This story has a very interesting premise - aliens came to earth, destroyed everything, took humans as slaves, and then erased the minds of those left so human civilization basically has to start over from scratch. Except this time, they forgot to erase the mind of one group of humans so unlike the rest who are now living like cavemen, these humans already have knowledge that took millennia to obtain.

In the beginning of the story, there was more telling than showing so it took me a little while to get into it. I can understand that - there was a lot going on in such a short story so it made sense. But once the main character, John, met Feather, that's when things really picked up for me, and I felt more immersed in the story.

At first, I thought John's wife was too perfect, but then I began to see that her perfection was only present in certain aspects of life. I enjoyed watching John as he essentially embarked on a new life with those who were believed to be less than.

John then did something I am morally opposed to, but it really worked for this story. Nothing was really black and white here, and it definitely added to the intrigue. By the end, I was very satisfied with how things turned out. This was a well-written story that was worth reading and one I would recommend to others.

This is a short story which is a great flashback to older science fiction in how it was written.

Very enjoyable short read- characters are believable and the story was good.
