Mr. Griffin marshals the evidence that cancer is a deficiency disease like scurvy or pellagra aggravated by the lack of an essential food compound in modem mans diet. That substance is vitamin B17. In its purified form developed for cancer therapy, it is known as Laetrile. Why has orthodox medicine waged war against this non drug approach? The author contends that the answer is to be found, not in science, but in politics and is based upon the hidden economic and power agenda of those who dominate the medical establishment. This is a new edition of the book. It is the most complete and authoritative treatise ever produced on Laetrile. It explains the theory by which Laetrile is believed to work. Case histories are included.
G. Edward Griffin is a writer and documentary film producer with many successful titles to his credit. Listed in Who’s Who in America, he is well known because of his talent for researching difficult topics and presenting them in clear terms that all can understand. He has dealt with such diverse subjects as archaeology and ancient Earth history, the Federal Reserve System and international banking, terrorism, internal subversion, the history of taxation, U.S. foreign policy, the science and politics of cancer therapy, the Supreme Court, and the United Nations.
Mr. Griffin is a graduate of the University of Michigan where he majored in speech and communications. In preparation for writing his book on the Federal Reserve System, he enrolled in the College for Financial Planning located in Denver, Colorado. His goal was not to become a professional financial planner but to better understand the real world of investments and money markets. He obtained his CFP designation (Certified Financial Planner) in 1989.
Mr. Griffin is a recipient of the coveted Telly Award for excellence in television production, the creator of the Reality Zone Audio Archives, and is President of American Media, a publishing and video production company in Southern California. He has served on the board of directors of The National Health Federation and The International Association of Cancer Victors and Friends. He is Founder and President of The Coalition for Visible Ballots, The Cancer Cure Foundation, and Freedom Force International.
I am not sure how I feel about this book. The author is famous for conspiracy theories. But it has led me to seek to increase my intake of vitamin B17.
The author contends that Amygdalin known as Laetrile is a naturally occurring substance used as a treatment for cancer. Tests on mice by Dr. Kanematsu Sugiura at Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center between 1972 and 1977 showed Laetrile to be effective at lengthening life span. However due to influence of pharmaceutical interests the evidence was suppressed, manipulated, and falsified to show no proof of effectiveness. Some of the key players in early efforts to suppress Laetrile, Dr. Ian MacDonald and Dr. Henry Garland, were the same doctors who denied and delayed proof of the link between smoking and cancer.
By 1952, Dr. Ernst T. Krebs, Jr. advanced the theory that cancer is a dietary deficiency disease. Vitamin B17 is prevalent in the diets of populations with low rates of cancer. Nitriloside, vitamin B17, is particularly prevalent in seeds of the Prunus Rosacea family, bitter almond, apricot, blackthorn, cherry, nectarine, peach, and plum. Also contained in grasses, maize, sorghum, millet, cassava, linseed, and apple seeds. Recommended dose of B17 is 50 mg per day. On average this would take 10 to 12 apricot seeds. Other foods with B17: lima beans, chick peas, millet rolls, raspberrys, and macadamia nuts. Eat at least two apples a day including seeds and six apricot or peach seeds. Pangamic acid, vitamin B15 is also highly beneficial.
A controversial book that some dismiss as outright quackery, the author makes the claim based on research that cancer is caused by a vitamin B17 deficiency. He also states that the American medical community knows it to be true based on many studies, but in conjunction with the FDA, has banned Laetrile (a B17 concentrate) for political reasons (you have to go to Mexico or Germany to get it). The vitamin compound was identified as part of the nitriloside family, found in over 1200 edible plants (most particularly the Prunus Rosacea family. This includes bitter almond, apricot, blackthorn, cherry, nectarine, peach & plum). The vitamin is also found in grasses, maize, sorghum, millet, cassava, linseed, apple seeds, buckwheat, alfalfa, peas, broad beans, berries, etc. (To see a list, go to the author's website.) Cultures like the Hunzas in the Himalayas have no cancer, and their diet is abundant in apricots-- including eating the pits, where most of this vitamin is found. The author covers the cyanide scare (yes, there is cyanide in peach and apricot pits) but says the danger is overblown and was a scare tactic to get Laetrile off the American market. The research claims when the fruit is eaten with the seed, it provides a protective effect from the cyanide, so if you're going to consume seeds/pits, do it with the fruit. Anyway, I don't know how much of this book is true. The author is not a doctor, but merely reporting on studies that have been done, starting with the work of Dr. Ernst T. Krebs from the '50's who first discovered the vitamin and claimed cancer was caused by this vitamin deficiency. I might start eating apple seeds with my apples, rather than discarding them, and eating millet for breakfast a little more often after reading this book. I do like books that look to food for prevention and reversal of disease.
Comically, the middle section of the book surprised me with a discourse on the history of socialism, Rockefeller's fight against free enterprise, Hitler's uprising, I. G. Farben, etc. The author was giving this history because of how socialism has creeped into America largely unnoticed, and why we now have a drug cartel/monopoly and high-priced political healthcare, of which cancer treatment is a large part. The book had a copyright of 1974 with a renewal in 1997, and I thought, wow, this is exactly what is happening in America. It was actually a very good historical summary of politics, though I had no idea a book on cancer would include something like this. It seems I can't get away from marxist themes this year, no matter where I turn! One disturbing part mentioned was that the American healthcare industry/government is withholding this knowledge that there already is a cure for cancer, because it is waiting for America to collapse and globalization to set in, so that cancer cure can be a "global victory" rather than just an American one (the author also mentioned America deliberately held back sending a man into space, letting the Russians go first, because communism already had a stronghold in America). Like I said, I have no idea if any of this is true, but it was an interesting read on different levels. If you want to read more, you can read the author's articles on his website.
This book goes against the large body of cancer research mentioned in The China Study by T. Colin Campbell regarding cancer-- in those studies, it was repeatedly shown that casein (milk protein) as well as fats (including olive oil) were the primary causes of cancers, most particularly those of the bowel, breast, reproductive, etc. I'm more apt to side with The China Study, as its research was far more extensive and expansive, and involved many different research groups all around the globe.
Well, it's a "story" indeed. The results that the author presents as scientific evidence are so ridiculously interpreted that I gave up reading half way through.
This book is dangerous and its conclusions are wrong. Normally when I write a review I like to start slow and carefully describe what I liked about a work and what I didn't like before concluding with a final recommendation at the end. In this case, I have to make an exception, because, as I said, this book is not only inaccurate but dangerously and irresponsibly so. With that warning out of the way, let's proceed with a closer (though by no means exhaustive) look at the book and its faults. Please forgive me for occasionally delving into technical matters in this review. I do so to demonstrate where this book has erred and in the interest of offering a complete and proper review, but I have endeavored to make sure that everything I say will be understandable to a general audience.
Though ranging in subject from biochemistry to economics to politics and history, this book can basically be boiled down to two simple theses: first, that Laetrile (a compound whose nature we'll discuss in a moment) can cure (or at least treat) cancer; and second, that knowledge of this miraculous cure has been suppressed by a conspiracy within the profit-driven medical establishment. Both claims are false.
Laetrile is a trade name for synthesized amygdalin, which is found in the pits of many fruits including, notably, apricots. It is frequently, including on the cover of this book, referred to as "vitamin B17." This is a misnomer. Vitamins are defined as essential micronutrients (nutrients an organism cannot synthesize in sufficient quantities and which thus must be obtained through diet) and amygdalin is not an essential micronutrient. In fact, there is no such thing as a vitamin "B17." The B complex vitamins are water-soluble cofactors (generally coenzymes) for metabolic processes or the precursors thereof. Amygdalin does not meet this definition. In fact, the original mislabeling of Laetrile as a vitamin was most likely a conscious effort to bypass the regulatory process for pharmaceuticals and instead pass through the less-stringent regulatory process for supplements.
The claim that amygdalin (or Laetrile or vitamin B17) is an effective treatment for cancer has been thoroughly examined by a wide variety of scientists and institutions and has been found wanting. There is no solid evidence that such a compound is effective in the treatment or prevention of any cancers, and this is not for want of looking.
Perhaps even worse than its lack of efficacy (which is bad enough: patients who partake of ineffective complementary treatments often suffer higher mortality rates because they delay treatment through more effective means) is the fact that amygdalin is actually dangerous. The human body processes amygdalin into a variety of smaller compounds, one of which is hydrogen cyanide, a deadly toxin. While the quantities of amygdalin present in apricot pits are unlikely to be medically significant, the promotion of this substance as a potential cancer treatment encourages dietary supplementation with potentially disastrous results. A relatively recent (2017) case study in the medical journal BMJ described a case of chronic cyanide toxicity in an otherwise healthy 67-year-old man who had been self-medicating with apricot kernel extract for five years. Indeed, not only is the "treatment" advocated by this book potentially dangerous, but it has already done harm to an unknown number of misinformed patients!
This claim originated with work done in the 1950s by Ernst Krebs, Sr., and Ernst Krebs, Jr. While the elder Krebs was a medical doctor, his career was marked by repeated entanglements with regulatory agencies over questionable practices, and the younger Krebs after failing his science courses in multiple institutions eventually earned a bachelor of arts degree--and never a medical diploma from any accredited institution.
This brings us to the book's second main thesis: that this research has been suppressed by the medical establishment. The book's author is G. Edward Griffin, best known for his book The Creature from Jekyll Island, a controversial critique of the Federal Reserve System. His university training is not in medicine but in speech and communications and his career has been as a political and economic commentator with a flair for paranoid and conspiratorial thinking.
The crux of his argument is that amygdalin is suppressed as a cancer treatment because it would remove the cancer research industry's funding. While this is not quite as easy to debunk as the medical claims because a complete disproof would require knowing the thoughts of hundreds of thousands of medical researchers, I think I can offer three thoughts that render Griffin's argument, at the very least, incredibly implausible:
1) It is implausible to think that any conspiracy to suppress a treatment could be successful given the number of necessary participants in such a conspiracy. There are millions of doctors in the world, supported by even greater numbers of nurses, aides, and medical researchers. Even if a profit motive could corrupt a large number of them (which is a claim that has not been justified), surely large numbers of humanitarians among their ranks would speak out, and quite loudly, against any attempt to suppress a legitimate cure for a disease as insidious as cancer.
2) Physicians, nurses, researchers, regulators, and so on also suffer from cancer at approximately the same rate as the rest of the world. If they possessed knowledge of an effective treatment, even if we ignore point (1) and grant that they have an interest in suppressing that information, surely they would secretly treat themselves and would thus demonstrate a significantly lower prevalence of cancer. This is not the case. Therefore, either they are not aware of any effective treatment or are so devoted to the conspiracy that they are willing to sacrifice their own lives (and the lives of their families) to the cause. Because the latter is implausible, we must assume that they are unaware of any effective treatment. Furthermore, because amygdalin has been studied by these organizations and found wanting, we must assume that this is not explained by mass ignorance of the drug but by the ineffectiveness of the drug.
3) The claim that there is a profit motive against the development of an effective cancer treatment is suspect on its face. While it may be true that the discovery of a cure for cancer would detract from the funding available for cancer research, new profit opportunities would immediately present themselves in the fields of synthesizing, marketing, and distributing the drug. Doctors would not go bankrupt but would actually earn larger profits all while freeing the limited available resources to other avenues of research concerning other major diseases.
Admittedly, this book does make for good reading. Whatever one might say about Griffin, one cannot criticize his ability to write a persuasive book. However, the author's linguistic skill aside, the book cannot be forgiven for advocating discredited and dangerous medical practices. I provide a one-star rating only because an even lower rating is unavailable to me.
One of many alternative cancer therapies that shows great signs of prevention and possible treatment. Just include foods with B17 in: when you eat an apple, eat a few of the seeds. Have certain sprouts with your salad or sandwich, etc. Highly recommend this book. I met an elderly man three summers ago ('06) who was passing through St. Ignace, Michigan, who had bladder cancer in the early '70's whose cancer left when he ate apricot kernels, then he went off them, it came back. He's back on, and cancer free for years.
I decided to read this book after I began research Laetrile. While I have very personal reasons for researching Laetrile, I also want to know which prophylactics are best for me and mine.
I never expected the book to dive deep into politics, the medical establishment, and the elites behind the scenes. While I’m not surprised by the information contained in this book, I am disheartened. The information has been at our fingertips for many years, yet the majority still follow the path of orthodox medicine, under the guise of following science.
“Many people have been son sheltered from the hard economic and political realities of the world that they find it almost impossible to believe that such worthy endeavours as world peace or cancer research have been twisted to serve the private agenda of a few. The thought of conspiracy hiding behind the mask of humanitarianism is repugnant to their minds and alien to their experience.”
G. Edward Griffin marshals the evidence that cancer is a deficiency disease-like scurvy or pellagra-aggravated by the lack of an essential food compound in modern man's diet. That substance is vitamin B17. In its purified form developed for cancer therapy, it is known as Laetrile. This story is not approved by orthodox medicine. The FDA, the AMA, and The American Cancer Society have labeled it fraud and quackery. Yet the evidence is clear that here, at last, is the final answer to the cancer riddle.
Why has orthodox medicine waged war against this non-drug approach? The author contends that the answer is to be found, not in science, but in politics-and is based upon the hidden economic and power agenda of those who dominate the medical establishment. With billions of dollars spent each year on research, with other billions taken in on the sale of cancer-related drugs, and with fund-raising at an all-time high, there are now more people making a living from cancer than dying from it. If the solution should be found in a simple vitamin, this gigantic industry could be wiped out overnight.
The result is that the politics of cancer therapy is more complicated than the science. WORLD WITHOUT CANCER blazes the trail into unexplored territory and reveals how science has been subverted to protect entrenched commercial interests. It delivers the kind of impact that could topple an empire; and perhaps it will.
Some weeks ago I had posted my comments on 'Emperor of all Maladies' subtitled 'A Biography of Cancer'. While I was reading the book, my cousin sent me another book 'World without Cancer' subtitled 'The Story of Vitamin B17' by G. Edward Griffin. This book is a complete antithesis or, shall I say, complement to the first? Therefore, to avoid a comparison of the two would almost be impossible. 'Emperor of Maladies' has been written by an oncologist by virtue of which Siddarth Mukherjee explained the very nature of cancer and the ups and downs in the research to find its ultimate cure. While we have been made to believe that Cancer is curable if detected early, there is no confirmation that it could not erupt again. Oncologists everywhere will confirm that the cure is surgery to remove the affected part, radiology if it spreads further and finally chemotherapy with no confirmation how long you survive. Surviving for five or more years after it is detected without re-eruption would be considered a cure.
Edward Griffin is a journalist, looks upon the search for the cure of the disease from the outside . He talks about issues not touched upon at all in the former book. 'World without Cancer' is a book in two parts. In the first part he explores the 'Science behind Cancer Therapy'.
'The purpose of the book', Griffin begins, 'is to marshal the evidence that cancer is a nutritional-deficiency disease. It is not caused by a bacterium, virus of mysterious toxin but by the absence of a substance that modern man has removed from his diet….'
Statistics predict how many thousands or millions will either suffer or die from the disease in the times to come that puts the fear of God in us. Then, how was it that there were people around the world with no cases of cancer amongst them? Griffin goes on to tell us that in the small kingdom of Hunza high up somewhere in the Himalayas, the average age was 85 and people living to over 100 was quite common without a single case of cancer? The answer lay in apricots. They grew in abundance in the region the Hunzas ate them along with the whole kernel, which was a rich source of nitriloside or Vitamin B17, probably the ultimate cure for cancer? This was true in several other parts of the world as well where the people were still untouched by modern life styles. The reason was that their natural foods were rich in nitriloside that fought the cancer cells, destroying them without touching the healthy ones. Nitriloside has been found in over 1200 plants around the world, most of them edible, and hence a natural source of B17 that has been found to fight and destroy the Cancer cells. It is particularly prevalent in the seeds of bitter almond, apricot, blackthorn, cherry, nectarine, peach and plum, and also in maize, sorghum, millet, linseed and apple seeds(when eaten with the whole apple only) and many other foods that have gone off our tables after our grandmothers passed on, making us susceptible to Cancer.
An interesting discussion put forward by Edward Griffin is the detection of Cancer with a simple urine test for pregnancy, better known as the 'chorionic gonadotrophic hormone' (CGH)? This is a special test could also be performed on men. If you tested positive, in women it was either pregnancy or else, cancer. In men, it is definitely cancer or the possibility of developing it later even if there are no visible signs of the disease. The reason for it is explained in the trophoblast thesis forwarded by Dr. Earnst T. Krebs Jr. in 1952 and John Beard, a professor of embryology, as far back as 1902 that the cancer cells when they begin to form behave exactly like the cells of a new embryo by producing a distinct hormone that can be detected in urine. Yet, the oncologists always prescribe a biopsy.
Both books prescribe that the best cure for Cancer is to avoid it if you can, one by staying away from cancer causing items like tobacco, alcohol and other cancer causing conditions, the second tells how to return to the natural foods and eat them as nature intended us to do so. You could ground all the prescribed nuts rich in Vitamin B17 and keep them in a bottle on your dining table. Just sprinkle a spoonful over your food whenever you sit down to eat to pre-empt any eruption of cancer. To stress on our food habits, Griffin tells us that you almost never find an animal carcass that with signs of cancer because they it has been routinely consuming the nitriloside foods.
However, if you are diagnosed with cancer, all was not lost. The alternative to the orthodox medication prescribe by the oncologists is the Laetrile treatment. Vitamin B17 was also available in tablet form sold under the name Amygdalin. There were doctors around the world practicing the Laetrile treatment with probably a high success rate of as much as 85%.
Yet, the Laetrile treatment has been banned in the United States and this lays the foundation for the second part of the book where he goes deep into the 'Politics of Cancer Therapy'. It is small wonder that thousand of Americans are travelling across to Mexico where several doctors are treating patients by this method. Edward Griffin goes behind the scene and gives us a deep and gripping insight into the multibillion dollar business of the drug industry and hence the medical profession and the politics that it is mired in. The author unfolds how big business houses are manipulating governments, democratic or authoritarian, without ever being a part of them, and the everyday lives of the populations in the name of development and their welfare through them. It is a gripping read how people are made to believe what they want them to, all for the sake of enhancement of their business.
By the time you come to the end of the book, one is left asking which of the two diametrically opposite discussions to believe. Either way, you are faced with the dilemma asking if the patient died, would it not have been better if you had taken the alternative treatment? One is only left to be philosophical that death is inevitable, whichever way it comes.
My take is to read both the books to inform yourself before you are faced with such a dilemma.
Utter crazed nonsense. The author (and/or his friends) have invented a vast conspiracy involving everyone we loved to hate in the 20th Century, such as the Rockefellers and Hitler. Had it been written in the 21st Century it probably would have involved ISIS, Justin Beiber, and the author's ex-wife.
The reason for this conspiracy seems to be (and I kid you not) an effort to prevent the mass-production of cyanide. Though I'm neither a pharmacist nor a politician I suspect this is one conspiracy I would be proud to be a part of. Unfortunately I haven't learnt the secret password to the local Illuminati Club.
This is the second Griffin book that I have read. Both are incredible even though they were written several years ago. I am a cancer survivor, through the grace of God, and I didn't know even about vitamin B-17 which he explains in this book so clearly. The subject of defeating cancer surely held my interest and then Griffin went into great detail of why the medical industry has hid this solution. It may have seemed conspiratorial 25 years ago, but all we have to do is look at the way corrupt big pharma and medical organizations have handled the Covid Plandemic today. I have no trouble believing what he wrote in 1994.
A real eye opener of a book which is a book with two equally important tales to tell - about the harsh evil reality about the world we live in today - the first half of the book focusing on the suppression of a real feasible cancer cure which is like a metaphor for many cures that are being suppressed out there for ailments of not only cancer - but beyond ...and the completely unjustified ways this is bring l done - the second part of the book is arguably even more important - detailing of the sinister forces behind these suppressions of not just the feasible cures to cancer and many medical problems - but dark evils and oppression beyond the medical industry alone with earth shattering implications when you realise how serious this message is...

I’m estimating when I first read this book. I’ve recently gone through it again. I don’t think today, any rational person, can say there is no political, financial corruption in the medical and pharmaceutical industry. The evidence is overwhelming. Does anyone remember Israel announcing they’d discovered a cure for cancer in 2018? I remember the announcement making big news then... nothing. And I’ve seen nothing since, and most likely all will be kept quiet. Well, the story in this book is fact filled and everyone should read it in case they are faced with cancer. Cancer is big business, a real money maker. Big Pharma isn’t about to lose out to a cure. It is disgusting. At this moment I can’t recall if it was from further research or from this very book I first learned who killed American medicine by forming the AMA. The killer was slick throwing money at medical schools and hospitals. Eventually they got all Drs thinking the same and following THE guidelines. Nutrients are needed to make our bodies run right and it’s amazing how little I knew about what my body requires. Anyways, if you can get a copy do, and then I hope you become curious about what else we have been denied in cheap, readily available, “cures”.
Very interesting science regarding this vitamin and the author's theory about cancer being a nutritional deficiency disease like Rickets. Certainly eating 10 Apricot seeds a day (or equivalent) to avoid cancer seems like a harmless and very useful recommendation. The second half of the book is a revealing review of 20th century history and the rise of the Mega-Corporation which seeks to not only monopolize its markets but control all competition via the regulatory mechanism of government agencies. Many others have written about the problem of "Regulator Capture" which results in the regulations being written to serve the dominate corporate interests and the people be damned. If you have ever visited the DMV or the Post Office and not felt you were being "served", you have some personal experience in how government agencies become a power unto themselves and serve their own interests. Add the influence of Billions of dollars at stake and all the politicians that money can buy and you have a prescription for the current state of affairs in the USA.
This book provided me with better understanding of the Gerson therapy and Dr. Nickolas Gonzales's protocol. It also gave insight into the aspects mitigating the danger of cyanide in seeds, as well as the concept that all cells in a "cancer tumor" are not cancerous. Half of the book covers biological aspects of cancer and its tie to nutrition, or lack there of. The last half explains the history of the United States government's infiltration by corporate entities. It underscored Robert Kennedy's book, "The Real Anthony Fauci" with historical data previous to the book regarding the corruption.
My mother's bridge club, comprised of savvy, well-read women, provided this gem of insight with the advice one gave her bright, aspiring grandson going into medical research, "Well, for heaven's sake, don't find a cure for cancer!" Forty plus years ago she knew "War on Cancer" was rigged.
Amazing book with excellent information on both the food-based natural biological prevention and cure of cancer, and the political history that prevented real cures from becoming publicly available while promoting false cures of radiation for financial gain, during the last 150 years. The FDA, Hitler, Rockefeller, world wars, newspapers, public opinion.... it's all laid out here. Very well researched.
I've never actually read this whole book, but as much as I've read is very sad. It's about vitamin B17 which is a vitamin that acts on cancer. A fascinating book, although kind of hard because of how much history of evil there is in it. The information about the vitamin is fascinating and would change lives if it were better known. I'm never going to let cancer take over my life :).
I will never donate another dime to "cancer research" or to the American Cancer Society. This book provides unequivocal evidence that the "control" aka "cure(s)" for cancer have not only been discovered, but heavily argued and represented over and over again, but that our greedy politicians have kept it suppressed. Dr. G Edward Griffin is well spoken, his research is organized and well cited.
I became aware of how much my thinking has been manipulated by the "cartels" of big business and government. Much of what is needed to defeat cancer in our bodies and in our government has been discovered and hidden or forbidden from us. Please read this book and learn.
Read this book if you dare. It is well worth the journey, one that read post Covid sure helps enlightens as to how the covid chapter could have occurred.
The first half of the book tells you how to give yourself a great chance to avoid cancer. The last half of the book is the conspiracy behind it. It's a pretty good book. Not quite as good as the Creature From Jekyll Island, but it has its moments.
Fantastic health book about avoiding and/or treating cancer without the use of nasty chemotherapy. I was particularly fascinated by the properties of Vit B17 and have decided to throw some of this into my diet. The book is very well researched and his arguments against the establishment are solid. Awake people will appreciate this book, the normies of course will call it 'misinformation' or 'conspiracy theory'. Funny how conspiracy theorists always seem to live the longest! G Edward Griffin is well into his nineties now. The proof is always in the pudding.
Some notes:
- Dr. Krebs has suggested a minimum of 50mg of B17 for a normal, healthy adult. Using an average figure, this would take the consumption of about 10-12 apricot seeds per day. He believes in an almost guaranteed cancer-free life if this prophylaxis is followed by any healthy person.
- Most experts will recommend a daily dose of 24-40 apricot kernels spread throughout the day for people currently suffering from cancer.
- For cancer-survivors and people in remission: 16 apricot kernels per day for rest of life.
