Skater's Waltz

Rate this book
Figure skater Tiffany Lennox is busy with rehearsals for an upcoming ice show when the only man she’s ever loved comes home after a two-year overseas stint. She needs him to see her for the woman she’s become and not the child he knew to ensure he stays home, this time, for good. With her.

For all his wanderlust and hunger for professional success, Cole Greer comes home wanting nothing more than to rest, relax and recover. He is delighted in being Tiffany’s hero and has a special place in his heart reserved for her. But faced with the oh-so-desirable woman she’s become, he starts questioning his determination to keep their relationship platonic.

When forced by the television network to go back on assignment, Cole - for the first time in his life - is torn between his career and his heart.

I’ve read Peggy Jaeger’s “Will Cook for Love” series, and loved them all, so I decided to start in on her MacQuire women series. Skater’s Waltz is the first book in the series, so I started with it. It’s the story of a professional figure skater, Tiffany, who is also a former Olympic gold medal winner, and Cole, a television news reporter. They’ve known each other since they were children, but they’re all grown up now with some very grown up feelings for one another. There is a mystery subplot, involving a series of not-so-accidental accidents happening to Tiffany.
There are two things you can always count on in Jaeger’s books: a fascinating setting and well-rounded characters. In the “Will Cook for Love” books, you get a well-researched glimpse behind the scenes of televisions cooking shows. Jaeger has done her homework and it shows, so with Skater’s Waltz, I really enjoyed the peek behind the curtains at an ice show.
And the characters are what Jaeger always delivers––multi-faceted, believable people. At first, I didn’t like Tiffany as well as some of Jaeger’s other heroines, she was not really relatable for me personally. But, as the book went on, and I learned more about her, I warmed to her and rooted for her happy-ever-after with Cole.
With an interesting setting, well-developed characters, and Jaeger’s gift for entertaining, realistic dialogue, I enjoyed this book very much, and look forward to reading the rest of the MacQuire books.

I think this book deserves a different, more emotional cover because the current one doesn't do it justice. The chemistry between the main characters crackles with electricity and the tension from the subplot kept me turning pages well past my bedtime. This was a fun, fast romance about two friends who were always destined to be so much more.

Olympic medalist Tiffany Lennox has traveled the world and brought home the gold twice, but journalist Cole Greer still sees her as the bratty kid who dogged his every move when they were young. He even still calls her "Brat," although it's an affectionate nickname. Finally home after a two year stint reporting from war torn Sudan, Cole is confronted with the reality of his true feelings for Tiffany, and conflicted on whether to act on them. Sticking with the old status quo gets harder as her life is threatened and Cole's protective instincts kick in full force.

Author Peggy Jaeger writes with feeling and heart, making the reader root for the characters to find their way to each other. The secondary characters added color and dimension to this sweet and sizzling love story. A thoroughly enjoyable read, I will be looking for more books from this author for my summer reading list!

Cole comes home after 2 years working abroad as a journalist to find his friend Tiffany is all grown up. Tiffany is a figure skater, Olympic medalist and a strong, sassy woman who knows what she wants. She just has to convince Cole she isn’t a little girl anymore. The characters are fun and have depth. The story is well written and hard to put down once you start reading. The MacQuire Women are now on my must read list.

A great WALTZ

I love stories of unrequited love. It is obvious from the start that Cole and Tiffany share an unbreakable bond. Tiffany is sassy and strong, two of my favorite traits for a romantic heroine. She knows what she wants - Cole - and she doesn't stop until she gets him. This was a light, enjoyable read with some great twists.

THEIR DESTINY TO BE TOGETHER

The story is the second in the series, The MacQuire Women, and is a page-turning tale. It will have many characters found in the first story—because these books do connect family members and will bring in new people. The story mainly will focus on Tiffany Lennox and Cole Greer and the majority of the story will take in New York City.

Tiffany Lennox is now twenty-three and is a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist. She, along with several other figure skaters and medal winners is practicing for an upcoming skating show that will be performing at Madison Square Gardens.

Cole Greer has been away for two years, reporting on the fighting in Africa in the Sudan region. Cole is back in New York for an undetermined amount of time. When he is in town, he always stays at the apartment formerly owned by Carly where Tiffany grew up and a bedroom is kept there for him.

Their story begins in the first book, ‘The Voices of Angels’ with Tiffany, age six, and Cole, age fourteen, meeting when Mike and Carly go to Carvan for a getaway and Mike plans to visit with Cole, who attends a boarding school there. They will go to an outdoor market, where Tiffany wants a ring and Cole buys it for her. From the moment Cole places that ring on Tiffany’s finger, she is in love with him.

The story picks up seventeen years later with both Tiffany and Cole as adults. They are still close friends, but Tiffany is in love with Cole—and has been—even if he doesn’t see her that way. Tiffany’s life has been skating and practicing for skating—she really hasn’t dated, but she really hasn’t wanted to either. Cole has been around the world as a field reporter—living his dream—but he is tired of war and death too.

The story has the good, the bad, and the evil of people. It is life and death danger, mystery, suspense, and accidents. Someone has tampered with Tiffany’s skates, causing her to land wrong and spraining her ankle—but that is only the beginning of the mishaps that take place. How far will someone go to remove Tiffany from skating in the production? What about the friendship between Cole and Tiffany—will he realize the ‘brat’ is now a very desirable woman? Can these two change the dynamics of their ‘friendship’ relationship to that of a couple?

Posted on What I'm Reading

In Peggy Jaeger's Skater's Waltz we find a friends-to-lovers romance. Friends-to-lovers romances can be a little difficult at times to pull off. I mean you have been friends forever and the you want to move to on to the next step, or you have one that would love to be more than friends and the other wants things to stay the same. This situation is a little different, because there is a an eight years age gap and they met when the heroine was six and the hero was 14. Right there is hard. For a contemporary piece that is hard to swallow at times, and it's easier to get away with something like that in a historical romance. Anyway. Yes, I did struggle with the romance part of the story. Here's why I had a little trouble with the romance. He basically watched her grow up, because his uncle married her mother and he was being raised by his uncle. Slew of complications.

When Skater's Waltz begins Tiffany 23 and Cole is 31, Cole is home from assignment he's spending a little time with his family. He comes home to find a grown up Tiffany, and he's attracted to her, but he wants to keep things the same. However, Tiffany is determine that she's the perfect girl for him. Anyway, I found the romance part of the story a bit awkward. I guess I had a hard time wrapping my brain around the whole situation. However, what I did like was the story about situation happening with ice program. Some was trying to take Tiffany out of the program, so we all these things happen to Tiffany. Of course this brings out the protectiveness of Cole. Yes, I did like that part of the story. Which helped me warm up to the idea of relationship between Tiffany and Cole. Tiffany was willing to let Cole do his own thing and almost causes a riff between the two.

Overall, not a bad read. A few issues here and there, and they it might be me.
