I really enjoyed this book. It was a very sweet love story. There were a few parts that had me in shock and I couldn’t believe what these characters had to go through. But overall the love in this book over takes the bad.
Ryan is going through a divorce. Let me tell you his ex-wife is a HORRIBLE person. I could not stand this woman from the moment she was introduced. Ryan only wants to see his daughter Kristen and finally be free of his marriage and the problems his ex brings to the table. Just when Ryan least expects it, Lindsey comes into his life.
Lindsey is Ryan’s daughter Kristen’s teacher. She is always there to help Ryan when his ex decides she doesn’t want to be a mother. Lindsey has became very good friends with Ryan but she also sees a possibility of being more than friends. Lindsey has been lonely since her husband was killed while deployed but doesn’t want to move to fast into a relationship.
These two have a great relationship. They started out as friends and then later became lovers. Sometimes life has a way of throwing obstacles into their paths that they both need to overcome. Wendy was a MAJOR problem for these two. Warning there are a few parts in this book that made me tear up. My heart was completely shattered at the events that took place. But I am so happy that Lindsey and Ryan got their HEA.
Ryan Jeffries is a handsome firefighter that is undergoing a difficult divorce. His ex wife has been dishonest and can’t seem to get her act together. One day he gets fed up with his ex wife’s inability to pick up their daughter. Even through his frustration, his daughters teacher, Mrs. Archer, catches his eye. Although he has sworn off relationships, the idea of dating his daughters teacher does cross his mind. Mrs Archer, Lindsay, has a past and is found out after a bad car accident. An accident that is worked by Ryan’s EMS team. Their chemistry is instant and I loved how they fit together so well. An event in the book takes place and it’s shocking and upsetting. The author may have her reasons for that issue to be brought up in her book, but I didn’t feel like it was necessary. That is my only setback for the book. Other than that, the writing was good and I enjoyed the story of Ryan, Lindsay, and Kristen. If you’re looking for a great Saturday afternoon read, I will definitely suggest this book! 3.5 smooches for Ashes to Sparks by Jeanine Binder. ~Sarah
When Jeanine asked me to read and review this book for my blog I was excited. It's always a pleasure to help out a fellow author. With that being said, I really enjoyed this book and loved how well the story flowed.
First, thanks to the author for providing me with a copy of Ashes to Sparks for me to read in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this story. This is was a new author for me. And I am glad I came across this one. The story hit a few hard places and it could have trigger points in it for some as well. Fair warning. But all in all it is a great story of loss, heartache, love and the power of the human mind. There are so many things that one has to face in day to day life, so many of us take the simple things for granted but with Ashes to Sparks you get to see how one couple, one family will handle those struggles.
In Ashes to Sparks we meet Ryan Jeffries who is a divorced fireman with a bad temper. An ex-wife that is a nasty woman. His 7 year old daughter Kristen is stuck in between her father and mother's divorce and custody battle. But like any 7 yo she is adaptive. When her teacher Lindsay gets in the picture more and more when he mother fails to pick her up from school Ryan and Lindsay take a liking to each other. After months of chatting, living through the nightmare that is the custody hearing for Kristen Ryan is granted full custody of his daughter.
As Ryan and Lindsay's relationship grow the need they had for one another. Ryan's family loves Lindsay, of course and she is good for Ryan. With Lindsay by his side he seems to settle into a new attitude. He is less angry and it's due to the calming effect she has on him. But when things with his ex (who is a total twattwaffle) start toheat up again tempers flair again. And just when you think things will settle down, all hell breaks loose in the worst of ways. Wendy, the hell of an ex has forged paperwork and gotten his daughter from school. Now the search is on to find her.
As the family tries to hold out hope that the events of Ryan's ex don't ruin hm or their family it's Lindsay who stands by Ryan, keeping him in control of the monster (aka RAGE) that has invaded his insides. His life's been turned upside down, turned over and shaken all about. It's the hokey pokey from hell but they make it through it. Ryan does eventually get the call about his daughter but again it isn't a call he wants to take. She has been taken to the hospital and is in critical condition. This however is not the hardest part to face. The darkness that consumes Ryan normally is triple fold now that his little girl, his baby has been hurt. When Kristin wakes from her ordeal it's to her father's face.
Lawyers, testimony and court dates set them all into a whirlwind again of emotions that take over. But in the ned love and family beat out any of the darkness that encroached in on them. Its a true show of love conquering all.
Again, I want to warn you this story may have a few subjects that are sensitive to some. Its definetly 18+ because of that. It's a really good story too. Intense, enlightening and full of a few dozen emotions.
ASHES TO SPARKS REVIEW FOR https://www.facebook.com/YourNextHotRead By Wendy Ryan Jeffries a 6ft 5 firefighter from Phoenix is trying to come to terms with his divorce & the visitation rights that is ex wife Wendy has put on him to see his only daughter Kirsten,
Putting his own life at risk daily to help other Ryan's ex wife wants him no where near there daughter & its making his life miserable, On a few occasions Ryan is called out of work to go pick his little girl up from school has his ex has not turn up , frustrated and angry Ryan has to put a smile on his face & put up a front in front of Kirsten's teacher Mrs Archer ,
Lindsay helps in anyway she can to help Ryan get full custody of his little girl, & try's to help him has much has possible , Ryan feels something for Lindsay but he's swore off women for now. & he most definitely don't go after married women,
While at work one day Ryan get a call about a RTA & he dispatches his team upon arriving at the scene he finds out that it's Lindsay , after she goes off to hospital Ryan has the need to go she her where he finds out she's a widow & her husband was killed out in Afghanistan, but when she moved from San Diego to Phoenix she kept his name to keep men away from her,
From then on Ryan & Lindsay's Relationship grew & they started to date, helping Ryan with his custody battle for his little girl & only letting Wendy have supervised visitation rights , there relationship grew stronger than ever & they needed each other for support.
Then some unforeseen circumstances happened & put there life's into a turmoil,
I thoroughly enjoyed this book the story was great and the characters was lovely I was hooked in the first few pages & I couldn't put it down ,
I will say though while I thoroughly enjoyed it there are some parts of the book that are a little shocking to read, there are some very emotional parts & some difficult & physical parts too that shocked me but the storyline was written amazingly , 5 excellent stars & highly recommend it , in fact I've been raving on about it all day. & I'm going to read the authors other books too , if there has good has this then I'm in for a really good read xx
I really loved the family element to this book! The fact both lead characters came from loving, supportive families was refreshing. I did find all the 'R' siblings a little confusing but apart from Reed none of them played a massive part in the book so it didn't hinder my enjoyment. The setting was fine, the plot fast moving & it never ran dry or got boring (although I found the first few chapters a little slow) once it hit its pace I was gripped. The sensitive subjects were dealt with delicately & not overly detailed to make the reader sick but enough to make you raw to the emotions of all the characters involved. I did find certain parts of the 'non-story' were over detailed & could have been left out. They weren't important & I didn't need to know that Lindsey got up off the sofa to fold washing before sitting back down. That said, it didn't put me off reading & I still enjoyed the story in general. I found the abbreviated dialogue a little off putting but maybe this is how people talk in that part? Maybe I'm just too 'English' lol It may seem I'm being critical but I REALLY want to emphasise that none of the above stopped me reading. I was gripped & enjoyed this novel. I looked forward to picking up my kindle & continuing where I left off. It didn't set my world on fire but it certainly kept me warm at night. I would definitely recommend it to friends and read more from this author.
This is nice read with an array of emotions, ready to take you over. Love and friendship, heartache and despair, are some of the emotions that will suck you in and hold you until the end.
Ryan is a firefighter who has gone through so much with his now ex-wife and the hits just keep on coming. Fighting to gain custody of his young daughter has made him a very hard man, one that even his family has trouble getting through emotionally.
When he meets Lindsey, his daughter’s teacher, after one of the many times his ex-wife forgets to pick her up from school, a friendship blossoms and it seems that she will be the one to finally break down his walls. They decide to take their relationship slow because of everything he has gone through in his marriage. Just when things seem to be picking up for them, tragedy strikes and their world comes crashing down.
The story is emotional and intense. The struggles Ryan faces due to his ex-wife are very difficult to take and Lindsey is very patient with him. There is a moment of terror involving his ex-wife and daughter where I had to stop reading. I felt shaky and couldn’t continue. It took me a while to compose myself and once again go on with the book. Once I got through that point, I was able to finish without issue. The story is very good and flows well. It is an emotional rollercoaster that is definitely worth the read.
The story of Ryan and Lindsay. Ryan is a firefighter, Lindsay a teacher. The story focuses on Ryan's ex-wife and the custody battle he is going through over their daughter. Lindsay is the daughter's teacher. This is how the two meet. They have both look at each other before, but Ryan thought Lindsay was married (she's widowed), and Lindsay assumed he wasn't interested. I did get a little annoyed at how the story of the ex-wife was so prevalent - and I understand why. Her junkie/druggie ways leave the poor daughter in bad situations many times. But I felt as though Lindsay was a little too forgiving and let Ryan talk on and on about it with virtually no end. With that said, it was a good love story. I enjoyed how they were not young, and their problems were that of grownups. The story with the daughter was heartbreaking, and I wanted to dole out revenge for her! Given that I worked in the D.A.'s office, though, I am unsure about Ryan's brother being allowed to be involved in the trial at the end - but I will let that go. Overall, I very good and complete story. Did I mention Ryan was HOT?!

This story captured my heart quickly and took me on a ride full of emotions. I had to read it straight through due to the intensity, romance, mystery, fear and such invovled. This book will have you filled with anger, give you hope, set you ablaze with horror and leave you breathless at the end. It deals with many real life issues: a nasty divorce for the firefighter, losing a spouse for a school teacher, moving on from such difficult events and trusting in the possibility of love. Add in the fact that the father is fighting to gain custody of his daughter to protect her from someone he once thought he could trust and the teachers own marital problems before her husbands' death, you are left wondering if things will ever go right for the two of them. Especially since the main male character has such a dangerous job as a Lieutenant in the fire department and is gone for 24 shifts at a time. The drama unfolds quickly and just gets more intense as you go along. I found myself living through the characters and feeling what they must have felt. I just wish there were more books like this around! This is not you average romantic suspense in the least.
While I enjoyed Ashes to Sparks, I think that some people may find portions of it very hard to take. There are some emotional and physical moments that are … well, difficult. But if you can find your way past those the story is actually very good.
Ryan has a very difficult ex-wife, who not only made their marriage a mess but who is making trouble with his relationship with his daughter. It’s not made him all that open to love but his attraction to Lindsay is hard to resist. And it is a good thing that teaching little kids has given Lindsay a lot of patience because she’s going to need it dealing with Ryan’s issues. But when Ryan’s ex causes difficulties that no one parent should ever have to face, will her love and understanding be enough?
With emotional highs and lows, heartache and despair, love and warmth, Ashes to Sparks is an emotional rollercoaster. But one worth the ride.

* * ARC given on behalf of obsessed by books for an honest review * * OMG who doesn't love a fire fighter. Ryan is a stronger, sexy, loving farther who is going through a messy Co parent experience. Ryan ex wife Wendy has gotten to where she's leaving their daughter at school. Ryan gets a call that he is needed at his daughters school cause Wendy has failed to show up again. when he arrives Kristen's teacher Mrs Archer is there along with police. when the matter is resolved and Ryan and his daughter are home Ryan can't help but think about Lindsey Archer or MRS. Archer, too bad she's married. Lindsay is enjoying safety day at school when she notices Ryan's fire station set up grilling she goes to talk to him and sparks fly, but when Ryan finds she's not married he experience a feeling his not felt in a long time. This was my first time reading anything from this author and I truly enjoyed it. it's a fast pace romance with very hot chemistry. loved it.

Ryan, a hunky firefighter, is divorced from Wendy and is trying to gain custody of his daughter Kristen. The ex is fighting him every step of the way. She has failed to show up at the school to pick up Kristen and the police are finally involved. With the help of Kristen's teacher Lindsay Archer, he files for temporary custody. A court case is brewing..mud is being thrown and things are going to get ugly. Ryan fears he will lose his job with all the nonsense Wendy is pulling. He just doesn't know what to do. But who knew Mrs. Archer was going to be so attractive and irresistible? If only she wasn't married...or is she?
This is a tragedy and a love story all rolled into one. It didn't take me long to get through it as it was very well written and I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen! Chemistry is flowing with Ryan and Mrs. Archer for sure! (no spoilers, sorry) I loved this book!

Ryan is ready to get full custody of his daughter after his ex-wife had repeatedly missed picking her up at school. Having to leave work and pick her up makes him angry and frustrated. But getting to see Kristen's teacher Mrs. Archer makes up for it. He finds himself attracted to her. Thinking she is married he keeps his distance. Until he finds out she is a widow and all bets are off. Trying to fight with his ex-wife and build a relationship with Lindsay Archer at times is to much for Ryan. Lindsay holds and becomes the friend he needs and waits patiently for Ryan to work through his problems.
There are parts of the book, that are hard to read. They are emotional and something no parent should have to go through. Wonderful story, lots of emotional moments and a few that can make you cry. As Ryan and Lindsay work through everything as friends then lovers it makes the road traveled that much more special.

I really loved this book once I picked it up I didn't want to put it down.
This story is about Ryan and Lindsay. Ryan is a fire fighter who has to go to school to pick up his daughter on the many times his ex forgets to. He meets Lindsay his daughters teacher that way. Ryan and Lindsay becomes friends and she becomes a great support system for him. They first become friends to see if they can become more then just friends. This book does cover a huge time span in it. I think by covering so much it skimmed over some of the more emotional parts. This book did make me cry. I think the emotional aspect of it was toned down because it didn't go into details while the emotional events happened but after it occurred. loved that the title of the book is a line in it. I think thats great when the author can tie them together like that.
AWESOME and Emotional story. This story is packed with heartache, tragedy, friendship and most of all love. Ryan is in the midst of fighting for his daughter and fires all at the same time all the while he is guarding his heart to the one person who is there for him when things get out of hand and rocky. I love how this story lets love build, from a blooming friendship to romance. It shows how life is never a fairy tale. We all love, endure, and concur things in our life that are never expected and come out on top. Jeanine Binder does an exceptional job bringing this story to life and letting you feel everything. I would definitely recommend this story to anyone that has endured something in there life and know that there is a chance to concur it all.
Lindsey and Ryan's story is in a way very sweet but by god they have to go through a loads things especially from Ryan's ex wife Wendy. Ryan is a fire fighter and he has an 8 year old daughter with his ex wife Wendy. Wendy tries to keep him away from his daughter and he has to go through court to gain access. He meets and befriends Lindsey. She is his daughter's teacher and then meet when Wendy doesn't turn up to pick up Kristen from school. Lindsey is a widow but Ryan doesn't know that at first because she has kept her married name so Ryan believes he is starting to have feelings for a married women. There are a few really difficult parts of the story regarding drugs, the ex wife and the daughter. It was very hard to read but it is written beautifully and in a great way that gives the story a whole different depth to it. It is a great story and one that i loved reading.
Dealing with the pains of divorce, Ryan grew callous to his pals, coworkers and even his loved ones closest to him. His worries compound as he thought of what would transpire in the courts in order to be able to see his daughter. Then there seemed to be a ray of light ahead of him when he met Lindsey, his daughter’s teacher as well as a widow of a soldier. The two of them bond and Ryan finally feels happy and hopeful again. But will his relationship with Lindsay be enough to hold his world together when his anguish is growing over the worries of what will happen to his daughter? This book was emotional. I found the story very well written and easy to follow. It is filled with passion, intrigue and suspense. Author, Jeanine Binder has crafted a fascinating tale that at times had me fuming, but also rooting for Ryan and Lindsay that all would work out in the end.
Ashes to Sparks kept me reading into the wee hours of the morning. I couldn't put the book down because I wanted to know what was going to happen next with Ryan, Lindsay,Wendy, and Kirsten. The plot was suspenseful and at times intense.
The characters were complex, believable, and likable, except Wendy. I wanted to slap Wendy right through the book. I fell in love with Lindsay and Kirsten immediately. I really related to Lindsay in particular, maybe because she was a teacher. Ryan was a firefighter and a typical hot alpha male, but what really made him shine was his obvious love for his daughter, Kirsten.
This was the first book that I have read by Jeanine Binder, and I have to say that it was good. I'll be looking up more books by Jeanine Binder after this review. I look forward to seeing more of this author in the future, hopefully more firefighters from Ryan's unit (hint, hint).

Ryan has the biggest fight of his life on his hands…….To gain full custody of his 8-year-old daughter, Kristen.
His ex-wife, Wendy, is making his life hell.
From constantly forgetting to collect their daughter from school, to drug fuelled confrontations, this is the last thing Ryan, the local fire lieutenant, needs.
Lindsay, Kristen’s school teacher, offers her assistance to Ryan, just when he needs it the most.
Will love finally find these two lost souls, or will a heartbreaking incident tear them apart?
All the answers are in this beautifully written tale.
A lovely, relaxed weekend read. It will leave you cheering for all the good guys in this world.
Read and reviewed by Jane on behalf of Red Hot Reads Book Blog. I received a free copy in exchanged for an honest review! Enjoyable, but over too quickly! I really would have liked this book to be longer, but I have to say that I really enjoyed it. There are some shocking moments in the book that I did not expect! I was gripped and the author did a great job of pulling me in! Likeable characters and hateable characters make this story a fabulous read!
I am impressed with the author's ability to spin a tale and then throw a spanner in the works with a heartbreaking scene! I did cry! You won't be disappointed with this book, trust me xx
I really enjoyed reading this sweet romance. First of all, who doesn’t like a firefighter? Ryan Jeffries is a lieutenant with the Phoenix Fire Department. He’s hot in more ways than one. But has he met his match when he meets his daughter’s teacher, Lindsay Archer? But Ashes to Sparks isn’t a simple romance because Ryan’s and Lindsay’s romance hits a few speed bumps, the biggest one being Ryan’s ex-wife, Wendy. However, I don’t like simple romances, so I was pleased. I also loved the ending. I gave Ashes to Sparks 4 stars. Written by Karen from A Thousand Lives Book Blog.
A perfect weekend, lazy Sunday, lounging poolside kinda read.
While Ashes to Sparks deals with real issues like divorce, drug addiction, and loss of a spouse; at the heart of it is a beautiful love story. Despite the negative things in each of their lives you find yourself cheering for Ryan and Lindsay to have a happy ending. Even though the story is only about 150 pages long, I found the characters and the plot to well defined. I recommend it as a perfect weekend, lazy Sunday, or lounging poolside read.
Ryan is a newly single father. He's been divorced a year now an trying to seek custody of his daughter. Lindsay is Ryan's daughter's teacher an shes been very helpful to Ryan abt his daughter while at school. Their relationship goes from professional and business like into a friendship when Lindsay gets into a car accident an Ryan was at the scene. I love how they both move past from their past an fall for each other.
A story of Love, loss and new beginnings. When your heart has been broken and your child is in danger with your ex. You fight with everything you have to protect your child and hopefully your heart will not turn black and you will be able to trust another women and love again. When you start off as friends and put the hold on the lust your will come to life again.

It's refreshing to read second chance love stories with mature adult relationships. No drama, open communication. I love that. And that's exactly what Ryan & Lindsay had. Little angst throughout the book which kept me intrigued & interested in the story. Fairly quick read. Great story about second chances, love and family.
