Laura and Dan Matthews have recently moved to Blaencwm from the big city. Blaecncwm is an extremely old longhouse high up in the hills in Wales. Laura is a struggling artist in need of inspiration, which she hopes she fill find in the countryside, and a woman who very much desires a child, as does Dan. Enter Rhys. Rhys is a neighbor who is very much enthralled with Laura and pursues her relentlessly. Another wonderful neighbor, Anwen, is an older woman who lives nearby. Anwen doesn't always make a lot of sense to Laura; nevertheless, within her ramblings lie some wisdom if one listens closely. As if those two neighbors aren't enough, there's Merlin. Yes, THAT Merlin. Merlin once lived in this remote area, and he loved to roam the hills - with his young grey wolf by him at all times. Eventually, Merlin meets Megan, and he falls deeply in love with the young lady . Megan is under the employ of the ruthless and hated Lord Geraint, as nursmaid to his children. Geraint hears that Merlin is becoming quite the magician and tries to force him to do some things that are immoral, unethical, and go against everything Merlin stands for. However, if he refuses, Geraint decides to use Merlin's love for Megan to try to force him, hinting that if he won't, it's Megan who will pay. Forward to present day, and you will learn how Laura, Rhys, Anwen, Megan, and Merlin's stories all intertwine, despite the eons of years between them. This book will grab your attention and keep it. It's a great read.
