How do you solve a murder when there is no crime scene, no witnesses and no clue who the victim was? How can you investigate someone when you don't know their name, don't know what they look like or even where they can be found? The discovery of a young woman's body on the grounds of a monastery is the catalyst for a new investigation for DCI Reid of the Dublin Metropolitan Murder Squad. He faces the most complex and dangerous case of his career as he tries to peel back the layers of a shadowy criminal gang and their enigmatic leader. To add to the difficulties he faces, a torso is discovered in Drogheda, thirty miles north of Dublin and the investigating officer, DI Jack Parsons, contacts Reid to tell him it might be the body of a man he wanted to interview about the dead woman. His frustrations mount when one of his team is abducted and a severed finger is delivered to him in the post. The fate of the young officer hangs in the balance as Reid attempts to find a connection between the abduction and the woman's murder. Into all of this comes a man who claims not only to know the identity of the woman but also the name of the murderer. But this man is hiding his own dark secrets and Reid must decide if he can trust him or whether he should treat him as a suspect.
