During the fourth century BC a new power is rising up in Northern Greece under the leadership of Philip II of Macedonia. The separate Greek States prepare to defend their independence led by Athens and Thebes. Meanwhile, an isolated Sparta struggles to regain its former glory. The Shield Brethren, a small elite force of hoplites, joins the alliance against Philip guided by the most unlikely person, a young woman who will become the First Binder.
I was so into this story, I didn't notice it was near the end and bam! It was over, leaving me dying for more!!! It's a complete tale, don't get me wrong, but it has the feel of an epic adventure. Please continue the First Binder's tale asap!!! I need more!!!
I was looking for an origin story of women or other secret watchers/rebels as they train in tracking and defense while surreptitiously developing their nearly invisible code. It could be forthcoming. Writing style is stiff as are characters.
Richard Stiller has created a compelling and intriguing character in Thea, the original binder. Daughter of ancient Sparta, she is destined to journey beyond her home and family to find her place among warriors and adventurers. I enjoyed the character development and back-story and look forward to reading more of Richard's tale of the First Binders. If you are immersed in Mongoliad lore, you must read First Binder.
