Celeste Thompson only wants to run a successful restaurant and hopefully an equally successful hotel. But her mom has other ideas. Why not sell? Why not come back to Texas? And the questions go on and on. Celeste loves living in the little town of Ouray, it’s quite slow, and homey. Something her mother truly doesn’t understand nor appreciate. Rue Celeste would like more from life, like a husband, a couple kids, and maybe a pet. But that was not what she needed right now, she’s a businesswoman after all.
Gage Purcell lives to take care of his two beautiful little girls. His place in the world is in the mines but life is giving him a job as a contractor. Something, yes, he can do, but not something he wants to continue doing. With no wife to care for his girls, he knows it falls on his shoulders alone to care for them and keep them from getting hurt again, by another woman. When he meets Celeste, he believed her to be a head strong businesswoman like his ex-wife, but pushing her restaurant aside he finds she is extraordinary in everyway including helping him take care of his girls.
Just when Gage believes he can give Celeste his heart, something in her past stops him abruptly. Can he ever look past it and love her for who she is? Or will he loose out on any happiness a life with Celeste could give him?
A Father’s Second Chance is a wonderful novel full of love, healing, and a little bit of mischief. I loved ever aspect of this book. I had this book read in a matter of hours its so good. I hope everyone else can enjoy this book the same way I did. I love this author!
**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author.
A great read! I just love it when books end with the beginning of a new year...so full of hope and promises! Mindy has a lovely style of writing that brings one effortlessly into the world she has created.
My second venture into Ouray. What a great story of love and faith. The characters are so well written you just follow their lives holding your breath through the crisis and exhaling at the happily ever after. Definitely a must read series.
I really enjoyed this novel. The main characters, Celeste Thompson and Gage Purcell, backgrounds were deep and layered, making them come to life on the page. Gage’s children, Emma and Cassidy, were adorable and a joy to read about. Their cute antics frequently pitted the main characters against each other, as Gage and Celeste both had long term plans that didn’t involve marriage or even a serious relationship. A page-turner and great plot, but the one downside to this book is that Celeste makes homemade cinnamon rolls. She bakes them frequently....And I craved them each and every time she took them, steaming and wafting of cinnamon gooiness, out of the oven ;-) But if you can get past the craving, pick up AFather’s Second Chance for an awesome read!
We all have pasts. Sometimes it becomes difficult to share those pasts with someone we have fallen in love with for fear that they will reject us if they know the truth. Even if God has already forgiven us, it can be hard to open up because what if we do and they simply chose to walk away? That is the decision that Celeste Thompson will have to face if she is honest with how she feels after vowing to never fall in love. After her own father abandoned her when she was little, between how her mother raised her, she was bound and determine to hold up her side of that agreement.
When she first moved to the small mountain community of Ouray, to reopen Granny's Kitchen, a restaurant her grandmother used to own, she had hoped that would be enough to keep her busy. Then came the possibility of adding 3 family suites above the restaurant if she can find someone to help renovate them in keeping with the feel of the restoration she wants. She isn't looking for a complete tear down and redo but more along the lines of restoring them to their former beauty but with more modern conveniences. She only hopes the contractor that she has been referred with be one willing to work with her.
Gage Purcell had hoped that a job would open up for him in the mining time of Ouray, that is the reason he decided to move back to town, along with finding a fresh start for him and his young daughters Emma and Cassidy. After all that time in school obtaining a degree in becoming a mining engineer he had hoped that would be a no brainer, but with no work possibilities on foreseeable horizon, he agrees to check out a restoration project for the new owner of Granny's Kitchen. What he discovers is that she appears to be exactly just like his ex-wife Tracy, who walked away from their family after the birth of their second child and never looked back. He has women like this all figured out, all business and only one thing in mind, their next business prospect. But it is possible he has it all wrong?
I received A Father's Second Chance by Mindy Obenhaus compliments of Harlequin Love Inspired Publishers and Christian Fiction Blog Alliance for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation, aside for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is such a heartwarming and quaint romance just perfect for this time of year. It's short enough to finish in a day but feels as if you have read a full length novel. Reminds me of the kinds of stories I wrote when I was much younger and ones I still very much enjoy today. This time with a country cook and a handsome handyman with two adorable daughters added to the mix, makes for a wonderful 4 out of 5 stars in my opinion.
There's something about the surly construction type, isn't there? Especially when you know why he's less than enthusiastic when it comes to a powerhouse city girl like Celeste. Of course, she thinks he's just plain rude. Let the sparks fly! Reluctant attraction on both sides creates quite a sizzle as the pair are constantly thrown together. And Gage's two little girls add a whole new level of delight to an already captivating read. High drama and hilarious comedy make this a fast-paced read that any avid romance reader will happily devour.
A Father's Second Chance by Mindy Obenhaus. Celeste Thompson owes a restaurant and has a hotel that need fixing up. Gage Purcell is a contractor who likes fixing up building to there originate condition. He has two girls ages 8 and 11. He is waiting for a management job to open at the mines in the small town. Both Celeste and Gage have past history and has a hard time giving their hearts to someone else. A very good read.
In terms of love inspired books, this is by far the best book I've read. Celeste is really well written. She is kind, loving, generous, compassionate, and also driven and ambitious. She is so good to Gage's girls. You can really understand why Gage falls in love with her. A lot of the love inspired stories have leading women taking a back seat when it comes to being assertive and ambitious. Celest does not. Kudos to Mindy for writing Celeste so well.
A Father's second chance is worthy of a read. It is a story young woman entrepreneur who takes over her grandmother’s restaurant and how GOD uses a man and his two daughter and the town to have them deal with past hurts and moving towards a future. It is a reminder that we can plan but you go nowhere if you do not deal with the hurts of the past. It is part of a series but does well on its own
Heartwarming story set in the beautiful small and real town of Ouray Colorado. It's about adjusting to life when plans don't work the way you, well plan. Both the hero and heroine have to deal with a past that they don't want to shape your future. Can you forgive and love someone that has done something in the past you find unforgivable?
There was a lot more God in this book than I was anticipating - which isn't a bad thing, just not something that I was expecting when I started it. It was a decent read, but not one that I would read again.
"In this quick, brisk read, Celeste illustrates the difficulties associated with trying to follow the plans of others versus what we believe God wants for us" (RT Book Reviews, 4 stars).
