World-renowned medium Carmel Joy Baird shares the powerful story of how she overcame extreme panic and anxiety to break a cycle of abuse and find a life of freedom, forgiveness, and love. From childhood Carmel heard and saw things that nobody else did. Fearful and full of shame for what she thought made her “crazy,” she justified being abused and began to lose all believe in her own self worth. When Carmel finally accepted the truth of spirits, she was able to use her gift of speaking to the dead to help thousands of people worldwide, but first she had to help herself.
Join Carmel on the roller-coaster journey that made her the person and healer that she is today, and learn how you, too, can turn your shame into power and love. By embarking on this path, you will gain a better grasp on what lies behind your shame, as well as a firmer understanding of yourself and your own truth, and how to live in love and in light.
I think my hopes may have been set too high for this one. It really only got to spiritual matters in the last quarter of the book while the rest was a struggle to read her make the same mistakes over and over again. I get where she was trying to go with her stating she thinks she had to experience abusive relationships to get her where she is today... but I didn't really agree with it and I think she didn't build a foundation to even guide other women who may be going through the same thing, which I think should be kind of established if you are going to talk about it for three quarters of a book. She just escaped into another relationship.
The title is a bit misleading because it doesn't get into her spirit connection until the very end. A lot of the back and forth of her relationship dramas could have been trimmed down and/or made a separate book. Overall, not what I was anticipating or hoping for, but interesting to see a different perspective on how a medium made it through life, anxiety and various issues to get where she is.
Y’know, this book wasn’t what I expected, but when I finished it, I’m so glad that I read it. The first half of the book, I was getting annoyed because it was only about this woman’s life (who’s show I’d never seen and I’d never heard of her). It didn’t turn into a book about spirituality or spirit until the very end. However, I still couldn’t put it down. And by the time I reached the last 50 pages of the book, her words carried much more power and resonance than a book that is strictly about personal development or self-help. It had more meaning. When I read the last page and closed the book, I felt an immense sense of peace and completion, and felt like I had been taken on a beautiful journey that really touched my heart. Thank you, Carmel, for having the bravery to share the good, the bad, and the ugly about your life! <3
I liked the book but some what hard to prod through at times as this woman born into chaos keeps finding a need to recreate chaos to feel normal?? ... However, she does finally get there which gives us insight into our own lives and decision making and how we all fall into the trap of our "normal".
One word: Love! Loved the way she told her story to the world so we don't have to feel alone in what we go through! Her book opened up my whole world as I figure out my own journey with understanding my own gifts!
Shew. Going through Carmel's ups and downs gave me anxiety. In the end you can feel the peacefulness. Highly recommend. Makes me think of some of my family members and wonder!
I gave this book 5 stars because it exceeded my expectations. You never know how an autobiography is going to turn out, and I was blown away by Carmel's tumultous story and her courage to share it with the world. Her mistakes, actions, and the past that haunted her were all beautifully written with grace and good humour. For those souls out there like mine, that are taunted by anxiety, panic, and fear, please read Carmel's story. It helps to know that other people out there have gone through abusive relationships, and have survived because they fought their way to peace. What an incredible journey. Definitely going to read again.
