Special gifts.....for three magical cousins. New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts delivers a special trade-size collection featuring three of her most beloved stories from the Donovan family series. Three Donovan cousins must learn to accept their mystic legacies while falling under the spell of love.
Nora Roberts is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of more than 200 novels, including Hideaway, Under Currents, Come Sundown, The Awakening, Legacy, and coming in November 2021 -- The Becoming -- the second book in The Dragon Heart Legacy. She is also the author of the futuristic suspense In Death series written under the pen name J.D. Robb. There are more than 500 million copies of her books in print.
Each story revolves around one of 3 cousins, all hereditary witches. Each story was the "finding their true love" thing, but very sweet, and very rich, adventure-filled tales. Now, *this* is what I'm looking for when I need a good "escape book".
This was my first Nora Roberts, and it was a good one - I've been hooked ever since.
Good book. It's 3 novels under 1 cover. I'm glad I was able to read the 3 novels straight through.
The sex scenes were very well written. But the sex scenes in each of the 3 novels (with 3 different couples) was treated basically the same way with the sex being at times almost violent with ripping off clothes and and very intense. I guess I looked at the way the sex scenes were written with greater interest than maybe the normal reader because writing sensual romance is my specialty as a published author. It just seemed to me as though she had a formula with the sex scenes which varied some with each of the 3 couples in the 3 different novels but was basically the same overall.
Another thing that sort of bugged me is the way the couples called each other by their last names instead of their first names most of the time. I really don't hear many people in real life doing this.
A bolond horror-fanatikus! Sebastian úriember, akit a pimasz, makacs Mel folyton kihoz a sodrából. Szeretem és ajánlom a könyvet! Imádnivaló, szeretetre méltó, roppant aranyos történet. Sajnos akármilyen nyálasan hangzik, a sztori tényleg annyira kislányosan, kölyökkutyásan, önfeláldozóan, első szerelmesen bájos, hogy az rettenet! Miért is szeretem mégis?! 5 csillag!
Easy read box set that is showing its age a bit. Just expected a bit more magic than what we get. 1 - CAPTIVATED Interesting easy read. Liked how it all played out. Nash was a typical idiot male. And though I hate secret pregnancy tropes where the man is not told, I understood why Morgana didn’t tell Nash after the silly and nasty things he said. And to give Nash his due, he did accept all the blame he deserved. I hope he deals with his toxic, money grubbing relatives. They certainly are not family. 2 - ENTRANCED Just couldn’t like Mel. Her attitude was rude and mean at times. I understood her scepticism but she was just too big headed. Great they got David back but I found it ridiculous the FBI waited till morning after a positive ID of David. Going after the top dog child snatchers after that part was finished was fun. But again Mel just has to be a Lone Ranger. Yes it worked out, but it might have gone a totally different way. Sebastian was right to walk away after she broke trust. The funny bit was she thought he was in the wrong. All ends up sweet and lovey dovey. Loved the horses the best. 3 - CHARMED A very sweet and pleasant read. Softer than the first two books but with that pinch of acceptable disbelief. Understandable when Boone learns about Ana’s powers through a very drastic situation. Her own fault for procrastinating as she did. Not knowing exactly how cutting Robert’s words had been, it’s hard to judge if she was overreacting. Loved Jessie, what a cutie. The ending was quite entertaining. All those grandchildren. WOW.
The Donovans are timeless and I am swept back in time every time I reread this omnibus.
Given that the trilogy is over 20 years old, some of the language surrounding the love scenes feels a bit violent and outdated in the #metoo era. I was surprised by the number of times clothes were ripped off or fistfuls of hair were grabbed. Of the number of times the women actually said "I'm not interested" but the men kept after them. Or touched without permission - no matter how romantic.
This is a 3 book collection. Captivated - 3 stars. I wanted to punch Nash more than once! I do like him though. Entranced - 4 stars. Charmed -3 stars. I would've given it 4 except the ending just.... just made me give it 3. So I have to hive the book 3 stars... well 3 1/2 stars. I enjoyed it, even though it sometimes annoyed the crap out of me.
Overall, these stories are a nice way to spend a lazy day but nothing overly memorable. They are some of her older works so they aren't as developed as some of her newer stuff. A nice group of character that you can see she evolved in some of her later works.
This is one of her earlier works, and I picked it up to reread for fun. It was neat to see some of the characters and themes she's explored in later novels fit into the framework of a serial romance novel.
I found this book at a Goodwill store. I really like Nora Roberts books so I grabbed it. I didn't realize Nora Roberts wrote books about witches. These three books were an enjoyable read. Would highly recommend.
Not into Romance novels but was given a ton of books so just decided to read it on a whim. Three stories in one but related. I got into it and enjoyed it. I skip all the sex so I read it even faster!
Captivated - 3/5 - In the Donovan Series, this is my least favorite. This is about Morgana, a Donovan witch who has a talent for magic (think spells as opposed to clairvoyance or healing). She meets up with Nash Kirkland who is writing a screenplay and is researching witches...he's pretty narrowminded when it comes to paranormal stuff, doesn't believe in magic and comes with a lot of preconceived notions about wtiches which piss Morgana off. Morgana is pretty fiery - she also has a bit of arrogance...I love a confident heroine, but Morgana rubs me the wrong way a bit...it's a smug confidence a little. She's not bad, per se, but Morgana wasn't my favorite character. This story has no suspense plot to it - and so it relies completely on the characters, the romance and their angst. And while their is some angst it feels a touch drawn out and forced. There's insta-love, but I can forgive it here since it is used to drive the plot and is part of the source of their angst. I typically like Nora's stories better when there's a suspense plot but can make an exception when the characters are really well-written. I liked Nash, but not as much Morgana... so I leave it at an average 3 star rating.
Entranced - 4/5 - I liked this second book in the Donovan series better than the first. Probably because I like Sebastian. Also, I think, because this story contains a suspense plot...although maybe I wouldn't call it suspense. It's more of a subplot where the H/h work together to find a kidnapped little boy using Sebastian's particular talent - clairvoyance. He's also something of a mind-reader. Mel is, of course, a cynic and has to be convinced...she's also the one who resists the relationship. They stumble along together figuring each other out, falling in love and all that great stuff. It's a pretty good book and Sebastian is pretty much the reason it's 4 stars. If there is one thing that Nora Roberts excels at, it's creating an interesting Hero...her heroines not so much, but Mel isn't too bad here. Just overly stubborn. And the sex here is a bit steamier than I'm used to seeing from Nora, but not graphic.
Charmed - 4/5 - Following a similar pattern to the first two, Anastasia Donovan is a witch, this time with healing/empathic powers and Boone Sawyer doesn't believe in witches, which is at the crux of their angst. They spend the first half of the book falling in love - Anastasia is a virgin, Boone is a widower with a young daughter who ironically writes fairy stories (and still doesn't believe in magic). Then he gets a demonstration of Anastasia's power and suddenly there is angst. And, as in the previous books, the extended family comes for a visit as well. This one is okay - I liked the characters in this one (although Sebastian was the best character of the three). I'm thankful that Nora doesn't really spend any time in Jessie's head (she's the little girl) since I don't like how she does kids. So this keeps it rated high. There's no suspense or subplot, but the angst and romance here hold it strong.

Captivated: Nash Kirkland, a loner in life, contacts Morgana Donovan, a self-proclaimed witch, to do some research for his latest screen play. Morgana agrees to work with him, but finds it hard to work with his cynicism. No matter what she does, he looks for the trick behind it. Insulted, her anger gets the better of her, over and over again, until they finally come to terms. Her cousins, Ana and Sebastian, tease her unmercifully as she tries to deal with the unbeliever and with falling in love with someone who doesn't believe in her powers nor in love and marriage. Entranced: Sebastian meets Mel Sutherland, a private eye who is searching for her friend Rose's kidnapped little boy, when Rose begs him to use his psychic powers to find him. Together they track the kidnappers. Mel thinks she's having an affair. Sebastian has fallen in love and is thinking of marriage. Somehow Mel has to blend her practical approach to life with Sebastian's psychic fits and starts to make a possible future work. Charmed: Ana, empath and healer, meets her neighbor, a writer of children's fairy stories. She refuses to tell him that she is a witch and lets their relationship evolve as it will. When he asks her to marry him, she has to face facts and tell him the truth. In the end she demonstrates the truth instead, leaving Boone wondering if he can trust her. I loved all the scenes with Boone's daughter Jessie and her dog Daisy.
The witch aspects of all three novels made me a little twitchy but in the end, it is the story that counts and Ms. Roberts weaves a skillful threesome here.
I wouldn't say I didn't like these stories. They were ok. The stories were pretty predictable. The female characters to me, were well defined and easy to identify with. I especially liked Anastasia, and her story. But the male characters were not, with barely one slight physical description in each story. I also didn't find any of the men in these stories to be truly masculine.
I was also a little distracted by the number of grammatical errors in the books. I found many run on sentences, and sentences with several modifying clauses, and no subject! Very distracting to me. (and no, I'm not an English teacher or anything). The first book even misspelled Romania (Rumania) - twice! Very careless and sloppy editing. And very distracting to me.
I also thought it was ironic that the first story centered around a witch trying to convince a screenwriter to let go of his preconceived ideas of what a witch is, and then these stories proceeded to define these witches using every single stereotypical 'witch' trait imaginable.
I will say that these were charming little stories, and I did find myself caught up in them from time to time, and even teared up in all the right places. I'm a sucker for a happy ending, and these all warmed my heart.
These books were my second attempt at reading Nora Roberts. I may give her another try, but probably not anything paranormal. There are way too many very good paranormal writers out there that do the genre much more justice.

Ana is helping with the labor of Morgana, she is having twins. Boone asks Ana to Marry him. They got married and had a son together.
Warning this book has a lot of Sexual Scenes if explicit scenes upset you do not read this book.
Firstly, I read this book in the published trilogy. I am a general fan of Nora Roberts; every now and again she rights a bland and boring romance (guy meets girl, angst, guy gets girl) but mostly her books are enthralling reads with riveting plots and interesting lead characters.
Books 1 and 2 were VERY good and I couldn't drag myself away from finishing the story (admittedly I didn't have any other demands on my time). Book 3 was a let down and not of the same standard but it was still good to finish of the tale of the three cousins.
I started the trilogy at 8 pm, expecting an hour or so of reading before bed but finished the entire trilogy at 3 am. I really couldn't break away from the entire Donovan family.
