Sir John Jones spent most of his professional career in challenging schools across the North West of the United Kingdom. His achievements and reputation have led to him being invited onto various panels and think tanks, including visiting posts with both Liverpool and Manchester universities. He has also participated in sponsored curriculum research visits to the United States and Canada.
I really enjoyed this book. After a break from teaching to have my second baby and dealing with some issues when I returned (then left), I am now returning to school and am happy to see that I am still passionate about magic-weaving. I am looking forward to meeting new children and watching them flourish. This was a very positive, passionate book that shares a lot of my views on what teaching is and the importance of being an inspiration to the children I am lucky enough to get to work with. It has renewed my excitement and calmed some of the nerves I have about returning to school after so many life changing events.
The Magic Weaving Business is a fantastic book that in equal parts informs and inspires those working with children. The book presents the reader with many ideas to think about and explore in terms of how we interact with children, the ways in which we can create positive, rich classroom environments, strong themes of what we should expect from ourselves and strive for in the teaching profession.
This is a very powerful book that will motivate any teacher and lay out the foundations of their career in very profound ways. For me, personally, it reinforced why I teach, and supported my own method for teaching. The idea that we are selling something we are passionate about, and always trying to inspire the younger generation is absolutely crucial to anybody being a good teacher - this book explains it well. I couldn't recommend this book enough for teachers.
“In this ground-breaking book, Sir John digs deep into the heart of learning and teaching. For parents, mentors, coaches and teachers, this is essential reading. “
I read this because I have enjoyed 2 Inset days involving Sir John Jones. Surprisingly … the book was almost word for word his talk in his insets, so he must have a pretty photographic memory.
However, it was good to be reminded of these tales and, whilst reading them, hopefully weave the messages I learned from them into my own teaching style.
