No Safe Exit by Ed McKenna is one of those reads that grabs you from page one and doesn’t ease up.

At its core, the story follows a man on a revenge-driven mission who tracks down a successful publisher and traps him inside his own luxurious home—turning the tables in a tense, psychological game where secrets unravel and power constantly shifts.

Chapter 1? Straight into it. No fluff, no slow build—just immediate tension and a “wait, what’s happening here?” kind of hook that pulls you in fast.

The storyline itself feels really unique. It leans heavily into moral grey areas, pride, self-importance, and that underlying message that… honestly, none of it really matters as much as people think it does. No one’s walking away clean here, and that’s what makes it so compelling. Themes of revenge and redemption run throughout, with characters constantly toeing the line between the two.

I loved the subtle touches throughout—like the clever nod to his next book in the trilogy, The Grand Secret, woven into the story. Such a smart move, and it’s definitely left me curious about what’s coming next. Plus, those little hints of his love for travel destinations added an extra layer I really enjoyed ✈️📖

Character-wise, don’t expect to “love” anyone—and that’s intentional. It adds to the tension and keeps you questioning motives the whole way through.

For a debut, it’s a strong one. Big shoutout to my colleague Ed—this is no small feat, and you can see the thought behind it.
