We all come from the sea and back to the sea we will go. The Mediterranean gave birth to the world. Step into the shoes of those whose job it is to enforce our harsh new an Italian coastguard and a payday lender from Leeds. How do they do it? And what happens to them? Lampedusa is a powerful play about immigration and welfare. “I wrote that the monkey trap experiment is fundamentally an indicator of hope. It speaks to our ability to walk away from delusions, from traps. To save ourselves from our based instincts.
Me last line, and I can’t believe I actually wrote this hippy shit but fuck it, was ‘Perhaps the ultimate purpose of the experiment is for the monkeys to teach us something.’”

really touching - by having the two speakers be almost a step removed from the immigration it creates a great entryway for your traditional theatre audience to become involved and emotionally invested as the migrants are humanised and sympathised for by these western characters.

Very strong, powerful point of view. Especially the character of Denise, sharp and real!
