The New Devil #1

The New Devil

Rate this book
After being murdered, young Jason Giles arrives in Hell and is tricked into taking over the devil's job. With the help of his predecessor's aide, he begins to learn the ropes of ruling Hell in order to defend himself from many mutinous demons and to keep the denizens of the fiery pit from escaping into the Realm of the Living. Full of awkward heroes, wisecracking villains, and one teenager's culture shock as he is thrust into an absurd underworld buckling beneath the weight of its own bureaucracy, The New Devil is the first volume of an ongoing series.

Just kidding.

But he has written about demons, dystopias and drive-thrus, so maybe nothing is off-limits.

AWESOME STORY!

Mr. Hansen had me hooked before I finished the first page of his novella, The New Devil, the first of 11 novellas in this series! His writing is spot on! Richly descriptive, wonderfully entertaining, and completely consuming! I couldn't put it down and have now picked up the entire series in one volume to gobble it up without having to pause! You must read this book about a recently deceased 17 year old boy who happens to be a dependent of the devil himself and is quickly left holding the bag that is hell with a quirky side kick to help him navigate and master the job of being in charge!

This was a fun read with a `realistic (cell phones and such) plot´. I also enjoyed the humour and sarcastic tones... I only wish it was longer.... Thanks for the free Mother's day read! I will be looking for more of your books to read! #GooglePlaybooks

the concept is decent but i just feel a lot more could have been done with it. the whole thing feels very ...juvenile i guess. and i know the main character is a seventeen year old boy but the entire plot is basically just teen ends up in hell and goes on about how ~totally sexy~ all the naked female demons are [because of COURSE they're all naked] while being freaked out that many of the male demons are also naked [mentioned in passing, while he goes on for several paragraphs every time a naked woman shows up] and then beats up a couple of demons because reasons. nothing really groundbreaking and i doubt i'll continue with the series. this one is maybe worth the read because it's free and short, but that's about it.

Jason Giles in life was a small-time bully. He gets his "just desserts" when this backfires on him, and he's murdered by classmates, where he is then thrown into Hell's waiting room. There he meets Satan, a.k.a his Great-Grandfather. He gets tricked into becoming the new Devil, and has to guard a throne he doesn't even want against all sorts of troubling demons, for example: Kivra, the sassy demoness who's curves could kill, possibly literally but not after she's toyed (I mean tortured) you first; Azraal, the psychopath who's not beyond murdering for power; and Vilnius, the scheming mastermind who tries to work his magic of lies.

His only comfort is Gus, who is "most certainly one Hell of an aide," not to mention comedian of Hell puns. We're taken with him in this novel on a journey to survive and become the new Devil. This novel is highly amusing, and the fun never seems to last long enough. I can only imagine the rest of the series will be just as intriguing. I kind of like Kivra so far, so we'll see where THAT goes. :)

Hellish humor

Not at all what I expected but a good quick read. It's pretty humorous and well written. You know what they say, the Devils in the details.
