Barb Raveling writes Bible studies and books on Christian weight loss and the renewing of the mind. She is planning future studies and books on relationships, breaking habits, overcoming procrastination, and a closer walk with God.
Barb takes you right into Scripture and God's truth. She asks deep questions, encourages you to ponder and meditate and journal, to dig deep and find out why you think and believe the way we do. I found much help and inspiration and truth reading and journaling through this book. I recommend it highly recommended highly!
Very practical, helpful and useful book on renewing your mind with scripture. I like to think of it as Cognitive behavioral therapy for Christians. I will be referring to this one often!
If you are lacking direction in how to renew your mind, this is the road map! This is an excellent book that you will probably use along with your Bible the rest of your life. It has lots of help for counseling yourself and helping others to take thoughts captive and change to be more like Christ. There are few books that I want to be without and this is one of them!
This was very practical, but also confusing. With all the steps involved I am sure it is organized as best as it can be, but it still leaves my head swimming just a bit.
The best part though is that I am certainly motivated to work on my PROJECT between me and God. And while I might be swimming in information overload, what I am NOT swimming in is self-condemnation or a poor, poor pitiful me attitude. This was a motivation read!
Excellent book!! But you have to do the work. I'm still going through the questions in the back of the book. They are very helpful in keeping me on track and thinking right and true thoughts. I highly recommend.
It will not only change you actions, poor choices, or your habits, in this book Barb shows you what it really means to "renew your mind". It is a book to return to time and again! Thank you Barb for your ministry!
As a Christian looking to make some changes in my attitude...this book was so helpful and just what I was looking for. I will admit I have avoided books about this topic in the past. I will also say that if you aren’t willing to put in the work, then don’t read this one until you are. But, so helpful and so freeing.
Has Christ transformed your life? Have you ever felt like the power of God in your life was a lie? I believe Christians are leading defeated lives and that’s one reason the Church is such a mess. I think Barb has hit on the key that’s been missing in the Church! Maybe it’s just some of us who have been missing out, I don’t know. I do know I have a friend who would tell me that when she had to go to God with her emotions, she prayed until she felt better. I always thought I might never be able to come out of my prayer closet if I did that. It took many times of praying to get feelings resolved, sometimes years to get where I wanted to be.
That’s not true in my life now. Barb has giving me the missing tool. I discovered Barb’s books the very end of December. I’ve always known that lies are out there but I didn’t realize I was believing them in my own life. I was able to use renewing my mind to get freedom from depression when I was first saved and to help me to walk in the ways of God but I had character flaws and bad habits that I just couldn’t figure out how to get help from God with. She helped me get insight on an issue on the very first day. I have had unbelievable break thrus so far. I was able to start exercising daily, I haven’t done that for years. I am able to stick to a diet, haven’t done this well in years either. I have a way to deal with my emotions with God that have been really helpful for the first time. God helped me thru her method to stop procrastinating. God has helped me so much using these little tweaks that she’s given me.
Renewing our mind works to change our lives. Using the questions she provides and the journaling have been the key for me. I praise God for this and I hope churches everywhere teach this to their congregants so that people can have the abundant lives that Jesus came to give them.
This book is a practical tool to help you in areas that you are struggling. The author recommends a variety of practices to help the reduced stop and contemplate one’s internal dialogue and God’s perspective on the situation. The majority of the book is composed of a variety of questions to help you talk it over with God and to renew your mind. I had downloaded the app, which does have all the questions (for free) but they became significantly more useful after reading the “directions.” Not a traditional devotional book for Lent, but thankful to have found it.
Everyone must read this book. Life changing principles to help those who love the Lord conquer a bad habit, start a good habit or break free from the lies we believe as we walk through this life. Practical and biblical.
This book has many ways to be used to fight strongholds. It helps to know what they are first. Now I do, and a way to put a battle plan in place. And awesome to know, I'm not fighting alone.
I will use this book for many years to come. It’s not a book to read and put away. It’s a book to use day-by-day to help refocus the mind to the things of God.
This book was recommended to me at a perfect time in my life. God used it to open my eyes in so many ways. I am thankful for how much this book has helped transform my mind and will use it daily to help renew my thoughts. It was well written, easy to read, thorough, and a resource I will recommend to everyone who wants to get serious about transforming the way they think.
