Soon to be an animated series with Paramount+ and Nickelodeon! The Complete Big Nate collects every daily and Sunday cartoon ever syndicated. Presented in a numbered series of e-books, each containing one year's worth of strips, this is a goldmine for all Big Nate fans to see many cartoons that have never been published in books. Aspiring cartoonist Nate Wright is the star of Big Nate. As a popular middle-grade book character, Nate is 11 years old, four-and-a-half feet tall, and the all-time record holder for detentions in school history. He's a self-described genius and sixth grade Renaissance Man. Nate, who lives with his dad and older sister, has a habit of annoying his family, friends, and teachers with his sarcasm.
Lincoln Peirce is a cartoon artist from Portland, Maine. He lives with his wife and two children, and occasionally gives lectures to students about cartoon creating. Peirce writes the comic strip "Big Nate". Peirce's comic strip, Big Nate, is featured as an island on the famous children's website, Poptropica. Big Nate appears as the first cartoon on The Maine Sunday Telegram in the comics section.
He studied art at Colby College in Maine were he began cartooning. He also studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture before teaching art and coaching basketball at a New York highschool for 3 years. He currently plays hockey with "an old men's league" and describes it as his best sport as a child. In an interview with the Washington Post, Peirce stated that his last name is pronounced "purse" and is not a misspelling of "pierce."
Lincoln Peirce was a member of the "Surviving as a Print Cartoonist" Panel at the Maine Comics Art Festival with fellow cartoonists Corey Pandolph (Barkeater Lake, Toby: Robot Satan, The Elderberries), Norm Feuri (Retail, Gill) and with Mike Lynch moderating. On the panel Lincoln revealed he is currently working with some animation and licensing projects including the addition of a Big Nate island to the online game Poptropica.
Despite growing up with the funny pages, I was unfamiliar with Big Nate until I was an adult. My local newspaper didn’t carry that strip; it wasn’t until I read it in another paper that I had even heard of it. It’s become a big deal in recent years; at the library, I shelve books based on it all the time. After reading this, it’s not hard to see why; it’s a fun one. Fans of the daily funnies will find plenty to enjoy here.
This comic collection was super funny! It's cool because Nate and all the other characters look a little different. It's also before Teddy. Anyway, someone said that this book was inappropriate and had the word "sex" in it. That's not true. They just wanted to send you on a wild goose chase. Again, I think this was really really funny! Big Nate for life!
This book is really good. This book is about the main character and his life.In this book Nate talks about his life, friends, and family. Also Nate likes to make comic books in his free-time.
The fifth graders LOVE these and obsess over them constantly so I thought I better give it a try.
I was less than impressed. In fact, that is a very generous two stars. I would've given it one if not for how much the kiddos love it.
I can see why the kids like it because, basically, Nate is a jerk. He makes fun of everyone calling them fat and ugly and drawing cruel comics about them. I didn't find it amusing it all. The rudest boy I ever taught loved these books more than anything, so I guess that's saying something. I would never remove a book from my class library based on my personal feelings, but I will not be buying anymore, so once these suckers wear out (or get stolen because that's happened to about 4 of them- kids are the worst) that's it for Big Nate.
I thought I would hate "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" and ended up loving them. I was hoping that would be the case with Big Nate, but I pretty much hated this book and didn't find any of it funny.
I kept seeing these books everywhere, so I decided to give it a try. This is a funny collection of Big Nate comic strips.
I had never read Big Nate comics before reading this collection. The stories were fun. Nate goes through life as an ordinary kid who loves to draw. He reminded me a lot of the Diary of a Wimpy kid series because he has some of the same observations about school and life as Greg in that series. Nate makes funny caricatures of his teachers, friends, and family, just like Greg does.
I was surprised when I got to the end of the book and discovered that it was written in 1991. I thought it was much more recent than that because the stories seemed very current. It would be a great read for kids today because the stories were so funny and relatable.
Now I know I’m not the target audience for this. That being said I didn’t get hardly any enjoyment from this. It wasn’t like cute or even funny. Most of the jokes were about making fun of people’s looks and fat jokes which I’m just not about. I don’t have kids but if I did I would not give them this. So I won’t give it to my young cousins either. Also the art style was very basic and basically this whole thing felt like a rip off of dairy of a wimpy kid.
AWFUL ART STYLE THANK GOOOD PEIRCE CHANGED IT i could see a lot of development from his first book (this one) to his more recent the jokes here r repetitive and so new disney channel type beat but i probably should mention tht i read like 5+ big nate books a month
I think Lincoln Peirce is incredibly creative and Big Nate is hugely entertaining. Although this is a compilation of his early work, it's pretty good stuff.
