🎵 She perfected her life. She perfected her marriage. She just forgot to include herself.
After twenty years of striving to be the perfect wife in a world where she never quite belonged, Maggie Donovan’s carefully curated life fractures in a hospital hallway — and her escape to the quiet Gulf Coast town of Harmony Bay becomes the first real choice she’s ever made for herself.
For decades, Maggie believed perfection was the price of belonging. A polished marriage. A controlled image. A daughter raised to follow the same rigid path.
But inside a small-town music shop tucked between palm trees and ocean breeze, something long buried begins to stir.
Nora Hale, the shop’s warm and intuitive owner, offers presence without pressure. Andrew Hale — steady, kind, and quietly compelling — offers friendship without conditions.
For the first time in years, Maggie isn’t being measured.
As she reconnects with music—and the parts of herself she abandoned to survive—she’s forced to confront the truth about the life she built with a man who valued optics over intimacy—and decide whether it’s finally time to choose happiness over fear.
Because starting over isn’t just about leaving. It’s about remembering who you were before the world told you who to be.

Reader needs to be aware this is a cliffhanger novella. It is book two in Kel Summers' The Music Shop serial series. You need to read book one before starting on book two. There are to be six novellas in the series. And each book, prior to the last one, will have a cliffhanger. And you will need to read each book in order.
Book two picks up right where book one left off. In book one, Maggie's husband David had a car accident while his mistress was in the car and that is how Maggie found out about his infidelity. Maggie and David have been married twenty-five years, during which Maggie's entire personality and sense of being completely disappeared as she tried to fit into the "old money" lifestyle expected of her. By the end of book one, Maggie had gone through sooooo much introspection, and had concluded she needed to leave David - at least for a while.
Book two picks up with Maggie's daughter, Tiffany, leaving to go back to college, and as soon as Tiffany is gone, Maggie calls her sister Liz and asks to come and stay. Maggie goes into the bedroom, packs a suitcase and tells David she is leaving to visit Liz. David, expecting Maggie to cater to his every whim as she has done all their married life, doesn't believe Maggie will really leave - and yet she does it anyway. This is a monumental step for Maggie. Once Maggie arrives in Florida she first spends her days marveling that she has nothing to prove, no one to cater to, no need to be and look and act perfect. And she reflects. She eventually starts taking walks - to the beach, through the town - and starting to relax. While walking through town, she is drawn to The Music Shop when she hears the owner, Nora, playing piano. Maggie had put her great love for music aside as David thought it wasn't particularly relevant to her life as his wife. Maggie finds a sense of belonging at The Music Shop, becomes close with Nora, and eventually offers to help out part time so Nora can get more needed rest. Then one day, when Maggie returns home to her cottage at Liz's, she has an unexpected visitor. And the book ends at that point, without telling the reader who is visiting. The book(s) is(are) very well written. There is just so much to relate to in Maggie's soul-searching and longings. You will become deeply emotionally engaged and feel remarkable empathy for Maggie. I just wish the story was all in one book. I truly abhor cliffhangers. I would never have started reading this had I known each novella was a cliffhanger. However I made a committment and so I will keep reading and rating the series. I rate the writing style and story line 5+. It really is that well done. The fact that it's not clearly marketed as a serial with cliffhangers is a 0. I already did a "cliffhanger discount" on my book one rating, and I will not penalize the ratings for the remaining cliffhanger books as I did in book one. Unfortunately I cannot bring myself to give a cliffhanger an overall 5 rating. So it will have to be a 4.

She came to Harmony Bay to take a break from her life.
She never expected to find a place that might become home.
After years of living a carefully controlled life, Maggie Donovan is slowly learning what freedom feels like. Helping at Harmony Bay's small-town music shop has given her something she hasn’t had in a long time—purpose, routine, and a quiet sense of belonging.
But rebuilding a life isn’t as simple as walking away from the old one.
Back in Orchard Hills, Maggie’s estranged husband is growing impatient, and the daughter she loves is caught between the life Maggie left behind and the woman she’s becoming. Every unanswered call and every message she ignores tightens the tension she knows she’ll eventually have to face.
Meanwhile, Harmony Bay is beginning to work its quiet magic.
Between long afternoons at the shop, the gentle wisdom of Nora Hale, the shop's owner, and unexpected conversations with Nora’s steady, thoughtful son Andrew, Maggie finds herself rediscovering something she thought she had lost forever—music, friendship, and the possibility of connection.
But the past has a way of following you, even to the most peaceful places.
And Maggie is about to learn that building a new life means more than simply walking away from the old one.
It means deciding who she’s brave enough to become.
This contemporary sweet, small-town women's fiction slow-burning second chance later-in-life romance is page-turning with exceptional world-building in the Gulf town of Harmony Bay, a small town in a charming coastal community, where the sunrises and sunsets are magnificent and majestically painted across the sky in vibran hues, and characters who are a female heroine who is divorced and a male hero who offers friendship without conditions, who are both captivating, and realistic. Their journey is enthralling with the music shop, an inspired romance where later-in-life self-discovery, second chances, finding love in a charming coastal community, starting over, sisters, chaos/drama, heartfelt emotions/emotional depth, action, adventure, and more. I recommend reading this book by an extraordinary author who knows how to captivate her readers' hearts and attention with the music shop and contemporary sweet, small-town women's fiction slow-burning second chance later-in-life romance that is sure to transport readers into a world that is wildly emotional, intriguing, and unforgettable.

This second book continues Maggie’s journey as she begins to step away from the life she’s been living for decades. What I really enjoyed here was watching her slowly rediscover herself in Harmony Bay. The quiet setting, her sister’s support, and the unexpected comfort she finds in the local music shop all felt like pieces of therapy woven into the story. It was heartwarming to see her start to breathe again and make choices for herself rather than always bending to someone else’s expectations.
The writing captures Maggie’s inner conflict in a way that feels very real. I wanted her to keep moving forward and not lose sight of the strength she was beginning to reclaim.
Yes, the book ends on another cliffhanger, which I personally don’t love, but I can’t deny that it left me curious to see what happens next. Kel Summers has a way of making you care about the characters enough that you want to follow them, even if you know you’ll have to wait for the next installment to get the full picture.
Despite the cliffhanger, I found it engaging and uplifting, and I’ll be picking up the next book to see where Maggie’s journey leads.
This is a clean book. It is part of a series of 6 books and ends with a cliffhanger. To get all of the story, you will need to read all 6 books. This is the second book of the series.
Maggie is starting to find herself in Harmony Bay. She is living in her sister’s little back house. She is learning to breathe, to answer to herself and not others. She find peace in the local music shop. When she realizes the owner is struggling health-wise, she offers her help three days a week so she can rest and hopefully get better. She takes Maggie up on the offer and Maggie is really enjoying it. The book ends with someone waiting for her at her sister’s house. We don’t find out who yet, but I can guess.
I read through this so quickly! I cannot wait to see what happens next. I like how Maggie is finding herself again and how she used to be. After 25 years of being conditioned to be someone else, it does take time. So good!
I received an ARC from the author and am leaving an honest review.
This is the second installment of The Music Shop. This is a pretty quick read and picks up right where the first installment left off. It is important to read this series in its specific order.
In this segment, Maggie decides she needs some space/time and travels to FL to visit her sister. This segment is really a big self reflection for Maggie as, for the first time in a long time, she can decide how she is going to spend her time and focus on what she would like to do. As the weeks pass, she starts to find herself again and befriends Nora, the music shop owner.
The end of this installment is a cliffhanger and while I believe I know what is going to happen, my mind can think of several alternatives. Thankfully, we don't have to wait too long for the next installment!
I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book for free, and this is my honest review.
Maggie decides to take some time away from her husband, David, after learning about his affair following his car accident. She decides to go stay with her sister, Liz, in Florida. With each passing day, Maggie seems to find her old self and realized what she was missing in her life. She befriends The Music Shoppe owner, Nora. While helping her out, Maggie blossoms and starts to find happiness again.
I really enjoyed this second book in the series as Harmony Bay truly seems to be like therapy for Maggie and it is heartwarming to watch as she breaks from her polished life David has created for her to who she truly is in her heart.
Is a sweet small town, second chance later in life romance. Some of the lines I really like --- "music doesn't leave you. You can walk away from it, ignore it, bury it—but it doesn't leave." --- "A lifetime ago can still leave marks." --- "Music should feel like coming home. Not like an exam." ---- Is Maggie going to continue to accept things the way they are? Is Maggie going to let David to continue to control her life? Is Maggie going to open up to Tiffany before it's too late? What startled Maggie? These and other questions will be answered in books 3, 4, 5 or 6. I'm loving Maggie's story and I'm sure you will too. I've loved everyone of her books that I've read and I can't wait to read Book 3.
I was more prepared for the serialization this time. The narrative does not stand alone or tell a full story. After discovering the affair in part one, Maggie’s journey continues. She snubs David and finds space to think about what she wants rather than her accustomed trait of doing what needs done. The pace is plodding and the tone introspective. There is grounded realism in sorting through pain and trauma but the repetitive phrases and minimalist plot are not super engaging. Maggie Donovan sees her daughter Tiffany into an Uber before packing a small suitcase and telling her injured husband David that she will be staying with her sister Liz for a few days. Then she drives to Florida and admits her husband’s affair to her sibling. As the days pass, Maggie finds herself exploring the town and is drawn to a small music shop ran by eighty-year-old Nora. Slowly she learns to breath and make choices for herself.

Maggie’s conflicting emotion and decision making is pushing her further and further away from her husband David. Finding out about the other woman in his life has left Maggie completely devastated and betrayed in more ways than one. She decides to leave her very controlling husband for an undetermined timeframe once he comes home from the hospital and seeks refuge at her sisters in Florida. Maggie is determined in redefining herself and becoming once again the woman she was meant to be. I was emotionally overwhelmed and captivated reading this book. It ends with a cliffhanger and I’m looking forward to book 3.
This is Book 2 in the series and for maximum enjoyment read the books in series order.
'And Maggie is about to learn that building a new life means more than simply walking away from the old one. It means deciding who she’s brave enough to become.'
The characters were very appealing and likeable and absolutely perfect together. Plot was intriguing and well paced. World building was solidly drawn and impressive. All in all a great addition to the series. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

ARC review Antecdotal thoughts while reading These novellas are meant to be read in order. ✈️ time to get back to your life Tiffany. Maggie, you need to 💩 or get off the pot lady. Do something! Go Maggie, go Maggie, go!!🎵 I want a mini house. Ideas for a future land purchase. Taking time for oneself is important. Nora you are wise and intuitive. David better NOT be there! This book is going a bit slow. I do know from reading a past book series of the author's, the story will all come together in time.
Maggie Donovan leaves her philandering and controlling husband. She goes to visit her sister in Florida and befriends the elderly owner of a music shop and starts helping out, she is beginning to find herself again after many years of putting her needs and desires aside for her husband and daughter. But David shows up in Florida!
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I’m looking forward to reading the remainder of the series and seeing how Maggie (and her daughter) become stronger and more confident women.
"She wasn't managing or anticipating or preparing for the next demand. She was simply paying attention now.*
Maggie, now living in Harmony Bay, is beginning to find herself again and with the help of Nora and the little music shop she owns, Maggie is living in the present and on her own agenda for the first time in 25 years, until something or someone is about to change that...
I have read short books like this that will eventually be strung together as a set for years, but this is the first time in a while I'm impatient for book 3. Highly Recommended 5/5
The Music Shop, Book 2, finds Maggie leaving David in Michigan so she can go visit Liz, her sister, in Harmony Bay to get some space to figure out what her life should be. While there. Maggie meets Nora, an elderly owner of a music shop who has been experiencing episodes of fatigue, and offers to help her at the store. David continues to text her demanding they need to discuss his accident and what she observed in the hospital. The book ends in a cliffhanger. I received a book via the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I really enjoyed the second novella in this series. Maggie is learning who she is when others are not expecting things from her or her husband isn't there to tell her what to do, what to wear or how to act. I love the idea of finding who you are in a music shop. I am exited to continue the series and see what happens next. Kel Summers likes to leave you with a cliffhanger and this one is no different. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book both broke my heart and warmed my soul on the same pages. Maggie is such a relatable character. She’s really coming into her own. She is reminded to slow down and live her life for her. But the past keeps complicating her new found peace. It hurts to watch David still impact her life but so endearing when we get to see her breaking away from that life. And oh the cliffhanger in this one…I have to know what’s happening!
Kel Summers’ The Music Shop, Book 2 is a heartfelt continuation of Maggie’s journey. Her decision to leave her husband and rediscover music is both empowering and tender. Summers beautifully shows how reclaiming passion can heal wounds and inspire new beginnings, making this a hopeful, emotional read. Empowering and emotional.

The story continues as Maggie is finding herself and figuring out what she wants for herself. She packs a small bag and walks out of the life she’s known and heads to her sisters in Florida. Book two is very heartfelt. You feel every emotion that Maggie is feeling. Find Peace Maggie in the quiet beach town..
A beautiful, heartfelt and emotional story as Maggie starts to build a new life after learning of her husband's affair. I love the peace and joy that surrounds her in the music shop as she reflects on her life. I highly recommend this book and author.
I read this book as part of an advance reader team. I am voluntarily writing this review.
I have loved seeing Maggie’s growth as she navigates life away from control and manipulation. The healing is slow and gradual but real. Her self-rediscovery is powerful and offers hope to anyone who has felt that loss. There is still a future wide open for Maggie to discover, and I can’t wait to continue her journey.
A continuation from part 1 where Maggie leaves and goes to stay awhile with her sister Liz. She begins to find her self and purpose in her life. Finding purpose in life is what matters to everyone. I'm looking forward to reading the next one. Received a copy from the author to be ARC reviewer, I expressed my opinions alone.
In part two of this series Maggie gathers courage and walks away from her marriage. She doesn’t explain to her husband, just says she needs space. She goes to her sister in Florida where she spends her days slowly remembering who she used to be. She ends up befriending the owner of the music shop and starts helping out several times a week. Fu. To see Maggie rediscovering her true self.
Seeing Maggie take things one day at a time has been awesome. She’s making a new life for herself and not looking back at her old life whatsoever. Working in the music store with Nora is such a sweet way to move on with life. So far I’m really loving this series. Only a four star though because I wish these were much longer.
I like this story. I loved how Maggie walked away without looking back. Harmony Bay seems like a great place to find yourself again. This is a great story line my only negative is that I would like it to be all one book.
This series is amazing I love everything about this book .how well it’s written makes you think lot about things you needs to pay more attention.highly recommended to everyone.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Such a wonderful story! I love the later in life characters. Maggie is getting some much needed time to decompress and find herself again at her sister's. So many emotions in this well written, easy and heartfelt read. Can't wait to find out what's going to happen next.
Just when Maggie starts to connect with herself and feel like she gained back what she lost, a change happened that made her doubt herself again. Except what she thought she wanted is not what it appears to be. Relationships are tested and she must come to terms with herself again.
This 2nd book in the series read a little more slowly than the 1st, but was still a good read. A nice cliffhanger at the very end of the book. Looking forward to book 3!
Maggie has gotten into a new daily routine. She’s helping Nora at the Music shop & is starting to heal & find her purpose until one day she’s almost home.
I just wish they'd put them all in one volume, instead of so many little chunks. I care about the main character, though I wouldn't do things the way she does.
