Ever wondered why we have tonsils? Is there any cream in cream crackers? Why is the sea blue? And if kangaroos keep their babies in their pouches, what happens to all the poo? Mitch Symons answers all these crazy questions and plenty more in this wonderfully funny and addictive book for children.
Not only do I like a good fact book, but Symons' writing style and humour really brings these facts to life, which makes it a truly fascinating book to read. A few of my family members have incidentally commented on the title of the book, so much so that I even dared my Nan to read it when she slept over last Christmas (she loved it).
I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to encourage their overly active mind and have fewer nights sleep, so much so that I have brought the other books to add to my 'collection', and I can say that re-reading this book will never get boring because there is so much you miss in your first read!
The cover may be gross, but this is a seriously great fact book. I much prefer the format of Mitchell Symons' later books, like this one, where he attempts to answer questions, usually with the help of an expert or someone he knows who might know the answer - rather than just listing off facts. It was hilarious reading about him annoying all these adults with pointless questions kids ask, many of which I've wondered about myself but never knew the answer to before now. I did think it got slightly repetitive towards the end - there were a lot of 'How did this gets its name?' questions - but still a really fun and interesting read.
It was good fun and interesting to start off with, but then after reading about 100 "Why is this called that" you get slightly bored, but still it's nice to refer to a few facts presented by Symons while others stare on and wonder how you possibly know that
