Positive thoughts: I love how Miriam showed Alex how she saw him through her eyes. He needed to see how worthy he was. - The chemistry was great between our main characters. - I loved how the book showed us how doctors back in the day worked and how hard it was to treat someone.
Negative thoughts: - There is a scene where our main characters free themselves from a dangerous situation and Miriam runs for help. The fact that he has a busted knee still healing, seems a bit impossible that she's ran the way she did. - There were some contradicting plot holes, but the whole story was good enough for me to ignore them.
Overall: - This was a clean, proper, christian romance with a bit of chemistry and drama and action. - It was an easy read and a it will keep you rooting for our main characters.
Tropes: - Mountain girl - Small town doctor - Christian romance - Doctor with a past - Clean and proper
Misty M Beller has given readers another great Christian historical romance to enjoy. I laughed my way through a good portion of it thanks to her witty and charming hero. You won't regret buying this book. :)
I listened to this book free on YouTube and enjoyed it. The ads interrupting the story throughout stole my focus at times, but I was able to get right back into the story. If you like Christian Historical Romance, I recommend this author's work.
This is the second book in Misty Beller's Mountain Dream series. We have Miriam's story here, who is injured when a mountain lion attacks her. She is taken to town and must remaint here for several weeks as she heals. The town doctor provides the romantic element here.
I won't go into more of the synopsis for fear of including spoilers. Misty Beller has written a very nice and godly book, one that will appeal to any reader of Christian fiction. The book is set out west, which is a time and place I enjoy reading about.
*I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for my honest review, which I have given.
I loved the first book in this series, but struggled to finish this one. I didn't feel like Miriam was even the same character. And had I read it as a stand alone, she had no interesting qualities at all. Not to mention the impropriety of a single women staying with 2 single men!
The Lady and the Mountain Doctor is such a beautifully sweet story. I loved every page. The characters felt so real that I felt as though they were someone I knew. All around this is a great book! 5 plus stars.
I enjoyed reading another sweet historical romance in this series set in a mining town of the Montana Territory. You don't have to have read the previous book to jump right in with this one. The medical treatments seemed well researched, and the characters are easy to love.
I liked all of the characters. Yes, even the bad guy. I liked both the primary and secondary story lines. I longed for an epilogue to finalize the stories.
"I realized God had something better planned for me all along. It's not seeing new sights that will make me happy, it's finding His plan for me. Finding my purpose. What He created me to do." ~ Miriam
The next book in The Mountain Series finds Miriam, Gideon’s little sister, attacked by a mountain lion. Desperate to save his sister and to not lose his last living family member, he rushes down the mountain to Butte City to find the doctors he and Leah have brought to town.
Alex Donaghue has recently joined his brother Bryan in the Montana Territory to bring much needed medical care to the miners and townsfolk of the area. When Gideon shows up with a beautiful young lady nearly ripped to shreds, he wastes no time jumping to action to save her life. Her injuries necessitate her recuperating in their immediate care for an extended period of time.
Miriam is one tough lady and yet she is tender and compassionate. She quickly finds ways to help the doctors and other patients despite how injuries limit her abilities. Alex becomes a quick friend and is in no hurry for Miriam’s healing time to be complete.
Wonderful story of the hard life lived in the territory, of the terrible conditions miners faced and their struggles with poor health. This story is focuses on faith and learning to trust God’s plans and seeking God’s will.
Disappointed. Miriam was such a ball of energy and wit and sassyness in the first book. This isn't even the same character. And then, like other comments, the propriety of her at the clinic for so long doesn't fit with the time or civility of the period. Maybe Montana is different. Still, so dry, so predictable. I loved how well developed Leah and Miriam and Gideon were in the first book, but this is a far cry from that. Bryan and Alex are so flat. Just disappointed. I mean, for what it is I guess it's ok. But it felt childish even in the fluttering romance of it all. If you're a fan of Love Comes Softly and that ilk, which I am, then this is going to feel like a high school crush not an adult romance. I like Christian romance. I loved the first one. But oh my, this is not nearly the same caliber of work.

Having read a number of Misty Beller's books, I was excited to be gifted a copy of the audiobook of The Lady and the Mountain Doctor. I thoroughly enjoyed the story. I enjoyed watching the relationship between Miriam and Alex begin and change throughout the story as they encountered so many struggles and dangers. Strong characters that are so likable, realistic situations, wonderfully descriptive scenes all work together for a delightful story. Threaded throughout the book also is a faith in God--the God who never leaves us alone and can bring peace in even the direst situations. I really enjoyed this book and will be looking for more from this author. Talmadge Ragan did a great job narrating Miriam and Alex's story, which made for an enjoyable listening experience. I received a complimentary copy of this book, and a favorable review was not required. The opinions are my own.
I simply adored the first Mountain Dreams book, The Lady and the Mountain Man, and dove right in to this second novel in the series. However, shortly after that I stopped reading it and moved on to something else. I think it was the limited scenery the book provided in the beginning: Miriam is gravely injured in a mountain lion attack and she needs to stay with the doctors in Butte for at least two weeks. The monotony of the setting might have gotten to me! But I really wanted to find out what happened after she healed, and I'm glad I went back to the book to finish it. The romance between Miriam and the doctor, Alex, didn't have as much chemistry for me as Leah and Gideon's in the first book, but it was still sweet. All in all, this was a pleasant read and I will definitely read the next in the series!
Great book! I enjoyed all of it. Good Christian Reading. So thankful for Authors who can still write like this. The Ladies in this book with their purity are amazing. And the men true gentlemen. Can’t wait to read another book like this one. I disliked the man who smothered Miriam with his hand to force her to do his command. I liked Leah and Miriam’s brother. I also liked the doctored with their different ways. I disliked the man who kidnapped her. He was insane. Yet the doctor continued to keep him alive. That’s true dedication.I chose this rating because I enjoyed the book.
I enjoyed the book it’s great. Pure. Clean, and no cursing so unlike todays books. This was a story with Bible based decisions of life. So glad Miriam and Doctor Alex are getting married at the end.
What a great book! We readers are in Butte City, Montana Territory, in 1876, and loving every minute of this story. The characters are wonderful; the story-line is interesting; and, the genre’ is my favorite. Miriam Bryant is living in the high mountains with her brother and new sister-in-law when she has an accident which nearly cost her life. The medical help was far away but the family managed to get her to Butte, the mining town, where Drs. Bryan and Alex worked as a team to save lives and care for the community citizens. When Miriam first sees Alex, she never thought that her life would change and her future was here in Butte not traveling Europe as she had planned. I highly recommend this book as a Christian read and thank the author for using Kindle Unlimited so I too could read this series. I’m on to the next adventure
I appreciated the second book in this series, Miriam's love story. This isolated teenager in bloom by near tragedy finds herself in the hands of a rare hearted young doctor Alex, when she is rushed to the nearest town. The doctor and his doctor brother are filling a newly established and much needed practice in this small Montana mining town. Come take a look back into the old, wild west at its best, black coal lung disease and all. I look forward to finishing the remaining books in this series, where the history of Simeon and his son from This Treacherous Journey in the new Heart of the Mountains series is foretold, the book I had the honor of reviewing prior to its upcoming release in February in Misty Beller's ARC.
Miriam lives a peaceful and happy life on a remote ranch with her brother and his wife. After Miriam suffers a severe injury, her family travels many hours to the nearest small town where she is treated by Dr. Alex. She spends many weeks healing and recovering under his care. Dr. Alex finds himself attracted to this lovely, smart and caring young lady. But he keeps a professional distance between because she is his patient. Miriam feels herself getting closer to Alex, but then confused when he starts to avoid her. God works in mysterious ways. As Miriam and Alex start asking God for guidance in their lives they each noticed more assurances and fewer doubts about what path they should follow.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I liked all of the characters in this book. There were a lot of twists and turns. Not only did I like the main characters Alex O'Nelly and Miriam Bryant but the others as well. Alex's brother Bryan, Miriam's brother Gideon, and his wife and Miriam's Sister-in-Law and best friend, Leah, as well as the assorted patients that came in for care. It was a moving book. Although Leah seem to have her share of bad luck. Back in the day these things were common. I especially like the little prayers and communications with God concerning the direction of their lives was especially heart warming. I look forward to reading more of this author's books.
A clean, sweet, Christian love story set in an silver and coal mining town in the 1800's.
She is a rancher from the high mountains, harvesting a buck deer that a cougar also wants. When she wakes after the attack, she finds herself gravely wounded, her brother has found her and rushed her down to the town below for help from the doctors there. Two doctors, educated, handsome, and single. Can they save her life? A good solid story, but needs some polishing with the many typos, misused or incorrect words, and even a few places where her history could use a verification, and her continuancy needs cleaning up.
In Butte, Montana Territory, Miriam Bryant wants to travel abroad as a genteel lady. A cougar crushes her plans, leaving her stranded for weeks in a Montana Territory mining town. What a first scene. An image that claws itself in the thoughts of the reader. Doctor Alex Donaghue joins his brother, Bryan in order to save Miriam's life. As she heals, Miriam joins Alex in his practice. Mysterious lung disease is killing his patients. There's a lot going on in this story, keeping interest high. Kidnapping, violence, and romance - the Old West style. I loved it as I love all of Misty's books. Clean and Christian.
Miriam gets attacked by a mountain lion and needs treatment at the doctor's office. Dr. Alex is very attentive to all his patients, especially to Miriam. Then Miriam injured herself again. Oh, so many tragedies during this period.
Miners are getting ill and Dr. Alex and his older brother are trying to help them. Dr. Alex cares deeply and has a tough time when someone passes away under his care.
Alex is still trying to get over his little sister's death. He felt responsible for her death.
When Miriam recovers, she is a great asset in helping the brothers at the doctor's office.
There is a very sweet and clean romance in this book.
I read the first in this series in a multi-author boxed set, and truly enjoyed it.
Miriam is such a sweet, caring young woman. She ends up in a doctor’s office in a nearby town, after a terrible attack by an animal.
Dr Alex is almost immediately smitten, but doesn’t know how to move forward as he thinks he’s not worthy of sweet Miriam. I loved this guy! Especially when he used his Irish brogue and called her M’Lady. However, poor Alex can’t figure out his feelings and ends up confusing Miriam half the time. But eventually , with God’s help, he finally finds a way to express his heart.
Sometimes what you think would make you the happiest really isn’t. As this author so ably points out, you need to ask the Lord what he wants for you. Mariam thought leaving Butte City, Montana and going east to bigger cities would make her happy, but a near tragic attack by a mountain lion showed her that her happiness was where she was. I’m not sure what it is about Misty M. Beller’s writing but when she describes winter weather in Montana, you feel like you need to pull out your winter coat. We’re given wonderful characters, budding romance, hardships and a few surprises. I’m enjoying this series.
I had a free copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. After a hunting accident, Miriam Bryant is taken to the medical clinic and treated by the newest doctor, Alex Donaghue who has joined his brother in the practice. While she is bedridden, she tries to help the doctors and as she recovers she takes on more duties. When her brother comes to retrieve her, she decides to stay as she feels more useful and needed helping the brothers. She and Alex grow closer but he thinks they have different goals. A heartwarming and faith filled book about life in the wild west, and its struggles.
If you love short-stories or novella, a good clean, inspirational story then you will love The Lady and the Mountain Doctor. I personally prefer a novel (the thicker the better) but I enjoyed this book and highly recommend this book to anyone that truly loves a good novella. The characters are interesting, there are some twist and turns that you will enjoy. I do believe if you enjoy novellas you would probably give this a rating of 5. I'v read other books by Misty M. Beller and she is a terrific author. Highly recommend her books.
