Kentaro Miura

In 1976, at the early age of 10, Miura made his first Manga, entitled "Miuranger", that was published for his classmates in a school publication; the manga ended up spanning 40 volumes. In 1977, Miura created his second manga called Ken e no michi (剣への道 The Way to the Sword), using Indian ink for the first time. When he was in middle school in 1979, Miura's drawing techniques improved greatly as he started using professional drawing techniques. His first dōjinshi was published, with the help of friends, in a magazine in 1982.
That same year, in 1982, Miura enrolled in an artistic curriculum in high school, where he and his classmates started publishing their works in school booklets, as well as having his first dōjinshi published in a fan-produced magazine. In 1985, Miura applied for the entrance examination of an art college in Nihon University. He submitted Futanabi for examination and was granted admission. This project was later nominated Best New Author work in Weekly Shōnen Magazine. Another Miura manga Noa was published in Weekly Shōnen Magazine the very same year. Due to a disagreement with one of the editors, the manga was stalled and eventually dropped altogether. This is approximately where Miura's career hit a slump.
In 1988, Miura bounced back with a 48-page manga known as Berserk Prototype, as an introduction to the current Berserk fantasy world. It went on to win Miura a prize from the Comi Manga School. In 1989, after receiving a doctorate degree, Kentarou started a project titled King of Wolves (王狼, ōrō?) based on a script by Buronson, writer of Hokuto no Ken. It was published in the monthly Japanese Animal House magazine in issues 5 and 7 of that year.
In 1990, a sequel is made to Ourou entitled Ourou Den (王狼伝 ōrō den, The Legend of the Wolf King) that was published as a prequel to the original in Young Animal Magazine. In the same year, the 10th issue of Animal House witnesses the first volume of the solo project Berserk was released with a relatively limited success. Miura again collaborated with Buronson on manga titled Japan, that was published in Young Animal House from the 1st issue to the 8th of 1992, and was later released as a stand-alone tankōbon. Miura's fame grew after Berserk was serialized in Young Animal in 1992 with the release of "The Golden Age" story arc and the huge success of his masterpiece made of him one of the most prominent contemporary mangakas. At this time Miura dedicates himself solely to be working on Berserk. He has indicated, however, that he intends to publish more manga in the future.
In 1997, Miura supervised the production of 25 anime episodes of Berserk that aired in the same year on NTV. Various art books and supplemental materials by Miura based on Berserk are also released. In 1999, Miura made minor contributions to the Dreamcast video game Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage. 2004 saw the release of yet another video game adaptation entitled Berserk Millennium Falcon Arc: Chapter of the Record of the Holy Demon War.
Since that time, the Berserk manga has spanned 34 tankōbon with no end in sight. The series has also spawned a whole host of merchandise, both official and fan-made, ranging from statues, action figures to key rings, video games, and a trading card game. In 2002, Kentarou Miura received the second place in the Osamu Tezuka Culture Award of Excellence for Berserk.[1]

So, reading slowly these days (Because i started playing a very addictive game) but still going at a pretty good pace, instead of finishing in 2 days, i did it on three.
Amazing volume that tells us, the last of the lost children chapter, and the beginning of binding chain chapter too.
Guts proved one more time in this volume that, he is not just a berserker, someone who fights without using his brain, who is using his anger, and hatred, He got out of a pretty tight situation, when all the demonic elves where eating away at him slowly, by dashing into the fire, thus burning all of them! and himself, and then striking a hole into a cocoon to extinguish the fire with the liquids inside!
Another issue that this volume made me think about is the evil in these apostles, So now you have a human who gets handed an egg, that transforms him into a demon, when he loses all hope, and his life is unbearable, And after transforming, they don't really know what's happening to them, they feel like in a haze, like Griffith when he got shown that dream to convince him, that this is what he wants, even though he will be one of the god-hand not a lowly apostle.
Also like the little girl, who was thinking all the time, that she is an elf, and she is happy in her elf land, and all that, It makes me wonder are they really evil, being cheated into being apostles, and god-hand, when they didn't really embrace that evil?
Its almost like that religious belief, that says that people who take their own lives will go to hell, Someone who's life is miserable, and who cant go on anymore, and kills himself which is a pretty hard thing to do, and they go to hell? If there is a god, i don't believe that he is that cruel, or cruel at all really.
The Holy see is an interesting religious organization, i want to find out more about them, and about their revelation, that foresaw the hawk of darkness, and all the things that are happening, since the eclipse.

Ugh. I wish I had any sympathy to spare for Rosine or the demon kids but I’m actually glad they’re finally done for. Farnese is an annoying ass righteous bitch who knows nothing about anything. Bye. Guts is amazing. Puck is a cutie. Serpico got me intrigued and the whole holy iron chain knights’ objective seems shady as hell to me. Who knows what happens next.
P.S. man, I really miss Griffith’s traitorous ass. 😪 He’s a villain but that doesn’t make him any less of a fascinating character.

Things have been kinda dull since book 14 if I’m being honest. It’ll be interesting to see if these side quests have any importance upon the plot as a whole.

Rosine goes down like a sad little badass, Jill becomes a whole lot stronger from her ordeal of death and bloodshed and horror, and Guts's rejection of her as a companion is one of the best speeches the manga has to offer.
Empathy and kindness have begun gnawing back into his heart, after many long years of battle, but he's still a pretty grim guy. It's going to take a good while more before he's all done with that. But we'll get there.
On the other hand, the Holy See always felt like the single most tacked-in concept in the entire Berserk for me. That's not to say it's bad in any way, it's just that it's one of those big all-encompassing organizations that by all right should have come up in the story before now. But I don't recall a single church or priest before the end of the whole Band of the Hawk flashback, and for all I know, Miura only came up with it very recently. That's a bit of a shame.
Still, though, it drives the story very well for a while from here on, and kickstarts quite possibly the single best and most complete bit of character growth in the entire story, barring maybe Guts himself. Not to mention leading to a few badass moments in captivity for him, so those are always fun.

Okay, this is more like it. The wrap up to the Lost Children chapter was fantastic and I'm excited for the Binding Chain chapter.

SUPER FAST REVIEW:
Pretty solid volume for sure!
First of all the story here is fucking amazing as always! The art is also absolutely great! Also gotta say, is anything this full of gory action and creepy horror stuff while not being 100% horror? I mean seriously, this series is FULL of things that will excite fans of horror and/or fantasy action scenes.
My only problem with this volume is that I was confused by a few bits. Don’t get me wrong, I got MOST of the story (like, at least 95% of it), just thought the writing wasn’t the top-notch level it’s usually at.
Overall, still a pretty great and bad-ass volume of Berserk!

آرک کوتاه لاست چیلدرن هم تموم شد. در حدی که ازش تعریف شنیده بودم، نبود با این حال دو سه تا پنل درجه یک و مهم در رابطه با گاتس و شخصیتپردازیش داشت که همونها باعث شد ستاره چهارمی هم پررنگ بشه.

I love the contrast of inhuman strength and emotional and physical vulnerability in Guts. He can be very gentle and nurturing but will also kill five soldiers with one sweep of his sword. He rarely walks out of battle unscathed and I think that’s what I admire most about him as he’s no untouchable god of war but fucks up and gets hurt and barely makes it out haha f certain situations. I’m glad the lost children arc is over as I personally found it mediocre in comparison to previous arcs, but I like the direction the story went in. I liked that we got to explore the motivations of certain characters without it feeling like a cheap excuse. As always: brilliant art, Puck is a sweetie and Guts is phenomenal.

This was another cool one, its pretty much the battle between that elf-human and Guts and its bloody and we get some flashback between her and Jill and their deep friendship, but Guts then slicing and dicing her and like a fairytale she keeps escaping and tells about the past and escapes into the night and then it features the battle between the Holy see knights and Guts and they want him and the battle is something but he is too tired and gets captured and tortured. The new story arc begins!

Amazing climax to the Lost Children arc. One of the best fights so far, with Miura pulling out all the stops on the art, with a beautiful ending reinforcing one of the major themes of the manga as a whole, but in relation to a different character. All this to say that while Guts is fighting his own battle, others are fighting their own battles in different ways. It was a little diversion, some may even call it filler, but while I critiqued the beginning of this arc for not doing anything new or moving the story forward meaningfully, it managed to do just that at the very end, and very impactfully so, making it all worth the ride and ultimately resulting in some much needed growth for Puck and Guts' relationship.
After that, the focus shifts from demons to humans, starting the Binding Chain arc (or "chapter" as mini-arcs are referred to in Berserk). It's off to a good start so far, with some immediately compelling characters and interesting changes in dynamics, as well as what appears to be a different take on what religion means in the world of Berserk, especially in light of the fact that demons and, presumably, God exist. Miura finally has Guts do some significant development since the Eclipse arc as the black swordsman finally manifests the beast and Berserk becomes a fitting moniker. The resolution of the Rosine story was fittingly dark for an arc involving the abuse of children but also a child's innocence manifesting as evil. The introduction of the Holy Chain knights and the moving of Guts into a different arc and social dynamic was a welcome change. Lots of suspense here.

This really felt like a slog. While we get some backstory on Guts's famous mechanical arm and trademark massive sword, the main arc dealing with his first encounters with demons attracted to his cursed rune leave a lot to be desired.
Guts's runs across a small town haunted by fairies from the Misty Valley. The fairies have a penchant for stealing the town's children. Guts's discovers that the leader of the fairies was once a child from the village herself, enamored of a childhood story about a child saved by fairy magic that recovers from tragedy among the fair folk. Seeking to escape her abusive home, Roshinu (Rosine) becomes an Apostle and the master of her own demented fairy kingdom. Guts pursues the fairies into the Misty Valley, confronting his first Apostle since the ceremony in which Griffith ascended.
Honestly the best parts of this involved the development of Guts's complex character. Brutal, savage, yet compassionate, he's a walking contradiction. It might sound like inconsistent character building, but Miura makes it work and builds a mystique around his central character that propels you forward, even through some rather boring storytelling.
I'm kind of questioning if it's worth it to continue this series at this point. Is there a reason that only The Golden Age arc has ever been adapted to film/tv? Is it the only really good arc? I have to believe that the story continues to get improved simply because of the longevity of the series. We'll see.

This is the 16th volume in the Berserk series and finishes the story arc involving The Misty Valley, Jill, and the Queen of Elves. The Queen of Elves’ true background is also revealed.
Guts gets beat up pretty bad during his battle with the Queen of Elves and is immediately set upon by the Holy Iron Chain Knights lead by Lady Farnese. After winning a duel with one of their knights, Guts is beset upon by multiple knights and ends up captured.
The illustration continues to be very well done. This volume was very violent and gory, just like previous volumes. There were some awesome fight scenes between both Guts and the Queen of Elves and Guts and the Holy Iron Chain Knights. There was tons of action in this volume but not as much story development.
Overall this was a great continuation of this series. I prefer a little more story development than was here, but there were a lot of great action scenes. I would recommend to mature readers who enjoy fantasy horror manga.

این جلد واقعا شاهکار بود و من خیلی دوستش داشتم و جز جلد های تاپ برزرک از نظر من قرار می گیره.. . فایت بین ملکه الف های پیرکاف و گاتس خیلی هیجان انگیز بود و تصویر متفاوتی رو از گاتس نشون می داد که خیلی خفن بود و توی این جلد ارک کوتاه کودکان گم شده به اتمام می رسه و ارک جدیدی به نام اسارت در زنجیر که حول محور شوالیه های زنجیر مقدس می گرده و داستان اونا و گاتس رو بیان میکنه و فکر کنم که ارک کوتاهی باشه...آرتش مثل همیشه عالی و پر جزییات بود و ازش خیلی لذت بردم...یک صحبتی هم دارم با کسایی که میگن این جلد خیلی مزخرف و حال بهم زن و زجر اور بود و در جواب این سری از افراد باید بگم که برزرک مجموعه ای نیست که بیای باهاش بخندی مجموعه ایه که درد واقعی رو بهت نشون میده و اشکت رو در میاره پس چه بهتره که به جای این که هیت بدیم به این شاهکار که باعث زده شدن کسایی که هنوز نخوندن نشیم و نظرمونو برای خودمون نگه داریم.... حتما این شاهکار رو بخونین...

The Lost Children arc comes to a satisfying and grisly end. Almost immediately, a new, and infinitely more interesting storyline starts up, in which Guts is hunted down by a group of Holy Knights led by a young woman named Commander Farnese. Anyway, not much to say besides the usual - great art work and highly entertaining story!

خوب رسیدم به هدف سالانهام که احتمال بالایی میدادم نرسم بهش.
واقعا یکی از فریکترین ارکای برسرکه الفهای دره مهالود. اینکه هیولاها و شیاطین چنین جنبههای قوی انسانیای دارن برای من خیلی جذابه، چنین بکاستوریای برای یکی از سرسختترین دشمنای گاتس دلم رو میشکنه.
ارک بعدی رو دوست ندارم ولی.

Really missing the Guts-Casca-Griffith character drama that drove the golden age arc. Pluck is great, the kids were boring and I never really got invested in this storyline. Hope it picks up in the next leg of the conviction arc.

آرک کودکان گمشده با وجود طراحیهای ناب و نتیجهگیری نهاییش، مملو از کلیشهها بود و در نهایت حتی دلیل خاصی برای وجود داشتنش به چشمم نخورد. این آرک به دوتا شخصیتی که همینجا معرفی شده بودن پرداخت و نشون داد چطور تغییر کردن. منتها چیز خاصی در مسیر گاتس و پاک ایجاد نشد و بعیده اون دو شخصیت رو بار دیگه توی داستان ببینیم. برای همین حس میکنم اگر مستقیم از گولدن ایج به این چپترهای شوالیههای مذهبی میپریدیم هم مشکلی ایجاد نمیشد. مخصوصاً که این شوالیهها بابت اعمال گذشتهی گاتس به تعقیبش بودن و نه صرف اتفاقات این آرک.
