Nova never expected to come face to face with the ugly side of humanity. Fresh out of college and celebrating abroad with her best friend Evie, she never dreamed that she'd be in danger. She also never imagined she'd find her healing from it all in the arms of her rescuer. Davis had his share of tragedy in life, and he was finally coming to terms with it. Then a chance meeting with Nova, brings out something inside of him that he had forgotten existed. Little did he know what would await ahead of them. It's his job to rescue her, but he soon learns he's responsible for more than just her safety, he's responsible for her heart. This is Book 1 in The Restoration Series.
While this was a really good book, the subject matter was a little difficult. The author did a great job of portraying the worst of what can happen while not going into every gory detail, which I greatly appreciated. The sensitive subject matter shows what a fallen world that we live in, while also reiterating what a redeeming God we serve. There were several twists throughout the story which kept you in suspense and held your attention while giving you a reprieve from the intense emotions that the story could illicit. The one downside to this book (in my opinion) was the jumping between character perspectives as well as a story line that jumped backwards and then to present day and then to backwards again. It was still relatively easy to follow, just one of those things that I don't particularly like. That being said, I will be continuing this series because I have to know what happened. A seroius, but very good read.
I'm a little torn on my rating for this book. I'd like to give it 4 stars but I just don't think it quite makes it. The story line itself was really good and very engaging although at times hard to read because of the subject matter (especially as an abuse victim myself). The editing is terrible with lots of typos and wrong words, even to the point that I had to go back many times to figure out who was speaking. I would have been willing to let that slide, as this is an ebook and I know those are prone to such problems. However, the thing I couldn't get past was the time lapse. It would seem that a lot of time had gone by but then you realized it hadn't. The problem with this is that the main character's healing from the abuse happened way too fast. She was kidnapped, abused, beaten, hurt and gang raped and yet within just a few months (at least this is my assessment of the time) is pretty much fine. She was cut by a knife in both thighs requiring a lot of medical treatment, and one day she is wincing from the pain as she stands and then very quickly thereafter is riding a horse in a dress. I don't think so. More significant however is how fast she healed emotionally from the whole thing. I just don't agree that she would be okay that fast. Anyway, good subject matter and worth the read, I just have trouble with the factual inaccuracies.

We need more books like this! While heartbreaking and sobering (and some of it hard to read because of the subject matter), this book tastefully shows the damaged done by human trafficking and how being rescued is just part of the story. There is so much more to healing than walking away from the place where the abuse occurred.
I was sad to see that Evie dropped off the scene a bit. I was impressed by the friendship throughout the horror, but then the friendship dropped off until the end. I couldn't help but wonder what happened to Evie because at times, she completely disappears.
However, I loved the creative approach of the flashbacks of the book. I found that it kept the suspense and action running through it. I also loved the way that the author approached the graphic scenes. She showed great skill in showing the awful events without being graphic. That showed great skill as a writer.
This story was very moving and reminds me of the horrors of sex trafficking. Although it is a hard topic to hear and/or read about, it does no good to have people hide their heads and pretend it doesn't exist. These people need us to be aware of their plight and we need to do something about it. The story was hard to read in the beginning--as the story moved on we are reminded of how hard the healing process can be. Overall, the story was good and worth reading. I was distracted at times with some minor editing issues, but the moving story helped me to overlook those.
Thank you to the author for a copy of this book--the opinions and thoughts are my own.
There were things about this book I didn't like (First person, multiple POVs, and time switching), but that's a personal preference. However, the story is good and kept me turning the pages. My heart went out to the women and I love a good Christian story that isn't too graphic. Granted, there were parts that were hard to read, but the author left plenty to the imagination. I will definitely finish this series when the rest is written. Thumbs up!
Beware! The author's spelling and grammar are so bad (and unedited) that the 4th book in this series is actually called "Rememberance!" Yikes! That said, the characters and the story line are attractive enough that I've read two books by this author, although each time I start one, I commit to make it my last. If you can get past the horrible syntax and figure out by context which character is actually speaking (because they are often mis-referenced), you will enjoy the plot.
The worst part about reading this book is the waiting impatiently for the next one!
I loved this book and the characters. It's told from Nova's and Davis's point of view, and really ignores Evie. Maybe the next book will have more with her?
This book is a page turner that keeps the reader engaged and interested in the story line. The author does an excellent job of approaching hard subject material and presenting it in a factual way and yet gives great hope through the encouragement to her characters. Worth your time!
I liked the 1st part of the book with the girls in Australia ...he exciting part almost went too quickly. The love story part is sweet but seemed a little too unreal. All in all, a decent book. I'll probably read the rest to find out what happens.
Human Trafficking is a killer to the soul and what Evie and Nova go through no one should have to experience. But there is healing if you are will to surrender; God can make you whole. Redemption is a story of tragedy, pain, hope, love and healing.
