When the law can't protect you, Mountain Division can. Some secrets die with their keepers. Some follow the living home.
Colin has one rule about no kids. His teammates know it, his boss knows it, and nobody asks why. When Kyle runs out of options and hands him the most important protection detail of the year, Colin's rule crumbles - along with every wall he's spent years building.
Maren never expected to outlive her twin. She never expected to raise Mira's daughter Juniper as her own either - but that's exactly what she did, and she's never regretted a single moment. When danger shatters their quiet life and sends them running, all Maren has is a name her sister left behind. Arden Volker. A woman in Lyons, Colorado who is the sister of the fallen soldier Mira never revealed as Juni's father.
As Mira's dangerous past closes in, Colin and Maren must trust each other completely - the one thing neither of them is any good at. Colin's walls have kept him safe for years. He never counted on Maren dismantling them from one side while a fearless five-year-old demolished them from the other.
Shadow on the Mountain is a forced proximity bodyguard romance and slow-burn romantic suspense featuring a secret baby, a found family who cheers them on, a five-year-old who takes no prisoners, and a love worth stepping out of the shadows for.
This one sucked me in right from the start. I liked Maren and Juni, feared for them as they made their mad dash to CO. I knew they would get a warm welcome, but you have to give Maren credit for going there on the advice of a stranger, not knowing anyone and while she was so full of fear.
I loved how Juni picked Colin from the start and how she kept picking him. He wanted nothing to do with her. One you heard his reason, it made sense, yet I loved seeing all those walls come down the the little girl. Better was Maren seeing this and making her fall for Colin in a whole another way.
I thought the group did a good job of vetting Maren, while keeping her safe and not totally keeping her in dark until they were 100% sure she was "good". Once that threshold was met, there were no barriers in info or in how anyone treated the twosome. I loved seeing everyone at Watchdog become so enamored by Juni, she was cute all on her own, but knowing she was Sean's made her all the more special.
Things got crazy towards the end! A giant game of cat and mouse, but our group came out ahead and managed to take down the bad guy, couldn't get any better than that!
The ending was perfect, the trio all declaring what they were to each other and the family there to welcome them all in.
Oh my, this read had me reaching for the tissues more than once and I loved every page. After a break in and a message from a stranger, Maren with her niece/daughter Juni, drive from San Diego to Watchdog head quarters looking for answers and a safe place to stay. At the gate her first encounter is with Colin and what he sees has him allowing the two to pass through the gates, which leads him to be their primary on their safety. Colin doesn’t work with kids, that’s his rule but Juni gets under his skin as does Maren and with all of them in a safe house, it gets harder to ignore the connection. As the team tries to figure out who and why they are after Maren, the lines get blurred as the danger escalates and a pinkie promise will hopefully be enough to get them through it all. No spoilers here as this story is a must read with Colin, Maren and Juni stealing the scenes. All the characters get a scene that will have you sniffling and reaching for the tissues, including Camo. The story flowed beautifully, the characters were amazing, suspense, steam, surprises, and another page turner from this author.
I started reading this book in the airport and quickly realized that it wasn't a book I should read in public! I knew this book would take me on an emotional journey, but I wouldn't want it any other way. Sean had a little girl that he never got to meet who is being raised by her aunt (Maren). Colin doesn't do assignments with kids but the sweetest little girl with Sean's eyes picks him. Watching Colin, Maren and Juniper navigate forced proximity, danger and building trust/love was priceless. Add in Camo and the immediate bond which just seems right! This book comes with suspense and Maren is a brave, strong woman who gives everything to everyone and finally gets someone to care for her! Get ready for an emotional roll coaster but I am so glad that we are still getting more of the Mountain Division. Reading about people who make such strong unbreakable bonds has a way of soothing the soul!
Wow! What a fantastic story! This story is about Colin, Maren and Juni. You gotta love Juni. She has the Watchdog team wrapped around her little finger. Maren was a twin until her sister was killed. When Maren and Juni came home to find their home ransacked and then get a cryptic message from a stranger. What a lovely way to incorporate Sean and Mira into the story in the form of Juni. Gotta love the puppies too. The mission was to clear Mira's and Ray's name as well as bring down an evil guy and that required Maren to impersonate her sister. So happy the mission was successful. Mira left Maren a letter and it was very touching that it will make you cry. I love how Mira and Sean appear in a dream to Maren - so touching and heartwarming. FANTASTIC job Olivia! I would highly recommend this story. The end of the story revealed a lot of secrets too.
I absolutely loved this book! I think it is my favourite in the series, and thats saying alot.
She is raising her niece till one day she is told to find the fathers family. She flees to his family, only tp find the gatekeeper is everything her a Juni(bug) need. He doesnt do kids, everyone knows it but Juniper does something to him that means he will do tea parties for her and ensure she feels safe. Her aunt is everything he shouldnt want.
Juniper is a great character who has everyone all over her including Kyle. We get to see more of him and other characters in this book.
Then an exciting glance at book 8!
Book quote: “Are you the man who’s gonna protect me and Auntie Mer?” “I am.” “I like your eyelashes.” Juni crossed her arms as she looked him up and down. “Okay, you’ll do.” Mac coughed into his fist.
Fast paced, insta romance, with drama, intrigue, some action, more plotting with all the Watchdogs and significant others helping out, along with Gina and Lachlan, and all the special fur babies like Camo, Fleur, Sam and puppies galore! Juni is the delightfully bossy four year old niece of Maren, who adds so much feeling to this journey. Discovering and uncovering a plot within the government and the contractors they may hire is never easy as greed gets the best of many. Who can one trust? Great plot with twists. I didn't feel the connection between Colin and Maren develop as much as I'd have liked. Juni helped with that, but it was more about the people after Maren and why. A great read.
The Shadows finally found closure. Olivia Michaels' Watchdog series is Amazing! Throughout her Mountain Division series there is an underlying thread that weaves the team together, the deceased Sean Volker.
Faith and trust drive the love story of Colin and Maren. Maren has custody of her sister's daughter, Juniper, and must find a way to keep her safe. On blind faith she follows the instructions she has been given and heads straight to Watchdog Security where she finds Colin. Juniper chooses Colin as her person.
One look at Juniper and the entire Watchdog team knows that she is Sean’s daughter. But how? Olivia ties the treads together beautifully and solves the mystery. The story grabs hold of your heart and doesn’t let go. Enjoy it!
Shadows on the Mountain is a romantic suspense that will have you clinging to the edge of your seat. Olivia Michaels has provided a cast of characters that keep you glued to this book. Maren and her niece Juni are on the run but don't know from who or why. Colin was at the gate when they arrived at Watchdog Security. I enjoyed this book from start to finish. This book is book 7 of the Watchdog Mountain Division Series but can be read as a standalone. Not a cliffhanger. I read an ARC of this book, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Oh! I don't even... this may be my favorite of the Watchdog Mountain Division series!
I want to say so much but it would likely be so many spoilers!
Colin doesn't do kids. Maren is a single parent looking for protection and her daughter's family.
Laughter, tears. Excellent book! Stand alone with HEA. But so much better if you've read others in this series. And More Than Puppy Love. (I haven't read that one yet.)
The book I didn't know I needed to break my heart! Beware, Olivia chalks this one full of the emotions. Sean has a child- and that darling spitfire affectionately called Juni or Junebug simultaneously crushes and heals the hearts of Sean's family and friends. Camo- oh my God my heart. It's giving me all the feels again as I write this review and I read the story days ago. Sigh. Maren and Juni show up in danger and in need of help and the Watchdog family closes ranks around them of course. As Colin is chosen to protect the little family, his walls are effectively torn down as he becomes part of that family for their HEA.
What an excellent read by Olivia Michaels. I loved the dynamic between Junie and Colin. Loved getting to see all the characters de previous books and a few new ones we might get to see. Great work Olivia.
This book will hit you in all the feels. I’ve enjoyed this series so much and this book is one of the best (actually, I can’t pick a favourite) I’m delighted that Olivia intends to keep writing these characters.
Hey there! I’ve got another exciting story to share from Lyons, Colorado, home to Watchdog Securities. It’s all about Maren, a single aunt to her twin sister’s daughter, Juni. One day, her house gets robbed, and out of nowhere, she receives a mysterious phone call advising her to grab Juni and head straight to Watchdog and Arden Volker in Lyons. The caller also reveals that Sean Volker is actually Juni’s dad!
At first, Colin “i dont do children” Hale, but when Maren shows up with Juni and asks to speak with Arden, you can tell things are about to get interesting. Especially after Camo notices Juni’s striking Silver-grey eyes, which definitely catch everyone’s attention. Things heat up even more when Colin is assigned as Maven and Juni’s protector. The story is full of surprises and twists all the way to the very end. It’s quite the rollercoaster finally bringing Seans legacy to fruition and leading us into Wildhorses on the Mountain book 8 in the Watchdog mountain division..
