A small town, dark romantic comedy where the masked assassin is out for blood, until she falls for the one man she's not supposed to want.

Harlowe Monroe is very good at killing people. She’s also very good at not feeling bad about it. So, when a manila envelope arrives on her doorstep containing her next target, defense attorney Asher Moore, she expects another easy assignment.

Her research leads to a sealed juvenile record from when Asher was sixteen. All she has to do now is uncover the truth, connect the dots, and slash his throat.

The only problem? When she arrives in the small beach town of Coralview, Asher is not the defense attorney, nepo baby she originally pegged him for. He is disarmingly kind, infuriatingly observant, and annoyingly soft-hearted. The kind of man who is impossible to hate, and therefore impossible to kill.

The more she unravels the tangled web of lies tied to Morgan, Moore and Murray Law Firm and the father Asher can’t seem to escape, the more she sees the cracks in his perfect world: the cases the firm twists to win, the truths they smother, and the guilt that Asher tries, but fails, to outrun.

Harlowe comes to Coralview to take his life, but now, she’s unsure if she should end it or save it.

Falling for your mark is bad enough, but finding out he might be innocent is SO. MUCH. WORSE.

Unmask Me is the 1st book in the Unmasked Duet by K.G. Willow.

Oh, that dedication…. that dedication hooked me on this book before I even started reading this book.

“For anyone who’s ever wanted to put an evil ex’s name into a book, only to kill their character.
Don’t worry, I did it for us.”

Now, I have to say that “Unmask Me” took my complete surprise in all the best possible ways. I started this book expecting it to be a dark romance with a little bit of humor tossed it, but instead I got a story that had me completely engrossed from the very beginning. And Harlowe and Asher, they totally stole my heart.

Harlowe is this FMC who I instantly fell in love with. I loved her deadly, sarcastic, emotionally detached, and at the same time she was still entirely relatable. I really enjoyed watching her slowly unravel all the while she was still trying to keep herself from falling for the very man, she was hired to kill and that was just everything to me. There was this unreal tension between Harlowe and Asher that you could have cut with a spoon. And the slow-burn, it was absolutely delicious and it made every moment between the two hit that much harder.

Then there’s Asher. This man is next to impossible not to love. He’s soft in all the perfect places without losing that protective energy and that makes a book boyfriend so unforgettable. I loved the way he challenged Harlowe, often times without even realizing he was doing it, and that had me laughing out loud the whole time. The chemistry between Asher and Harlowe is out of this world and their banter kept me laughing more then I ever expected.

One of the things that I really enjoyed was the way K.G. managed to keep the dark themes balanced with all the humor and heart. I have to admit that there were moments that I was absolutely grinning at Harlowe and Asher’s interactions and the next I was caught up in and enthralled in the mystery and corruption that surrounded Asher’s law firm and even Asher’s very family. And then there was Coral View itself, it had such a fun small-town vibe while it still managed to maintain it’s dangerous feeling underneath it all.

“Unmask Me” gave me everything I love – obsession, tension, emotional damage, and characters that I never wanted to leave.

If you are the type of reader who loves morally gray women, forbidden romance, forced proximity, a FMC masked assassin, and this slow-burn that’s going to ensure your patience is tested in all the best ways possible, then you need to make sure this book is on your TBR ASAP.

My favorite quotes from this book are:

“I never feel more powerful than when someone’s existence is hanging by a thread in my hands. But I never forget what comes after.

Death doesn’t just end with a body. It ripples into the lives of everyone that person has ever touched. Even monsters have someone who thinks fondly of them. Someone who will miss them even if they don’t deserve to be missed.”

Unmask Me by completely surprised me in the best way possible. I went into this expecting a dark romance with some humor thrown in, but what I got was a story that had me obsessed from the very first chapter. Harlowe and Asher absolutely stole my heart.

Harlowe is the kind of FMC I instantly fell in love with. She is deadly, sarcastic, emotionally detached, and somehow still completely relatable. Watching her slowly unravel while trying not to fall for the one man she was literally hired to kill was everything. The tension between her and Asher was unreal. The slow burn was SLOW, but honestly it made every single moment between them hit so much harder.

And Asher? That man was impossible not to love. He was soft in all the right ways without losing that protective energy that makes a book boyfriend unforgettable. The way he challenged Harlowe without even realizing it had me kicking my feet the entire time. Their chemistry was addictive and the banter had me laughing out loud more than once.

What I loved most was how this book balanced dark themes with humor and heart. One minute I was grinning at their interactions and the next I was completely sucked into the mystery and corruption surrounding the law firm and Asher’s family. Coral view had such a fun small town vibe while still feeling dangerous underneath it all.

This book gave me obsession, tension, emotional damage, and characters I genuinely did not want to leave behind. If you love morally gray women, forbidden romance, forced proximity, masked assassin vibes, and a slow burn that will test your patience in the best way possible, you need this book on your TBR immediately.

Easy 5 stars from me and I already need more from K.G. Willow because I am officially hooked.

Arc Review✨️

I loved every second of this book! It was fun, with the perfect little date scenes, our main characters were so well written and I love how sweet our mmc (Asher) is!

There is a case that our fmc (Harlowe) is trying to figure out so she doesn't have to take out the person she was assigned to but it proves a lot harder than expected. While Harlowe is forced to take more time than she'd like to figure out Asher; he is just completely captivated by her and trying to figure out how he could possibly make her his.

Asher is a sweet, small town Lawyer with a big reputation due to his father who is also his boss. While his father wants more and to keep building that rep for both of them, Asher desires something a bit different. More.. gentle, softer, sweeter, more honest.

The spark between these two and the underlying question of what really happened that night that involved Asher creates such a captivating story that keeps you coming back for more constantly. The side characters that we meet are also fascinating and I really hope to get more about Harlowe's sister Maren in the next installment of this duet! As well as their bestie Ronnie who is very tech savvy will hopefully come into play way more in book 2. There is a cliffhanger that will leave you speechless and in desperate need for more. I sat and stared at the last page for 5 minutes before accepting that that was the end😂

All this to say, I was completely in love with this book from page one and I cant wait for the next one!!

Unmasked Duet: Asher and Harlowe

The dedication… well, it sold me before I even started…

“For anyone who’s ever wanted to put an evil ex’s name into a book, only to kill their character.
Don’t worry, I did it for us.”

A dark rom-com with heavy themes… please make sure you check the triggers before reading, including:
* Child SA
* Murder/death/suicide
* SA/PA/Coercion
* Weapons/violence/blood

I’m so glad I responded to K.G. Willow’s callout for advance readers, because this was well worth the read.

The characters were so good.
Asher was a dream. A golden retriever. Too good to be true.
Harlowe was so unapologetically dark and strong. A killer for hire, she’s principled enough to only want to target those who deserve it. Yet…she’s conflicted, and Asher’s a puzzle she needs to solve.

I loved them together, and I absolutely loved the fact that she was the dark character - so refreshing. The spice was there, but it was secondary, but oh my… what was there… phew…
It wasn’t all comedy though.. the history that Asher is dealing with, the way that Harlowe is trying to work out why someone wants him dead.
I had a guess… and I spent about half the book eagerly waiting to see if I was right!

A solid debut novel… and a cliffhanger to boot… Bring on book 2!

She's a pink-loving hitwoman with scruples and he's the surfer boy defense attorney she's been hired to kill. The premise alone had me squealing with delight, and the book did not disappoint! I mean, what's a girl to do when she falls for her mark?

Harlowe has been sent to a small, coastal town in sunny California to take out Asher. As she does with all her jobs, she tries to pinpoint why he deserves death prior to making her move. The more she gets to know him, the more she realizes that there must be a mistake - there's no way the kind, handsome lawyer who helps little old ladies cross the street deserves to meet his maker at the end of her knife, right? While getting to know him better, she vows to figure out how he ended up in her cross hairs in the first place. Asher is surrounded by assholes and creeps - surely at least one of them is wrapped up in this mystery...

This book features an adorable romance between a fierce FMC and an obsessed cinnamon roll MMC, but the intriguing plot and quip-filled writing style is what will really keep you from putting it down.

This novel is about Harlowe. Harlowe is a very independent, mask wearing, assasin. Harlowe takes her job very seriously. However, Harlowe will only follow through on her job if her target is deserving of being exterminated. I liked the fact that the roles were reversed in this book. Usually the men are the masked villain/assasin and the women are the good innocent ones. This book flipped the script. The book was always interesting and the story flowing.

Harlowe finds herself in a quandry. Harlowe doesn't know what her current target, Asher, did to deserve being on her hit list. Harlowe can't find out much information about Asher either. There's a lot of mystery surrounding Asher. Harlowe isn't the type that quits.

I think Harlowe has all these rules to feel like she always has control. I think Harlowe makes Asher hate the current version of himself even more. Despite what Harlowe does for a living, Harlowe isn't a villain. Asher isn't so different from Harlowe, because he wears a mask too. At some point, Harlowe decides her mission has changed.

I received an ARC from Twisted Chaos PR. My opinions and views are my own.

This was such a fun read! I loved every second of it!
The FMC Harlowe was a badass assassin(one of my favourite type of FMC). She was funny, disciplined and strong.
All her carefully crafted mask fall apart the minute she has been assigned to take care of (aka unalive). She got close to him and realise there is something more important than finishing a job.
The MMC Asher was a dream! Perfect golden retriever with a secret what shackled him to his father and wanted nothing more than to get free of that.
The way how their relationship got stronger and stronger was so much fun to see.
It was an easy and fun read and can’t wait to read book2!

I love this type of genre in general, but for once we have a Hit Woman FMC and a lawyer MC who radiates golden retriever vibes. Both have tragedies in their past that has forced them into the lives and carriers they are in now. Plus with this being a duology we get a hint of the next couple to come along.

The fact that both Asher and Harlowe can find the best in each other despite the secrets they carry and help right the wrongs that had forced Asher to stay under his fathers thumb for more than a decade gives us the closure that he needs and justice for the family that lost its wife and mother to a stupid decision that took place in Asher's youth (Hint: a big reason why Harlowe is so hesitant to complete the job as is and wants to find the truth for once.)

There are so funny and heart felt moments throughout the book, but it does remind us of the evil in the world that happens every day and how some people use power to get away with horrible crimes.

I can't wait for book 2 to see how this epic series ends.

Loved. Loved. Loved. Loved the book!

This was a while different experience for me. There are a very few dark rom-coms I've came across and loved every bit of it.
I won't write a long arse review and bore you, but this book is definitely my new favourite summer read.

Asher and Lowe have my heart.
The character development for Lowe is everything!
The way her character thinks, works... The writer did an amazing job. Even though some parts were predictable for me, it still was astonishing.

And Asher 😩
He's such a lover boy. I knew I loved him since the beginning for a reason, even before Lowe fell for him 🤭
He's understanding and patient. What else do you want in your book boyfriend? He's literally the personification of perfection 💝

I got to an ARC of this book and to be said, when I read the blurb—this was something new. I had to read it!
My only regret is that it wasn't longer. I wanted it to be long, so long 😩

The story arc was something entirely different than the novels in this genre I've read so far.

This book is chaotic, darkly funny, emotionally messy, and absolutely PACKED with “she was hired to kill him but now she’s obsessed” energy 👀🖤🔪

A masked assassin FMC?
A soft-hearted defense attorney target?
Forced proximity, stalking, and a slow burn that HURTS??

Yeah… I was hooked IMMEDIATELY.

Harlowe completely stole the show for me 👀🔥

Because this woman is fully comfortable killing people without guilt… until Asher Moore completely ruins her emotional detachment by being kind, observant, and impossible to hate 😂🖤

And honestly??
Their dynamic was SO addictive.

She’s trying to investigate him, stalk him, and potentially kill him…

Meanwhile he keeps being soft and emotionally perceptive enough to completely dismantle all her walls.

The dark romantic comedy vibes also work SO well because the story constantly balances danger, attraction, emotional tension, and genuinely funny moments without losing the darker edge underneath everything.

And WOW 👀🔥
The slow burn absolutely DELIVERED.

Because the more Harlowe uncovers about Asher and his family, the messier everything becomes emotionally AND morally.

✨ If you love:
• assassin FMCs
• dark romantic comedy
• “falling for the target” romance
• forced proximity + stalking
• emotionally messy slow burns

This one is addictive, chaotic, funny, and packed with forbidden tension 🖤🔪🔥

Looking for a baddie FMC with a softer side and an MMC that gets completely ensnared by this mystery girl? This is the book for you. The first book in The Unmasked Duet we meet Lowe and Asher. Lowe is supposed to unalive Asher, but she can't... see she's not sure he's the right target and has to spend more time figuring out the truth all while falling for him.

Even while Lowe was doing her recon, she recognized something in Asher that she was drawn to. He is such a good man; but working for his dad as a defense attorney, winning cases for people he can't stand, is starting to take it's toll on Asher. Lowe has had a rough life and relies on her work and her sister to help keep her level. When Asher spots this beauty at the bar in head to toe pink, he's intrigued. But his best friend Brady is about to spoil everything. There was something about Brady that just irked me right from the start, and boy was I right!

An HEA, unconventional love story with some dark themes, rom-com vibes and a cliffhanger ending, this was a really good read! I can't wait to read the next book!

This is the first book of The Unmasked Duet. It does end in a bit of a cliffhanger in a way, but the couple gets their HEA and the next book is about Maren, Harlowe's sister.

To start, I loved the dedication lol
“For anyone who’s ever wanted to put an evil ex’s name into a book, only to kill their character.
Don’t worry, I did it for us.”

Asher was such a sweetie, I loved it! It was obvious nearly from the start that Lowe was sent after someone that was too good to deserve her services. Their connection was instant even if Harlowe did orchestrate them meeting. The way they protected each other was so sweet. I was happy that Asher was able to get closure about everything that had happened.

I wouldn't necessarily call this a dark romantic comedy though. It felt more like a lite dark romance. There were a couple of funny moments but not enough that I would call it comedy.

Thank you Twisted Chaos PR for the ARC! I am excited for Maren's story!

This story had me hooked from the very start. A serial unaliver who takes out the bad guys—not for fun, but with purpose? I was immediately invested.

Harlowe is a strong, independent bada$$ FMC who finds herself falling for her mark, Asher, after learning the truth behind the contract hit placed on him. The internal struggles both of them were dealing with were so well written, and I found myself completely invested in their journey.

I absolutely loved this story. The plot twists just kept coming, and every time I thought I had things figured out, another surprise was waiting around the corner. It kept me on my toes the entire time and made it impossible to put down.

The chemistry, the suspense, the emotional depth—everything came together perfectly. If you're looking for a dark, twist-filled romance with characters you can't help but root for, this is one to pick up.

I can't wait for Book 2!

A masked assassin hired to kill her target... only to fall for him instead? Sign me up. 😍

Unmask Me was such a fun blend of dark romance, mystery, and humor. Harlowe is sent to eliminate defense attorney Asher Moore, but the more she learns about him, the harder it becomes to pull the trigger. Their chemistry was undeniable, and the slow burn definitely lives up to its reputation.

🖤 Dark romantic comedy
🔪 Assassin FMC
⚖️ Defense attorney MMC
🏖️ Small beach town
👀 Forced proximity
🚫 Forbidden romance
🔥 Instant attraction + slow burn
🕵️ Mystery and secrets

I loved the mix of suspense, romance, and witty moments throughout the story. If you enjoy morally gray characters and "falling for the target" romances, this one is worth checking out!

I was an ARC reader for this!

From the dedication page to the last page, I was kicking my feet like a school girl lol
Asher and Harlowe bring you in and make you go through it all with them! The ups, the downs, the banter, and the dark romance all thrown in together is just amazing! I don’t know what I was expecting having dark romance and rom com thrown together, but I must say it works so dang well, its not even funny hehe 😉

The last page made me flip back and go I’m, excuse me!? That’s it!! Saying I need more is an understatement of a lifetime!

I saw this book was a dark romcom and was completely intrigued!! Asher is a golden retriever lawyer who has found himself on a hired killer’s list. That killer? Her name is Harlowe and she has a funny feeling about being hired to kill this guy. She starts digging into who hired her and the reason they want Asher dead. While she does this, she has to keep Asher safe and the two start to develop feelings for each other. I am always excited when a book has great banter and this one does. The two characters really balance each other and it was so nice to read!

I cannot wait for book 2!!

Debut novel that blew me away! KG amazing job on creating a story that grabs your attention from page one. Harlowe is a strong FMC that takes out the scum. Her next mark Asher should be an in and out job. Yet something’s not adding up! This is funny, charming and ohhhh so steamy. Absolutely loved the plot and character build. The spice was around 🌶️ 🌶️🌶️ and wasn’t the main attraction in the book. Again this is the authors debut and I was highly impressed with the final outcome. Highly recommend and be on the lookout for book2.

The banter between the main characters is so good.
When Lowe inserted herself into Asher's life, the cheesy opening line was something to giggle about.

The story between Asher and Lowe is unconventional but it works for them.
They never give op on each other and keep fighting to get back to each other after everything went sideways.

Asher accepts Lowe as she is before he knew the truth but still went back to her even though he knew everything.
Loving someone no matter what is inspiring to say the least.

This one ended up being a DNF for me, and not because it was bad.

It just never fully clicked for me. I wasn’t connecting the way I wanted to, and I found myself struggling to stay engaged.

Lately, I’ve been trying to be more intentional with my reading and stick to books that truly pull me in and spark that can’t-stop-reading feeling. As much as I wanted this one to be that book, it just wasn’t the right fit for me at this time.

I’d still encourage giving it a try, it might hit completely different for you.

Harlowe and Asher are just beautiful to read. They build a connection that is undeniable, even given the circumstances. I loved how they found what they had in common and always bought the best out in each other. They are a really sweet couple. But don't let that fool you- their story has drama, action, wel ballanced spice and dark elements, making it a perfect package deal for readers of all types. I really hope I get to read book 2.

Wow...what a book!!! I absolutely love rom-com's. But with this one I absolutely loved the dark twist to it! It was absolutely captivating! From page 1 I was hooked. You have Lowe who is a contract killer and Ash who is a lawyer at his dad's firm. Turns out he is her next hit and she feels he's the wrong target. She's determined to figure him out. Their story is amazing. It was the perfect mix of forbidden romance, forced proximity and banter. I don't want to give to much away...but I say this is a must read for anyone who loves a good dark rom-com! I can't wait for the next book.

Obsessed, give me 10 more. Easy 5 stars for this.

I love this genre BUT I love that in this book we have a hit woman FMC and a lawyer MMC who has the sweetest soul. Oh did I mention that the FMC is sarcastic and deadly, which is everything.

This book did such a beautiful job blending the dark with lighthearted and sweet moments. I would say pick this up if you enjoyed Lights Out for sure :)

I loved Harlowe, she was strong and independent. Who wouldn't love a badass contract hitman? Her target, Asher, doesn't seem like the type that would have a hit on them. She decides to look into him more and finds herself drawn to him. She gets closer to him to try and figure out his back story. There is a mystery he's hiding and she wants to get to the bottom of it.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ // 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Unmask Me by K.G. Willow was an enjoyable read. There was a lot to it, surprisingly. I enjoyed that Harlowe was patient enough to see if her mark was innocent. I loved how her and Asher fell for each other. How they communicated. I knew Asher's friend was going to be an issue, and it's a shame that he was cut the way he was, because I would have loved to see Asher handle him with the way he treated his assistant.

The story was great. I really can't wait for the second installment. It was definitely a slow burn, and the spicy scenes were pretty mild, but that tracks for the slow burn and story build up.
