Latavia Carter can’t live or face the present because she’s stuck in her past. She marries the man of her dreams but she’s unable to appreciate him because of her haunting past. Lies, secrets, and infidelity cause her life and the ones around her to spiral out of control. But is it her fault? How can it be when just about everyone in her immediate circle has a secret of his or her own? Who can she trust? Better yet, how can she trust anyone when she can’t even trust herself? Darnell Carter, also known as Latavia’s Aladdin, is the epitome of the perfect man. His decision to keep a one-night stand a secret sends the world he’s worked so hard to build crumbling down, placing him in a life-or-death situation. Forced to take matters into his own hands, as divorce isn’t an option in his eyes, Darnell promises to honor his vows—by any means necessary! He is a firm believer of his vow, “Until death do us part”, which he doesn’t take lightly. Nariah Westbrook is a scorned woman faced with demons of her own. She believes a man is only good for one thing—if he can manage to get that right. If sex doesn’t include her being in a position of power, she wants nothing to do with it—until she finds herself falling in love with Mahogany, who is emotionally unavailable and isn’t the person she set out to be. Nariah allows sex to dictate her life, which in turn fucks her and the world around her real good. Come take a journey into this romantic thriller of sex, lies, and betrayal, and see if Torn won’t have you second guessing who you can trust—especially if your wants overshadow your needs.
I would give this book 3.5 stars if I could. Just like the title I'm torn because as I like the storyline and the craziness the characters bring to the story. I was confused when certain parts of the story went from Past to Present or vice versa. I felt the author should have italicize the font when the characters were going from Present to Past events to differentiate between the two. There were some minor typos and the quotes were a lil too much for me. Latavia worked my nerves this entire book, and I'm curious to see what comes of her situation. I have read other books from this author so I know she has a good pen game and I will be finishing this series.
I received this book as a gift and it was all that they said it was going to be. Great read a definite page turner. Once I got started I didn't want to put the book down. It was my early morning read and I finished it this morning too. That ending was something else. I woukd definitely recommend this book to be read. Great job Latoya. On to part 2.
Torn by Latoya Chandler was a captivating read with plenty of drama. To say Tae experienced devastating events in her life is an understatement. Her parents were the worst....Best friend Nae was just as mentally ill as Walter....A great job was done connecting the characters & I also enjoyed the relevant quotes at the beginning of each chapter.
There are entirely too many things wrong with this book that I can't name them all. The storyline was ridiculous, but I am mainly speaking of the amount of errors. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. I'm mad at myself for even reading the whole book.
"Torn" by Latoya Chandler is a fascinating and highly entertaining read. This is the first story by this author I have read, and I found it to be well written and well edited. In the book so many bad things can happen to people through no fault of their own, while with other people one mistake can haunt them forever. And then, there are many points in the story that I thought I knew where things were going, but now I am not so sure. It really is messing with my head! and I loved it :o) The realness of the characters and plot are what makes this book exceptional and I am anxiously waiting for part two! If you like romantic thrillers, this is a wonderful read.
If you've ever heard of the six degrees of separation and enjoy reading about it, then this is definitely the book for you! This book is one for the records and I need part two ASAP! The relationships are dangerous, misleading & loving but forgiveness is no where in sight. You want to enter the pages and hurt someone when you are reading about Latavia's past but then you want to do the same thing when Nariah forgives it. Their friendship is one built on trust or so is thought to be until secrets start coming out at the seams. Great job Latoya!
First off let me say that ending.....so dead wrong..I can't wait for part 2 so I can see how this unfolds. At first I didn't think I was going to enjoy this book, but I was so wrong. This is definitely a page turner. I started out feeling sorry for Latavia but by the middle of the book I was fed up with her. She was too quick to jump to the wrong conclusions. No one was innocent in this story but if I had to choose I would side with Darnell. Latoya doesn't disappoint with this one.
This fiction novel is so realistic. Many, several twists and turns. Only in the African American community can one woman sleep with 3 men and a woman. People take their marriage vows serious but including Jesus in your revenge is another issue. I knew their was plenty of crooked cops but Ms. Chandler kept it real in her two starring men. Sexual abuse, violence, mystery, devotion, and just plain twisted was some of the adventures in this novel. Left me wanting to read Part 2 to find out what happens to some of my favorite characters.
Can you say WHAT? At first I was hesitant to get into this story but Latavia and Maria interested me a little and Darnell and Bernard added some flavor but once the webs and twists began, I had to commit! Maria was horrible having a relationship with Walter and Mahogany and what she was willing to do to save her marriage? Lol that's dedication, I would NEVER go that far. Poor Darnell, I need to know how this ends! I was disappointed that the book just ended abruptly.
This cast of chatacters were so Intertwined in an utterly deep way. So good was the weave right up to the abrupt end. I don't know if it's my copy or if the story really ended with the line about the taxi. The only thing that bugged me was why Tae insisted there was an affair between Nae and Darnell during their marriage. If the ending to this story is edited my rating would surely be higher. Goo read.
This book was so dang good it had me second guessing what I read I hope there will be a book two soon cause I am ready for it now.I love these quotes you put in this book. Nae is some kind of friend, Tae make me want to kick her but myself, Latoya Chandler keep up the good work I am looking forward to reading more of your books.
Reading this book was like watching a movie on fast forward! The story had a good plot, but it moved so fast I couldn't really grasp hold to all that was happening! Lots of characters, but the author managed to connect them all in some way. Would've rated book higher if I had been able to savor the story, instead of having to gobble it down.
This was a good book but I thought it was a slow read. Some of the parts were hard to get into. Latoya is an amazing writer so I don't know if I just didn't expect that this was what it was gonna be about or not..
This was a good book. Some of the characters were a little crazy but it was good. I can't wait for part 2 because I need to know what's going to happen next. Good job Latoya....keep up the good work.
This book was good but had me confused at the end. I'm like Darnell WTH happened. Other than that this was a good book not sure if this is the first published book by this author but it was a good book.
This book had so many twists...if you blink you might have missed something. I loved it. Latoya Chandler did a great job with keeping me interested in the book from beginning to end. Can't wait to read the next book. I would recommend this book.
Absolutely great book! Keep me turning the pages anxiously awaiting the big reveal, that I was sure to come! However, the ending left me hanging! I hope there will be a part 2, but if not I will be very disappointed!
This was a VERY good book full of folks with serious issues. But it will have you looking for MORE. You won't be disappointed with this read. Now on to Part 2
I liked the many story lines very different. I didn't like the author dating herself so many terms from the 90's. The word spit was over used. Other than that I enjoyed the story.
Let me get to book 2 because this tangles web is something serious. Nae was just as crazy as Walter. They are trying to confuse Tae let me move to book 2
I was not ready for all the drama this story brought to life. The twists and turns; the lies, secrets, and infidelity had me turning pages like crazy trying to find out what was happening. The storyline was absolutely amazing and the character development was on point. My one and only complaint was the movement of time ... it was not clear; it could have been better presented simply by using italics! I would definitely recommend this story. With that being said, I should move on to the second installment in the series.
