Ronald Stuart Thomas (1913-2000) (otherwise stylised as R.S. Thomas) was a Welsh poet and Anglican priest who was noted for his nationalism, spirituality and deep dislike of the anglicisation of Wales.

تنقلات المراحل الشعرية للشاعر جميلة جدا، إذ ثمة تغير ملحوظ في كتاباته الشعرية و توجهاته في كل مرحلة، بما فيذ لك المراحل الاخيرة من حياته حيث كان توجهاته تدور حول الآله

انتهيت من قراءة كتاب ( الحقل المُضيء)
الكتاب الذي كان يحمل سيرة ذاتية ومجموعة لأشعار الشاعر رونالد ستيوارت توماس كانت مجموعة قصائده تحمل حنينه إلى وطنه ( ويلز ) كان يرسم لنا لوحة فنية نستطيع رؤيتها من خلال قصائده لوحة تصف جمال طبيعة ويلز الخضراء، إنعكاس الشمس على النهر ، لقاء الرياح مع أوراق الشجر ، صوت الطبيعة الخلابة وسحرها ، نلاحظ في أشعاره مدى تأثره بالشاعر الإنجليزي الرومانسي ووردزوورث كان يغلب عليه الطابع الديني أيضاً بأشعاره بحكم أنه كان شاعراً ويلزيًا وكاهنًا أنجليكانيًا اشتهر بقوميته وروحانيته وكراهيته العميقة للتطرف الإنجليزي في ويلز ، دافع عن لغته الويلشيه من الضياع في ظل محاولات الإنجليز المستمره لإلغائها ، ربما يكون إحتلال اللغة أصعب وأقسى على الإنسان من إحتلال الأرض !

I’ll be honest and say that I’m not at all familiar with the poetry of R S Thomas and only bought this because it had contributions from Simon Armitage and Gillian Clarke, two poets whom I hugely admire. There were a number of poems that I greatly enjoyed, but also others that did nothing for me whatsoever - so a mixed bag, really.

It’s worth saying that if, like me, you don’t speak Welsh, there are a number of poems in this book you won’t be able to read. It puzzles me why only a couple of the Welsh poems were translated. Surely it would have made sense to make all the poems readable to English speakers …
