A notorious international jewel thief, infamous for committing his crimes at midnight while leaving no witness alive; the detectives of Scotland Yard who are trying to catch him; and one young woman caught in the middle and unable to put her trust in either side. This is the situation Inspector Reynolds finds himself in as he races to capture the mysterious Zaldo before he commits another midnight murder.

British author Elaine Hamilton (1882–1967) wrote detective mystery novels in the Inspector Reynolds of Scotland Yard series during the 1930s. The Westminster Mystery published in 1930 was the first of these. Other titles in the series include Murder in the Fog (1931), The Green Death (1932), The Chelsea Mystery (1932), The Silent Bell (1933), Peril at Midnight (1934), Tragedy in the Dark (1935), The Casino Mystery (1936) and Murder Before Tuesday (1937).
Pretty average. Mediocre hokum might be a fairer description.
Set in Paris and London, it features romance, murder, attempted murder, jewel robbery and a lot of deception. Unfortunately the central mystery, the identity of "Mr Big" aka master thief , Zaldo, was not too difficult to fathom.
My second foray into this author and my last, for the moment.
