Rate this book
Astrologer Kate Hunter sees an average of three clients a day, normal people seeking to better their lives, their relationships, and their futures. But when she opens her door to a strange new client, an older man named Joe Grenier, her world begins to implode. Sinister connections between herself, her husband, and a recently murdered woman begin to emerge. She discovers the murdered woman was a previous client, a fact Joe Grenier uses to ingratiate himself into her life. Through him, she learns of two more murdered clients. Kate begins to question why the only murders occurring in her locale in the last couple of years all happen to be abused females whom she herself advised to leave their husbands.
Her private files begin to disappear, then her computer goes missing.
In desperation, Kate seeks the help of a private detective, Grant Dexter, whose reputation as a skip tracer precedes him. Once on board, he narrowly escapes being murdered himself, and when Kate’s Husband Bill discovers Grant’s presence in Kate’s life, events spiral out of control, and all Kate can do to stay alive is contemplate murder.

I'm rating this five stars even though my flow was interrupted a few times as it was a thriller and the astrology was really good in the main. Non-astrologers might not find any interest in what is to follow!
As an astrologer i find it difficult not to try to glean clues as to the people's charts which are not given but referred to in little glimpses of astrological detail. So as soon as it was mentioned that Leo Joe had 'Pluto and Saturn sitting on his sun, all squaring Mars' i'm fairly sure he is born july/august 1947 so i highlight and go back to this and relevant parts of his chart to check later.
So when i check, it has to be that month of that year but that doesn't fit with other factors ('sun trine jupiter in the first house' and therefore in aries - but jupiter is in scorpio july/august 47; mars is in gemini so can't be square the leo planets; and 'venus in challenging aspect to your mars' is therefore too difficult to place). When kate checks the emphemeris for the current transits, november 20th 2010, she sees that uranus, by direct motion, is squaring his natal mars (which, if it is squaring his leo planets has to be in either taurus or scorpio at birth) and when i check, it's actually retrograde at 26 degrees of pisces. This i found interesting because if Joe's sun is at the midpoint of saturn and pluto as stated, he'd have to be born on 4th august 1947 when all 3 planets are actually conjunct in the exact same degree (i know someone born within days of this date as an aside, so i had an additional interest!) But mars would have been at 23-4 degrees of gemini - and therefore WOULD have been squared by transiting uranus in pisces!
Later kate mentions joe's north node in pisces, but in 1947 it was in gemini or taurus.
I tried to put bill's chart together too but gave up as nothing fitted saturn square scorpio planets and venus square pluto, evn though i calculated what decade it would fall in.
Also pulling me out of the flow were a couple of errors, camilla looking for her husband Jack's chart referred to it as bill's chart, and she was to meet kate at 3pm, but it was changed to her arriving at 1pm and the random name of julia appeared when it should have been kate's gun. There were some minor editing omissions but nothing serious.
i found it hard to believe that kate didn't know the details of her husband's natal chart by heart, but fair enough that she wanted to check midpoints etc which would necessitate her looking at other charts relevant to his birthchart. i also found it strange that she would have handwritten notes on charts things such as' battered by her boyfriend' and the like, and some of the cheesy romance would have played better had she backed it up by some astrological connections, but all in all i have to say i was very impressed with the author's knowledge of astrology. There were some skillful explanations in there regarding both astrology and counselling and i would imagine the author to be a proficient astrologer of some experience. I'd definitely read any other astrological fiction of hers.
