I’ve read Peggy Jaeger’s “Will Cook for Love” series, and loved them all, so I decided to start in on her MacQuire women series. Skater’s Waltz is the first book in the series, so I started with it. It’s the story of a professional figure skater, Tiffany, who is also a former Olympic gold medal winner, and Cole, a television news reporter. They’ve known each other since they were children, but they’re all grown up now with some very grown up feelings for one another. There is a mystery subplot, involving a series of not-so-accidental accidents happening to Tiffany.
There are two things you can always count on in Jaeger’s books: a fascinating setting and well-rounded characters. In the “Will Cook for Love” books, you get a well-researched glimpse behind the scenes of televisions cooking shows. Jaeger has done her homework and it shows, so with Skater’s Waltz, I really enjoyed the peek behind the curtains at an ice show.
And the characters are what Jaeger always delivers––multi-faceted, believable people. At first, I didn’t like Tiffany as well as some of Jaeger’s other heroines, she was not really relatable for me personally. But, as the book went on, and I learned more about her, I warmed to her and rooted for her happy-ever-after with Cole.
With an interesting setting, well-developed characters, and Jaeger’s gift for entertaining, realistic dialogue, I enjoyed this book very much, and look forward to reading the rest of the MacQuire books.
