Benjamin Elliot, Jr. is a hard-working cowboy on his family ranch. The eldest of the Elliot's he has taken over the reins and is managing the ranch and trying to manage the lovely little neighbor.
Kara McCain was visiting her cousin when she spotted the handsome sweaty cowboy. She wants to be more like the people who saved her rather than the mother that birthed her. Which means she has to make something of her education and herself.
Can a city girl with dreams of being somebody handles a strong-willed old-fashioned cowboy who thinks a woman's place is in the house?
Well I can't say it was the worst but it left a lot to be desired from this author that's for sure. The hero was very beta to me. He just gave up on her and let's her leave to go back to her live in boyfriend. First the fact that they are both in committed relationships to begin with leaves a horrible taste in mouth and that she is gone over 2 months and she is the one pushing the relationship leaves me thinking it was just too passionless. Their sex is boring and I find it was all very 1990 feeling to it. Guys are being guys and girls are trying to be like guys and f@&$ around and drink. I did not like it and will not read it again...like ever.
I don't have any postive things to say about this book so I think I'm going to pass on a rant because it just isn't worth any more of my time. To sum this up, it was awkward as hell... the MC's, the plot, everything was all over the place and nothing made sense at all... Yes, there's smut but even that wasn't good enough to upgrade a star at least.
I am a big fan of CM Steele and I have loved all her books that I've read (which is most of them) but I have to say this was my least favorite. I've read Evelyn and Ryan's books and also Max and Alex's so I'm familiar with and really like the Elliot clan. One of the things I didn't like was that it was only Ben's POV and his back and forth, "I want her, I don't want her" was so annoying. I'm not sure if this was one of her first books but it seemed like it was judging by all the grammar mistakes. I'm definitely glad I didn't read this one first because I might not have read any more of her books. As I said I loved all the others that I've read, they are either 4 or 5 stars. I do feel bad giving this one only 3 stars but that's just my opinion don't let it stop you from giving it a try.
Wanted to like it but it was annoying. The ruination of a relationship due to lack of communication is a pet peeve of mine. Also the writing was so disjointed
Mehhh! Usually I eat up Steele's books like they're reese's pieces but this one was hard to get through. I kept glancing at the bottom of my kobo to see what page I was on and if it was finally done so I could get it done and over with. This had OTT drama and 2 main characters that you'd swear were 16 years old...and I wasn't a fan of the fact that there was bitch and slut shaming for just about any women that single/not related to his family. Most especially for Stacey who was in Ryan's story which I read first. I can understand being overprotective of your brother but he's a grown ass man that should be able to handle his own shit :/
I love this book.....Ben and Kara are both so full of insecurities and don't know which way is up till finally the cousins light a fire under Ben's butt
So far Ben is sounding like a dud, not a stud. His thinking is more childish than archaic or chauvinistic. And he is juvenile in the first few chapters. More boy than man. I give this one a -c.
