DNF. .5 Stars if possible. And even that is being generous.
This novel is horribly written and the characters have absolutely no depth and are infuriating.
I don't want to say that it's unrealistic because I'm sure there are people out there who hold commitment to that high of a standard, but obviously the marriage in this novel wasn't going to work. I don't know anyone with such low self-respect, that they would endure such a relationship. Ellen is abusive, a spoiled brat, and a conniving bitch. Kevin is a weak, spineless, doofus that encourages her.
Don't even get me started on Marina. Yes I understand that some people can't help how they feel, or sometimes even who they fall in love with. But honestly with a married man? Clearly he wasn't happy, but that doesn't change the fact that he was married. Yes nothing really happened from what I've read so far, but she met him like three times and she was already in love with him parentheses and vice versa parentheses. Yes you want to have a child, yes the love of your life left you standing at the altar heartbroken. But again, on the topic of self-respect…
The characters just weren't thought out.
Question for the author, do you just write to meet deadlines or do you actually write because you enjoy it? Because I don't think I've ever read any of your other novels but either this is your first novel draft and y'all publish the wrong one or you've had five novels due in one month and you didn't have time to think this through.
I like sappy/ trashy romance novels as much as the next guy, however I feel like anyone can be an author with dribble like this. Do you get paid for this?
I'm sorry if I was offensive, and I'm taking this all out on you, but I just don't understand how some of these novels get published. Reading is an expensive hobby. I'd appreciate it if some authors put time and effort in their writing. I realize some authors have quote unquote real jobs in addition to coming up with amazing stories that people, like myself live vicariously through, but there has to be at least some type of standard. As much as I love the site, life isn't Wattpad.
I was highly disappointed because I absolutely adore novels like this.
