This is a great reference book to have on hand for many home sewing projects. The instructions are daunting and complete, sometimes too complex for the project on hand. (The bed runner - basically a lined rectangle - is 16-steps long...) The photographs are plentiful and beautifully, maddeningly styled - don't expect your projects to look so neat while in progress! Many helpful insider tips and tricks - several had me scratching my head and rereading to figure it out. What made the book so appealing to me are the beautiful and modern fabrics chosen for the projects. A more complete supplier list would be very helpful.
A variety of sewing projects to decorate your home, from curtains to throw pillows to slipcovers and more. The instructions seem very detailed with lots of pictures to follow along step-by-step. It seems fool-proof, though I did nt personally try any.
Begins with the requisite chapters on tools and techniques. Handmade Interiors covers the most popular fabric home decor items: pillows, window treatments, headboards, furniture coverings, storage, etc. The color photos illustrate each project's critical steps, including a photographic demonstration of a young child using the sewn-in handle to move his beanbag chair to a more convenient location. The contemporary fabrics are fresh and appealing today, but will likely look "dated" eight years from now. I had no trouble following the projects I wanted to create, but I suspect that a novice may need to consult a mentor or YouTube video to feel a bit more confident about a few of the steps. Overall, a good choice for people who prefer books to video for their project instructions. A good resource for someone who is furnishing a room or home from scratch or needs to furnish, upcycle, personalize or refresh a living space on a modest budget.
I'm not a seamstress. I have a sewing machine but I only use it for sewing on paper, and sometimes the girls will pull it out to use it. I picked this book up because the colors, photography, and fabrics caught my eye. Lucky for me, my mother-in-law does sew, so if I had found something that I was really in love with, I'm sure she would have helped me out. There were a lot of great step-by-step projects in here, although I can't speak to the clarity of the instructions or how the finished pieces turned out. Lots of great eye candy, though, and lots of options for curtains, pillows, furniture slipcovers, and other fabric projects.
This book is fabulous, and now I have a pattern for my Ikea chairs to cover them and I have always wanted to make a kid tepee and this one with the fire is so great. not to mention all the other great projects that are in there(soft sides fabric storage boxes anyone?) .
Excellent projects--probably not for the rank beginner, but very clear instructions and lots of new ways to make pillows, bench seat cushions, etc. Highly recommend!
