Protagonista è una ragazzina lussuriosa e divoratrice di uomini. Tra le sabbie della California viene trovato il cadavere nudo di una donna giovane e bellissima. Parte l'indagine, condotta da un investigatore scalcagnato e geniale e prosegue, intrecciata con la lettura del diario che la bellissima uccisa teneva di tutti i suoi amori fin da quando, poco più che bambina, aveva fatto impazzire di passione un celebre cantante d'opera.
