So, let me say upfront, this is a positive review. (yay!!! I finally read a book I liked!) The Outcast was a well told story from beginning to end, and though it was a quick read it was a thorough read. Nothing felt rushed about it.

I loved that the characters made sense!! Our female lead was a strong, smart female lead. Hats off to an author who knows how to actually write a woman who is not an idiot or a shrew. Our hero, was tortured came off as utterly human, sympathetic and lovable.

I won't hesitate to pick up another book by Glynnis Campbell. If you looking for a quick read to curl up with on the couch, this is a good bet.

Lachlan had fought in a battle for his king but the villagers of Keirfield mocked and hounded him for the loss of his leg. Allisoune was an intellectual spectacle maker until her mention of the sun being the centre of the galaxy made the villagers decide she was a witch.
Fate, the winter stone and a deer hound threw them together in this engaging and steamy story.

I really liked the story. The writing was good, characters interesting and clever, but I hated having to skip big sections because there was so much explicit sex. Ruined a good book for me. I won’t be reading the rest of the series.

A Wonderful, Entertaining & Delightful Novella

I really enjoyed this Novella.
Glynnis Campbell knows how to capture your attention and keep you in curious & rapt attention.

Lachlan and Alisoune are total opposite yet they find they need one another.

I can't say anymore without giving you the whole story, just know that it is Absolutely Fantabulous.

Short book almost entirely set in a cabin or on the grounds of it, in the woods during winter. 95% of the book was in a week's time frame, where a girl with glasses hides in the cabin of a one legged man. He hides her from a mob wanting to burn her at the stake for her ideas on science. In two days they fall in love, after a lot of kissing... and the inevitable... Well, you get the idea.
Not my cup of tea. Some of the dialog just didn't seem like Medieval language to me, and some of the science involved, I believe, came much later.
Ah well, it was short. It's over.
Won't read this author again.

Excellent quick read. I enjoyed Alisoune's scientific mind and creations. She brought an innocence and lightness to the story. Love and conquers all especially to bring Lachlan out of his funk he lived in after the war and losing his brothers and fiancé, especially after he lost part of his leg. Alisoune created many helpful inventions that made his life easier but he didn't think he deserved them. Together they discovered love and growth.

The greatest of these is charity...

Because he opened his door to extend your hospitality to a stran ger, because he offered refuge to a victimized lass and because the he kept an open mind, Lachlan was rewarded with a belief in himself and a gift of love! Well done Ms. Campbell, I enjoyed and recommend this book.

I love books set in Scotland with Bonnie lasses and handsome kilted warriors. This one was a little different to so many with neither heroine or hero being perfect specimens. I think that is one of the things I truly love about the book.
I’m looking forward to reading more of Glynnis Campbell’s compelling tales of highlanders and their adventures finding true love.

This is the story of a knight who has been made and outcast due to battle injuries resulting in the loss of a leg. He has a dog as his only companion until he hides a young girl from the villagers. He tells her that she must leave. Does she leave him? Does she help him as he did her? I really enjoyed this book and recommend it highly.

Lovely story of a spirited young woman that delights in science and a man who has suffered a loss of a limb. Lachlan believes that losing his leg is his punishment, and that he shouldn't accept the devices and ultimately the love Alisoune offers. But love wins the day. Lovely little novella, looking forward to reading the rest of this series!

A misfit girl and a tortured, crippled soldier make for a great story.
An old crone gives Lachlan a stone to give to the dark haired girl with green eyes. She claims it will change lives just having the stone.
The story will make you giggle with some of Alisoune's antics. You will cry when you find out how Lachlan was injured. You will swoon when you,,, well read it for yourself. :)

Loved it! 1st book I read by Glynnis Campbell, and was drawn into the story from the first. Lachlan Mar maybe a knight, but the story still can relate to today’s times. Alisoune is a forward thinker, unheard of during that time period and at times still a struggle today. Being that this is a novella, I don’t want to give away to much....but I already started that next book in the series.

Enjoyed reading

I enjoyed reading this book because one of the main characters in the book needed to realize that he could be loved just the way he was.

At the moment when the plot reached it's most exciting point, I flipped the page to find out what happened and was met with an EPILOGUE and a summary: everything worked out just fine. Sad

So sweet

This was wonderful. The poor little girl who's mind was a brilliant as her smile. And her beast of a man who she helped remember what he was born to do. Loved it

Set in 1542, in Scotland, this tale has a bit of fantasy in it, but is otherwise straightforward. Chased by an angry mob of townspeople, Alisoune Hay stumbles through deep snow to escape, ending up in Lachlan Mar's cottage. Her crime? Talking about Copernicus and his theory that the earth moves around the sun. She finds shelter with Lachlan and his dog, Campbell, even though he wants no sunshine in his life. He lost a leg and all four of his brothers in battle, for which he blames himself.

There is a rapid attraction between the two, which leads to some sexual content. It isn't lurid. The cover is nice, but it's missing an important element: her spectacles, which play an important part in the story. At the very end, when Lachlan was rescuing Alisoune, the story stopped dead, followed by the Epilogue. It appeared that the most exciting part, the resolution of her problem, had been left out of the KU edition.

The author makes it a point to say that it isn't AI created. It has none of the earmarks of error-ridden AI abominations. A very enjoyable quick read.

This lively story introduces you to Lachlan Mar, a disabled soldier depressed and lonely, currently trying to drink his way into unconsciousness, when he is disturbed and given a task of great importance by an old witch. Does he take this grave responsibility seriously? Heck No! He's too muddled from drinking and trying to forget all of his sorrows. When Alisoune Hays barges through his cabin door later that same snowy winter night, his world is turned upside down. I enjoyed the fact that Alisoune was a very smart and clever girl that found solutions to the problems she encountered in her day-to-day life, and she was generous enough to help Lachlan find ways to make his life easier with his disability. This story had a very unique plot with a sprinkling of magic and a hefty dash of a fast growing, all-consuming romance. Very entertaining and a very good read!!!!!

The Outcast: A Grumpy/Sunshine Scottish Historical Redemption Romance (Scottish Lasses), my first read from author Glynnis Campbell, an author my wife, a scottish lass herself, has been reading for years, 176-pages of Scottish historical romance, a prequel to the Scottish Lasses series. With more than 80 books published, my wife as a fan and a recent trip to Scotland I look forward to reading more from this this author with Lady Danger: An Enemies to Lovers Scottish Medieval Romance Adventure (The Warrior Maids of Rivenloch Book 1) high on my TBR list. “I received a complementary Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

I guess if you use words like 'twas and 'tis enough in a book it sounds like someone is speaking with a Scottish accent? Sheesh - almost every sentence had one of these, or similar, words in it. Lachlan Mar was injured in a war and returned missing his leg. He is now a recluse in a cabin outside of town. Alisoune Hay sells spectacles and believes in science, something the local priest objects to. He tries to capture her to burn her as a witch, and she ends up hiding out in Lachlan's cabin. Short, thankfully!

A heartwarming, humorous, medieval story of a brilliant female scientist way ahead of her time who is accused by ignorant townspeople of being a heretic and witch. She stumbles upon a cottage and meets her knight in shining armor, only he is battered and broken from the bloody battle where he lost his brothers, his leg, and his love of life.

Through patience and love, Alisoun heals Lachlan, and the passion they find in each other fills the emptiness in both of their lonely lives.

Such a good start

I was thoroughly enjoying the story. The hero was my favorite and the heroine grew on me as I got deeper into the story. I was all prepared for an exciting ending and maybe a lovely epilog. It was such a disappointing let down when I got to the last page and nothing. I was left hanging with no satisfaction. The villains didn't get their dew justice. Not something I will ever read again.

Different plot whereby the heroine is a scientific inventor way ahead of her time who helps a warrior damaged both emotionally through loss and a missing leg. Winning Lachlan through her kindness and cleverness it ultimately saves her own life. Somewhat steamy but otherwise fascinating on the difference she makes despite the religious men who want to burn her at the stake.
