Now, seeing as this is the kind of book that it is (Aka an erotica book) I probably shouldn't review this like I would other actually published books. But that's what i'm going to do. i don't think books should get off lighter than others just because of the theme or genre. That being said, this book was... okay?

First of all, it's short. It's only 75ish pages long, so it's really a novella. But...for being so short, there's a lot of weird stuff in this.

Now what do i mean by weird? well, first of all, the description of the book is kind of a lie. Why is that? well, because rather than just being a story about Jesse and his introduction into the Beastmen exchange program, it also features another human girl. Naomi. And exactly halfway through the book we swap to her story. There's no mention of this in the description, and it really felt like whiplash. we went from Jesse and him staying with wolf people, to suddenly Naomi with Centaurs. Really wish the book description had mentioned this.

Okay, that out of the way, some issues I have with not just this book, but a lot of these human/anthro books. The world building. The author doesn't really explain how this world came to be. Have anthros and humans always existed together? was there a portal? did they just appear one day? did they evolve? who knows? This is not explained. Yes, i know it's a smutty book, but dang it, i like thorough lore in my smut.

Also, something that i don't think the author even thought about. the word "Exchange" when there's a cultural "exchange" normally a person is sent to the other's place to experience the culture, but at the same time, someone from the OTHER place is sent to THEIR place. hence the word "exchange". you're exchanging places. This was never mentioned in the story. Is there a wolf and centaur at these humans' homes? Who knows? because it's never mentioned.

The brief world building snippits we get are that there ARE other anthros in the world, but the ones at the farm where they're living act differently? It's also hard to pinpoint the time this would take place during. We know they have radios, but that's about as far as i got in terms of knowing what sort of technology they have. So yes, the world building leads a lot to be desired in this one.

As for the actual sexy times in this one, there aren't really sexy times involving the main characters too much. they sort of watch the anthros doing stuff and think it's hot and there's some like.. petting?. that's really all it amounts to.

And that lends me to another question i have. The smuttiness in terms of the world building in this world. So like, okay, Jesse the human shows up to this cultural exchange and his mom's gonna be like "hey, btw, everyone is super horny here. i know that wasn't talked about in the orientation but yeah."

and you're sitting there like, if this weren't a smut book that would be really weird. like, imagine if you're going to a cultural exchange in like China or something and the woman you're staying with is like "btw, we're all super horny here and we're going to rub our junk on you" that would be a bit weird right? Suspension of disbelief is that you're in a world of human x anthros. Not that people act radically differently than they would or that sexual stuff would IMMEDIATELY happen with this guy who's barely 18 the second he walks into his homestay mom's house. iunno. it's a little strange to me.

But probably the absolute weirdest thing in the book is the framing device. So, this story is being told to us by a narrator who is narrating what happened to Jesse and Naomi TO Naomi. Like, that to me is the strangest thing ever. So, it's like if you went to a place full of horny people, told me about it, then i wrote fanfiction about it, and told YOU a smut story of what happened on YOUR trip. Once again, i feel that's a little weird. The story is interrupted with them chatting with commentary and it's a little weird.

The story ends with a "cliffhanger" but i won't spoil what it is. However, this book could have easily been longer than...you know 75 pages and just kept going. It was almost like the author got tired and stopped.

So all this being said, was it good? umm... eh? Like, i love human x anthro, but this one was a little weak. Jesse and Naomi have really no personality other than "They get horny easily" and the anthro characters don't have a personality past "horny". Yes, i know this is a smut book, but just because there's smut in the book it doesn't mean that you need to devolve your characters to the personality of "sex". Novellas like "Harem of a healer" and "wife material with claws" were able to very nicely define characters with motivations in a short amount of time. For a book with 75 pages, having two points of view was a mistake as there wasn't NEARLY enough time to introduce and describe two sets of characters. The author should have stayed with Jesse's POV and developed the wolf people more. Also, pull back on the sexuality a LITTLE bit. Having everyone screwing everywhere just makes the world feel less real, and the more you show the less exciting it is.

All in all, it was....fine? i might read the next part if the author decides to release a part 2 (Seeing that cliffhanger they left on) but i'm not in a rush.

Interesting first attempt, but needs work and to be longer. 2.5 out of 5, rounded up to a 3.
