DNF. I read through most of chapter nine before I gave up.

This is a romance novel without any romance. The emotional tension in every scene by both the major characters feels contrived. The heroine is inconsistant and not very likable (she loves making herself (and her husband) myserable and comes up with stupid reasons to hate her cinderella situation instead of embracing the new life she chose - one of money and power but she's too stupid to realize it.

The hero is flat and stereo typical (rich libertine lord who works as a spy for the home office) who fights the growing obsession he has with his wife.

The twist to this story is supposed to be some ancient curse on the heroine's family where any man she falls in love with will die - so she decides to show indifference which comes off as a snide hatred - which he did not deserve.

Ya know, after nine chapters, I was hoping she will fall and put the hero (and myself) out of his mysery...

"Desire" is the story of Lucian and Brynn. Lucian wants a son with all his soul, and when he meets Brynn the attraction between the two is palpable. So he takes advantage of the difficult financial situatuion her family his going throw and forces her to marry him. At first their marriage is for show but they can't keep their hands of each other.

But there's a curse running in Brynn's family that threaten's their possibility of becoming a family and loving each other without reservation..

Having loved Nicole Jordan's other works, I started this with such high expectations... only to find myself gravely disappointed. Oh, Jordan's usual formula was there: a beautiful heroine, a handsome hero who pines for her, and some steamy love scenes between them.

But the execution of that formula was just wrong. All the elements that made me love writer's books were terribly off balanced in Desire.

While I like heroes who are desperate for the heroine, Lucian just took that to a whole different and rather disturbing level. He was plain obsessed with her for the most part of the novel. It bordered on creepy, really, the extremely persistent way he pursued her. Heck, I like guys who pant after the heroine, but not in a Jack Nicholson way, because that's the impression that Lucian gave me. I could practically hear him say, "Here's Lucian".


And even during their marriage, his thoughts about her were weirdly intense.


The level of doubt and distrust in this novel was also too much for me. It was suffocating and toxic whenever Lucian would think shit like "Oh, will Brynn kill me?" And it seemed ridiculous that despite those doubts, he just went ahead and slept with her anyway. Ugh. And this was supposed to be one of England's premier spies?


I'm giving this 2 stars just because the story was intriguing enough to maintain my attention. The sex scenes, though empty, were hot and entertaining, too, so that's a plus. But aside from these, this didn't really have a lot to offer. It's empty and lacks substance. And that whole Gypsy curse thing was just weird.

Não sei porquê mas AMEI este livro, amei as personagens, amei as intrigas, amei todo o drama em volta da maldição e do mistério político e dos roubos. Acho que tudo foi na quantidade perfeita o que fez uma história maravilhosa que fiquei completamente apaixonada.

3 stelline e mezzo

Anche il terzo volume della serie (a suo tempo di successo) si conferma sulla linea dei primi due: piacevoli, con qualche guizzo di azione che non mi dispiace. ma con eroi maschili vecchio stampo, quei "seduttori" che oggi prenderemmo allegramente a pedate (o forse no?).
In realtà i volumi sono tutti autoconclusivi: l'unico punto d'incontro è che i protagonisti sono in qualche modo legati a una sorta di club di amiconi (leggi libertini) senza grandi problemi economici ed esistenziali.

Lord Lucien, ad esempio, vive senza legami, facendo il (solito) agente segreto per la Corona, anche se è ben consapevole del dovere di tramandare il titolo.
Quando vede (e resta a spiare: diciamo che nella sua arroganza pensa che l'universo gli giri intorno) una giovane ragazza fare il bagno ha un unico, umile, pensiero: ho trovato la ninfa a cui concederò l'onore di procreare i miei figli.
Dato che lui è un conte, mentre la famiglia di lei (tanti fratelli senza genitori) si arrabatta, il matrimonio si celebra nel giro di pochi giorni.
Tanto, ci penserà dopo a far cadere preda della passione la sua giovane sposa...

Per fortuna, in cotanta tristezza, la Jordan ci aggiunge una maledizione familiare (per cui tutti i maschi che conquistano le parenti di Brynn sono andati incontro a qualche incidente fatale), il contrabbando e vari intrighi che coinvolgono il nemico storico Lord Calibano (fronte francese) e la stessa Brynn.
In ogni caso, vedere Lucien con lo smalto appannato, tormentato dai dubbi del tradimento, è stata per me una sorta di cupa soddisfazione.
Escluse le scene d'amore (in cui lui è talmente tronfio e calato nella parte da farmi irritare), il romanzo è scorrevole e abbastanza vivace.

“O Desejo”, de Nicole Jordan, traz-nos mais uma sensual narrativa de fundo histórico, cuja acção decorre na Inglaterra do Século XIX.

Com início na belíssima região da Cornualha, terra de mistérios, maldições e contrabando, numa paisagem de sonho, encontramos aí a principal personagem feminina – Brynn Caldwell – uma beleza local, de flamejantes cabelos ruivos que irão enfeitiçar o belo, inteligente e obstinado Lord Lucian Tremayne, Conde de Wycliff.

Brynn vive julgando-se predestinada a ficar solteira, pois crê firmemente ser vítima de uma poderosa maldição cigana, lançada sobre as mulheres da sua família, porque uma sua antepassada teve a ousadia de roubar o amante a uma cigana.

Devido a uma tragédia que assolou o seu passado, Brynn pensa não mais poder apaixonar-se, sob pena de arrastar para a morte quem com ela pretenda relacionar-se de forma apaixonada.

Grayson, o irmão mais velho de Brynn, é o chefe de família assolado pelas dificuldades de sustentar os irmãos e manter a casa, a questão é até onde irá ele arriscar em termos de legalidade? Será um traidor perigoso ou apenas um sobrevivente?

Wycliff, um aristocrata com fama de libertino, é na verdade, um fiel servidor dos interesses da Coroa Britânica, é funcionário do Ministério dos Negócios Estrangeiros, trabalha em missões secretas, e procura combater todos os traidores que auxiliam Napoleão, então o principal inimigo da Inglaterra e de boa parte da Europa. Em Londres, Brynn lutará consigo mesma para não se apaixonar pelo sedutor marido, Lucian, o qual fica rendido aos encantos da mulher, tudo fazendo para a conquistar, já que se sente completamente enfeitiçado e obcecado por esta, e vai estando sempre presente a dúvida acerca da natureza deste encantamento do Conde pela esposa, tratar-se-á de pura química amorosa iniciada com uma forte e imediata atracção física desde a primeira vez que a avista, ou será isto obra da poderosa e assustadora maldição cigana de que Brynn se julga vítima, e que afecta as mulheres da sua família?

A par dos conflitos psicológicos internos das duas personagens centrais, vamos também acompanhando a carreira de chefe de espionagem de Lucian, Conde de Wycliff, e a luta deste contra os traidores que teimam em roubar ouro para favorecer Napoleão, prejudicando a Inglaterra, deixando atrás de si um rasto de morte de funcionários leais à coroa. O grande mistério que nos vai alimentando o suspense e levando a suposições, é a identidade do chefe dos criminosos, o perigoso e astuto Lorde Caliban.

Nicole Jordan consegue manter o interesse permanente dos leitores neste poderoso e fascinante romance [que bem poderia ser passado para a tela de um cinema], além da reconstituição de época bastante detalhada e com pormenores históricos de relevo como as Guerras Napoleónicas [que dão o mote à história de espionagem e traição intercalada na narrativa principal], somos ainda brindados com uma completa construção de duas personagens fascinantes [Brynn e Lucian], e com uma personagem feminina bastante forte e com personalidade vincada, que se assume claramente predisposta a lutar contra o papel secundarizante habitualmente atribuído ao sexo feminino nesta época histórica.

E o que ganha em intriga, reviravoltas e mistério, a obra não perde, de modo algum, em sensualidade, com cenas eróticas bastante detalhadas e requintadas, embora descritas em linguagem bastante elegante [considerando-se o contexto], denota-se o cuidado na tradução pela coerência revelada nestas cenas mais sensíveis.

O romantismo não é esquecido, pois que, pelo meio da fortíssima tensão sexual, vai nascendo naturalmente um grande amor. Conseguirão os protagonistas superar as adversidades e conquistar, a final, a paz que tanto desejam? Ou terá Brynn de sacrificar-se em nome do amor que acaba por a invadir? A maldição cigana será verdade ou mera lenda?

Recomendo a leitura desta obra, a qual será certamente para reler, numa palavra, um livro fascinante e com um poder encantatório acima da média para quem gosta deste género literário. Nicole Jordan não desaponta, que venham mais livros!

The hero, Lucien, coerces (bribes) the heroine into marriage. He basically wants her body and the use of her womb for an heir. The heroine, Brynn, is the sister of an impoverished baron and free trader (smuggler). She's sworn to never love or marry, having inherited a gypsy curse that's passed through the females in her family. Any man she loves will die.

I liked the gypsy curse aspect and the shared dreams of the hero and heroine. It added a paranormal touch to it. This book wasn't spectacular or engrossing, but it was entertaining enough. Moving on to the next book in the series . . .

Para mim que já tinha experimentado a escrita de Nicole Jordan, quando soube que iria ser lançando um novo título em português, O Desejo, soube de imediato que teria de voltar a mergulhar no seu universo de época e sensualidade. Muito direccionada para as suas personagens, esta autora prima pelas descrições escaldantes e emotivas que envolvem os seus protagonistas, aos quais adiciona questões pertinentes de factor histórico e mistérios ligeiros, o que incentiva a nossa leitura voraz até ao final do seu enredo que, certamente, encantará os adeptos deste género literário.

Brynn e Lucian são os protagonistas que dominam as páginas desta narrativa estabelecendo, logo de início, uma controversa relação nascida pela necessidade, por parte dela, em salvar o que resta da sua família e do desejo avassalador, por parte dele, em ter exclusivamente para si a sereia que assombra os seus sonhos.

Em termos gerais, considerei os intervenientes principais bastante interessantes pelos seus passados e as limitações impostas pelo presente nos seus futuros.
Forte, terna e extremamente presa aos seus, o ponto forte de Brynn, para lá do seu carácter, é a maldição que domina as mulheres da sua família e que tem levado, ao longo de gerações, à desgraça emocional de todas elas. Predisposta a contornar este mal, esta jovem aceita casar com Lucian na condição de nunca o amar e com a perspectiva de retirar os seus irmãos da teia do contrabando saldando, por outros meios, as dívidas deixadas pelo seu pai. No que que respeita a Lucian, este é um cliché deste género literário. Belo, honrado e pela primeira vez apaixonado, este homem vive para a profissão descurando a mulher que escolheu e forçou a casar consigo. A forma como esta personagem permite abordar a nata social inglesa e a sua influência subtil, mas de grande importância, na Guerra Napoleónica que dominava a Europa no início do século XIX são, sem dúvida, as questões mais interessantes nesta história e fazem permanecer, ao longo de todo o texto, o desejo de descobrir para que lado tenderá a alma deste homem que já anteriormente se viu obrigado a tomar decisões irreversíveis de vida ou de morte.

Para lá das múltiplas questões intrigantes que pontuam de brio este texto, como a guerra e a maldição citadas anteriormente, este é, acima de tudo, o livro perfeito as quem gosta de ver retradas cenas sensuais, repletas de paixão e emoções fortes, uma vez que grande parte da narrativa gira em torno dos pensamentos e ambições contraditórias do casal principal que, durante uma boa parte da história, se encontra e desenvolve apenas no leito conjugal.

Nicole Jordan gene harika bir hikayeyle karşımızda. Kitabı çok beğenerek, önceki kitapta ki Aurora karakteri gibi uyuz bir kız karakterimiz olduğunu bilerek okudum. Tutku Mevsiminde ki Aurora karakteri benim kitabı kanepeye vurmama neden olmuştu. Bunlara rağmen kitaba bayılarak okudum ve anladım ki ben mazoşistçe olsa da sinirlendiğim halde karakterlerin savaş halinde olmaları, birbirlerine sataşmaları vs bu gibi durumları seviyorum, heyecanlı oluyor :)) Lanet konusunda değilde, kızımızın sonunda kocası yerine kardeşini seçmesi beni sinir etti.Önceden karakterin bu tür davranışları hakkında uyarıldığım için bu davranışlara gözümü devirerek ve karaktere sayarak okudum :) Özetle tavsiye ederim okumanızı.



Konumuz ise Lord Wycliff'in koyda yüzen bir kızla karşılaşması ve Siren'in çağrısı gibi bu kızın güzelliğinin etkisine girmesiyle başlıyor. O kadar ki, çok arzuladığı oğlunun annesinin bu kadın olmasını istiyordur. Ve bu uğurda karşısına bir engel çıkmasına izin vermeyecektir. Brynne bu namı ikamet ettiği ufak köye kadar uzanmış ahlaksız bir zamparanın ona olan ilgisiyle şaşırmamıştır çünkü bu çekicilik bir kaç nesildir ailesinin kadınlarının kabusu olmaktadır. Atalarından biri çingene bir kadının sevdiğini çaldığı için lanetlenmiş ve ondan sonraki nesillerdeki kadınlar kimi severse sevdiği erkekler ölmüş. Brynne da 16 yaşındayken aşık olduğu bir kısmetinin ölmesi üzerine lanetinin gerçekliğine inanmış ve evlenmemeye yemin etmiştir. Lucian - yani namıdeğer Lucifer :) - planlarını bozguna uğratır ve Brynne kendini bu çekici ve ne yapıcağını bilmez, emri vaki Lordla evli bulur. Brynne'ın aklında bu yakışıklı Lord'a gönlünü kaptırmadan bir oğul verebilmesinin olasılığı hakkında sorular dolanıyordur. Yalnız Brynne'ın farkına varması gereken bir şey vardır Lucian hiçte pes etmeye niyetli değildir. Bunu kavradığında ise Brynne'ın kalbi çoktan tehlikededir.

Brynn: romanımızın kadın kahramanı...açıkçası beni biraz sinirlendirdi..bi lanet takıntısıdır gidiyor..bu düşüncesini çok kafasına takmış...ama haklı zira bazen öyle şeyler oluyorki hak vermemek elde değil:) neyse kızımız abisiyle beraber babasının bıraktığı borçları ödemek için kaçakçılık yapan abisine arada bir yardım ediyor...kız oldukça güzel..erkeklerin dikkatini istemediği halde üzerine çekiyor:)bir gün kimsenin bilmediğini düşündüğe bir yerde yüzerken Lord Wycliff -Lucian- ile karşılaşır..oldukça uygunsuz bir durumda..ve kendini kurtarmak adına hizmetçi olduğunu söylüyor..ama bi kaç gün sonra bu iddiası ortadn kalkıyor...
neyse uzun uzadıya anlatmayyım..ama sırf kardeşi için hiç istemediği hlde Lucianla evleniyor...tabi asıl olaylar ondan sonra başlıyor...

Lucian:romanın erkek kahramanı...Kendileri casusluk işinde gibi...
bazı olaylar sonucu "ölüm" sık sık aklına gelir oluyor..ve bu yüzden evlenp bir varis sahibi olmak istiyor...
tabi olay zinciri bu ya..o kişi de Brynn oluyor...Kızın tüm uyarılarına rağmen birazda uyguladığı manevi baskıyla Brynn ile evleniyor...Evlendikten sonra bazı olaylar yüzünden ve karşılıksız olduğunu düşündüğü aşkının da verdiği üzüntüyle Brynn'la arası biraz açılıyor...
ama bu kitabımızda hemen hemen her kitap gibi mutlu bitir..

Grayson ve Theo:Brynn'ın abi ve kardeşi..Grayson babasının borçları yüzünden çok yanlış işlere -kaçakçılık hatta nerdeyse vatan hainliği gibi- karışıyor..ama sonuç olarak pişman olsada bunları ailesi için yapıyor..
Theo ise çok zeki..kimyaya da oldukça düşkün...Brynn'ın karar alırken etkilenmesi dışında pek de ön planda değil:)


Genel Yorumum:Kitabı beğendim..oldukça akıcı ve merak uyndırıcıydı...
kitabın sonuna kadar heyecan sürdü...hiç sıkılmayacaksınız..karakterlerde güzel işlenmiş...
yer yer Damien ve Nick'tende bahsedilmesi iyi olmuş...zira kerataları özlemişim...

Gostei do livro, mas depois de ler vários deste género começo a ficar cada vez mais crítica em relação a eles e começa a ser difícil surpreenderem-me xD

É verdade que gostei do que li, foi rápido de ler e bom para desanuviar, mas a personagem feminina irritou-me um bocado com a história da maldição, achei um bocado irritante essa parte ser repetida e repetida e não ser adicionado mais nenhum factor, mas é um bom livro para desanuviar :)

Sou sincera, eu gosto bastante deste género de romances históricos mas fiquei um pouco desapontada com este.

Faltou-me saber mais sobre o seu passado, era tudo muito à volta do mesmo, o medo da maldição e a mudança de apenas quer um herdeiro para duas personagens que passam a amar-se.

Lê-se com facilidade, Nicole Jordan tem uma escrita interessante, mas acho que pelo menos neste livro faltou-lhe alguma profundidade.

Hereditariamente todas as descendentes femininas estão condenadas a possuir o poder de enfeitiçar os homens e acabando com a vida destes. E Brynn acredita piamente que possui o mesmo destino.

A história da maldição da cigana deu aqui um toque místico a um livro de época muito bom .. A personagem feminina é linda e bondosa , o masculino e charmoso e sexy . Combinação perfeita. O livro ao contrário de muitos outros não teve nenhuma linha que eu não quisesse ler . Simplesmente adorei

This book was well written and the plot and characters developed so that it felt like I was reading an adult romance, not a YA.
The one complaint I have, and really it has more to do with me, then the author, is that it started off with a prologue. For some reason I just don't like reading about the future ahead of the present.. (does that make sense? probably not) Usually, I skip prologue's because I feel it spoils the story. But, that is my personal dislike and shouldn't detract others from reading the story.
I thought that the passion the heroine and hero felt for each other was written extremely well and the book drew you in emotionally. You felt the difficult choice that the heroine had to make and genuinely felt for her.
I think Nicole Jordan is a wonderful writer and I purchase many of her books.
Quick synopsis- Hero, the Earl of Wycliff, see's the heroine on a beech and is attracted to her. He basically tells himself he needs a heir and that's how he justifies, to himself, that he should marry her. The heroine, Juliette, believes she is cursed and that is why the hero is attracted to her. Her brother is part of a smuggler/treason ring and the book centers around the hero trying to break the smuggler/spy ring that her brother is a part of. (normally, I dislike spy plots because they are so overdone in todays romances, but she pulled it off very well). The heroine is torn between the love she feels for her husband , but also trying to save her brother. This emotional tug of war is what the book mainly centers around.. (How do I protect my brother without destroying my marriage to my husband). The hero knows that something isn't quite right and though he feels betrayed, loves the heroine so much that he can't stop loving her, which he hates himself for.
Heat level- somewhat steamy- but written extremely well (no silly names, or lust due to a lack of plot development)
Violence- very little - no more then any other romance of today

Spymaster and legendary lover Lucian, Earl of Wycliff, in in Cornwall trying to track down a ring smuggling/stealing gold from England to Bonaparte. Instead, he finds beautiful Brynn Caldwell swimming. The women in Brynn's family were cursed by a gypsy after an ancestor stole the gypsy's lover. Any man loved by the women in the family dies and that's been proven repeatedly. Lucian is instantly attracted, but Brynn wants no part of his death, so refuses his offer of marriage until he blackmails her into it by financially getting the family out of trouble. The sparks fly, but both fight the attraction while trying to solve the missing gold shipments and capture Lord Caliban.

Some fairly graphic bedroom (and other rooms) scenes, but believable story line and fast paced story.

Leí este libro hace más de un año y aún pienso en el tiempo y energía que gasté en él. Es Slow Burn en grandes escalas a pesar de que, a principios del libro, ya hay interacción entre los personajes principales.

Tenía expectativas altas cuando lo empecé ya que me gustan las novelas románticas de época; puedo rescatar la descripción de los personajes y la ambientación de los encuentros entre Brynn y Lucian. Sin embargo, se vuelve lento y aburrido, más que todo porque, como mencioné anteriormente, los personajes se conocen desde los capítulos iniciales y en los cuales ya se conoce el interés de Lucian.

No lo recomiendo.

This is a 10 stars book, to me

From jump, this story had me in fired up mode. No playing around, no drawn out anticipation and no getting to the good stuff until you have read half the book. For Lucian, Earl of Tremayne, was in lust at first site, not unusual for most rakes, but he was also looking for wife to give him a son and everyone knew this. Brynn, the typical backwater, small town girl, caught his eyes while she was swimming in the ocean. This story was loaded with steamy, sizzling, hot sex throughout the entire story. I have read countless books by this author, I don't know why it took me so long to read this gem.

When reading this book, you will surely feel frustrated because MMC is a jerk at least until halfway through. As for FMC, who was more or less forced into marriage, I really can't and don't want to blame her for her reaction. Besides, she has done nothing wrong. I feel sad for the sacrifice of she makes for her family and also appreciate her strong will. The book is well-written with a tight plot, but it does not bring a pleasant emotional experience for most of the time. However, I still want to give it a good review.

Another solid book in the 'Notorious' series, "Desire" kept me entertained throughout with a wild plot, lots of good sex scenes and interesting characters: things you can always count of from Nicole Jordan.
