First read by this author, and I must say I loved the writing style. Sylvester (Sly) knew construction sites with his eyes closed and ran them with quiet authority. The men respected him, and the work got done quickly, and efficiently. Sylvester's personality was different from what one would expect of a man running big sites, with loud construction guys. He was quiet, focused, only spoke, when necessary, intentional, and kept a tight circle. He is noticed by an influential entrepreneur from DC, who gives him work opportunities, and puts him in rooms that he may never have entered on his own.

Soon Sly began to notice things, behaviors, and patterns that were odd, but clean. Too clean. But he knew to stay in his lane, no questions, and just work. The bottom falls out around Sly; however, he is protected. But why? Harold had this whole thang planned, as he knew that the life he was living was flawed, and it would implode before he was able to see things through. This was an intriguing slow burn story that you never see coming. Looking forward to reading more of his work.

Calculated and measured

This book was a departure from the mess that Lore usually writes as it was a slooooow burn that led to a plot twist that I didn’t see coming. I kept asking why we needed to know that Sly was grounded, quiet, observant and when I found out, I was like Ooooooohhhh it makes sense!!! This read like The Great Gatsby or The Count of Monte Cristo - very much engaging but you don’t know what’s going to happen next. Sly got everything he deserved in the end for being steady and unwavering.
