This contemporary sweet, small-town women's fiction slow-burning second chance later-in-life romance is page-turning with exceptional world-building in the Gulf town of Harmony Bay, a small town in a charming coastal community, where the sunrises and sunsets are magnificent and majestically painted across the sky in vibran hues, and characters who are a female heroine who is divorced and a male hero who offers friendship without conditions, who are both captivating, and realistic. Their journey is enthralling with the music shop, an inspired romance where later-in-life self-discovery, second chances, finding love in a charming coastal community, starting over, sisters, chaos/drama, heartfelt emotions/emotional depth, action, adventure, and more. I recommend reading this book by an extraordinary author who knows how to captivate her readers' hearts and attention with the music shop and contemporary sweet, small-town women's fiction slow-burning second chance later-in-life romance that is sure to transport readers into a world that is wildly emotional, intriguing, and unforgettable.

Reader needs to be aware this is a cliffhanger novella. It is book four in Kel Summers' The Music Shop serial series. You need to read book one, two and three before starting book four. There are to be six novellas in the series. And each one a cliffhanger. And you will need to read each book in order.

In the prior books, Maggie, after 25 years of catering and deferring to her husband David and making herself small, discovers David's infidelity. After much introspection, Maggie realizes she needs to leave, at least for a short while, and she drives from Michigan to Florida for an open-ended visit to her sister Liz. While there, Maggie has found some sense of purpose helping out at The Music Store in the town where Liz lives.

Book four picks up right where book three left off. Maggie had high hopes for David appearing to change while he was wooing her back in book three. And then he quickly reverted to the old David, telling her she has a plane ticket to return with him on Wednesday and he expects her to be there and put all this behind her. Book four tells of Maggie's reality check and introspection into what she really wants to do and be. As is the case in the prior books, there is just so much to relate to in Maggie's journey. The story continues to be emotionally engaging, with so much empathy for Maggie. And as I've said in my reviews for the previous books, I just wish the story was all in one book as I truly, TRULY dislike cliffhangers. Though the writing is so well done [I'd rate the storytelling more than 5⭐️s if I could] I just cannot bring myself to give a cliffhanger a 5⭐️ rating. So overall a 4⭐️ rating only because the story isn't complete in one book.

The messaging regarding doing what is best for you even if it is hard is good. I just wish Maggie was given more competency. She allegedly performed as the perfect wife for 23 years in high society and picks up things in the music shop easily enough. Meanwhile she doesn’t seem to know how to file paperwork, organize actions, or hire movers in her own life. Real concerns about money and rumors are even more important when dealing with controlling spouses, and yet she never feels any urgency getting pulled along in the wake of others. The narrative is focused on the emotional journey but actions usually change before attitudes. At any rate, while the repeated prose is setting a tone there should have been a bit of streamlining. Describing a character the same way every time might be accurate but reordering the words or focusing on different details feels more enlightening to readers. It’s not a dreadful story, but the sedate pacing highlights the lack of activity..
Maggie apologies to her sister and tells David she will not be returning home with him. She is not ready to forget the humiliation of finding Abigail in her husband’s room at St. Anne’s. Unsure of what that means for the twenty-three years she spent married or how to move forward. Maggie returns to volunteering at the Music Shop in Harmony Bay discovering that Nora seems even weaker than the week before.

This is a clean book. It is part of a series of 6 books and ends with a cliffhanger. To get all of the story, you will need to read all 6 books. This is the fourth book of the series.

Maggie stands up to her husband and tell shim she is not going back and wants a divorce. It definitely shocks him as she has never done anything like this. And her daughter is unsure how to deal with the divorce, even though she I an adult. They’re relationship has changed. She also is helping the music shop. She is worried about the owner, Nora, as she is slowing down. What will happen to the music shop if something happens to Nora? What are Maggie’s next steps? When she gets a call from her daughter asking to come stay, can they rebuild their relationship?

I was so proud of Maggie for finding the strength to stand up to her husband and make the choices she did. Now to figure out how to rebuild her life. I am really enjoying this story. I read it so quickly and can’t wait until the next book. I can’t believe how fast the story goes.

I received an ARC from the author and am leaving an honest review.

⚠️ Spoilers Ahead ⚠️
Maggie finally takes a stand and refuses to go back to her old life with David. I was proud of her for finding the courage to say no and start choosing herself. After years of being controlled and overlooked, seeing her step into her own strength was inspiring.

I loved how the music shop became such a safe place for her. Helping Nora and being surrounded by music gave Maggie a sense of peace she hadn’t felt in years. The possibility of becoming a partner in the shop felt like the start of something new and hopeful.

Her relationship with her daughter added another emotional layer. When her daughter shows up carrying her own struggles, Maggie has to face the past she thought she had left behind. Those moments were raw and real, and I could feel how much Maggie wanted to rebuild that bond.

The writing captured the small‑town charm of Harmony Bay beautifully. The coastal setting, the friendships, and the quiet strength of the community made the story feel warm even while Maggie was dealing with heavy choices.

This is a series of 6 books and each book picks up where the previous one ends. In book 4, Maggie finally sees David and his manipulative behaviour for what it is , an absolute control he wants to have over Maggie’s life at all costs. Maggie is finally in « act mode », still terrified of what she needs to do, she’s decided that she’s not going back and needs to affirm it. For the first time in her life, she stands very tall and confident, looks him in the eyes and tells David NO, that she’s not getting on that plane with him, she no longer wishes to stay in the marriage and tells him to get out of her space in the cottage and locks the door …that was a real pièce de resistance. He was now staring at the real Maggie slowly coming back to life. Still terrified but feels more at peace and liberated, Maggie is now faced with two life changing decisions; staying and becoming a partner of the Music Shop and listening to her daughter’s needs.

3.5 stars rounded up

This is the 4th installment of The Music Shop. The series needs to be read in order as it builds upon itself.

This installment had me cheering for Maggie as she finally starts to see what is truly happening and starts to make some hard decisions.

We also start to get a little more background on Andrew and Nora. I'm looking forward to the final two books in this series as I'm excited to see how Kel Summers is going to wrap up the story. I'm looking forward to see if some relationships will be adjusted and strengthened.

I received an advance copy and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Is a sweet small town, second chance later in life romance.
One of the lines I really like --- it's okay to choose yourself. That you don't have to stay in a situation that's hurting you just because leaving is hard." ---
Is Maggie going to continue to accept things the way they are? Is Maggie going to let David to continue to control her life? Is Maggie going to open up to Tiffany before it's too late? Will accept the patnership with Nora? Why does Tiffany feel like everything is closing in on her? Some will be answered and other questions will be answered in books 5 or 6.
I'm loving Maggie's story and I'm sure you will too. I've loved everyone of her books that I've read and I can't wait to read Book 5.

I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book for free, and this is my honest review.

Book 4 picks right up with Maggie dealing with the demand that she returns home from her husband. However, she has other plans and finds her voice to tell him she is not going back home and she wants a divorce. This book allows us to see the growth in Maggie as she works to find the new Maggie, and she is not sure what that will look like.

I really enjoyed seeing this new Maggie in this book as her strength that she is finding deep down is coming to the surface. It is refreshing to see her find her voice and stand up for herself so she can determine what she wants and not what others want.

This is Book 4 in the series and the books should be read in series order for maximum enjoyment.

'Maggie is faced with a choice she can no longer avoid:
Go back to the life she built…
Or keep moving forward into the one she’s finally beginning to claim.'

The characters were very appealing and likeable and complicated. Plot was intriguing and well paced. World building continues to excel and impress. All in all a great addition to the series. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

This book, and the series as a whole, has me seriously invested in what’s going on. Maggie has been through it and with Douchey David making demands of her again it just keeps coming for her. But watching her stand firm and telling him no was a fist in the air in victory moment for sure. He is such a manipulative butt and I was beyond ecstatic when she started to see that too. She protects her peace and her place in the world. And it’s endearing to watch unfold. But the hard choices aren’t over for her. And now I cannot wait for the next book to see where she goes from here.

Small steps.

As Maggie is quietly reflecting and enjoying peace in Harmony Bay, her ex-husband, David, arrives on her doorstep.  The peace is threatened as David and Maggie's sister, Lizzie, influence her actions. Maggie's constant throughout all that she deals with is the music shop.  I cand easily recommend this book and series to others.

I read this book as part of an advance reader team.  I am voluntarily writing this review.

The Music Shop, Book 4, finds changes occurring in Maggie's personal and professional life. Maggie and David have an honest conversation about their future, while Nora proposes a change in their work relationship which is approved by Andrew. Tiffany calls Maggie in a distraught manner and her mom invites her to come to Florida. This fantastic and well written series continues in Book 5.

Maggie almost fell for David’s charm again. She finally realized she didn’t want to go back home with him. She wanted to be herself again after 25 years. The Music Shop has helped her through this tough transition. Tiffany is upset that she’s not going back to home. Then she calls Maggie and asks to come to Harmony Bay after finals.

I read this book as an Arc.

This is the next book in this series where it takes up with Maggie’s journey after her husbands betrayal. Thankfully she has a supportive sister who sees her husband for what he is. The problem is Maggie needs to figure out what she wants in her own life for the first time ever. This story continues to be heartfelt and I look forward to the next one.

The terrified part gets smaller. The free part doesn't

This is almost a start over for Maggie who told David she wasn't going back. And with that things change. She was solidly Maggie again for the first time in years and her life is changing and will continue to. Highly Recommended 5/5

4.25 stars! I ARC read The Music Shop (Harmony Bay Book 4) by Kel Summers.

I love how Maggie's story is progressing. She is now realizing exactly what she needs.

Maggie is seeing things in a different light, and she is terrified, but she knows that she has to keep moving forward.

Kel Summers did a great job with how Maggie confronts David. I love how raw and honest it is.

I can't wait to see what is in store for Maggie in Book 5.
