Spending time with Emery, daughter of an old enemy, though, quickly has him reconsidering some of his views. He’s as stubborn as he is hot so it is hard for him to let go completely and learn to trust, which isn’t going to lead to an easy HEA.

Emery’s been let down enough times not to expect much from people. While it seems like what they have is a no-strings affair, emotions get involved pretty quickly (of course). And as much as she wants to give her heart and trust to Luke, it isn’t easy for her. His hesitancy to let her all the way in doesn’t help things much so you know there is going to be trouble in paradise. The ending though had me all smiles and squishy feelings though, just the way I like it.

With smooth writing, delectable characters and sizzle between the sheets, Fox delivers another winner!

Memories from all those years ago come flooding back to Luke as he realizes that he will be working for the family that made an example out of him by pressing charges for him stealing from their market instead of trying to find out why he needed to steal the food in the first place.
He didn't think that he could do it, but he made a promise to the kids at the community center and he intended on keeping it no matter how uncomfortable he felt.
Luke was pleasantly surprised that he was dealing with the owner's daughter instead of the owner. No love loss there.
Emery was doing all she could to keep her family's market from going under, but someone was stealing from them and she needed to find out who and stop them as soon as possible. Bringing in the security company that Luke ran was her last and best ditch effort to get this taken care of. She had no idea how much she would be attracted to him.
Luke couldn't seem to get Emery off of his mind and he wanted to help her find out who was stealing from her market. What would she think when she finally found out about all those years ago and how much her father hated him?

I'm definitely looking forward to reading more in this great series.

I was given an ARC for an honest review. All conclusions and mine and mine alone.

Just when I think I've read the best book in the series, I move on to the next book and find myself loving that one just as much. At this point, I can't pick a favorite! All of the stories are soo good and I love the fact that they all have some sort of forbidden element to them.

Luke is a former military consultant who now owns his own security company after leaving the armed forces. Set to meet with the owner of Taylor Market, he is memorized by a woman named Emery, who turns out to be the owner of the store. Gasp! But that's not all. Twelve years earlier, Luke was sent to juvie for three years after the former owner, Emery's dad, accused him of stealing. Despite their differences, the two are undeniably drawn to one another and can't fight the passion that has quickly blossomed between them.

Another great read with a swoon worthy hero and strong heroine.

LOVED this book!! It's the fourth in a series but easily read standalone. I haven't read the others yet but I sure will now!! This book is sizzling hot with an incredible story at it's core.

The last thing Luke Phillips wants to do is step foot back in the place that sent him to juvie years ago. But a job is a job and he's made promises he's not willing to break! To his delight, and probably downfall, the place is no longer run by the hateful old man but by his beautiful daughter Emery Vincent.

Emery Vincent knows better than to get mixed up with a bad boy, and Luke Phillips is definitely one! But the chemistry between them is off the charts and when he shows her his soft side there is no going back!

This is one for the must read list! I highly recommend it.

Well Damn. Just finished His Moment to Steal. I loved it! Loved the chemistry between Luke and Emery, loved what a good guy Luke was, broke my heart on how Emery viewed herself, and those steamy love scenes, be still my heart! I definitely got choked up when Jeremy's situation came out, we've all known kids with special needs, so it really tugs at your heartstrings when Luke has the compassion towards Jeremy that Emery has never seen before. Very touching story about two people who just need a chance at love and trust, and what they find with each other is just amazing and definitely HOT! This is my first Cathryn Fox Book, will definitely not be my last!!! I was given this book for an honest review, you definitely have it!

If you want lot's of sex this is the book for you

I really wanted to give this book 2 stars because it's 80% percent sex and I skipped through a lot of it. I unfortunately like a good story when I purchase a book. This book did have enough story for me to give it 3 stars. I really enjoyed first 2 books in this series because of the storylines but last 2 have been more sex then story so I don't think I will purchase anymore of this series. Just to be clear
my personal preference as far as reading goes is i prefer a good story with action and romance and sex not sex with the storyline being lost

I rated this book 3 stars

Luke and Emery's story.

This was an ok book. There wasn't anything great or terrible about it. It was a quick short read and I called the twist around halfway through. The resolution was really quick and an epilogue would have been nice. I did enjoy getting a glimpse of Garrett and Tallulah.

I was super happy that no OW stuff took place. I thought the connection between Luke and Emery was cute and how they each had to deal with preconceived notions. It did seem like Luke was the one who had MORE of those preconceived notions.
