A book to understand royal Rajasthani traditions, rituals, festivals and cultural practices
Any time is festival time as far as the royal traditions are concerned. The Hindu cultural traditions are continuing for centuries with the patronage of royal families across the Indian sub-continent. However, only few royal families could continue their living traditions due to several factors such abolition of princely rules during the British Raj and later after independence through the Zamindari Abolition Acts in different states of India. While existence of royal courts is in question, erstwhile royal families lost their interests as well as financial capabilities to continue their royal traditions in a spectacular way. However, Jaipur Royal Court, under the patronage of Maharajas of Jaipur, has been exceptionally continuing cultural festivals at their premises. Although Maharajas are no longer ruler of the princely state, these festivals turned into major tourist attractions where many foreign and Indian travelers enjoy every bit of festivity at the royal court. This book is divided into eight chapters, namely, (i) Introduction, (ii) Vasant, the Spring Season, (iii) Greeshma, the Summer Season, (iv) Varsha, the Rainy Season, (v) Sharad, the Autumn Season, (vi) Hemant, the Cold Season, (vii) Shishir, the Dewy Season, (viii) Calendar of Festivals.
This book describes a calendar of festivals based on rituals and celebrations in Hindu traditions. The calendar depicts every season has some rituals or occasions to celebrate. Authored by architecture professor Vibhuti Sachdev, this book helps in understanding royal Rajasthani traditions, rituals, festivals and cultural practices.
