The Three Baers #2

Baer Necessities

Rate this book
Connor Baer left the ranch to see the world. He wanted no part of being stuck on a ranch the rest of his life. As the eldest brother, he was supposed to be the one that stayed, instead he took the first opportunity to leave.

Jessie McIvey wasn't far behind. Her parents had come west before she was born, and the small town was nice, but she wanted to see the world, not just one corner of it. And she certainly didn't want any overbearing, bossy, cowboy in her future.

But sometimes the things your heart wants the most, is the thing you've had all along. Two people left one small town to find what their hearts were searching for only to find everything they'd ever wanted right in their own backyard.

Nothing like starting a book in a fit of hysterics, you’re not even a paragraph in and laughing so hard your almost crying.

Conner Baer left Wyoming and ranching for Washington to become a geologist and works for an oil company. He never planned to come back to his home town but when his brother got hurt (in the first book) he found himself back where he never planned to be again. He is now trying to find water underground to help both the ranch and the tribe of Indians that live nearby.

Jessie McIvey also left town when she went to college and never planned on returning either even though she has the best parents. She just didn’t want to become some ranchers wife stuck in a Podunk town. She is currently an archeology intern for the state of Wyoming back home and finds artifacts she thinks belong to the Shoshone tribe. Jessie has a bit of a temper and has never forgiven Conner for a prank he played on her in high school. So its no surprise when she and Conner butt heads over his wanting to drill for water where she found the artifacts.

There is also a story arc that was started in the first book that continues on in this one that is still causing problems for the Baer’s. All the secondary characters are back and more humorous situations from animals which is also a theme through this series.

I love the storyline and the characters. There's a good mix of suspense, steam, and humor. I especially loved the journey of Jessie and Connor. The push and pull between them is magnetic and has been since their school days, however neither wants to give into it. I love western romance and archeology so this story hits a lot of interest points. The suspense element works and if you throw in a pet grizzly what could possibly go wrong? My only issue with the book is inconsistent editing and typos. While I like the family sage, it will be awhile before I pick up book three.

Loved it

This is the 2nd book in the series and it has all the right stuff. I love the humor that Jocie includes in her stories as I find myself laughing out loud randomly. The story line is great, add some heat, both romantic and fiery, and you have a very entertaining read that keeps you turning the pages.

Baer Necessities, is book two in Jocie McKades series, The Three Baers. Book one, about a vegetarian punk rocker heroine and a cattle rancher hero was so much fun I had to read book two and it did not disappoint. Jocie's stories always make me smile and often laugh. This is a fun series I'd recommend to anyone.
