Nicely/evenly split between natural and manmade wonders, this books includes all the usual suspects—Grand Canyon, Angkor Wat, Great Barrier Reef, Great Wall of China, etc.—along with a few surprises, such as the Dead Sea, the Serengeti and South America's flat-topped Roraima tepui mountain, (and I'm still not sure how those things were formed—was the whole area originally a plateau that high, and then the non-tepui parts all eroded down to what is today ground level??).

Even though I was well familiar with most all of these places/things, I still learned a few details. Hadn't known that the Great Pyramid (clocking in at a mere 482 feet) was the world's tallest man-made structure for nearly 4,000 years); or that specific-type gladiators only fought other specific-type gladiators (e.g., the sword-and-shield secutores fought the net-and-trident retiarii); or that some of the moai statues on Easter Island wore separate "topknots" made from red sandstone:, (although looking for other photos online, I can find pictures of the same four, so not sure if that means only four survived or there were only four in the first place). Also, a couple of things—like Easter Island and Peru's Nazca Lines (which can only be properly observed from an airplane)—REALLY make you want to believe in aliens!

I've only made it to three of the natural "wonders," although I've visited seven of the easier-to-reach manmade ones. And while it's still possible I may someday get to Stonehenge or Old Faithful (where Philip Sheridan's US Army* used to power wash their laundry—another fun fact!)…as to the rest, all such future traveling is probably going to be via books like this one.

* Sheridan has always seemed like an interesting character—but he also had the worst hat in the entire Civil War!

This book is about the many wonders of the world. This book gives many details about the wonder its talking about. And it provides many photos and cool facts about that place. It also gives a brief history of the place and why it is the way it is. This book gives about 50 wonders to read about.

This book was very good. I like how it gave lots of details and photos about the place it was talking about. This book in my opinion would be good for people that want to explore the world and find a unique and interesting place to go and visit. This book would also be good fr people that want to find a new vacation spot. Overall i would give this book a 5 out of 5.

It is a very interesting non-fiction book with facts about natural and man-made wonders of the world. Great photos, fact boxes, diagrams and other items to help a reader understand the concepts. Includes a glossary and index. 72 pgs

This is a beautiful book stuffed full of facts, photos, and illustrations. Not only does it feature special landmarks and structures around the world, it also has tidbits of history and science. It's perfect for a homeschool geography study. Note to creationists: There are a few, infrequent mentions of "millions of years."
