I really wanted to finish this book but...

description

Everything was BORING...from the story, to the characters and the information's in the book. I feel asleep twice trying to read it and I'm not exaggerating at all.

description

The chemistry between the characters was ZERO and I found that the author had a habit of putting so much irrelevant information in her writing that you could not help yourself and start skipping paragrafs...it was sad really.

Wow...what a disappointment. Certainly not a way I wanted to spend a Saturday evening. I had a difficult time not giving this a one-star rating but I decided on two-stars because I have always been a fan of Maureen Child. So sorry Maureen but this just did not do it for me, did not sit well in any way but I do remain your fan.

I had a feeling from the very beginning that I was not going to care for this book very much but I was hoping against hope that it would be a super read. It was not.

Brady, the billionaire boss, IMHO, was such a jerk that I had a hard time reading about him. His treatment of Aine, the heroine, was pathetic. He cruelly rejected her and sent her packing crushing her heart in the process. No wonder she kept the pregnancy from him. He wanted nothing to do with her or the child and thought he could throw some money at her and all would be well as they continued to live on separate continents. I disliked him so greatly that I did not root for them or want them back together in the end. She could have done much better with someone else and I was hoping that's what would happen.

It was very irritating and frustrating how we heard the same ole thing over and over from Brady. Poor me. Had a rough life. No one has ever wanted me. No one has ever loved me so therefore I cannot love or want anyone, don't know how to - so I'll abandon the people who love me and throw money at them....on and on and on. It was sickening and I wanted to slap some sense into him or strangle him for his stupidity. Brady failed to redeem himself, in my opinion, and was lacking in the things that mattered.

I will not continue this series and I cannot in good conscience recommend this book. When I find the hero or heroine unlikable it is next to impossible for me to like the book.

I guess there are spoilers below, but I'm not sure how anything in this story could be spoiled in any way, shape, or form.

My top 7 beefs with this book:

1. The male protagonist of the story is a video game designer named Brady Finn, who is dark-haired, attractive and can get any woman he wants (so he says). This may be my own stereotypes creeping in here, but this doesn’t seem realistic. I’d believe a slightly nerdy but good-looking guy being the CEO of a video game company, but this character just seems like he’s been transplanted from a Fortune 500 company and put into this scenario. Maybe it wouldn’t seem like that if we were *shown* more about his character, rather than *told*. (See #4)

2. It doesn’t occur to Brady Finn that Aine, our heroine, can’t just stay an extra few weeks in the U.S. without calling home and telling her family where she is and what she’s doing. She says something like, “That’s how family works” or something, and he says, “I wouldn’t know.” Really, Brady Finn? A bright guy like you doesn’t understand how family works because you “don’t have” a family?

3. The writing of this particular Irish vernacular and speech pattern really bugs me. It’s just not necessary. I get why a writer might want to write Aine’s voice in that way (i.e. it might show that she’s from a small village in Ireland, which might read as SUPER Irish), but it just comes off as awkward and inauthentic. It’s like that time when I had a friend who made a habit of imitating my mom’s Filipino accent so inaccurately and so offensively. She really thought she was pulling it off and being funny, but what she was really doing was disrespecting my mom and my culture, and pissing me off.

4. Aine loves Brady? Really? Why? He’s been nothing but a mediocre dude at best, and a real big dick at worst. We have been shown nothing that makes this guy even slightly lovable, and there is no chemistry between these two at all. We get a lot of backstory and a lot of the interior life (I guess) of these characters, but we don’t see much of any interaction between them. We’re told things a lot, and not shown – that’s a basic creative writing 101 no-no. You can’t just *tell* us there’s tension/heat/chemistry between these two – you have to *show* us. It’s also unacceptable to have the characters *tell* each other that they have heat/tension/chemistry without the receipts. Watching and experiencing the development of a relationship is what makes the whole thing enjoyable.

5. PLAN B, YOU GUYS. The answer to the whole premise of this book is so easy. It’s not even like they have to decide between continuing a pregnancy or having an abortion. They just need to go get Plan B. There’s no reason to “not worry until there’s something to worry about.” Surely, one of these two characters can get their hands on some Plan B. There’s just no fucking reason to play the wait-and-see game when a white dude with money and easy access to services is involved. COME ON.

6. The last half of the book is so non-descript, I’m too tired to write about it. Of course, Brady Finn flies to Ireland, finds out Aine is pregnant, and demands that she marry him. He says all these things like, “I had a right to know about the baby,” and I made notes that said things like, “No, Brady Finn, you actually don’t have a right to know about the pregnancy because, a-you’re a huge dick, and b-you could have solved this whole thing by going to the store post-coitus and GETTING PLAN B, you asshole.” She resists him with the force of a kitten, and then marries him. The end.

7. Now, I know what you’re saying. Maybe Aine was just okay with being single mom, and I can buy that. She certainly said something like, “Would it be so bad to be pregnant and have this baby?” I would actually have adored that scenario and decision. I would have loved for her to say, “Brady Finn, that asshole. He can go to hell. I’ve always wanted a child, and this is my chance. I’m having this baby!” That’s not what happened here though. It seems that she continued the pregnancy mainly to keep a link between her and Brady Finn, as a symbol of the love she could never express to him (a love that grew for no reason at all, as far as I’m concerned). What’s so frustrating to me is that Aine is written with no agency or decision-making abilities at all. Sure, she talks back and "has a temper," but she isn't written with any complexity that makes any sense.

I could write more – I’m that frustrated with this book – but I don’t want my review/rant to be longer than the actual book itself. This is the third Harlequin Desire book I’ve read, and all three have irritated me to an equal degree. These plots are meant for a longer format – let them be longer books! I’m willing to bet that the storytelling would be better.

If you liked this book, and you somehow managed to read through this entire review, that's cool. Different strokes for different folks. This one was not my bag at all.

Very good book. Brady and his two coworkers own a successful video game design company. They have decided to branch out and have bought a castle/hotel in Ireland. They plan to turn it into a themed hotel, based on one of their most successful games. To work as his liaison on the castle renovations, Brady has sent for the hotel manager to come to California and meet with him. Aine isn't sure what to expect from Brady. All she knows is that she won't allow him to turn a stately old castle into a tacky theme park.

Sparks flew between Brady and Aine from the moment they met. Aine is a red-headed Irishwoman with a bit of a temper (reminded me of Maureen O'Hara) who wasn't real happy with the feeling that she's not getting any respect from him. Underlying those feelings was an intense physical attraction that she can't deny, but won't accept. She's got enough going with the hotel, starting something with her boss is a bad idea, and it couldn't go anywhere with the distance between them. Brady is just as attracted to her, and even more unhappy with the idea. He doesn't get involved with employees, and he sure as heck doesn't do relationships.

Brady is a man who keeps tight control over his emotions. He's never had a family of his own and doesn't believe that he ever will. Having never experienced that kind of love, he believes himself incapable of feeling it. As he and Aine spend more time together, working on the plans for the hotel, he becomes more fascinated by her and can't keep her off his mind. The attraction intensifies, but he keeps trying to push her away, until the night neither can resist any longer. But the strength of the experience and what he feels for her sends Brady into a panic, causing him to say some things that aren't very nice. Aine has realized that she is in love with Brady, but it is a love that won't be returned. She sees that he is a good man who is capable of love but she is unable to convince him. She goes home to Ireland the next day, ready to move on with her life.

The pregnancy is a surprise, but she is thrilled to have that piece of Brady. After everything he said to her, she decides not to tell him about the baby, believing that he wouldn't care. Five months later, Brady shows up, supposedly to check on progress, but in reality because he's been unable to forget her. He's furious she didn't tell him about the baby, and determined to do the right thing. But Aine refuses to be an obligation. She doesn't want his money or his duty, all she wants is his love.

I loved seeing Brady get absorbed into Aine's world. It was great to see the cold and distant man disappear under the onslaught of Irish cheer and hospitality. As he works to get Aine to see his point of view, his actions show the changes he is going through, but he doesn't see it himself. The confrontation between Brady and Aine, as she tells him what she needs from him and he refuses to believe that he can provide it, was heartbreaking. I loved the lecture he got from his friend Mike, and how he finally started to see the truth. His return to Aine was sweet and romantic, and seeing him let go of the past so he could have the future he wanted was fantastic.

I loved the setting of the castle and following along with the plans for what they are trying to do. Even though I'm not a gamer, it sounds like a place I would go to. I loved Aine's mother, Molly, and her unwavering support of Aine. I also enjoyed seeing her take Brady into her heart and give him the mother-like love he had never had. I'm looking forward to the next book with Mike and Jenny. He had such a clear eye for what was happening with Brady and what he needed to do, and he seems so blind to what is happening with himself. Should make another interesting relationship.

See more of my reviews on my blog Thoughts At One In The Morning.

My Thoughts:

This story was not what I expected--and that's in a good way. It was a slow start, a lot of talk and back and forth between Brady and Aine. It took a little while before you could sense the underlying sexual tension. It culminated in a kiss, one they decided wouldn't be a smart idea to repeat. But based on the title, of course, you know it leads to a night together. Since the night was unplanned, the two of them didn't give much thought to the necessity of preventing the chance of pregnancy. Brady, being the upstanding man he is, tells Aine to let him know if she gets pregnant. Five months later, he shows up in Ireland to follow up on the business deal to find out that she's carrying his child. He's upset, obviously, but she doesn't want his charity--she wants his love. Can Brady give her what she needs?

Having Her Boss's Baby is a sweet story, even though it's a bit predictable. I loved Aine--she's such a smart woman, with lots of sass and spark. While Brady at times doesn't seem like he cares, you know there's a reason why and that he can be a better person. The chemistry between Aine and Brady is fantastic. I enjoyed watching it develop, watching them figure each other out and fall for each other. All in all, another very lovely story from Maureen Child.

My Rating: Very Good

"Self-centered much?!"

I think this describes the heroine's attitude to a T.
Apparently, she worked herself up from kitchen-staff to hotel-manager in a castle used as such, yet she cannot, for the sake of it, keep her mouth shut when need be, nor retain a shed of courtesy towards others, much less her employer.

I couldn't get past chapter 2 due to that reason.

While, yes, I do like strong heroines, Mrs. Child has -in my opinion- confused the lines of "strong" and "obnoxious" for this one.

Here's the outline:

Castle is used as a hotel. Hotel makes losses for years because the owner isn't interested in change. Brady, our hero, and his business partners buy the castle to transform it into a theme-park sort of hotel for fans of their celtic themed video games.
Because they appreciate the management that's been done by her over the years and to keep the current staff on board, they fly her in from Ireland to the US on a private yet and park her in a top hotel (all expenses paid by them) to have a nice, long explaining session and get her on top of things with what they expect etc.
So shortly before the meeting we get this paragraph:

" “Aye,” her mother agreed. “(...) Now, you’ll have your meeting with the new owner of the castle soon, won’t you?”
"

I seriously wanted to smash her face at that point already.

Apparently the castle's been bringing in a huge minus for the past few years, yet Aine got an attitude a mile high, instead of bowing down to Brady for wanting to keep all the employees and -apparently- paying her to do slack (as she's been in the loop for the past months as she whines about it).
Has this arrogant child of a woman any idea how much others would give to be in her shoes?!
It's not rare for employees to be fired asap when a property or business changes owners, especially if they do not proceed with business-matter for months. Yet missy is complaining. Seriously?! Get a reality-check, quick!

So after being paid for lazing her arse off back home, then being brought in by private jet first-class and fetched off the airport by a chauffeur, she is already non-plussed by the terrible behaviour of her employer.
Then comes the shock: Brady sends a car to get her from the hotel, because he's been held up and cannot meet her there, as planned before.
Now missy gets her claws out.

How dare that infernal man be late for their meeting and how dare he send a car to get her (to an office building that's only like 2 blocks away between, so once again missy is treated with satin gloves)?!
But now she's a real lady, so...

"
"Thankfully, flying on a private jet hadn’t left her looking as haggard as surviving a twelve-hour flight in economy would have. So she would go now to meet the man who clearly expected his underlings to leap into motion when he spoke. And she would, even if it killed her, keep her temper.
"

Here's "keeping her cool" the Aine-way:

Brady's naturally impressed by how superb she looks in the flesh and is trying to be polite, yet stay matter-of-fact to keep everything strictly business.

"
“How was your flight?” he blurted out, wanting to steer the conversation into the banal so his mind would have nothing else to torment him with.
“Lovely, thanks,” she said shortly and lifted her chin a notch. “Is that what we’re to talk about, then? My flight? My hotel? I wonder that you care what I think. Perhaps we could speak instead about the fact that twice now you’ve not showed the slightest interest in keeping your appointments with me.”
Brady sat back, surprised at her nerve. Not many employees would risk making their new boss angry. “Twice?”
“You sent a car for me at the airport and again at the hotel.” She folded her hands neatly atop her knee. If she was uneasy about speaking her mind, she didn’t show it.
He merely looked at her for a long moment before saying, “Was there something wrong with the car service?”
“Not at all. But I wonder why a man who takes the trouble to fly his hotel manager halfway across the world can’t be bothered to cross the street and walk a block to meet her in person.”
"

Really?! The man makes professional small-talk and she kicks him against the shin for it so to speak and nags him about his impolite treatment of her?!

But then her inner peace-maker comes to the rescue and reminds her that she's responsible not only for herself, but that the entire village relies on the touristic incomes made of the castle's guests.

"
Trying to distract herself, Aine admitted that not only was the man himself unexpected, but his office was, as well. (...) And it gave her just a bit of hope for the castle—if this man’s company could modernize an old building such as this and maintain its character, perhaps they could do the same with Castle Butler, too.
With that thought firmly in mind, Aine settled into the uncomfortable chair, swallowed her pride like a bitter pill and forced herself to say, “I’ll apologize for biting your head off first thing.”
His eyebrows arched, but he didn’t speak, so Aine continued on in a rush—before he could open his mouth to say, “You’re fired.”
“It’s the jet lag, I’m sure, that’s put me in a mood.” Though she wasn’t at all tired, she would reach for the most understandable excuse.
“Of course,” he said, though it was clear from his tone he wasn’t buying that. “And I’ll apologize for not meeting you personally. We’re very busy right now, with one game being released this week and the next due out in December.”
"

Once again, Brady's being the gentleman here and going out of his way to be pleasant to her.
He goes on explaining how he'd like to talk with her about the coming changes etc over the next few days and she acts aloof, like it was her castle and any changes were subject to her approval being given.
Brady tries going easy on her and invites her to dinner to get more comfortable.
Missy is unimpressed and demands to change before dinner (really?! You're having a business dinner and cannot go there, like everyone normal, with your business clothes?!).
Over food she belittles Brady's company's work as being worthless (while she also insults every game-player out there by comparing them to beings much like neanderthals) and tries to dictate him her way. She wants her local people to work on the reconstruction. And she dislikes his theme for the interior restyling. And she's worried about what will become of her castle and her village.

Sorry - That woman would not last a single day in a paid employment as she posses neither common sense nor courtesy. She behaves like everyone should dance to her tune and as if it were a crime against nature to be opposing her or her ideals in any way.

She deserves a good round of smacks and a reality-check. She's neither nice, nor polite, nor does she privately posses a fortune to make people more amendable towards her nor does she retain a position business-wise that would allow her to act like such a b****. She should be fired and then tared and feathered by her folks back home for biting the hand that tried feeding them.

She had a loving family; he grew up in the foster system. They are both dancing around each other but a nice walk leads to a kiss but he puts a stop to it but not for to long.

This is the first book in a new series Pregnant by the Boss series by Ms. Child. I love Ms. Child’s writing and how every word flows smoothly. The pace of this story is perfect and the storyline intriguing. I love reading stories about men who are insure about starting a relationship because of their past. When I usually read a story it’s the woman character that is ready to run not ready to recognize that what they are feeling is love. In this story it’s him that ends up sending her away and when she tells him how it is I never felt so proud of her. I knew sooner of later he would see that he was in love with her but I knew it was going to take time and lots of good advice.

Brady Finn and Aine Donovan only recently met because of the last business transaction in which she is the manager of the castle that him and his business partner’s bought. These two men are also like brothers to him and his family. Aine was not supposed to be in California for 3 weeks but in order for the renovations of the castle to be done she needed to be there. They had instant chemistry but both of them are trying not to pay attention to that but the chemistry can’t be denied for to long. One of the Ryan brothers, Mike, knows that there is something between him and Aine but then again he keeps saying that there is nothing between him and Jenny. The more time that Aine and Brady the more that the passion between them grows and then it happens they end up making love but when it is over Brady ends up sticking his foot in his mouth. I love that Aine is not afraid to say what she wants or what she is feeling and she gives it to him. I couldn’t believe Brady and his coward behavior, offering her more money and telling her to leave and especially after knowing that they had unprotected sex. He is going to regret that sooner or later, 5 months later.

Having Her Boss’s Baby was a wonderful read. I enjoyed the characters and the banter between all of them even the Ryan brothers. The setting of the story was beautiful and the description of the castle sounded lovely even though they were creating it for the guests that loved their game. Brady ends up opening up to Aine and lets her know about his past and how his mother left him and Aine does the same. Brady is going to have to think long and hard about him being able to make a family with his son and the woman he loves. He is a good man all he needs to do is see that he can be a father and he is able to tell Aine that he loves her.

I recommend this read!! I can’t wait for Mike and Jenny’s story next.

I am really undecided by Having Her Boss's Baby and I cannot explain why. I have thought about it and tried to put my finger on what was driving my feelings about this book. I loved reading about the Irish countryside. I loved reading about the castle and how Brady and The Ryans were redesigning the castle to fit into the story line of one of their video games. The characters in Ireland were colorful and I could hear their accents in my head as I read the book. The wording of the conversations with the Irish characters read true to the dialect. But, there was something and I cannot put my finger on it. Something that keeps me between a 3.5 and 4 stars. We meet Brady and learn about why he is so standoffish with strangers and reserved even with the two people he is closest to but, I'm missing something and cannot determine what I caused me to determine something was missing. I would bet that other readers will not see that. It is likely one of my idiosyncrasies for when I am reading a book. Notwithstanding that, even reading the descriptions of the IT people and the designers that work at the video gaming company was interesting. The descriptions of where the company was located in California was great and the comparisons between there and Ireland was also interesting. Maybe this is where things were a bit off for me. I liked Brady and Aine okay, but, I did not love them, not even as a couple. Aine's family was great and her personality was strong and believable. But, I guess if I had to pick two people to put together maybe those two would not be it. Maybe I would have picked Mike Ryan for her instead. The writing is great and the characters are developed well but my chemistry with the book was a bit off.

I thought the book started off slow, and was hard for me to get interested in. Brady, and his two co workers, and good friends owned a very successful video game design company. The company itself is branching out, adding a toy line, and then they bought a Castle/ hotel in Ireland. They have plans to turn the hotel into a castle that is like the one in one of the games. They want to have a area for roll playing. Brady sent a private jet to fly the hotel manager to the states for her input. I really liked Aine. she was a strong heroine, with red hair, and a temper to go along with it. She had several guest that came back year after year. She wanted to keep the hotel a place those guest would still enjoy coming back to. I love the detailed description about Ireland. There was sparks from the beginning between Brandy, and Aine. They played it professional for awhile. Brady never fell for anyone. He had a wall up around his heart. He was in foster care as a child. Never having a family, or anyone to love him, he never took the chance of getting hurt. Well.... the one steamy night they let passion explode, left Aine pregnant. She thought he wouldn't want to know. So for 5 months she kept it from him. He was mad when he found out. Now that he knows, will he go after the one thing he has always wanted, or walk away? You'll have to read and find out.

The start of a new trilogy? Count me in with these gamers turned hoteliers! Brady is smart. (check) Brady is sexy. (check) Brady is rich. (I'm shallow so-check)

Aine has been summoned to meet the new owners of her castle hotel. They sent a private plane for her which annoys more than impresses. Brady and his co-owners are planning to open destination hotels based on their popular fantasy games. Aine is worried about the plan and how her community will fare with so many changes to the hundreds year old traditional castle. Spending a few weeks in one-on-one time with her boss is bound to lead to something a little more personal. What will a man with no family-ties do when faced with a baby?

With two more stories on the way, I am hooked. December can't come soon enough for Mike and Jenny's story.

Brady is a dark haired attractive guy who can get any women he wants. Brady owned a successful company and decided to branch out by buying a castle hotel in Ireland. The plan is to renovate the hotel and turn it into a theme hotel and for the renovation, he requested the current hotel manager to meet him.

Aine is a fiery Irishwoman who wasn’t happy with the way Brady handle the take over. Worst still she doesn’t think Brady give her the due respect.

However, matter become complicated when both of them attracted to each other from the moment they met. Aine knew that a relationship with her new boss is a bad idea and it wont go anywhere with the distance between them.

Brady’s character come across as someone who keep his emotions. He doesn’t know what a family function and he don’t believe he will ever have one himself. Aine on the other hand, is a believer of love. Overall, It is a sweet story albeit a predictable one.

It was ok, but wouldn't want to re-read.

The hero wasn't horrible, he didn't say the right things at times, but he wasn't a jerk (like Mike in the second book). The heroine was ok, she was strong and at the end wouldn't settle for less than love from hero.

Not sure they would have ended up together but for the baby. I lean towards yes for the fact he went to Ireland not knowing she was pregnant after 5 months of missing her. However him planning to divorce after the baby was born because he didn't know how to be in a family makes me question that he would have chosen to be with heroine and conciouly making decision to have kids if the reality of a baby wasn't enough for him to chose to be with her (he had to have several people talk to him into it). I still think he would have have chosen to be with heroine, but not as quickly, probably several more months and seperations til he realized it. P.

This was a really great read. I enjoy the oops factor in some of the stories, were clashing turns into surprised loving & a surprise bundle in the end. This story had such a great set of characters, mainly Aine who was strong, sassy, opinionated as well as sweet, cute & loving. Brady was determined, sexy & scarred from a sad childhood. Butting heads at ever turn turns into passion neither expected & secret consequences result, until they’re not so secret. Author Maureen Child shows us how love can breakdown barriers believed to be permanent & how a wee little surprise can change the direction of one persons life for the better. Definitely recommend.

Aine came to California to meet with the new owners of the hotel. Brady didn't have relationships. He said he couldn't risk failing. But he didn't expect Aine.... After a romp in the sheets, he sends her back to Ireland. When he goes to her, he doesn't realize what he is feeling.

Occasionally I need a fluffy book with no apocalypses and death. This surprisingly respectful romance fit the bill.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review and here it is.

Let me preface this review with two statements. First, I've been a fan of this author for decades, and second, Ireland is my favorite place on the planet, so reading this ARC was a pleasure, from Aine's Irish brogue to the descriptions of the beautiful Irish countryside.

Brady is a billionaire video game entrepreneur, planning with his partners to turn a castle in Ireland into a destination resort which will be an offshoot of one of their video games. Aine is the current manager of the castle/hotel he and his two partners purchase, and they first meet when he flies to her to California to discuss the upcoming renovations. In both her description and manner, Aine reminded me of Maureen O'Hara in the classic film, The Quiet Man, a feisty Irish gal who says what she means, and means what she says. Brady, however, is more of a mystery. He's rather cold, closed-off and emotionally distant, claiming that he doesn't do the family thing. When these two meet, the attraction between them is instantaneous, but not welcomed by either of them, since he's her boss, and she'll soon be returning to Ireland. Of course, it's no surprise that these two give in to temptation, but only one of them is emotionally invested in more than a brief encounter.

The only thing that kept me from giving this novel 5 stars was Brady's lack of willingness to even consider that his attraction to Aine is more than merely physical. Some of his treatment of Aine, and her obvious growing attraction to him, was just plain rude, harsh, unfeeling and inconsiderate. Once he discovers that she's pregnant with his child, his treatment of her is not only rude, but offensive. While I can understand her love for a man who is emotionally stunted, his reluctance to consider a long-term relationship with her, and his post-pregnancy offer to her would have been a deal-breaker for me. To say more would entail spoilers.

All in all, I liked this book a lot, and I'm looking forward to reading the next two novels in what appears to be the beginning of a trilogy featuring Brady's two business partners.

Brady Finn works for a gaming company that is turning an old castle into a theme-hotel in Ireland. He invites Aine Donovan, the hotel-manager to California in order to work out the details. These two clash, they mix like oil and water, but apparently there's some crazy attraction that neither of them control. She ends up pregnant and returns to Ireland. He shows up 5 months later and realizes she's pregnant and sets about trying to get her to marry him, even though he has no intention of sticking around.

I like this author and I liked the concept of this book, but I did not enjoy the characters or their relationship. Brady was cold. Yes he vulnerability and insecurities regarding love, but he was rude, often emotionless and his fears of getting too close to someone caused him to lash out viciously at the heroine. Aine was a cool enough heroine. She's no pushover that's for sure. But I couldn't figure out why these two would even want to be together. He's domineering and bossy and she just fights him on everything. And his actions after he slept with her, despite the fact that he was in panic mode, were awful. And he never even apologized for it. I couldn't honestly buy into the idea that they loved each other because he'd been so awful to her and she, not being a doormat, should have demanded groveling.

Also, I couldn't understand Brady's justifications for marriage or even for insisting on being a part of his child's life when he simply intends to walk out of it anyway. One second he acted like all he needed to do was marry Aine and then divorce her, then all he needs to do is give them money and live separately from them, but he still keeps insisting that she should have told him about the pregnancy so he could be apart of his son's life. That made no sense to me, especially given his family issues. I am a bit curious about Mike and Jenny's story - I might give it a try, but hopefully the relationship is a little less argumentative than this one (though it's not setting up to be that way).

This is my first book by Maureen Child. I adored it! It's a sweet little romance that has nothing dark or dreary it was refreshing.

Brady and his team buy a castle in Ireland, to turn into a theme hotel that goes along with their video game empire. Brady requests that Aine, the young woman that has been managing the hotel come to his offices in California to discuss the changes that are forthcoming. Aine, reluctantly travels to the other side of the earth, knowing the one thing that will not happen is turning her castle into a tacky theme park.

When she arrives and isn't met by Brady she is instantly enraged and feels disrespected. So, being the fiery Irish lass that she is the sparks start to fly immediately. The business woman in her knows that she should ignore the feelings that she starts to have for Brady, but the woman in her doesn't want to be denied.

Brady, is a man in control. He doesn't do relationships and having never known a family of his own, doesn't know how to love. The two fight the attraction for as long as possible and then boom! The clothes fly and caution is thrown to the wind. After, what she feels is another rejection she returns to the castle in Ireland to oversee the renovations and move on with her life. Well, she soon finds out that that night left her with a little something else (a baby!).

When Brady relises that Aine is having his baby, he is hurt and tries to make amends and do his duty. Aine is having none of it. If she can't have his love she doesn't want his money or his duty as a father. I loved watching things develop and seeing how Brady matures and how Aine shows him that he is much more a man then he thinks he is.

Ms. Child's tale of castle's and Ireland are lovely. It's obvious she has done her research on the area and being a bit of a gamer in my youth it was fun to see what goes into making and developing games as well. I can't wait to read the next in the series. If you are in the market for a light HEA Romance then this one is a keeper!

I do not even know where to begin.....

This book was rough to finish. This is the first book in my entire life that I have EVER struggled to finish. I did not even struggle this much to read 500 page text books in high school!
This little 184 page book was not as interesting as I thought it would have been. I have heard a lot of good things about Maureen Child but honestly was not impressed. The story is was caught my attention and the story was actually cute. I just feel it could have been a little bit more in detail and less "rushed".

Yes, I know these books are not supposed to be all that long but I feel that at least the two major scenes should have been more involved in my personal opinion.

Scene 1: "The Sex Scene" was made up in what 2 1/2 pages? This was supposed to be the BIG PLOT. The part that makes the book interesting. This is when she gets pregnant by her boss (basically the name of the book) and i feel it was just thrown together.
Scene 2: "Finding out she is pregnant" 1 1/2 pages of a quick conversation. I thought the HARLEQUIN books were about "desire" and drama. It definatly does not come off this way to me.

I doubt I will be purchasing another book from HARLEQUIN but we shall see. I was thoroughly disappointed.

An enjoyable read! You are introduced to Brady Finn, and to see him on the surface he comes off as some rich mogul who cares about making money and is standoffish and cold to all he meets, very single minded in work, work, work. But then when you see him interact with his business partners, Mike and Sean Ryan, and you see what a brother-like relationship the three of them have together, you see a softer side. And then in walks Aine Donovan. She's the Manager of the hotel the partners have just bought in Ireland. The second she and Brady meet, there are sparks. They are attracted to each other instantly, and seem to irritate each other just as quickly. They fight their feelings for each other for weeks while they work on the remodel plans for the hotel, growing closer every day, and then one night, they give in to their passion. She heads back to Ireland almost immediately after, and when he goes to visit several months later, he learns he's going to be a Daddy.

Will he learn how to have a true relationship even though he feels like he's never known love? Will she learn how to reach through and break down the stone wall he has built around his heart?

When Aine flies to California to meet with her new bosses she never expects to find herself in a situation that no one can win. Aine and Brady's attraction is obvious, but both know that any kind of attraction between them is not feasible to act on. Aine is there protect the interests of "her" castle, not to find a man. Plus how could she ever have a relationship with a man who controls his emotions so tightly.

Brady cannot deny his attraction to Aine, but he has a rule about getting involved with his employees. As him and Aine spend more and more time together he has a hard time controlling those feelings. He is happy with his sterile life with no strings attached and Aine is definitely the kind of woman that has strings attached. But when the attraction gets more than they can handle he losses control.

Now five months later he is headed to Ireland to check in on the hotel reservation and see Aine. The reception is not what he expected and when he finds out that she has been lying to him for five months, he is not happy. Can he let go of his past enough to grab a hold of his future. Great story. Looking forward to the next in the series.

This was a DNF for me. I think the title and blurb were fairly misleading. It was over 100 pages into the book after a very slow start that the hero and heroine had unprotected sex, then 5 months later they reunite in Ireland and he discovers she's pregnant. By this time, there was only about a third of the book left. I was expecting much more of the book to focus on the pregnancy, but it had a heavy focus on the business and their meeting in America, and working on the hotel together. I was also a bit frustrated that after they had unprotected sex, the heroine says not to worry until there's something to worry about, yet the whole first 50 pages or so, are her worrying over what might happen with the castle where she works before she knows what the hero's plans are for it. I won't be continuing with this series.
