Dark Phoenix: Phoenix #2 by Elise Faber
5 Stars

I was given an ARC book for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this book.

CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS ; WARNING: CONTAINS MATURE AND ADULT CONTENT

This story is told from the female lead's point of view. I have to say that I love books with various point of views and would like to have seen it from the male lead's point of view as well. I can see why Ms. Faber only chose the female lead POV further on in the book.I think it would be to confusing if she chose separate POV angles in this book.

This book is not for the faint of heart, it does contain mature themes and situations.

Dark Phoenix picks up where Phoenix Rising left off. It starts off with a bang and doesn't let up until -- well I actually do not remember it ever letting up. The author takes you on a roller coaster of adventures that you could only dream of. She pulls at your heart strings and throws you right into the book and makes you wonder how you got put right into the middle of the story. A little of it goes like this:

If you remember correctly, you see a Dalshie, who you met in Phoenix Rising, dumped the real Caroline off at the Colony compound. Everyone is so shocked to see what this Dalshie looks like. Cody rushes Caroline to the infirmary and of course everyone blames Daughtry.

During this whole time Cody has even blamed her. He has become distant with her, so much that she can not even get into his head. See Cody and Daughty are bonded and so they can hear each other's thoughts no matter how far they are from one another. Since Caroline has come back Daughtry and Cody have been fighting more their connection has been weaker. Does Caroline have anything to do with this?

Daughtry, also has learned more about her powers and how she can manipulate them for the good. She asks the head of the Colony for permission to go on a mission to CA to help out a little girl (from Phoenix Rising) to make her life turn out better. No one will help Daughtry except Morgan, who is a LexTal. Morgan and Daughtry head to CA, they help the girl and all is well with the world --then here comes Cody wanting Daughtry back. Well kinda. He then starts all over and is blaming her again for Caroline. Daughtry leaves him high and dry (as well as she should).

We get back to the Colony only to find out that Cody and Caroline are now missing. What to do now? Send Daughtry to find Cody they say. So they do even though they are still blaming Daughtry for things and giving her the evil eye all around the Colony. What is going on? We find this out later, after Daughtry has fled the colony to find answers on her own.

Does she get the answers she is looking for? Does Daughtry come back to the Colony? Who is to blame for all of this happening? Did Caroline really come back? Was the Dalshie there or was that a shimmer? Is there someone within the Colony helping the Dalshie? Is Daughtry tapping into her dark magic like she did in book 1? Whose fate lies in whose hands?

Here is one secret. The Colony is no longer safe, and the number of residents start increasing by the day.

Elise has done another wonderful job this book! As I stated before this is an action packed book. Once I started the book I could not put it down. Dark Phoenix was by far my best 5* book of 2015 so far! If I could give it 10* I would, it is that good! I know it is early in the year, however I see great things for this series. OH and there is a big..well maybe like 8 big shockers in this story! Ms. Faber is going places with the Phoenix Series. I can not wait till book 3! Pick up this book and read, you will not be disappointed.

Dark Phoenix starts off with a bang and continues with an excellent story line that will grip readers with suspense, action, a dash of romance, and definitely more than a few holy s**t moments. Dark Phoenix resumes where Phoenix Rising left off. The Rengalla soon find out what readers did at the end of Phoenix Rising…that things are not as they seem. And from that revelation, the book is a wicked awesome roller coaster of events and emotions.

As the story unfolds, readers get to know more about this world within our own. We learn about a group of people much like Daughtry, the heroine of this wonderful story, who are looking for answers and a safe place to call home. The book delves more into the reasons of why the Dalshie are so persistent in their pursuit of Daughtry. There are also crazy, awesome reveals about Daughtry’s past and history that will make the readers’ jaw drop. Events occur that try emotional, mental, and physical ties…friendships are tested…bonds of trust are frayed. Through these struggles and triumphs Daughtry is able to gain confidence in her abilities and character as a person but there is that ever present question…will she turn to the dark side? Will the darkness that consumes the Dalshie engulf Daughtry as well?

Again, the voice given to the characters are simply amazing. Daughtry is someone you continually root for, whose strength of will is admirable. Daughtry isn’t one to give up on what or who she believes in. Even with all the things that she’s been through she still has such a capacity for belief, hope, and love. The men in this book are not to be ignored. Even though they have the normal brain fart moments that guys generally do, you still can’t help but root for every single one of them. And it isn’t just that they’re drool worthy and irresistible…it’s that they are of such genuine character that these are guys you want on your side…who you know will have your back every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

I was fortunate enough to get an ARC. Dark Phoenix is a definite page turner with many twists. You just have to hold on and enjoy the journey it takes you on. I’m even more invested now than I was before. I cannot wait for what comes next!

DARK PHOENIX BY: ELISE FABER

I have some mixed feelings about this book. While I think the story itself is pretty awesome, I have simply come to the conclusion that I don't really care for Daughtry being the one to narrate it. Sometimes I felt like her self-doubt and incapability to express herself to the ones that consistently wronged her took away from the interesting plot line. I thought the world Faber created is fantastic, I was instantly drawn into the magical world of LexTals and their plight against the Dalshie. I just had trouble fully appreciating them while Daughtry was constantly engrossed in her own emotional issues. I get why she had so many confidence issues, I just wanted to see her really rise up above them and demand the respect that, she as human being, is entitled to. By the end I think she did grow a lot, and I am so glad, I only wish it would have been a little earlier on.

I was definitely surprised at the way some things turned out! I had my own theories about what was going to happen and the connection between Daughtry and the nefarious leader of the Dalshie, but what ended up coming to light was so much better than what I was thinking! I really liked getting to more of some of the side characters, namely Morgan. And I am incredibly intrigued the past between him and a certain surprise addition to the LexTal gang. I LOVED the addition of the Forgotten as well! I'd love to see more of them!

All in all I thought this was a good read! I am really looking forward to reading the next book, From Ashes, it looks as if there is a narrator change in that one and I think that could take this series to the next level for me!

In this book Cody and Phoenix have bonded and are going to work things out physically and emotionally to strengthen their bond. They are the first couple to bond in over 500 years. All does not go according to plan as Cody finds his missing sister, beaten & bloodied, and starts to push Phoenix away. (Yep I wanted to smack him to for this) Her friends also push her away, all except for Morgan. He helps her fix an old wrong she inadvertently caused. Their bond starts to fail and crack can either of them save it? Do they even want to? To learn the answers to these questions you have to read the second book. It's a doozie and we'll worth the read! Fantastic job on this second book Elise Faber I can't wait for the next one! I'm definitely addicted!

WOW! I'm still in shocked with the ending!
Dark Phoenix started right where Phoenix Rising has ended. You should be prepared for a lot of adventures, revelations and nerve wrecking situations while reading the book.
It started slow and a bit confusing for me. I feel like I'm Daughtry myself and as I continue and learned a lot of things.
I love the level of intensity that this book has given me. Like I mentioned above it started a bit slow but it ended with a bang!
I can't wait for the next book!

LOVED this book! It is a continuous roller coaster and will keep you guessing!

I can understand how Daughtry feels when Cody pushes her away and he blames her for a lot.

Then he wants to use her for her powers? Because of the bond they share? Daughtry stands up for herself and becomes much stronger and isn't afraid to show how she really feels.

Foes are made even at the colony when Daughtry least expects one person and is once again isolated.

People need to learn not to judge her but they do it all the time.

This is a great book and keeps you guessing, kept me guessing the whole time. It ever lets up on adventure, mystery and it will intrigue you.

Dark Phoenix is so much more emotional than the first book. Daughtry is really coming into her own now and yet tricks and games from the Dalshie is holding her back.

Daughtry is becoming less of a liability this book. She's starting to come in her own and realizing she only needs herself to keep her safe. A lot of shit goes down and it is very fast paced. Her and Cody have some healing to do. But Cody is determined to make it happen.

While I enjoyed it, it was very fast paced and I found myself having to go back and reread certain parts to make them clearer. Will continue to the next book though!

This is the second book in the Phoenix series and you need to read book one first. As Daughtry and Cody's complex story continues the suspense keeps building right along with the intensity and the danger. There is plenty of drama, secrets, twists, emotional turmoil, action and tension to keep you turning pages and on edge looking for answers. I'm really looking forward to book three. This is my truthful, freely posted review.

This book starts where the first one left off. Daughtry and Cody have bonded and she is able to control her magic much better. Things take a turn when Cody finds his sister in bad shape and turns away from Daughtry. I would like to insert a smack to him here. The twists in this story will keep you reading to the last page.

This is a paranormal romance with a lot of action. This is the second book in the Phoenix Series. This book picks up where the last book Phoenix Rising left off, so I would advise reading that book first. Again with another cliff hanger, the suspense is overwhelming! I recommend this for adults only, steamy scenes alert, you have been warned! In the first book I was instantly connected with Daughtry, but I got aggravated with her at times, I was so glad that she matured this time around. At least she is making decisions and sticking with them. And when she is wrong, she is willing to admit it. Cody is still hanging on, but this time I wanted to throat punch him, but he always seemed to make amends. Such a hot and cold experience. The author has thrown so many curve balls, this series is defiantly not boring.

Daughtry and Cody what a coalition of powers. She makes him stronger, he shields her visions. With his help she feels safe, something that was foreign to her before. With receiving some much needed training. She has finally reached a point where she is determined to allow herself to rectify something that has haunted her from her past, and she is determined to succeed. But for some reason she is not receiving the support she needs.

With all the commotion around them, they do not realize that danger lurks really close to home. Cody decides to put their relationship on the back burner. Her friends have been different. What else can go wrong? But their future depends on all of them. Can she forgive and forget, or has too many bridges been burnt. Their bond runs deep but is it enough?

Favorite passages:
"His mind was a hot poker against hers, the bond pulsing as his emotions drove into her."
"You can see my soul, see my every thought if you want."
"Damn if she'd revert into the sniveling pile of goo she'd been in her teenaged years."
"What did I say that crawled up your butt and died?"
"Her bondmate, the other half of her soul moved straight past her."
"Her rage and anger were intertwined, twisted together in a sick mass of emotions."
"Her heart had been the only casualty." <3
"Golden rays of sunshine glided the stand of pines."
"His olive skin and dark hair - even the single stud in his ear - made him more pirate than blushing schoolboy."
"Chocolate was the perfect cure for a broken heart."
"Your presence, your existence turns that liquid into emotions, into memories."
"Their powers were polar opposites and in that, the universe found balance."
"They moved in concert, a terrifyingly efficient maelstrom of magic and steel."
"You're laced so tightly into my soul that it would be torture to remove it." <3

Dark Phoenix seamlessly takes off at the moment Phoenix Rising stopped. I say "takes off" because reading this book provides a joyous ride for the reader. The characters of Daugherty and Cody richly interact with each other as well as the other characters within the book. At one point Daugherty says to herself: "That had probably been her biggest mistake. ....needed to be the concrete and rebar of her own life" (2719). This is a revelation pertinent to all people - although even more so for women (IMHO) need to have brought forth to them. I mean, how great would it be to realize we need to stabilize and strengthen ourselves to be the best we can be for others in our life? *spoiler alert* She realizes she needs to leave the compound to try to correct a previous action. The mission strengthens her connection with another member of the compound at the same time a chill has descended upon her relationship with Cody - due to his (understandable) reactions to Caroline's condition. "It meant nothing. It might mean everything"(1305) Questioning if a connection is still as strong as before or has irrevocable damage occurred. We have all been there - even without the purple and green strands of the Bond. There are a few other quotes that carry a thread of emotion as you read the book and make you pause and relate.
"Even though it was fragile and translucent and could be shattered with the softest puff of air" (1253) Faith in oneself, in another..Love..
Imagine the depth of love and commitment in the phrase: "I don't want you as anyone beside yourself" (3321) seriously --Who wouldn't commit some serious sins to have this spoken to them? Or
"Your mere presence painted my life with more vibrant colors than I could have ever imagined." (4349/4350) Truly, one's heart (no matter how tightly guarded and sealed against letting another touch it) would react: "As if my heart sighed and said "this is what it had been waiting for."' (4406)
'"Thanks" That single word held a wealth of information."(4836) Dominic says it in appreciation of understanding. I would like to say:
******Thank you Elise Faber for a wonderful novel. Waiting in excited anticipation for future novels giving us more connections with Daughtery and Cody as well as the other characters who are so richly written and developed. *******

Dark Phoenix starts off where Phoenix Rising left off. After Cody's sister shows up badly beaten they all realize that it was someone in glamour that is controlling the Dalshie. Daughtry is later hurt by her bondmate, Cody, and those that she considers friends. She doesn't think she can ever trust them again. This has Daughtry doubting herself more. She ends up getting help from someone unexpected to go back and help save the life of a little girl Daughtry previously altered the death of. Cody takes his sister to a cabin to get away from Daughtry after a particularly nasty confrontation. Daughtry is sent to bring Cody back to the Colony. After she is successful in having him sent back Daughtry goes on the run from Cody and the Rengalla. Through unfortunate circumstances she meets the Forgotten. The Forgotten were once humans that were tortured by the Dalshie and ended up with limited magical powers. During her time with them Daughtry starts to have flash backs and certain memories of being in the camp. Cody shows up hoping to make things right by admitting that his thoughts were finally clearing from a sort of fog. Shortly after the Dalshie appear. Daughtry, Cody and the rest of the Rengalla learn that Tyler, one of their own, had been forced to mess with everyone's thoughts to make Daughtry believe that no one wanted her around so she'd feel alone. Tyler later tells of the Dalshie searching for an Orb. After returning to the Colony time is consumed with finding rooms for the Forgotten. Therefore it's not until Daughtry goes for a walk, in parts of the Colony she had yet to explore, that she stumbles into a room holding past secrets. Daughtry learns about her father and his passing as well as that her mother is still alive and who she is. The battle to follow has you sitting on the edge of your seat. Another teeth clenching story as the past collides with the present to save the future for all Rengalla.

CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS
This book was another WONDERFUL book by Elise Faber. This book is the sequel to book 1, Phoenix Rising. In this book, you will learn more about Daughtry and her powers as she continues to explore them and her past. In the beginning of the book, Daughtry is hurt by her bondmate Cody. She doesn't think she can ever trust or love him again. Soon after Cody hurts her, her friends also start taking stabs at her self confidence and self esteem. This has Daughtry doubting herself but she learns that she can trust herself, her instincts, and her powers when she is able to successfully alter Kaitlyn's death.
While Daughtry is on the run from Cody and the Rengalla, she meets the Forgotten. The Forgotten were once humans that were tortured by the Dalshie and ended up with limited magical powers. During her time with the Forgotten, Daughtry starts to have flash backs and certain memories, but isn't able to fully explore them due to the showing up of Cody, and shortly after the Dalshie. Daughtry learns about her father and his passing as well as that her mother is still alive. She finds who her mother is.
Will Cody and Daughtry get back together? Is the Rengalla and the whole colony protected and the Dalshie defeated? Read this fantastic book to find out.
The reason I gave this book a 4.5 instead of a 5 star is because this book picked up right where Phoenix Rising left off. To most those is fine, except for a person like me who read several other books while waiting on book 2 to come out. Since I read several books in between books in a series, I would have loved to have more reminders of the first book in the beginning of this book, this would have kept me from feeling like I needed to reread the first or so many books in a series instead of jumping into a sequel. This was an excellent book in every other regard. I am becoming a HUGE fan of Elise Faber's work!

***I own a copy of this book. All thoughts are 100% my own.***

We pick up where we left off in the other book. You’re still stuck with the HOLY COW moment. (thank goodness I didn’t have to wait to read this, I’d have been chewing my fingers to nubs!) And this book was a roller coaster, I’ll just tell you. One moment, I’m crying because Daughtry truly has hurt feelings and justifiably so. The next I’m madder than a wet hen because people are being jerkfaces (honestly there was a time or two I wanted to break Cody’s jaw…just sayin’…). Then I’m crying again because something super sweet and poignant is happening. (I’ve not been this emotionally unstable since I was a young girl dealing with “girl” stuff.) Then I was happy because YAY!, but then BAWLING because yeah…

I will say we’re back with our cast of characters. We see Dante, Cody, Daughtry, John, Tyler, Suz, and the Triplets. Morgan is one of the triplets you get to know best. I love them all. There’s also new folks. You get to know Francis better and he’s a cool old man. Plus you get to meet Laila, Bridgett, and Dominick. Love them too. I can’t wait to see what all goes on there.

Ms. Faber’s ability to world weave is really wonderful. She lets you know enough to get you involved and slowly lets you know bits and pieces, like really learning a new culture. Too much too soon and blah, it feels overwhelming. Not enough and you feel lost and become uninterested. I’m really enjoying this series of hers. Again, why did I wait so long to start reading them? Stupid TBR list being longer than a country mile. So would I recommend this story? Yes I would, though the heat in this one is more than the last one, so I’d caution off on the younger crowd. (but it’s still not erotic graphic.)

“A roller-coaster ride of emotions!”

Having done a review of the previous book to this series, I was very excited to read this installment to see what happens next. As a reader you’re kind of prepared to have highs and lows in the book you’re reading. It’s part of a book’s charm so it prepares you for the drama and shocking events within the story.

Well, in Dark Phoenix you don’t get a chance to prepare for them. Elise just hits you with action-packed explosive scenes, to achingly sweet moments, to hot as cinders love scenes, to heart-breaking events and then sends you crashing with an OMG-did-that-just-happen-ending.

I will not go into detail and tell you what actually happened to Daughtry and Cody in this book because I want you to find out for yourself. Just know that my heart was broken several times throughout reading the book.

The love between Daughtry and Cody is so great you’d wish this was not a work of fiction. But the love you’ll find among the other characters, their bond to one another, the loyalty and friendship shared between them is so tangible one would wish they were part of their community.

This is definitely a great read from an up-and-coming new author. Highly recommended! Watch out for more stories from Elise Faber…she’s just getting started!

Dark Pheonix resumes where Dark Rising left off...
The story continues to unfold providing more details about the world within ours. There is a group of people that are like Daughtry. It also explains why the Dalshie persue Daughtry as they do. We get a more in depth look at Daughtry's past which leaves you in awe.
The events of this book, test frienships, test trusts, and take you on an emotional rollercoaster. Daughtry gains confidence in her abilities, but we are still left with the question of whether she will turn to the dark side and use her abilities in a dark way as Dalshie wants.
Cody's sister shows up beaten badly.... Eventually Daughtry runs from the Rengalla and Cody.
She then meets the Forgotten, once humans that were tortured by the Dalshie leaving them with limited magical powers. Cody then shows up with a clearer head, trying to work things out. They eventually figure out that it was Tyler who was messing with everyone's thoughts to alienate Daughtry. Tyler reveals that the Dalshie are searching for the Orb. Exploring the Colony finally Daughtry stumbles upon a room holding some past secrets like her father's passing, and her mother's still alive and her identity.
The battle that follows is very suspenseful and climatic.
Would I recommend this book? Yes I would. A very well written book... with lots of magic, suspense, and a very developed story.
Did I find anything wrong with it? No, I didn't. If you love magical, fantasy books, then this one is for you.

OMG, I never expected this story to go this way! I will say now that I think I spent far too long actually wanting to whop a character upside his head!

Dark Phoenix pretty much starts where Phoenix Rising left off. Cody and Daughtry are still trying to learn what it's like to be bonded mates, but things aren't going too well given outside circumstances. For example, there is a big shocker that happens about who it was that actually kidnapped Daughtry. This results in Cody being a complete donk and pushing Daughtry away. She is feeling overwhelmed and her feelings of inadequacy are rampant. She also feels very lonely as her friendships with John and Suz take a beating too. Daughtry is so strong in some ways, as Morgan very eloquently said. She has faced so much, been betrayed by so many, and yet still carries on with a pure heart.

Just like with book one, this book has it all - an action-packed climax, enough feels to leave you feeling wrung out, and a big enough dollop of humour that you feel like you just have to carry on. The secrets and mysteries that are revealed in this book are stunning and I personally hope for some more from this series, as I don't feel that I am ready to leave Daughtry and Cody yet. I am hopeful from the way it ended that there will be more to come. Highly recommended.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book; the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Dark Phoenix is the second installment in an alluring, paranormal romance series for which a reader can lose themselves time and again.  The prose effectively creates an atmosphere of intrigue and an  addictive romance between Cody and Daughtry. I honestly could not satiate my growing obsession with the male protagonist in this incredible fantasy world.

A key component in the prose is of Cody and Daughtry's magic being stronger together through their bond. Unfortunately,  outsiders with magic creates nail biting tension of devastating proportions.  The character's vulnerabilities are methodically preyed upon in a manner that just might be the end of their soul deep connection.

I've always adored the Fae realm and their stories of magic. Elise Faber easily made her way to my top ten favorite author's via this series. I take all elements of the story into consideration. I am, however, extremely particular about the allure of a story. Faber nailed it.

Keep in mind that this series is strictly for 18+ readers! The explicit sex scenes will have parents agreeing...and sneaking away to live vicariously through Daughtry's perspective.  I've never been so jealous of a fictional character!

Dark Phoenix is what I like to call, "book shelf worthy. " If I'm not going to read it more than 5 times I will not buy it. Look no further if you are seeking magic, romance, and action.

My Review
'Dark Phoenix' launches off right where 'Phoenix rising' ends, i say launches because trust me, this series has wings like the Phoenix it is aptly named after!
Daultry and Cody are slowly getting used to the protection and the deepening connection that the bond provides. Their love florishes happily for a while until the Rengalla find out in a spectacular fashion what we knew from the ending of the previous book...that things are not as they seem! (sorry to be cryptic but i refuse to ruin this rollercoaster ride for anyone who hasn't read the previous book)
Daultry has begun to come to terms with her powers and to realise that she may be able to ulitise them to help, rather than harm, others!
Elise has touched on a lot of rather controversial subjects with this book...attempted rape, the second world war and detention camps, the class system and racism, murder and torture, genocide...just to name a few but she has done it in such a sensitive and non-sensationalised way that rather than impact my enjoyment of the story...it actually added to it!
Yet again, at no point did i find myself wanting to walk away and take a break. The characters have developed and evolved from the last book in a natural and organic way. In actual fact, i find myself struggling to find anything i disliked.
Very very well done Elise! I will certainly not hesitate to read any future releases! This is one author to keep your eyes on ladies and gentlemen!
5 stars!

I dove straight into this book as soon as I finished the first. This series so far has been nothing short of an addiction and the next fix can't come soon enough!

This book starts off with a bang and ends with an explosion! From the beginning, things between Daughtry and Cody are unstable, strained, and dangerous starting with the return of the real Caroline. And things only plummet for the two bondmates, and soon, the rest of Daughtry's friends follow suit.

But unbeknownst to Daughtry, the threat of the Dalshie is even more treacherous as she learns who is truly behind their attacks. And after choosing to leave the compound, she starts a journey that will either make or break her relationships with those she's become close to.

Can she and Cody repair the damage that threatens to rip apart their bond for good? Will the friendships she's forged prove to be strong enough to survive the deception? And can Daughtry power through to save her friends and family with the Dalshie still hunting her down?

Whatever you do, make sure you read this and Phoenix Rising. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite fantasy/sci-fi series ever, and Elise Faber is certainly making her way to my top favorites!

This book continued where Phoenix Rising ended and it is just as good. Daughtry gets some news about her real parents and here is when the adventures begin. While she is figuring out the extent of her magic, we get to see some serious growth on her part an this is beautiful. She seems much stronger in this story and this is fun to see and made me very happy. Cody, well I possibly wanted to strangle numerous times (still do) because of some of his actions. Though throughout the book we find out why he acts they way he does and some understanding comes into place. The Forgotten, the new human breed, is mentioned in much more detail which made for some excitement and fun. I was so glad to learn more about them.

Elise Faber is the Queen of Paranormal books in my opinion. Her extreme talent shows in her humorous, exciting, suspenseful, magic filled love stories with twists. She keeps us on our toes while laughing and thinking wow what an amazing world she has created. Thank you for writing yet another excellent book author Elise Faber and please please continue writing forever.

I was given this ARC Book in exchange for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this book.

Dark phoenix takes us further into Daughtry’s realm. It picks up exactly at the point where phoenix rising ends. We are swooped into another adventure with more discoveries of the truth with meeting more unique and loveable characters on the way.

Dark Phoenix makes you feel the intensity, the hate, and the deception that is driven amongst the characters. We are taken on another action packed, emotionally torn, and explosively satisfying ride.

Elise Faber has done it again. She has once again transported us to her world and made us feel every sensation imaginable. She is pure talent by heart and mind with a unique flavor that you will never want to stop tasting!

Dark Phoenix should never be passed up and is an incredible story with characters that will steal your heart and that will make you want to jump in the book to be by their side and always protect them.

Elise has once again impressed me with the ability to tell a powerful story! The first book left me needing to find out what was going on, how it was going to go, who was behind it all, and why every time something seemed to be going good the bad would rise up and overtake it. I immediately started this book and wow! This book took over my emotions! This was an awesome story and I can't wait until the next is here!

I connected with Daughtry in the first book because I felt we were feeling the same feelings and experiencing the same wtf moments. She was strong in the first book but she took control in this book and I absolutely loved it. She's an amazing woman and I'm so glad she finally sees it!

Cody once again makes you want to throat-punch him! For a good part of the story I was wanting her to lay him on his @$$! Then it becomes clear and you can't help but feel sorry and hope for him to win his "Cowgirl" back.

An amazing series!

Faber did a terrific job flowing from the first book. Dark Phoenix takes on Daughtry and Cody again only this time the struggles and plot hit a lot closer to home for our leading lady.

As expected I stayed drawn into the story and connected to the main character.

The plot held solid and I loved the last line of the book... brilliant and made me laugh.

I enjoy Fabers use of humor mixed with her character's reality... a good balance. I also like how Daughtry saves herself but Cody heals her soul in ways she needs and doesn't always realize.

The magic in the book stays true and I love the unique use of bond magic though I would have liked to see it explored more in this one I have faith it will play a bigger role in future books.

If you enjoy paranormal romance, magic, and female lead... then I would recommend this book.

Dark Phoenix
By Elise Faber

Daughtry is finding out more about her powers since she bonded with Cody. She is discovering that her interference with a vision does not always end in tragedy. Meanwhile Cody is overtaken with anxiety over Caroline's condition. Of course everyone is on the lookout for the Dalshie.

The second book builds on the first and takes it further. It is an amazing trip. The characters are explored more and the action never stops. I am really looking forward to the third book. However I am not ready to see this series end.

This book was an exciting addition to the series with its twists, turns, and constant surprises throughout. The action and suspense is the perfect balance to hold my attention and keep my interest. There were some surprising new developments that had me screaming and cussing at the characters profusely. I don't know if I can even describe my level of hostility in the first half of this novel. The characters are three-dimensional and Daughtry is easily relatable to me. The path of this book couldn't have shocked me more. If you are interested in an exciting, "don't blink or you might miss something" story, then this read is for you.

I was ANGRY while reading this book, first at Cody, the at Elisabeth. I have never been so mad when reading a book. It really brought out a strong emotion, I loved the story was just so sad how it unfolded. There was a reasoning for everything, from crisis and pain both Cody and Daughtry grow as individuals, a couple, as well as their powers! I really wanted Daughtry to stand her ground and fight for what she wanted, but she had enough. There comes a time when you say no more to pain, hurt, and the unknown. Like a phoenix rising, Daughtry and Cody rise from the ashes of the Dalshie to find an even stronger connection in their bond magic.

I want MORE!!
Having read Phoenix Rising (the first book in this series) I couldn't wait until Dark Phoenix was released and the author definitely didn't disappoint!
This book picks up where the last one left off and I loved joining Daughtry on her journey of discovery! It took me on an emotional roller coaster, full of unexpected twists and turns and I loved it!
Looking forward to Elise Faber's next release, I've never been a fan of paranormal writing but Elise has definitely turned me to the dark side and gained a fan for life!
Thank you for yet another awesome book!
