Camera Stays On
The cameras are rolling, the scene is set, and the stakes are deadly. On this set, no one is safe.
Five years ago, Purdy Marin’s wedding was shattered when her fiancé, Sawyer Delambre, accused her of cheating—at the altar. Humiliated and fed up, she ditched town and never looked back.
Years later, Purdy now goes by “Andi,” and has a happy, albeit humble, life in the city. She thought she’d left the nightmare of Sawyer behind, but he has other plans. Sawyer, an aspiring director, assembled the perfect trap—a chilling horror script, the funding to make it real, and Andi cast in the starring role. Strapped for cash, she agrees.
But Sawyer isn’t the only one looking for the spotlight. His older brother, Asher, has quietly loved Andi for years. Now cast as her on-screen husband, Ash has the excuse he’s always wanted—to finally stand where his brother once stood.
As the cameras roll, alliances shift, and buried secrets rise to the surface. Everyone has motives. Everyone believes they're directing the show. But Andi may be the most dangerous player of all. She’s spent years letting Sawyer tell her story. This is her shot to write her own ending.
But every ending comes with a cost. And in every found footage, the story only survives because someone didn’t.

Tylor is proof that horror doesn’t have to be serious to be effective. It can be self-aware, playful, and at times romantic, while still telling a solid scary story. In blending her passions for both romance and horror she’s not only creating something that’s both risqué and bloody, she’s bridging the gap between the hopelessly romantic and the hopelessly haunted.

I nearly DNFed after the MMC hit his dogs but curiosity kept me reading. Now I wish I’d DNFed.
The blurb is incredibly misleading, borderline lies to the reader. I have no idea why this is being compared to Butcher & Blackbird, they are nothing alike.
The prose left a lot to be desired. The MMC and FMC are complete morons who downplay and enable the villains actions. The MMC’s moustache was mentioned so many times it may as well be it’s own character. Information was repeated to the reader multiple times and there were frequent continuity errors.
The couple gets together super early in the book with zero build up making the romance and the spice fall flat.
It was very slow until about the 40% mark when it suddenly went from zero to a hundred.
There were so many opportunities for the characters to get away once they realised they were in danger but they barely tried. Everyone was way too nonchalant about the situation.
I would have appreciated a trigger warning for detailed on page sexual assault and attempted rape.
And the book was way longer than it needed to be. The ending dragged so much. The MMC had so many opportunities to resolve things but he just didn’t for some reason.
Really disappointed because the blurb made this book sound so interesting but it was a major let down.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me an eArc to review.

This was wild! It blends found-footage horror, slasher vibes, messy history, and a complicated love triangle into a quick, entertaining read. In true Tylor form, Sawyer was an unlikeable psychotic train wreck lol. I mean I wanted to off him myself 😆
I really enjoyed the filmmaking/horror elements and the second-chance tension, but overall, this seemed lacking that wow factor I’ve experienced with this author’s other stories. Still, it was a fun read with a unique setup that horror romance readers will really enjoy.

This felt like a 0-1 star read, but I’m giving it 2 because of the dogs who were the only characters of the book I enjoyed reading about.
We could’ve had a really intense psychological horror here if the author had stuck to the stalking and mental games that Sawyer put Andi through. Instead, the story turns into an off the rails movie production in an abandoned house. Again, you’d think that premise would be awesome.
It isn’t. The cast of characters get stupider and illogical as each page turns. Their actions and decisions nonsensical and annoying. The romance aspects were weird and felt completely out of place. There were a lot of narrative inconsistencies that were exasperating to muddle through.
Thank you anyways to NetGalley, the author, and Victory Editing/ Page & Vine for a copy!

Disclaimer: I usually do not watch horror movies,, The only series that I enjoy is the Scream franchise and this book definitely scratched that itch! This was also my first book by Tylor Paige (and it definitely won't be my last). I loved the setup and backstory (with flashbacks) of the characters. It kept my heart racing with suspense.
I definitely recommend listening to the audiobook. Ava Flynn and Luke Persiani are exceptional. Luke Persiani's vocal range to differentiate between Asher & Sawyer made me feel like I was listening to two different male narrators!
You'll love this story if you enjoy:
-Horror Romance
-Forced Proximity
-Heartpounding Plot Twists
-Unhinged Characters
-Found Footage
-Slasher Love Triangles (with two brothers)
-Childhood Crush
Thank you so much to Tylor Paige, Page & Vine, and Dreamscape Media for the eARC and ALC!

Just finished immersive reading an advanced copy of a book that is about to be released on October 6th called, Camera Stays On. This is about Andi, she left town five years ago after she was humiliated when her fiancé, Sawyer had accused her of cheating while they were standing at the altar in front of everyone. Now she is back in her hometown, the place she never wanted to return to, and while she's back she runs into Sawyer. He wants a second chance with her, he tells her how he's trying to become a film director. He already has the script, the location, and the money to make the film, he just needs Andi to be the star. With an offer she can't refuse, she reluctantly agrees. Now she will be in a house/film set with Sawyer, as well as his older brother, Asher. Asher has been secretly in love with his brother's girl ever since they were kids, but he was always the best friend never the boyfriend. When he is cast as Andi's husband for the film, he finally feels like this is his moment to make Andi really see him. But things go sideways fast and suddenly everyone is a suspect and no one can be trusted. Oh and they can't leave the property! And before they know it this becomes a very different type of film, the camera stays on but will anyone make it out alive?
I totally devoured this story, this book was absolutely incredible! I have only read two of her books (so far!) but I just have to say Tylor has quickly become a favorite author of mine! I was absolutely obsessed with this story, I truly couldn't put it down! I was laughing out loud, on the edge of my seat, literally gasping and covering my mouth (my husband actually asked me at one point when I gasped, "are you okay?" And I was like "OMG THIS BOOK!" 😱 I had no words!) This book was so wildly entertaining and absolutely unputdownable! I loved this book so much, it was definitely a top read for the year for me! 💙📚
Thank you to Tylor Paige, Page & Vine, Dreamscape Media, and Netgalley for this eARC and ALC of Camera Stays On, in exchange for an honest review.

NetGalley ARC review :
I normally love me a good “touch her and die” MMC, but Sawyer is psychotic in all the wrong ways. I really felt for Andi (Purdy), and throughout the entire book I was rooting for her. I wanted Sawyer to get what was coming to him, and I desperately wanted Asher to finally fight for her in the way he didn’t in high school. Because Sawyer? Yeah… he was not the one.
My biggest issue with this book was the pacing. This story DRAGGED. You’re halfway in before we really get into the actual movie storyline. There were just a lot of scenes that felt unnecessary and had me wondering, Did we really need this?
And then there were the flashbacks. This was probably my biggest pet peeve. Characters would explain something that happened in the past during the present-day storyline, and then a couple chapters later, we’d get a flashback showing us the exact event we just heard about. Some flashbacks added important context, but others felt repetitive and interrupted the flow of the story.
But once we FINALLY got into the meat of the story? That’s when things got good.
The entire concept is actually incredibly compelling: an obsessed psychopath who wants his ex back so badly that he creates an elaborate plan to win her over while eliminating anyone who gets in his way. Sawyer’s plan is genuinely disturbing, and there were some twists I absolutely did not see coming. There were several moments where I was sitting there thinking, Oh… wow.
I also wouldn’t personally categorize this as a dark romance. To me, this felt much more like a thriller/horror with romance as the motivation, with a few spicy scenes sprinkled in.
And please, please don’t go into this expecting Butcher and Blackbird like the description suggests. The only real similarity is murder. Butcher and Blackbird is about two serial killers with a very different story and dynamic, along with plenty of comedic moments. This is much more of an obsessive-psychopath thriller with zero comedy.
Ultimately, I think there’s a really good story buried in this book. The concept is strong, the twists are wild, and once the story finally gets moving, it becomes genuinely entertaining. I just wish there had been less filler, fewer repetitive flashbacks, and a much tighter first half.
A solid 3 stars for me. I struggled to get through the first half, but I’m glad I stuck with it because the second half absolutely delivered more of what I was hoping

I have no idea what I just read but it was not what was described. If I could erase it from my mind I would.
I don’t even know where to begin with this review. It lacked a lot of development and I did not like the writing style.
I didn’t like any of the characters, Sawyer is an absolute psychopath. Asher was awful as well and Purdy (Andi) well Jesus she was no better either.
It definitely shouldn’t say “for fans of Butcher and Blackbird” because this is not for the same fan base.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.

A big thank you to Page & Vine, Dreamscape Media, and Tylor Paige for providing me with the eARC and ALC in exchange for an honest review.
Camera Stays On is a dark and unsettling combination of horror, thriller, and dark romance that explores obsession, complicated relationships, and just how messy love can become. The story centers around two brothers who both have feelings for their childhood friend, Andi “Purdy,” creating a complicated dynamic filled with tension, possessiveness, and plenty of darker moments.
I enjoyed the overall premise and the way the horror and thriller elements were woven into the romance. There was an underlying sense of uneasiness throughout the story that kept me curious about what would happen next, and the relationship between the three main characters brought plenty of tension. The darker themes and spice also fit well with the overall tone of the story.
There is also a small nod to Tylor Paige’s Good for Her through a mention of the Simon Says movie series, a little Easter egg from that book. There are no character connections between the two stories, so Good for Her is not necessary to read before Camera Stays On, but I always enjoy catching little references like this between an author’s books.
The audiobook was also a good listen and worked well for the story. While Camera Stays On ultimately wasn’t a favorite of mine, I still enjoyed experiencing it in audio and found the ALC to be an engaging listen.
While I found the concept intriguing, I ultimately struggled to connect with the characters and the story as much as I had hoped. There were definitely moments that kept me invested, but the overall execution didn’t completely land for me, which is what brought this down to a three-star read.
Overall, Camera Stays On will likely appeal to readers looking for a darker romance with horror and thriller elements, complicated relationship dynamics, obsession, and a premise that takes some unexpected turns. 🖤

ALC & ARC immersive read
Thanks so much to Page & Vine, Dreamscape Media and Tylor Paige for the review copies. All opinions are voluntary and honest.
I’m a long time fan of Tylor’s work and couldn’t wait to dive into this one. It’s a bit of a departure from her other work, but the pervasive sense of glee at the insanity and horror still rings through and this might be my favorite book of hers to date!
The narration is fantastic. It’s duet, NOT dual, so please know that going in. But honestly? I didn’t even notice. Usually, male narrators doing the voice of female characters during their chapters irks me, but I didn’t even notice it here. Luke Persiani’s performance was outstanding and I think you really realize it when reading immersively. The nuance and emotion he imparts to the characters - particularly to Asher and Sawyer - is expert level. Ava Flynn voices Andi’s chapters and the best way I can describe it is that her voice felt great on my brain. Like I legit looked forward to her chapters because I knew how great I would feel.
The story takes place over a short time span, trapped in a remote location, with flashbacks to the MCs pasts that really enhances the plot and gives the background information needed. It’s not found footage in the sense that we learn the story via the footage that is found - although that DOES play a role as some of our characters are forced to face some truths due to filmed things from their past - but the camera is ALWAYS rolling and the cast and crew of Sawyer’s movie are hostages to his insane whims are forced to perform.
What you can expect: spice, murder, gore and laughs. You WILL have fun with this one!

A crazy psychotic ex, horror/slasher vibes, feuding brothers, and a chaotic film set. This one will definitely have you staying up way past your bedtime to finish it!
I love how Tylor writes! She always adds in enough horror/slasher vibes with a dash of romance that had me hooked all the way through!
I really enjoyed the FMC in this one and honestly my heart went out to her in so many different ways. Not only did I love the FMC but one of the MMC in this one I loved him! Was he morally grey yes…did he do things that was questionable also yes but his feelings and love for the FMC was unmistakable amazing! He was always in the shadows making sure she was never alone and safe!
I will say this one did take me a minute to really get into but once the story started to really unfolded I couldn’t stop reading. Literally it was 1am in I couldn’t stop until I reached the very last page! I just had to know how this crazy chaotic story was going to end!
There was some twist and turns that I honestly wasn’t expecting and it honestly just gave the story another layer of suspense!

If you are looking for a murderous bloody fall read this is it. Much like the first book on this series there is a lot of blood and gore. The romance is definitely on the darker and more forbidden side. I would definitely say to look up the trigger warnings, however if you love slasher films this is the perfect choice

Quick Summary: A dark horror obsession/possession romance
My Review: Camera Stays On by Tylor Paige is categorized as a "Horror | Romance." The audiobook edition is scheduled for release on 10/6/26.
About the Book: "Five years ago, Purdy Marin's wedding was shattered when her fiancé, Sawyer Delambre, accused her of cheating—at the altar. Humiliated and fed up, she ditched town and never looked back.
She thought she'd left the nightmare of Sawyer behind, but he has other plans.
As the cameras roll, alliances shift and buried secrets rise to the surface. Everyone has motives.
...every ending comes with a cost.
The cameras are rolling, the scene is set, and the stakes are deadly. On this set, no one is safe."
In My Own Words: Life imitates art, even when nefarious deeds are scripted, happened upon, or fallen into.
About the Characters/Conflict/Criminality: The characters in this story were diverse in background and varied in terms of how they contributed to the story. The shadows and light aspect of their roles came across so well that it was difficult to see who the victims, the innocents, the disturbed, and the good guys were. Conflict was linked to every single person. The questions of who the true criminals were and where the morality line should be drawn remained steadily through the entirety of the story. It made for action-packed drama and page-turning originality.
About the Audiobook: This novel was narrated by Luke Persiani and Ava Flynn. Their delivery was thoroughly entertaining and completely captivating. They expressed the chilling tension so well that it felt like I was in the movie theater watching on the big screen. The tragic ends, the ghoulish depravity, the steamy passion, the murky intentions - it was all unforgettable.
My Final Say: Tylor Paige deserves a 3-minute ovation for this dastardly, creepy-licious story. It was utterly depraved and deliciously wicked. It was non-stop when it came to thrills and chills. The romance drama only added to the frantic pacing, giving me a front-row seat to all the suspenseful action. In the end, I simply have to say that it was mad-crazy-sick!
This was a fantastic pre-Halloween read. (Mwah ha ha ha!)
Just know that if there was a part 2 to this story, I would be all over it!
Other: Readers who enjoy dark horror romance, morally gray hero + heroine match ups, relationship triangles, slasher play, and books that come across with film-like stories will love this. It is a niche read. Those who do not get down with the aforementioned probably should not consider it as a go-to read.
*** Comparison Dark, Edgy Romance Novel Series That Have Same Kind of Energy: The Ruinous Love Trilogy, Brothers of Sin, The Mavericks, Seasons of Carnage ***
A Special Note: This novel could easily go from book to film. It's just that good. It is contemporary and has that Jack Nicholson-Here's Johnny-psycho-killer vibe.
Warning: Potential readers should definitely be aware of any and all author/publisher notes. Content in this book gets a trigger warning hit. Blood, gore, abuse, MDK, and assault are present. It gets an R/M rating.

Rating: 4/ 5 ⭐️
I listened to the audiobook of Camera Stays On by Tylor Paige. It was dual cast, not duet, but both narrators sounded GREAT so it didn't take away from the story at all.
This was my first Tylor Paige book and definitely not my typical genre — I'm usually a dark romance girl through and through. But this one sounded so interesting and the cover is eye-catching, I had to give it a try. I'm glad I did.
Andi and Asher have quite the complicated history... Andi was engaged to his BROTHER. The tension from page one is messy and forbidden in the best way.
I'll be honest, the chemistry between Andi and Asher felt a little rushed at the start — it happens before chapter 5 — but after that? Fire throughout the entire book 🔥
Let's talk about Sawyer (the ex-fiancé). He was having a very hard time letting Andi go. I normally LIVE for the touch-her-and-die trope, but this was from the wrong MMC and it was just... unsettling. Sawyer's character was plain unsettling. Psychotic, deranged (not in a good way), zero remorse for any of his actions. Juliette too — those two together were delusional but they made GREAT horror movie characters.
I was on the edge of my seat through the entire found-footage filmmaking process. At around 80% I started questioning EVERYONE. By the end I was questioning my own sanity 🤪
Favorite quote: “I was obsessed. I was possessed. I. Was. Hers.”
If you like forbidden romance with thriller/horror vibes that keeps you guessing until the very last page, add this one.

Camera Stays On is a horror romance where we follow Asher, who is in love with Andi, who was almost married to Sawyer, Asher's brother. They are filming a found footage horror movie except real people die, so it's actually a snuff film I guess. I really was not a fan of this. The pacing drags on and on and on. Nothing exciting happens until almost 50% of the way through the book, and the audio book is almost 13 hours long. This should have been condensed into no more than 8 hours. I disliked every single character in this story. Sawyer is genuinely vile in such a distressing way, which I guess you could say is good since this is a horror, but with all of the recent news of the Cornell 7, he made my stomach turn. Especially considering the audiobook performance by Luke Persiani, which, again, you could say he did an excellent job of making Sawyer the villain, but also I will never be able to listen to anything else he narrates. The writing of this story is also very mediocre. It felt like the kind of writing you get with a lot of self-published books, but this is not self-published. Kind of makes me question the publisher for distributing a book of this quality.
Yeah, this was really bad. I can't really think of any redeemable qualities other than the narrators' performances. So two stars for Luke Persiani and Ava Flynn.

I wanted this to be like "Lights Out" or "Butcher and Blackbird" - I thought a slasher romance could be fitting for the upcoming spooky season. Sadly, this one was not for me at all.
I spent most of the book trying to figure out why it wasn't working. To me, the characters didn't have much depth. Sure, we get a bit about how they grew up, but as a reader I didn't really "feel" it. I didn't feel like our FMC really struggled and her feeling trapped led her to date Sawyer. Sawyer is SO red flag the entire book that it was hard to consider why she'd stay with him (and plan to marry him). I needed more believability. I also didn't really feel like the two guys felt like brothers. I needed Asher to feel like he had to protect or take care of his brother as the excuse for their behavior.
By the time the slasher part was happening I was already not connected to most of the characters so I didn't feel much emotion for everything happening.
I'd almost have preferred if the slasher part took a more "campy" or comedic vibe; that might've helped suspend belief in the storyline being able to happen.
I loathe having to give a not super positive review of an ARC read. I had the pleasure of listening via audiobook and felt the narration was decent despite not loving the storyline.
My thanks to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the ALC; opinions are my own.

I wasn't entirely sure what to expect going into Camera Stays On, but I ended up having a great time with it. This is a campy, over the top 90s slasher wrapped in a dark romance, and once I leaned into that vibe, it was so much fun. The horror and suspense kept me hooked, and I loved that the filmmaking aspect was actually important to the story instead of just serving as the backdrop. The characters are messy, morally gray, and make plenty of questionable decisions, which honestly fits the slasher genre perfectly. There were definitely moments where I found myself rolling my eyes, especially when they chose to hook up in the middle of life or death situations, but that's part of the fun if you don't take it too seriously. The romance had real history behind it, the chemistry was strong, and there was plenty of spice. The flashbacks added depth without slowing the story down, and I never knew exactly where things were headed. I also really enjoyed the audiobook. Ava Flynn and Luke Persiani both brought a lot of emotion to their performances and kept me engaged throughout. Overall, this was a fun, fast paced horror romance that fully embraces the chaos of classic slasher movies. If you enjoy campy horror, morally gray characters, suspense, and plenty of spice, this is definitely worth checking out.

Camera Stays On delivers exactly what it promises on the tin: a bloody, fast-paced love letter to 90s slasher cinema wrapped up in an unapologetically dark romance. If you’ve ever found yourself secretly rooting for Ghostface in Scream while wanting a high-heat romantic arc, Tylor Paige wrote this specifically for you.
The atmosphere is where this book truly shines. The tension builds quickly, the chase scenes feel genuinely suspenseful, and the masked killer trope is executed with just the right mix of campy slasher energy and intense, morally grey chemistry. The heat levels are high, and the dynamic between the main characters is delightfully unhinged. It reads like a popcorn thriller you can devour in a single sitting.
My only slight critique is that it requires a healthy dose of suspension of disbelief as the characters definitely make classic "horror movie" decisions that will have you yelling at them to just run out the front door instead.
Additionally, it is a true dark romance, so the violent themes and heavy stalker dynamics mean checking trigger warnings beforehand is a must.
Overall, it’s a dark, spicy, and thoroughly entertaining ride for slasher fans.
Thanks to NetGalley, Page & Vine and Tylor Paige for the ARC!

Thank you to the author, Tylor Paige, Publisher Dreamscape Media, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book. I received a gifted copy and am leaving my review voluntarily.
On this set no one is safe!
Five years ago Purdy and Sawyers wedding day was a disaster, accusations of infidelity flew and Purdy left town humiliated. Now, Sawyer has tracked her down and offered her a leading film role, and he won’t take no for an answer.
This is her shot at writing her own ending!
From the beginning, Sawyer is not a likable character in the least! Part of the books charm but still he needed a throat punch!
I was not as enthusiastic as Good For Her but this was still a wild slasher romance and it will find its people! There is plenty of action, blood, spice and chaos to keep you entertained.
Luke Persiani and Ava Flynn were fantastic in their duel narration! They brought the chills and creeping dread as the camera rolled and you just wanted to shout RUN or DONT GO THERE to the characters!

Thanks so much page and vine for this ARC via NetGalley! When I saw this was a Horror/Slasher romance I thought that this would be a perfect read for spooky season! While the concept of this story was intriguing I couldn’t get past my annoyance for one brother in particular and it left me feeling bad for our FMC. I saw the potential in this story, I just wish the execution was better. Overall, it was a decent slasher read with a happy ending.

~“Purdy had a stutter, which only made her more beautiful in my eyes.”
~“She had no idea just how crazy I was for her.”
~“I'll just say it. This is all so fucking pathetic. All of this could have been avoided if you'd just let a girl say no to you once in a while."
~“No cameras,”—“And don’t ask me to wear another fucking wedding dress.”

This book was completely out of left field when it comes to my normal genre’s but honestly I enjoyed it! I really didn’t know what I would be getting into but a slasher romance was interesting for sure! I enjoyed the thriller and suspense aspect of it and not knowing where the book was going to take me. I liked how it also progressively got more unhinged. The big thing that I couldn’t really get over was how they had sex multiple times in high stress situations like when someone is trying to kill you. I just found myself rolling my eyes but I think that may just be because I was taking everything so literally and thinking a normal person wouldn’t do that lol!
But overall it was a quick and enjoyable read. Perfect for spooky season!

This book (I literally almost said movie... iykyk) is perfect for anyone who loves a good horror movie, especially found footage!
As per usual, Tylor Paige has created a wild story that keeps you guessing right from the start. It's action-packed, funny, THRILLING, and full of absolute mayhem! I literally had no idea where the plot was going and loved to hate half of the characters, except for our mains of course! Our MMC was just a tad bit morally grey and full of yearning, while our FMC was sassy and fun with a great character arc - I was rooting for her the whole time and was NOT left wanting! I loved this story and especially recommend it for the spooky season.

I really wanted to like this one.
A horror/slasher romance set on a creepy film set, an obsessed ex, a possessive brother, murder, secrets and comparisons to both the ruinous love and Into darkness trilogies?
That sounds pretty fucking perfect for me.
Unfortunately, the book and the blurb seemed to have very different ideas about what I was actually getting.
Our FMC Andi, formerly Purdy, is dragged back into the orbit of her ex-fiancé Sawyer after agreeing to star in his horror film.
I wanted to like her. I really did.
Unfortunately, once she realises just how dangerous the situation is, some of her decisions made absolutely no sense to me. There were so many opportunities for her to get away, but instead she and the other characters seemed remarkably calm about the fact that people were being murdered around them.
Then there's our MMC Asher.
He's Sawyers older brother who has loved Andi for years, but I never really connected with him as an MMC. The romance between them happens incredibly early, with very little build-up, so by the time we were supposed to care about their relationship, I was still wondering where the actual development had gone.
And Sawyer?
Well.
Sawyer is fucking awful and also Andi's ex-fiancee.
Unfortunately, the book spends a lot of time having other characters downplay or enable his behaviour, which made it incredibly difficult for me to understand why they weren't doing more to get the hell away from him.
Also, his moustache was mentioned so many times that I'm fairly certain it deserves its own character credit.
Andi returns to the town she left behind years ago and agrees to star in Sawyer's horror film, unaware of just how much more is going on behind the scenes.
As filming begins, things become increasingly disturbing and people start dying.
There are cameras everywhere, hidden motives, murder, secrets, an obsessive ex and a growing realisation that the people around Andi may not be who they appear to be.
The story combines slasher and horror elements with romance, although the romance is very much secondary to the thriller aspect.
There are also flashbacks to Andi and Sawyer's past, which gradually reveal more about their relationship and what happened before she left.
I really struggled with this one.
The biggest problem for me was that the blurb is incredibly misleading. I went into this expecting something that sounded like Butcher & Blackbird, and I genuinely don't understand that comparison beyond the fact that people die.
Those books are nothing alike.
This is much more of a horror/thriller with romance elements, and unfortunately, neither side of that worked particularly well for me.
The romance was probably my biggest disappointment. The couple gets together ridiculously early with almost no build-up, which completely killed the tension for me. The spice then fell just as flat because I didn't feel invested in them as a couple.
The pacing was also all over the place. The first part dragged horribly, then around the 40% mark everything suddenly went from zero to one hundred. From there, there were plenty of opportunities for the characters to actually do something about the danger they were in, but everyone seemed bizarrely nonchalant about the situation.
There were also repeated pieces of information, flashbacks showing things we'd already been told and quite a few continuity issues that pulled me out of the story.
And the book is way too fucking long.
The ending in particular dragged on far beyond the point where I was ready for it to be over. There were multiple opportunities for things to be resolved, but characters repeatedly failed to do the obvious thing for reasons that never really made sense to me.
I also really wish there had been a clearer warning for the detailed on-page sexual assault.
There are some genuinely disturbing moments and a few twists that worked, and I can absolutely see the potential in the premise. A horror romance set around a film production with an obsessive psychopath at the centre could have been brilliant.
Unfortunately, I spent too much of the book frustrated by the characters, the pacing and the execution to actually enjoy it.
The book contains some heavy themes that include detailed on-page sexual assault and attempted rape, violence, murder, animal cruelty, stalking/obsessive behaviour and other darker themes.

⭐️ 4/5 | 🌶️ Experienced Pepper Reader: 3.5/5 | 🌶️ If You’re New Here: 5/5 | 🎧 3/5
Camera Stays On is the kind of book that makes considerably more sense once you realize the assignment is 90s slasher with romance, not straightforward dark romantic comedy.
Think Scream or I Know What You Did Last Summer energy: camp, sex, blood, questionable decisions, people behaving badly, genre-aware dialogue, multiple suspicious characters, and enough actual plotting underneath the chaos to keep the whole thing moving.
And once I settled into that wavelength? I had a good time.
The film/found-footage element was one of my favorite parts because it actually matters. This is not a romance happening near some movie equipment. The lines between making horror, understanding horror conventions, and actually finding yourself inside horror become increasingly tangled, and the book knows exactly how ridiculous—and unsettling—that can be.
The characters are also allowed to be genuinely unhinged. Nobody needs to be sanded down into a conventionally likable romantic lead for this story to work, and the toxic interpersonal mess often feels deliberately pulled straight from old-school slasher logic.
The romance works inside that heightened world rather than replacing it. There is history behind the relationships, which helped keep the romantic tension from feeling like it existed only because the book needed something sexy between murders.
And yes, there is spice.
For me, as someone very accustomed to explicit romance, I’d put it around 3.5/5. But if dark romance itself is newer territory for you? This could easily feel like a 5/5. It is not only about explicitness—the surrounding context matters. Sexual content occurring alongside slasher-level violence and death is going to hit very differently if that combination is not already within your normal reading range. 😂
My biggest issue was unfortunately the audiobook.
Ava Flynn worked well for me from the beginning. Luke Persiani’s performance was much more difficult, particularly some of the male characterization. One voice felt so deliberately evil—and oddly boyish—that it sometimes announced how I was supposed to perceive the character instead of letting the story build uncertainty on its own.
That matters a lot in a thriller where not knowing whom to trust is part of the fun.
Eventually I was listening at 3x largely because I still wanted the story but wanted to move through the male narration faster. That is why my ratings separate pretty sharply: 4 stars for the book, 3 for the audio. With different male casting, I could easily imagine my audiobook experience landing higher.
I also think the broader positioning matters here. If you go in expecting something very Butcher & Blackbird-adjacent, I can understand being surprised by what you get. This felt much more like a knowingly campy VHS-era slasher that happens to have romance woven through it.
And personally? That made me more interested in Tylor Paige, not less. The camp, dark humor, horror self-awareness, sexual weirdness, and willingness to let characters be completely off their rockers all worked for me. 😂
Content notes: slasher violence and murder, blood/gore, explicit sexual content, sexual content in proximity to violence/death, toxic relationship dynamics, and deliberately disturbing/campy horror material.
Who Should Listen?
Readers who want their dark romance dropped directly into a self-aware 90s slasher: campy horror logic, actual danger, found-footage/film elements, morally questionable people, explicit sex, and a story that knows exactly what genre it is playing with. If you need realistic behavior during a murder spree, perhaps do not apply. 😂 If audiobook performance is especially important to you, though, I would sample the male narration first.

Review of advance copy received from NetGalley
Since the version I read did not contain content or trigger warnings, this book does contain mentions of abuse (not between MCs) and on-page attempted sexual assault and rape (also not between MCs), along with detailed descriptions of explicit adult scenes, attempted murder, and murder. Please protect your mental health.
I wanna start my review by saying this was a good book in my opinion, honestly. It’s very different than what I tend to gravitate towards, but I had a decent enough time in the world and with the characters. That being said, this was not what I expected from reading the summary/blurb. I went in expecting a romantic suspense/thriller, and found myself deep in a slasher/thriller with sprinkles of romance. So 1⭐️ for it being the book advertised, 4⭐️ for the actual book itself.
This is the blurb I’d give it:
The first rule of found footage? The camera stays on. Always. A way of life Asher and Andi “Purdy” know all too well from their shared time with Andi’s ex-fiancée and Asher’s younger brother, Sawyer. In the wake of Andi’s mother’s passing, she suddenly finds herself face to face with the brothers she swore she’d never seen again, in a town she was ran out of. When a mysterious fire forced her back to her hometown, she agrees to play the staring role in Sawyer’s found footage movie, cast alongside his brother, who she may not may not have had a very drunken night with. As filming starts, tension rises in the house, and accidents that seem less and less like accidents start occurring. Asher and Andi’s budding relationship quickly becomes the least of their concerns as the crew learns the script Sawyer shared with everyone isn’t the one he’s actually filming, and they soon find themselves the stars of a very different movie. One with a much more sinister plot.
This book does reference both physical, psychological, and emotional abuse (not between MCs), and contains two attempts at on page SA.
On to my actual review 😂
The pacing of this felt off in some areas. The beginning took me a hot minute to actually get into and for the plot to feel like it actualy progressed, but once it started, it STARTED. There were some areas I could’ve done without, and felt a little repetitive (present day references to previous events, followed shortly after by flashback chapters that showcase the event). Other areas of the plot had a LOT of back and forth that just didn’t seem inherently necessary (again, not my usual genre so maybe this is normal).
All and all, i probably won’t be picking up any other slasher/horror/thrillers anytime soon (if ever again) but I’m not mad about this one.

HOLY HECK. WHAT DID I JUST LISTEN TO?!
The twists and turns in Camera Stays On absolutely blew my mind. Every time I thought I knew where the story was headed, something happened that completely changed my theory.
The story follows Andi, who begrudgingly returns to the town she fled five years ago after being humiliated at the altar. Now she's starring in her ex-fiancé's debut movie, where she just so happens to be marrying his brother, Asher, on screen. The problem? Asher has been in love with Andi since the day they met, and he's not willing to let her get away again. As filming progresses, her ex's attempts to win her back become increasingly manipulative and dangerous, alliances shift, and suddenly NO ONE can be trusted.
I kept trying to figure out everyone's motives, and I was only ever partially right. Through all the chaos, though, I never stopped rooting for Andi. Watching her reclaim her power and evolve from the woman who fled five years earlier was one of my favorite parts of the story.
Asher, meanwhile, was a beacon throughout the chaos. Each glimpse into the past revealed more about how we reached the present, and learning the lengths he had gone to for love and family only made me root for him more. Though, if it ever comes down to Asher versus Andi? Sorry, sir. I'm voting for Andi.
Ava Flynn and Luke Persiani did a fantastic job with the audiobook, bringing so much tension and emotion through every pause, breath, and shift in tone. My predictable complaint remains that it's dual narration rather than duet, but both performances were excellent.
Horror isn't typically my genre. Give me dark romance any day. But I'd heard great things about Tylor Paige and decided to jump in. I am SO glad I did. The horror is definitely HORROR, but the gore never reached the point that usually pushes me away. If you handled Butcher & Blackbird, you'll probably have a decent idea of what you're walking into.
Overall, this was such a fun horror romance. There was enough humor and romance mixed into the darkness to keep it from feeling relentlessly heavy, and every new weapon, reveal, and betrayal had my theories changing again.
I literally put off things I needed to do because I couldn't stop listening.
Responsible? No. Worth it? ABSOLUTELY.
My first Tylor Paige book definitely won't be my last!

Unfortunately, I decided not to finish Camera Stays On. I really wanted to enjoy this one because the premise of a dark romance mixed with slasher horror sounded so interesting, but the further I read, the more uncomfortable I became with the character dynamics.
Sawyer’s obsession with Andi was probably the biggest issue for me. I normally enjoy a possessive or morally gray MMC, but there is a line between protective possessiveness and behavior that feels controlling or threatening, and this crossed that line for me. His refusal to respect Andi’s boundaries—including continuing to call her Purdy after she repeatedly asks him to call her Andi—was increasingly difficult for me to read.
There were also references to past sexual interactions between Sawyer and Andi that made me very uncomfortable regarding consent. Sawyer describes touching her while she was intoxicated and remembers the encounter as something she enjoyed, while Andi’s perspective seems to suggest otherwise. Combined with his increasingly aggressive advances in the present, I reached a point where I simply wasn’t comfortable continuing.
I also struggled with Andi’s characterization. After learning that she had managed to leave her past behind and build a new life for herself, it was frustrating to watch her begin considering whether she should simply give in to Sawyer because she felt she had no other choice. I wanted to see more agency from her.
Initially, I thought Asher would provide a strong contrast to Sawyer because he seemed to respect Andi’s boundaries and wanted to protect her. As the story progressed, though, I became frustrated by how often he appeared ready to intervene only to back down again. It left me unsure of either brother and made it difficult for me to connect with the romance.
Finally, I struggled somewhat with the writing and pacing. At times the story felt scattered, and some of the characters’ motivations and emotional shifts were difficult for me to follow. Because I read an advance copy, I recognize that some aspects may be addressed or polished in the finished edition.
Ultimately, I think this book will work much better for readers who enjoy extremely dark romance, obsessive characters, slasher horror, and intentionally uncomfortable relationship dynamics. Unfortunately, the themes surrounding consent and the overall dynamic became too uncomfortable for me personally, so I chose to DNF rather than continue reading something I wasn’t enjoying.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.

3.75 Stars!
This was definitely different. The beginning had all the great pieces for a truly fucked up psychological thriller/horror. Had me on the edge of my seat anxiously waiting for the other shoe to drop. Sitting there dying to figure out exactly what the hell was going on. Then came the action packed slasher thriller element and things just got progressively more unhinged. Honestly, I was here for it, it had all the good elements you want in slasher. The camera element just added another layer that really boosted the story. The amount of planning and meticulous attention to detail that Sawyer put into this absolutely insane plan was shocking, albeit borderline unrealistic. However, towards the 75% mark the plot just started getting repetitive and didn't really offer anymore insight to support the story. I think the book could have been shorter; that could have left out some of the repeat scenarios, while also avoiding the plot holes these repeat scenes created. Andi was significantly injured and that made the resolutions to some of the repeat scenes pretty improbable imo.
The MCs were complex, but also I feel like certain elements of their story was left unturned. The supporting characters were for the most part a bunch of jerks, except maybe Darius. Like seriously who agrees to that. Bea also did her best to earn redemption. I felt truly bad for Andi and the trauma that made her susceptible to repeated abuse/toxicity. I will say there were definitely moments where I was like girl WHAT ARE YOU DOING? We really thinking about food right now!? Overall, she did her best and I found her character to be generally likable. Sawyer was truly a monster. His modus operandi essentially boiled down to fragile masculinity making his character more terrifying because of how realistic that trait is.
I felt like this was more a horror with a romance subplot, than a dark romance. I did find myself rooting for Andi and Asher most of the time and even though It was very misplaced the spice was quite enjoyable. IDK if I felt like the ending really lived up to what I was expecting, but it wasn't bad.
Overall, this was pretty good. Interested in checking out more from this author, but would probably reach for the audiobook next time.

This was absolutely nuts! First off if you love horror you will love this absolutely but it still had plenty of spice even though people were dying left and right LOL
Asher and Sawyer are brothers who like the same girl
When they were kids Asher kissed her first but then sawyer did and he thought that was their first kiss but when Asher noticed andi had bruises on her he took his brother with him and they went and took care of him
Fast forward and sawyer and andi are supposed to be getting married but he chews her out in front of everybody thinking she cheated on him turns out Asher told him all of this
They run into each other again at andis moms funeral sawyer clearly still hung up on her and Asher still pining for her but she clearly doesn’t want sawyer she has the worst reactions to him so when ash offers to go have a drink she agrees and it becomes more they sleep together
Andi leaves in the morning but sawyer is still obsessed he wants to make a movie and have andi be a part of it so when the movie theatre that she’s working at burns down she takes him up on his offer but she’s always trying to make him see that it’s just that
Her and Asher have the heat and the chemistry but they are trying to keep it from sawyer
What they don’t know is he’s bat shit crazy obsessed and he knew they had sex on the set annnnnnd shit goes sideways
Sawyer officially lost his marbles this was a whole plot to get andi back and married to him
People are dying left and right booby traps and gun shots and lots and lots of gore!
One thing I loved was when andi told sawyer Asher was her first kiss because sawyer was obsessed with being her first and last!
Andi wasn’t turned off by Asher at all even when Sawyer made her watch the video of Asher killing her stepdad she saw Asher saving her
They had to go through some messed up things to get a hea but it was clear Asher was the brother that loved her for her he didn’t try to control her he didn’t film their intimate moments and he didn’t try to kill her
I loved this so much it had everything truly spice horror gore some memorable characters! And most of all Asher and Andi got their happy ending

OMG. I could not stop reading this book once I picked it up and it is amazing, and sexy, and gross and just such a perfect blend between horror and romance. There are plenty of gory moments and the villain is absolutely deranged and unhinged. There is a lot going on potential trigger warning wise, but the actual relationship between the MCs is not particularly dark. They are just in a very dark situation.
This is the second book I’ve read by Tylor Paige and books do not necessarily usually hit me on a deep emotional level very often, but both hers absolutely have brought out a lot of emotions. I love that her books both have elements of over the top slasher movies and follow horror movie rules, yet also feels so realistic, like I can easily understand why the characters make the choices that they do.
Looking at other reviews I see a lot of people feeling like the book they read did not quite match the blurb and I can agree with that. This is definitely a little more horror/slasher first, romance second. Having read another book by the author I feel like I knew decently what to expect. This is not a Butcher & Blackbird or Lights Out romance. I’m not really sure how to describe it better, but it's definitely dark and gory and not played off as funny like those other examples do.
I really enjoyed the MCs, Andi and Asher because they felt realistic. They failed and floundered a lot, and there were moments when I wanted to yell them to just leave, to never get Sawyer another chance. But at the same time, thats what an abusive and emotionally manipulative relationship is like. It sneaks up on you, thinking they will never cross a certain line, but when they do it still gets excused. Both of the MCs were drawn in by our villain, Sawyer who was Andi’s ex and Asher’s brother. It can be very hard to see evil when you’ve grown up around it. I can’t say I’d necessarily want to be friends with either of them, but at the same time, I was really invested in their story. But I also can agree with other reviews that they aren’t super deep characters.
