Toasted is a work of contemporary literary fiction about Rocco and his brutally honest life story which reveals his highs and lows of making it and breaking it as a chef in New York City. Follow him through the kitchen and let him expose you to the 24/7 grind.
It’s more than a career; it's a lifestyle. But is the juice worth the squeeze?
“I am a Rocknrolla, a late night smoker, a flame thrower, shot taker and all night love maker…”

This is a raw gritty story about Rocco (based on the author’s experiences) who is an up and coming Executive Chef in New York. By a struck of luck and help from his friend, Ryan, he is on top of the world, for the moment. A tryst with two female friends of Ryan, Myrna and Chris propel Rocco down a path of self-loathing and destruction. Why? Well, let’s just say Ryan becomes smitten with Chris for all of one day and gets caught.
Rocco cannot contain himself and finally erupts. He gets in a short fight with Ryan and the spiral begins. He becomes immersed in sex, drugs and rock n roll. The only jobs he winds up obtaining after the altercation are as a short order chef at various small establishments. Instead of banking serious green, he’s only just keeping afloat. If not for his roommate, Bruno, he would have lost all hope and thrown in his Chef Hat.
There is an interesting twist when Bruno and Rocco find employment at Bella, a new upscale restaurant. They both believe they have reached the Mecca of employment with the new firm, but as the old saying goes, if it seems too good to be true, it is.
Without giving away anymore of the plot I’d like to get to the main point of the book—perseverance. The story is chalk full of real life experiences many of us have endured at one point or the other. No matter how desperate our current situation may appear, we must never, ever give up on ourselves. We must wake-up each morning and fight the good fight for we never know where an opportunity will appear. If we give up and succumb to mediocrity, our circumstances and life pursuits will become stagnant and mired in our own despair.
