I was born and raised in Fresh Meadows (Queens) New York. After a few years of teaching 4th and 7th grade Math, I got my Master’s Degree in Deaf Education and spent the next 12 years teaching secondary Math (and tap dance in the after-school theatre arts program) at the Lexington School for the Deaf. I moved to Los Angeles in 1994 and spent the following 18 years teaching deaf students Math and ASL (American Sign Language) at Granada Hills High School and Fairfax High School. This explains the recurring themes of deafness and ASL in my novels.
After retiring in 2012, I had a lot of free time. I contacted Becky Johnson at Hot Tree Editing and she took me on as a beta reader. After reading a multitude of fabulously hot romances, I thought that perhaps I would try it as well. I had written a screenplay in ’96 (20 copies are still gathering dust in my garage), but now … in 2015 … the self-publishing phenomenon has enabled the writer to take control of their own destiny and ‘just do it’! I used an idea (no spoilers!) from that screenplay and created a completely different story and characters. I soon realized, as I approached and then passed 150k words, that 2 books would be necessary. But … trilogies seem to be so popular now, I decided to take a minor character from Book #1 (I confess, I had fallen a bit in love with him) and create a story about him for Book #3. So the series – MY HEART IS YOURS – was born!
Blurb: When Roberta (Robbi) Bennett, special education teacher extraordinaire, decided to move from New York to California, it was for reasons beyond trading snowstorms for sunshine and surfing. Following the tragic death of her parents, and several doomed relationships, she craved a fresh start; an opportunity to reinvent herself. Tyler D’Angelo, bad-boy biker and self-proclaimed man-whore, equates love with weakness. For decades, he has kept his heart on lockdown, but meeting Robbi turns his solitary life inside out as they are inexplicably drawn to each other. Can love be strong enough to overcome a lifetime of fear? Note: There is a cliffhanger involving secondary characters, which does not affect the romance. The mystery is eventually resolved in Book 2, with the assistance of several new characters. (This story features two deaf and hard-of-hearing characters. The story also involves information related to deafness, deaf education, and American Sign Language.)
This story has TOO many POVS. Plus, I hate when the author tells me what to think and does not allow me to come up with my own conclusions. And why do I care whether the heroine missed 22 days of her workout last year?!?! And the heroine lies about her age by 10 years...not sure I care for that. The heroine is 42 but tell people she is 32?!?! (loc 3%) Did I read that wrong?!?!? The writing style bothered me. I love these type of stories, but I just could not connect. The story felt like it was all over the place.
I fully enjoyed every aspect of this book. The story focuses on the main characters of Robbi and Tyler. You can feel their attraction toward one another right from the start. He's a man who has had countless women, never wanting to settle down because he feels love and commitment are signs of weakness. But his whole world, and his way of thinking, changes the minute he lays eyes on Robbi, a teacher who captures his heart with nothing but a smile. Robbi has had her share of heartache and failed relationships. She wasn't looking for a connection with anyone, going about her daily life which was already busy enough focusing on the children in her class. But what is the old saying? You find love when you're not looking? This is exactly what happens to her the first time she sees Tyler at the pizza parlor she took her class to one day. The sparks were immediate and of course she was taken in by his physical beauty, long hair, tattoos, and tough guy biker image. So hot.
They know they're destined to be with one another but can their relationship survive the secrets of their pasts?
The story also introduces a few other characters who steal the spotlight every now and then. A beautiful little girl named Daisy, who will touch your very heart with her struggles but also with the bright light which shines within her. Toby is another character who you will crave to know more about. He's Tyler's nephew. He also endures daily struggles but the niche he has found in Robbi's class is helping him to overcome some of his anger issues. His connection with Daisy is automatic and their own story unravels, something to which I will go no further because I don't' want to spoil anything.
Then there is Mia, Robbi's other TA who wants nothing more than to connect with Toby. Will their relationship develop further than that of co-workers? Or will it be doomed right from the start because of Toby's past? You will have to read to find out.
I both laughed and cried while reading this novel. I highly recommend you read this book next. I cannot wait for the next book in this wonderful series.
Afer reading the synopsis I was completely hooked with wanting to read this but I have to say when I started it didn't turn out to be as I expected. I never thought for one minute that the hearing impaired people would NOT be the main characters and that threw me a little. But once I got over the change in my head I found it didn't matter because I was already caught up in the story.
I loved the fact that the author took a lot of time I feel writing this novel. She really connected with her characters on more than a personal level. I did find the jumps between who was forefront in relaying the story as a tad confusing, sometimes we would be in the head of one character and then without warning a total switch and we were in the head of a different one. That could do with a bit of tweaking but I can't honestly say that it detracted that much from the story at all.
Tyler, oh man, I'd love me a Tyler! I loved the fact that this was older romance too, he was a bad boy with a massive Italian - heart! (Yeah what did you think I was going to say!) Tut Tut. ☺ Robbi was also a great Heroine (though I did struggle with her name - one of my best friend's dog is called Robby and I couldn't get past that - sorry Teri!) She was fun, quirky, maybe a little too good to be true, but hey she had a heart of gold.
I loved the classroom and little Daisy, I also loved Toby, of course after that ending I have to read the next book! ARGGGGGG for sure ;-)
To sum up this is book that steals your time without you realising that you are that deep into it. One that you miss when you put it down and one that has you thinking about a lot of things too. I love books like this. I am happy to give this 4 1/2 stars and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it either for a different read on a bad boy falling for a teacher who teaches special needs.
I received a copy of Signs of Quiet Heart in return for an honest review. My reviews are my own and are 100% honest.

I can't wait for book two!!! The way Teri McGill leaves you wondering what happens to Toby!
This story is about Robbi Bennett getting a new start from leaving New York to California. Robbi teaches a special education class. Her two TAs are Mia and Toby, who is hearing impaired.
Toby helps with Daisy. She is six and is hearing impaired also. She is coming as a new student with a lot of problems. Toby and Daisy build a close relationship and teaches her classmate how to sign simple like I love you.
Robbi meets Tyler D'Angelo, Toby's uncle, at Rocco's, a family restaurant where her class won a pizza party. sparks fly from the first hand shake.
Teri McGill writes with passion. I loved the relationships between her characters. I was laughing one moment and crying the next.
I loved that Robbi,42, and Tyler,49, acted like teenagers with make out sessions. They waited a period of time before sex so they could get to know each other.
"A growing Sweet and Touching romance" This book is sweet and charming. The characters are amazing!. Robbi Bennett is a Teacher who works with special children at Mabel Blanchard Elementary School for Special children. Her TA Toby who is partially Deaf is a former student of the School , and he was hired to help work with a special student . Daisy is deaf ,and very shy plus being a sweet and darling little girl. Tony's Family also owns an Italian restaurant where Robbi meets his Uncle Tyler. Tyler helps his family run the restaurant he is a sexy tattooed Man who wins Robbi's heart. Robbi's class wins a field trip to Tony's families restaurant where Robbi first meets Tony , and there is an instant attraction between the two. As they are getting to know each other Tony finds out something about Daisy that will shock his family. This secret will only help his family grow stronger Robbi along with them as hers and Tyler's relationship grow. After being together for some time Robbi and Tyler finely take their relationship to a whole new level and things get very steamy in this book!. You will love this book it has some suspense and steamy hot romance along with being touching and sweet!. This is a must read book!.
Teri McGill wrote a winner! I lived on an emotional roller-coaster throughout the novel. I laughed, cried, yelled and rooted people on. It had me turning pages (well, swiping) as fast as possible.
In Signs of a Quiet Heart, Roberta Bennett, better known as Robbi, is passionate about her career. She teaches K-1 at the Mabel Blanchard Elementary School for Special Children. Along with her TA’s Mia and Toby, they captivate their students and engage them in learning activities through sometimes unusual means.
On a class reward trip to Rocco’s Pizza, Robbi meets Tyler D'Angelo, Toby’s uncle. Definite chemistry right away between those two. Tyler is funny during their meeting. It was like watching a high school boy find his tongue to speak with the pretty girl. But he makes it and they begin a wonderful, sweet relationship that is filled with challenges of their pasts.
But it’s not just about them. There are others who make the story special. A student captures their hearts and brings sunshine to the classroom. Toby and Mia grow close. But then you need your tissues because life isn’t all roses.
Signs of a Quiet Heart is a sweet, witty, heart-warming and heart-breaking novel. The story line is amazing and well written. Each character seeps into you and feeling their emotions is automatic. Teri McGill is a gifted author in crafting and delivering a story you won’t forget. I look forward to more in the series.
SIGNS OF A QUIET HEART was an amazingly written book, I have never read such an emotionally charged book as this one. This story is a down to earth book dealing with an older couple developing a relationship and there is no alpha millionaire but there is an every day school teacher, Robbie and Tyler a assistant manager at the family pizza joint and a tattood biker, what could those two have in common??? Their story is so beautiful it was unreal, it was love at first read for me. There are many secondary characters who help to shape this story into what it is, there are Robbie's teachers assistants Toby and Mia (who for sure need a story of their own) and then there is Tyler's parents Nonno (grandpa) and Noona (grandma)and then there is the little girl in Robbie's class that grabs everybody's heart and that Daisy, without them there would be holes. I love each and every one of these characters. The plot in this book is perfectly written and is very fast paced, it is full of love and with love comes tragedy and with tragedy comes heartache but all these things put together make an amazing love story of Tyler and Robbie. SIGNS OF A QUEIT HEART in my opinion is deserving of more than five stars, cannot wait for book two!!!
What a heart wrenchingly beautiful book. I shed a tear or two whilst reading this well-written story, many of the characters being damaged in some way and trying to live their lives by putting their tragedies behind them. I love the school setting and the warmth and love between the educators and their students, really opens your eyes to what beauty there is in kind words and actions. I enjoyed the growing relationship between Robbie and Tyler, two beautiful souls who were destined to be together from the very beginning. I also enjoyed the fact that they were in their 40's, and they passed their wisdom on to the younger characters in the book in such a way that there was no condescension because they were young, they did it beautifully. The ending did throw me a bit as I was not expecting a Cliff hanger and my heart broke for Toby when he found himself in a situation that was out of his control. I can only hope that his story won't be far away as he is a truly gentle young man who has lived through enough trauma in his twenty-one years to last a lifetime. Thank you Ms McGill for the ARC, I look forward to many more wonderful stories from you.
*I was given a copy of this book as a gift from Stephanie's Book Reports in exchange for an honest review.
4 stars for Signs of a Quiet Heart by Teri McGill. This is the first book in the My Heart is Yours series, and it is not a story about vampires or people who are into kink. It is about two every day people who fall in love. I know, what a concept, right? ;)
Robbie is a special needs teacher who truly has a heart of gold. When she meets Tyler, it is love at first sight. However, they each have some issues to work out before they can totally commit to one another. While their evolving relationship is the main focus of this story, they are some great secondary characters who will surely steal your heart.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story progresses at the perfect pace, and the characters are well developed. Even though it ends with a huge cliff hanger, I promise you will not be disappointed. I can't wait to read the next installment in what promises to be a great new series!
OMG... This book! That cliff hanger! I'm still teary eyed and trying not to spend my review yelling at Teri McGill for breaking my heart. GAH! So good.
Sweet and heart warming, I loved the relationships in this book so much. They were all there for each other. The older couple teaching the younger one.
Mia was wonderful and kind to poor Toby during all his troubles. I think I loved Toby the best. He was just so strong and protective. Robbie & Tyler, gotta say reading a love story about a couple in their forties was refreshing LOL It was sexy and loving, I really enjoyed it.
I thought their story was written so beautifully. The school and the children there was such a different aspect I loved. I found it really interesting. And sweet, sweet Daisy. Loved her ❤️
I really enjoyed this book! Tyler is a hot, tattooed, motorcycle-riding hero who falls for Robbi, a sweet, very likeable school teacher. Robbi teaches at a school for the deaf and that is one reason I chose to read this book - to learn something I knew nothing about. There were also very compelling sub-plots involving strong secondary characters. I'm thinking some of those story lines are going to be picked up and dealt with further in later books in the My Heart Is Yours series. Overall, a very engaging read!
This book was not at all what I expected. A heartwarming love story that covers not only a older couple, but a younger one as well. It was written with detail and from several perspectives. The change of perspectives was a little jarring at first, but once you got used to it, it was fine. I felt a little confused by some of the little things (long haired almost 50 year old man, fanny pack wearing woman), but again I suppose it is feasible. The story itself is what was endearing.
Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down until I finished. There is quite a few different stories going on in this book, and many unexpected turns. The ending has me intrigued and ready to dive into book 2 for answers. A definite winner.
Not the average romance. This book was filled with intense passion and love scenes. Some tragedy and baggage to be resolved before relationships can begin. Special needs teacher meets hot older intense man. It was great.
First off this book has impacted me the most in 2019. I truly loved the connection between Daisy and Toby. The illustrations were so nice to see. Robbi is quite a hero in her own right able to put her pain or troubles aside to show everyone love and light in their lives. I hope everyone reads this book I need to start book 2 soon !!! I think Teri deserves a shout out for bringing the knowledge of asl to people who otherwise may not have exposure so much respect in my heart.
Oh my God! Ugly crying!!! The stories of Toby and Daisy absolutely made this book, and they are secondary characters. I didn’t fall so much for a Tyler and Robbi. They were fun but a little too over the top. She lied about her age, and he reminded me too much about an old boyfriend of mine — way too over the top, too needy and a pain to get rid of. Not sure what to make about the ending and I was hoping that the next book was about Toby. Not sure whether I will sleep tonight.
Sadly, what could have been a good book just couldn't be accomplished because of several things going on.
The characters....dear Lord these characters are annoying. Everyone cries. All the time. Every page. On and on went the boo-boo fest until I thought I was going to have to wrap my kindle in a towel. Good god, I grabbed the Kleenex box and offered it to the characters, I knew they needed it way more than I did because they cried every single page....all of them. I've honestly don't know if I've ever read a book that every single character cries on every single page over and over. It was just a matter of who's turn is it to soak the kindle now.
Another thing.....cheesy. repeatedly repeating the cheesiest I love yous and your so perfect, again from every single character.
And then....this whole POV thing going on in here. Good god again....everyone gets a say. Third person, but with a twist....these odd first person inner monologue that grated on my nerves. PICK ONE.
Now the whole suspense thing going on isn't so bad. I just don't know if I want to read through all the other stuff to get to it, you know. I've weighed my options. I could probably just read the reviews and find out what happened without going to the cheesefest with my box of Kleenex for the characters and towel for the kindle.
Beautiful story of love in all its different forms. The centerpiece of this tale is the journey to love by two damaged forty somethings ....Robbi and Tyler. Like a stone cast into a lake sends out ever expanding ripples to the shore, their kindness, love of life and gentleness of spirit reaches outward to those around them: students, co-workers, family, friends. It was refreshing to experience honesty in relationships, truthfulness, faithfulness, loyalty, vulnerability and to observe the challenges that flawed humans wrestle with, working through their hopes, fears and dreams. There is success and failure, victory and defeat, happiness and tears, dark days and moments of sunshine. You've read the blurb. It is a slice of reality. This story is interesting, moves at a moderate rate, characters feel real, challenges are true to life events and you will be entertained by the resilience of the human spirit. Excellent story, well written.
Set against the backdrop of a school for special needs children, this story provided insight into the moving yet sometimes heartbreaking world of working with such amazing kids. The romance was equal parts sweet and steamy, which is the kind of romance I like the best. The secondary characters were nearly as strong as the primary ones. Toby, in particular, is the type of character that is likely to still resonate long after you close the book. One element I did find distracting, though, was the POV flipping. It was clear that this was not an amateur mistake but rather intentional on the part of the author. I just found it distracting and it pulled me out of the story every time it happened. Though I liked the additional insight into the characters’ feelings, I felt it might have worked better to have a few lines of the thoughts of the characters here and there to enhance the mood, rather than essentially repeating the same scene over again in an additional POV. Some good plots twists here, and the extended family characters were memorable as well.
I received this book as a Goodreads first read. I enjoyed reading this story, but the conversations don't seem to flow like two people talking. If you read a lot it'll be easier to pick up the rhythm. There are parts to the book that can be educational and I found this as a plus. The story doesn't reveal much about the male character's background but does delve deeper into the female's past. I felt like I was missing something. There is a bit of side story involving another character and I felt he was worth learning more about. Overall the story was good but just felt like something was lacking in the details.
I love this series it's so sweet but with elements of hot. The Toby and Daisy big brother and baby sister part of the story broke my heart because I'm a baby sitter and I can't imagine what my big brother would go through if he lost me. I have a lot of medical issues but I fight my way through them just so I can be here for him. He wasn't born to be an only child. Tyler and Robbie that story is just so heartbreakingly cute so is Mia and Toby story.
What can I say ..... Beautiful. Nothing like the blurp said and quiet slow to settle. But when it did.. Oh My goodness but it was lovely. It was enthralling and passionate and happy and sad and hopeful and devastating and every other emotion you could hope for in one book. Book 2 locked and loaded
Signs of a Quiet Heart was a book that I wanted to kept reading and wanted to put down at the same time. It wasn't what I was expecting at all. Even though, the plot was interesting, it wasn't fulfilled to its best potential. I felt it had too much sex scenes than story line. I don't think I am going to continue the series. Overall, I give it a one star.
This is an absolutely amazing read! I loved it although there is a cliffhanger, it is really an amazing book! I not only read it as an ARC but also purchased it as an e-book! Its totally amazing! I highly recommend this book to everyone.
